Cutie pie | Free spirit Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends! It’s Anna here with my project created for “Put a ring on it” theme week on the CVS blog. The new, amazing line has been revealed recently and I decided I need to make some space in my stash for new, pretty papers. I reached for the older lines and “Free spirit” one caught my eye. I was inspired by the color scheme and I decided to use it on my page. This collection is no longer avialable but you can easily replace it with some other, older but still pretty items from CVS. And you know what? You have a perfect opportunity to stock up on them becase there is a big sale happening on CVS site now!!! You have to check it out because what’s gone, it’s gone forever.

Because the theme of this week is all about circles, I decided to use a lof of them to build up my composition. I mixed several pattern papers in blue, pink and orange colors to cut my circles in different sizes. Before I glued them down, I used watercolor paints and painted circles on my white background paper. They are slightly bigger than the ones made of paper.

After my circles were done, I fussy cut some comic bubbles with words and hearts from one of the pattern papers and used them in my composition. I also added few bits and pieces from epherema pack. Wooden buttons are one of my favourite embellishments and I always tend to save them for later. I added few on them on the page too.

I finished my composition adding few enamel dots from various sets. I love how airy and delicate this page turned out. I must tell you I really love rediscovering older lines. I still want all the new stuff right after it appears in the shop but It feel so good to reach for older lines too. They all deserve to be loved.

You are Awesome | Happiness Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Scrappy friends It’s Michelle back today with a new layout share! This is definitely one to be added to the favourites using the Happiness collection and a pretty awesome cut file from fellow DT member Gwen.

The sweet photo I’ve chosen to document is of Leila taken back on Mothers Day with her ‘new’ friend Kermit – best op shop find ever! She truly is an awesome kid, and this cut file from CUT to YOU was the perfect accompaniment for this collection. I managed to pull all of this together with just scraps of papers used on previous creations and 1 full piece of pattern paper for the background edging.

I backed all the pieces of the cut file using the scraps I mentioned before then adhered to the white cardstock using some foam tape for dimension. I layered the cardstock with a full piece of my favourite MEADOW paper for even more colour, and sewed around the edging using white thread.

I added some more of my favourite paper colours to the photo stack. These are the smaller designs you can find in the 6×8 paper pad.

At the top of the photo and bottom of the cut file I added some floral ephemera pieces to give the slight hint of a diagonal design element. I also used the negative star pieces left over from the cut file and some enamel dots (which are making a come back with our upcoming collection and goodness I am excited about it)

Lastly I added a sprinkling of gold colour shine, some handwritten journalling and a date stamp to complete the page.

Mr Fantastic | Boys Rule Collection | Kylie Kingham.

Hello there friends! It’s Kylie back with you today and I am sharing a new layout I have completed featuring the Boys Rule collection. As I have mentioned before, I had been hanging on and hanging on to my stash of this gorgeous collection as it has always been a favourite.However since my sons album hadn’t been updated in a little while, I figured it was perfect for creating some pages with.

I decided to work with a white background and add some mixed media, although I did add the ‘FUN AND GAMES’ paper as a border by trimming 1 cm off each edge of the white. Some clear Gesso was added to my background and I used some watercolour sprays from my craft stash to paint a lovely aqua/blue messy circle to my page. Once dry, I added some texture stamps in darker blue over the top randomly.

The fun circular cut file I used was by The Cut Shoppe and I have used lots of varying papers from the 6 x 8 paper pad, followed by backing each ‘slice’ with white paper.I adhered the circle to the middle of my page with foam tape so that it sat up from the background a little.

I’ve used two photos for my layout. My son always asks if he can take a silly photo after I have taken a sensible one. Every time without fail! So I have printed the silly photo slightly smaller and tucked it in behind our sensible one. I’ve added some of the typed phrase stickers under the ‘Mr Fantastic’ title as a sub-title as well as some aqua cotton from my craft stash for more texture.

I decided to add a machine stitched border around the edge of the white card stock. I added it around 1 cm in from the edge to balance my layout nicely.

The chipboard title was also a favourite and I have added more aqua cotton as well as the cute camera from the die cuts.

