Good Vibes | Happy Days Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Crafty friends, it’s Michelle back here today. I’ve got a colourful new layout to share with you all that features our AMAZING new collection – Happy Days. Abso-freakin-lutely LOVING the rainbow assortment of pattern papers within this collection, so much so that I created a magical colour block creation. There’s plenty of embellishments to create this kind of layout, and I hope you all try it too! Lets take a look …

I started with pretty pattern paper squares from the A5 paper stack, each with added machine stitching around the edges. I adhered each piece using some foam for slight dimension and placed them in rainbow order around the outer edges of the cardstock background.

I used a couple of sweet ‘cool kid’ photos of Leila from a few years back, printed in black and white to ensure no colour clashing. Looking back on these photos I realised they’re from when we first moved into our house, before Leila started school. Hard to believe that this is her final year of Primary School and this ‘cool kid’ will be a teenager in 6 months time. Yikes!

Back to the crafty process.. Each colour block has embellishments to match. There’s florals fussy cut from the Lush Blooms paper, butterflies from the Flutterby paper, cut apart pieces from the Feel Good paper, punched shapes from other matching pattern papers from the collection, stickers from the Accessory Sticker Sheet and tiny Puffy stickers

I fussy cut the words GOOD VIBES from the Definitive paper for the title, as there’s always good vibes when this cute kid is involved.

I added a journal card from the A5 paper version of the Feel Good paper to list a few of the things that made Leila happy at that stage of her life. It stretched the memory to think of them all, thank heavens for the ridiculous amount of photos I took back then to help jog the memory.

I gave the entire layout a good splattering of gold ink to finish it all off and am really happy with the end result.

Here’s a closer look at the dimension of all those bits n bobs around the page, don’t know what I’d do without my beloved sticky dots and foam tape when creating. They definitely help give embellishments a pop off the page

First day of Grade Six | Storyteller | Michelle Stokes

Hey Everyone it’s Michelle back with you today to share a super quick layout featuring the amazing Storyteller Collection. I’m still loving this collection with all its bright primary colours, perfect for documenting some first day of school photos that almost didn’t make it to print!

I knew I wanted to create something fast, simple and pretty all at the same time, and as we’re still in the month of ‘love’ I felt it needed to incorporate some kind of large heart design along with groups of pretty florals. The layout ended up being exactly what I was aiming for and will be a well cherished addition to Leila’s childhood albums for years to come.

I started off by finding a generic heart shape through google, and cutting the large shape out in the middle of some white cardstock using my silhouette. I adhered this piece to a second layer of white cardstock using foam sheets to give it some flat dimension.

I knew I’d be adding lots of colours to the layout in the way of floral clusters, so to avoid any pattern/ colour clashing I printed the photos of Leila in Black and White at just a smidge over 3x2inch size. I backed both photos with the woodgrain paper (Cross it Off) from the collection, added a couple of accessory stickers and adhered these pieces to the left of the heart using more foam sheeting to pop them up off the page a little.

The floral clusters came together so nicely but were probably the parts of the layout that took the longest. Fussy cutting is quite therapeutic, yet time consuming. I added a mix of ephemera pieces and accessory stickers to each of the groups to mix them up. The beautiful florals are from a mix of both the 12×12 and A5 version of the Spring Fling paper.

I used a mix of adhesives for the clusters, mostly foam tape and glue dots for slight dimension.

There’s also a sneaky enamel heart within each cluster for a finishing touch within each group.

I created a mixed font title using the usual blend of both handwritten text and my beloved white alpha stickers, with the addition of machine stitching for extra detail and to keep them in place.

Here’s a closer look at how sweet these alphas are, lets all keep our fingers and toes crossed that they make an appearance back in the CVS store sometime in the future as they really are the best for creating titles with.

I added the usual gold ink splatters around the layout to finish it all off to, something I do to all layouts to make them feel complete.

Here’s one final look at the entire layout and all its white space goodness!

Ho,Ho,Ho, Very Merry magic moments to you all | Joyful collection | Josefine van der Hoeven

Hey Paperlovers,

Are you already feeling the Christmas spirit? I absolutely am, I love all those pretty lights on the tree and streets, house decorations and trying out delicious recipes. How lovely for visiting the Cocoa Vanilla Blog today.

 

My challenge was a scrap-lifting of the amazing talented scrapbook designer Michelle Stokes.
I totally love her work! Curious?! please visit her IG (shelz626) for wonderful scrapbook inspiration.
I choose the beautiful and lovely “Always Sweet” layout from Michelle.

I really wanted to work with the beautiful Christmas collection “Joyful” This is truly the cutest scrapbook Christmas collection I know of.

 

I took a 12×12 white cardstock paper and choose four of my fave pocket page card designs. I cut four strips of patterned paper and place them along both sides of the layout. I choose white sewing thread and used my sewing machine to stitch both sides of the patterned paper strips.

 

I cut frames from the pocketpage cards and place the black and white photos behind them. I add white sewing thread to the edges of the frames. Behind the middle picture I place a tag with a pink bow made of embroidery thread. I place the four pocketpage cards playfully on my layout just as Michelle did on her layout.

 

I fussy cut several flowers from the patterned paper. I make both left and right of the layout a cluster of flowers, labels, stickers and die-cuts. In the center of the layout I make a banner of stickers. Then I make the title of the layout “Ho,Ho,Ho, Very Merry magic moments to you all” I use several elements for my title, stickers, gold title words, die-cut banner and a mini alphabet from the collection “These Days” Finally, I make splatters with gold acrylic paint for a magical touch.

Epic Birthday Kid | Legendary Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Everyone! It’s Michelle back here today with another instalment of our regular ‘Throwback Thursday’ theme. I dipped into the remnants of my Legendary Collection stash for this layout to document my awesome nephews recent birthday. This kid is such a rad rockstar, he absolutely deserves to shine bright on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog!

Our little family have recently been struck down with the dreaded ‘spicy cough’ as some may call it, and during one of the many days that I didn’t move much from bed I ended up fussy cutting an entire sheet of stars from the ALL STAR 12×12 paper in the Legendary Collection. A lot of tiny scraps of paper left in the bed and a fully cramped hand but I’m absolutely thrilled with the end result, a vision that came together in my head while sick in bed a few days prior.

To create the layout I started with a star shape clip art found easily in a google search, resized in Silhouette studio so that it filled as much of the 12×12 background paper as possible and cut it out on white cardstock. I separated the large star shape from the negative outer edge piece without tearing any edges and kept both pieces for future steps. Next I created the star outline that overlays the top of the pattern stars, this was done with a simple cut, paste and resize of the original star shape to create the outline piece. Again, both pieces separated once cut and sat to the side.

Now it was time for the fun part. I used the larger star piece from the original cut to add all the different coloured and sized stars using both foam tape and glue adhesive for different heights of dimension. This took a couple of hours to get it all right to ensure both colours and sizes were evenly distributed. Once this step was complete I was able to assemble the layers to make the background pop.

To get the layers exactly right I started with a fresh sheet of white cardstock on the very bottom, on top of this I added the negative outer edge piece of cardstock from the first cut adhered flat on top. This helped to assist with the correct placement of the bright stars piece which was added straight after. The final ‘layer’ to this star spangled sanga was the second negative outer edge cardstock piece which I lined up with the first and adhered using foam tape to create shadow lines and dimension down into the star pieces, if thats what you would call it.  Lastly I added the star outline piece over all the layers, rotated around so that it sits different to the pieces below it and adhered with more foam tape for a little extra pop off the page.

I added the sweet photo of my super cool nephew to the left of centre and layered complimenting pattern papers underneath with the addition of a sticker and ephemera piece tucked in for good measure. I printed the photo in black and white to avoid any colour clashing, as there was a lot of similar colours in both.

Under the photo I added the mixed font title, made using the word EPIC from a 3×4 card on the EPIC TALES paper and some of my most favourite white alphas that I’ve stitched into place, finished off with a mini cluster of fussy cut stars

Over on the top right of the layout I added another little cluster of stars along with some ephemera pieces and a word sticker from the accessory sticker sheet

and in the bottom right side of the star I added a note about the photo and even more fussy cut stars.

Here’s a final look at the layout with all its brightly coloured stars and a splattering of black ink. I really enjoyed creating this layout using the Legendary Collection. It’s certainly fun creating things that are different to the usual pretty florals that I tend to be drawn to. Plus the fussy cutting of the stars felt quite therapeutic and was a good little activity to make the day pass quicker while stuck in iso.

You’re The Best | No Limits Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello fellow Creatives! It’s Michelle back here today with a new layout to share with you all using the awesome No Limits Collection. A layout that stared off looking a lot different to the way it finished up.

Does anyone else out there start a layout with a clear intention of following along a certain design direction, especially when creating something to follow a specific theme, or use a specific product, only to fall down a completely different rabbit hole? Just me?

Well this crazy crafter was given the task of showing off the wonderful Chipboard Stickers and Woodgrain Buttons from the No Limits collection. I had a specific idea in mind to create something that used a tonne of both embellishments, and next to no pattern paper… But then I got a little side-tracked with what I was watching while crafting and Voila! A pinwheel of sorts made up of a bunch of pattern papers with awesome bright colours and designs and a splattering of embellishments.

I still think it turned out pretty rad, just not the direction I intended to take haha

This sweet little face amongst the tiny plushies absolutely loves when I create layouts for her that aren’t the traditional girly colours and patterns, so this collection No Limits is right up her alley. I framed the photo using the larger chipboard sticker Frame and grouped it with the smaller to act as a frame for the title piece (also a chipboard sticker), ephemera piece and wood button.