Summer Days | Hello Sunshine Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi Cocoa Vanilla friends,

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new layout using the Hello Sunshine collection. I decided to challenge myself by not using much patterned paper on this layout, the only piece I added was the piece underneath my photo. If you want to grab some Hello Sunshine, be quick as there are only a few pieces left from this awesome collection in the online store!To begin my layout, I chose a fun cut file design from The Cut Shoppe and cut it out from yellow cardstock. I then adhered the cut file to plain white cardstock. I love the contrast of the bright yellow against the white cardstock, reminds me so much of summer!  For the very centre of the design of layout, I picked the ‘In the Summer Time’ sticker from the accessory sheet and popped it up on foam dots and placed it in the centre of my page.Like I said earlier, I matted my photo using just the one piece of patterned paper, this photo is a very recent one of my sister and her eldest daughter in the waters of the Jurassic Coast in England! How gorgeous is that archway and water?! So inviting! I popped my photo up to create some dimension and shadows and then the next step was to embellish. I chose some of the die-cuts from the ephemera pack including the coloured star strip, the iceblock rectangle piece and the journal tab. These 3 pieces I tucked it below the photo and to the right side of the photo. I created a focal point towards the centre of the page by adding a cute flair button, a wood veneer heart and another sticker. I also had to add that Sunshine puffy sticker, I just love the puffy stickers from this collection!Lastly I added some of the super cute enamel shape stars around the edges of the sun to add some colour and interest. I also splattered a few splats of black mist and added the date stamp to finish off my Summer page!

You Are Lovely | Happiness Collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share my latest design team project with you. I am sure you have all seen the stunning new ‘Unforgettable’ collection that was revealed over the weekend? Such a beautiful range, I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Until then, I am still busying myself with the ‘Happiness’ collection, which I used to create this page.

I began my layout with the gorgeous floral print of the Meadow paper, which I wanted to use as a base. I then cut a piece of white cardstock down to 10×10″ and adhered it over the top, which left a 1″ border around the sides.

I then set about creating some layers in the centre of my page where my photos were going to be placed. I started with a piece of wood grain print paper from the 6×8″ paper pad; which I layered with a piece cut from the Frame of Mind paper; then topped it off with a yellow painted stripe cut from the Radiant paper from the More Than Words collection.

Once I had worked out exactly where my photos were going to be placed, I also added a scrap of the Expressive paper (that I had previously used to cut some hearts from); and a tag from the Die Cut Ephemera pack tucked in above my photos.

To embellish my page I started with a die cut flower pot and a rosette, which I placed on either side of my photos; along with a small tab that I added onto my layers above.

For my page title, I used the word lovely (also from the ephemera pack), which I adhered using foam tape to pop it up from the page. I paired this with the you are small phrase sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet. To help ground my title, I also added a floral frame from the ephemera pack, which I tucked in behind.

I couldn’t resist adding some butterflies, so I fussy cut a handful of different coloured ones from the Bright & Beautiful paper and placed them in the top left and bottom right corners of my page to give a sense of movement through my design. I then added an extra one alongside my photos to provide the final point for my “butterfly triangle”.

I finished off my page with the stay colourful banner along the bottom edge, a few hearts from the Clear Sticker set and some small splatters of pink and yellow mist.

Family Memories | Midnight | Tazhiana

Hello Cocoa Vanilla family and welcome back to another blog post!

I am so excited to be playing with Midnight again for this one. I’ve been playing around with using one of the premodern cut-file backgrounds but I never really took the leap because they’re so beautiful and I was afraid I would ruin it. Well, today I decided to throw all that self doubt out the window and make something with that large circle element.
I decided to scrap a photo of my teammates and I. These women have been life changing for me since the day I met them and we really are a family, so this was a perfect photo to work with. I also opted to print it in color instead of in black and white because I knew the soft tones in the Midnight collection would work with all the colors we’re wearing in the photo.
I created a huge photo mat using three papers from the 6×8 patterned paper book, and just layered my photo over and over until I ran out of paper. Then, which is a bit unusual for for, I stuck my title down to my photo. Normally, my title is the last element I put down on a layout but I knew I wanted it directly on the picture so I just went for it. Next, I used a combination of the ephemera pack, cardstock stickers and clear stickers to embellish the space around my photo. I propped my photo up on kid’s fun foam and then stuck the embellishments around it. One of my favorite things to do on a layout that is as soft as this one is to play with dimension, so I love propping some elements on the page higher than others. I think it adds visual interest and texture to the page. Also, combining different textures in the elements used, like mixing cardstock, chipboard, and clear stickers adds interest and fun to the page.
After I created my main element, I decided to make a counterbalance to kind of even the page out. On the opposite corner, I used the same embellishments to create a kind of cluster that just adds a bit more interest to the page. I aimed for a nice diagonal line because that’s my preferred style for pages like this, especially with the large circle element in the background. I finished the layout off with some cardstock and clear heart stickers, propping some up on foam dots and leaving some level on the page. I wanted one more bit of dimension, so I added a flair button to the right side of the layout, played around with adding another, and quit while I was ahead. I’ll never be accused of being a neat and tidy scrapbooker, but I think that’s part of my charm.