The background is made up of a few different layers starting with the base – woodgrain BIG BANG paper, white cardstock that is twisted over the top and adhered flat. Next is the wonky pinwheel, made up of 8 different patterns from the 12×12 papers that are cut down into smaller triangles. I’ve sewn around each and left the threads loose for a little added texture to the layout then adhered each to the layout using pieces of foam for slight dimension.

I used a mix of chipboard pieces to the left hand side as embellishments, words that can often be used to describe this child of mine. I’ve added another wood button to the group also

I used a colour blocking method for the extra embellishments in both the orange and yellow sections of the pinwheel, adding fussy cut stars from both the 12×12 and A5 versions of NEBULA paper

I added the date using a cut apart piece from the A5 version of UNIVERSAL paper and grouped it together with a star and the black ORBIT paper triangle

Christmas Magic | Joyful Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle back here today with a new layout share featuring the wonderful NEW Joyful Collection. SO many pretty patterns and colours with a couple of super cute creatures thrown into the mix. I’ve documented one of our fun family traditions from last Christmas, our crazy Elf on the Shelf shenanigans.

To start off the layout I grabbed out the A5 paper stack and cut out pieces from multiple patterns that are just over 3 inches square in size. I’ve distressed the edges, folded and ripped some pieces and also layered some with velum and other pops of pattern paper. All squares are adhered within a grid format using foam for slight dimension.

Next up I’ve worked on the photo stack, title and floral cluster group. I printed the photos out roughly 3.5×2.7 inch size and adhered them to the bottom left area of the layout using more foam. I also added in an extra pattern paper above the photos to balance out the colours on the layout.

We’ve loved playing around with the Elf each year, and sadly I think last year was the last season for creating this kind of ‘magic’. It was certainly fun to see what the Elf and her friends got up to each night, and am very interested to see what happens this year.

To the right of the photo I created a floral cluster using fussy cut pieces from the Tis the Season paper with the addition of stars from the ephemera and puffy title sticker packs.

The title was a super easy creation using a chipboard word sticker and a puffy title sticker

Up in the top right of the layout grouped together more fussy cut florals from the Tis the Season paper along with a super cute reindeer from the ephemera pack. I’ve been itching to find ways to incorporate the animals without just throwing them on for no reason, cause they’re all so darn cute!

Over on the left I created another small cluster of florals tucked behind the tag and banner from the ephemera pack. These florals are so pretty in real life, so its hard to cut into the paper.

Lastly some handwritten journalling to tell the story of our Elf Twinkle and her mates that helped to spread some Christmas Cheer. I used a ripped piece of notepaper from a pad that I keep handy on my desk and embellished it with some stars and accessory word sticker. To add one final touch to the layout I’ve added my usual sprinkling of gold ink, that splattered in places I didn’t really want it to, but thats the risk we take when creating something fun.

Captured | These Days | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share featuring the These Days Collection, and boy was it a fun one to create! I had the joy this week of Scrap-lifting one of my fellow DT Members Kylie, and yes a challenge it was. I had the hardest time deciding which beautiful layout of hers to recreate as they’re all so stunning! I chose something wonderful that was created a couple of years back, heres my version…

Fussy cut florals eat your heart out! If you cant tell by what I’ve created, I chose the absolutely stunning layout Kylie created with the Unforgettable collection and all those beautiful hand made flowers. Now my layout doesn’t stack up to the amazing creation below, but I’m still pretty happy with the outcome.

To create my version of Kylies layout I turned the orientation of the layout around in a couple of different ways. I used the design of the layout as a sketch and both rotated and mirror flipped it to create the design of my own layout. I used similar elements and pattern ideas that Kylie has used, just in a slightly different way.

I started with a pattern paper background using a mix of dotted paper, wood grain paper and a multicolour pattern to peek out between the 2.  (Family Ties & Pretty Posies paper)

I scrapped a cute photo of Leila from many many moons ago, almost 10 years ago to be exact. I printed the photo in black and white as I knew I’d be adding A LOT of colour within the clusters of florals and didn’t want them to clash. I added a couple of layers of A5 papers behind and adhered it over the background using foam for a hint of dimension amongst all the other layers.

I added the title to the photo using a foam word title from the Unforgettable collection along with 2 cut apart pieces from the Good Life paper that I adhered with a little foam tape.

Next up was the fun part of creating clusters of florals in a diagonal line across the layout. I had pre-cut tonnes of flowers from the Home Grown paper in both 12×12 and A5 sizes while sitting on the couch one night a few weeks back so there was plenty to play with. I layered the florals using both foam tape and glue dots and added a touch of silver thread for added texture. The cute gold glitter heart adds another form of texture and dimension to the cluster along with the cute mini puffy hearts

I used more of the same elements in the top cluster too. Just love these colours together

On the right side of the photo I’ve added more florals in a mini cluster along with a frame from the Wall of Frame paper, cut apart pieces from the Good Life paper, more puffy stickers and thread

I really enjoyed creating this layout, especially making floral clusters with all those gorgeous flowers and I certainly never grow tired of creating with them.

HELLLO GRATEFUL LIFE | JOSEFINE VD HOEVEN | THESE DAYS COLLECTION

Hello Paperlovers,

It’s Josefine here with you today at the Cocoa Vanilla Blog sharing a new layout that I created with the beautiful “These days” collection and I couldn’t wait to combine my photos from Paris with the beautiful patterns and designs of this awesome collection.

I started by stamping on the white cardstock background by using a background clear stamp that looks like a stain. I make a mixed media background in the center of this page and stamp several times. The color of the Distress Oxide I am using is “tattered rose”
The color is very light and doesn’t stand out very much with photographing this layout.

I cut several picture frames from the design paper and placed them in the center of the page. I choose some different design papers and cut them into strips and fold them in half. I slide them under the picture frames.This gives a great dimension and extra details to your layout. I choose different die-cuts, labels, (puffy) stickers, word strips and wooden buttons to decorate my layout.

On both sides I make clusters of die-cuts, labels, flowers and stickers. I love creating different layers. I use 3d tape to make my clusters. Through the middle of the trees I sew with gold sewing thread. I love using sewing thread in my layouts.The great big black title ” Grateful” gets a nice spot under the photo. With the cute small alpha set I make the word life. My layout calls “Hello Grateful life” In love with the little puffy sticker typewriter. So cute!

Finally, I add some butterflies to my layout and splash some more with the Distress Oxide colors, tattered rose, speckled egg, victorian Velvet. I hope I was able to inspire you with this layout and want to thank you for visiting the Cocoa Vanilla Blog today! I wish you a beautiful and crafty day!

Summer Memories | Josefine vd Hoeven | Sunkissed

Hello crafty Paperlovers, Welcome to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Blog today! It’s Josefine here showing you a new scrapbook layout that I created with the beautiful collection Sunkissed. I am completely in love with this beautiful summer collection. Definitely one of my favorite collections ever!

I love circles layouts and wanted to create a circle layout with this beautiful summer collection. I cut out a circle border from the wood grain design paper of the Sunkissed collection and I cut out a circle from the blue/green colored design paper. Both circles I stitched with white sewing thread. I place these circles in the center of this page. I placed my photo on top of the circles in the middle. Around the edges of the circle I stamp several times with the distress oxide and make some mixed media splatters. The color I used is “broken china”.

I selected some flowers, die-cuts and stickers and make a cluster on both sides of the circle. I used the gold glitter puffy word ” Memories” and placed it under the circle. I also choose an aqua colored Alpha set for the word “Summer”. My title for this layout will be ” Summer memories”.

 

I have decorated different die-cuts with gold sewing thread. On top of the picture I placed some die-cuts and word strips. Of course, I also used a wooden button on this layout. I choose to keep this page clean and simple. Now t’s time to add some white and black acrylic paint splatters and use my brush for this. These splashes make it so festive.

I am very happy how this scrapbook layout turned out. I hope I was able to inspire you with this summer layout. I looking forward to seeing your beautiful creations with this awesome summer collection! Wish you a beautiful and crafty day! XoXo, Jo

 

Everyday Stories | Unforgettable collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends,

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new layout focusing on an ‘Everyday’ theme and featuring the gorgeous Unforgettable collection!

When I think of ‘Everyday’ I think of myself with my immediate family – my husband and our 2 sons. It’s not often we get photos together so I take the opportunity when I can! I took a piece of the teal and white stripe paper and trimmed it to measure 8′ x 12′ I then cut it to measure 4′ x 12′ and then cut this into 3 pieces to measure 3′ x 4′ rectangles.

I bent the edges of each piece and adhered them in the centre of the small text patterned paper. I trimmed the small text paper down so that I could mat a pink piece of 12′ x 12′ paper behind the entire layout. I adhered my photo slightly to the left of the layout and in the centre.

On the right of the photo, I added the Everyday sticker from the accessory sticker sheet popping it up using foam dots for dimension. The sticker formed the first part of my page title, the second part of my title is the word ‘Stories’ from the Foam Title Stickers that I placed under my photo. Also on the right I tucked in some floral ephemera, a foam black heart and a die-cut heart and an enamel dot.

On the left I tucked in more ephemera including the camera, some tickets and some more enamel dots. I also added one of the gorgeous flair buttons here too. Lastly I added a few small things including some phrase stickers, dropped a few sprinkles of mist and stamped the date stamp.
