Hello, hello! It’s Anna here again and today I have fun, travel themed inspiration for you. Good news – it has zero dogs involved :) This time I wanted to scrapbook a selfie photo of my family we took visiting London few years back (I can’t belive it was so long ago as it seems like yesterday). Photo was already printed and wandering around my desk for a while so I though it’s time to scrapbook it finally. As CVS doesn’t have any specific travel themed collection, I reached for the lines that have colors that would match the picture. It’s quite muted with a lot of earth tones so I focused on masculine lines. No pink this time!

I started with the newest one called “No limits” picking pattern papers for the background – wooden “Big bang” and grey “Universal“. With the second one I cut out the map background using digita die cutting machine. It reminded me of a busy city London is. Sfter all three basic layers were combined, it was time to add photo. It has white frame so I needed some contrastic colors under it to make the picture pop.

That’s why I added yellow and blue using A5 Paper stack. This is such a great product – it hold some extra patterns for even more fun with collection and you can use them for mini albums and cards too. You get 30 sheets in total – 2 of each designs and they are loose so there is no glue attaches to the one side, which is sometimes hard to remove. After the photo was glued down, I started building composition around it. It’s the moment I reached for some older CVS collections and my leftovers stash. You can find ephemera pieces and stickers from “Legendary”, “You rock” and “Boys rule”. This is the beauty of Cocoa Vanilla lines – you can easily mix and match them!

My title was also created with an old set of alpha stickers. they are not being added to the collections anymore but I still have my own stash and I love reaching out to it. Alpha stickers came in two different sizes – with bigger letters and some with smaller letters. I mixed two of them here. I also dug up my stash of wooden elements, that were a part of older collections. I loved them so much and I was saving them for the future (as many of us does with favorite items). It’s finally time to let them go. But worry not – I still have a little basket of them :) They will last me till the end of time.

This kind of layout is my favorite – where I can combine new and old, giving older stash a new life. If also helps me spread the collection even if I am running out of embellishemnts. Last step in making this page was adding some flair buttons (also from my dearly saved stash) and splashing everything with yellow and orange mists.

Fun Adventure | No Limits | Kellie Moore

Hi Cocoa Vanilla fans and welcome back to the blog!

Today I have put my Storyteller collection away and have pulled out the No Limits collection to play with.

I am documenting some fun pictures of my husband and youngest son on a recent holiday to Bali when we went quad bike riding.

To start my page I used the woodgrain paper called “Big Bang”  and tore it about three quarters of the way down to create some texture and added a strip of the “Eclipse” paper underneath it.

I decided I wanted to add some mixed media to my background so I pulled out a circular stencil with some silver texture paste and added some white ink splatters.

I placed my photos in the middle of the page and used some vellum to add another layer. Next, to add more colour and papers to my page, I used a cut file from Paper Issues to add more circular elements to my page… I love these!!!

For my title, I used the word ‘Adventure’ from the Die Cut Titles and the word ‘Fun’ from one of the ‘Pocket Cards‘.

 

Once this was done I felt like the bottom of my page was too white so I pulled out some circular stamps and added these with co-ordinating colours … love the effect!

To finish my page, I used different pieces from the ‘Die cut elements’ pack’ and some of the Chipboard pieces including the stars to scatter around the page.

Needy baby | No limits Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans. It’s Anna here with my newest page. I decided to put the new “Storyteller” collection away for a short while to use up my stash of older lines. They looked so sad and lonely in the box :) First, I need to add a disclosure and explain myself a bit. We got a new puppy over a year ago, and as my daughters are quite big and independent, I poured all my parental feelings into my poor dog. 99% of my phone photos are of my furry boy… Crazy pupparazzi – I know! So most of my pages are with my dog’s photos recently as those are almost the only pictures I get. Last time I shared with you his sleepy version mixed with “Storyteller” and today will be his needy version with a bit older “No limits” line. Masculine collection for a good boy!

Let me start with a back story of the photos. As I work from home, I have this big privilage to work from the cosy couch covered with soft blanket. My dog is always somewhere near as he is very social and coodependent (my fault…). He likes to be a star of the show, so when the attention is not on him, he is not the one who waits patiently. When my computer took his place, he decided it’s time to try to sneak into my laps. I snapped few photos of him checking which side would be the best to approach. He is very needy when it comes to attention hence the title of the page.

I had a little bit of trouble figuring out how I should scrapbook those photos. I didn’t want to repeat my usual patterns so insted of straight lines, I decided to add some funky waves. I picked three pattern papers: “Latitude“, “Spark” and “Nebula” and nested them together sketching a simple wave pattern, that would be wider on the one side and making thinner on the other. I started with the orange paper and drew and cut the wave. Then I glued it over the yellow paper, marked the lines with pencil and cut everything again. I repeat the same with the greenish one. My original idea was to put everything on “Stardust” paper as a background buy it was just too busy. I switched to white cardstock instead adding some mixed media layers.

I first marked when my paper layer will be, and then gently added some yellow ink using a brush, on the top and on the bottom. Then I used star stencil and lime green ink to add a layer of stars and finished everything with orange splatters. When everything was dry, I glued my wave on top and started embellishing. I picked some tickets and stars from ephemera pack and tucked them behind the photos and my wave. You can spot some stickers from 6*12 sheet too. Next step was to add a title using some Thickers from my stash, following the curve of the wave. Who said your titles have to be straight? Actually, I love keeping them messy and uneven!

Tiny enamel dots and stars were a perfect finishing touch along with wood epoxy button. I think this is the embellishment piece I use up the fastest in each CVS line. I just love them. The final result has a bit retro vibe I would say. Do you have similar feelings about it? I think I need to reach for wavy, handcut lines more often as they create very unique result.

That’s it for today! I really enjoyed making this layout and scrapbooking another photos of my puppy / son. He is my youngest baby, and you know how tempting it is to scrapbook baby photos, right? I can not promise my next page will be with people either…

You’re Awesome | No Limits | Lina Monaco

Lina here today on the blog with a Throwback Thursday layout for you. I used the latest boy themed collection, No Limits, for my layout and I have no doubts that I made the correct decision with this one. It’s full of bright colours with fun accents and decor pieces such as lightning bolts, arrows and stars. I mean, it was an obvious choice for me!


For my layout, I decided I wanted to incorporate a grid of some sort. I wasn’t sure how I’d accomplish this right off the hop but after looking at my photos and noticing that I had printed off duplicates of this photo of my darling nephew, one in black and white and one in colour, I thought using the photos and pocket cards was the way to go. The background paper I used is called Stardust and it’s the most perfect aqua tone with splatters and distressing.
I matted my photos and two Pockets Cards with papers from the collection including Latitude, Nebula, and Big Bang. The pops of colours make my rainbow heart happy ☺️


For a pop of darker blue, I used two additional Pocket Cards to matte the original cards. I just adore how the inky blues subtly pop out from behind the cards, it just makes them leap off the page. I arranged both my photos and my Pocket Cards in a grid style and went to work on embellishing my layout.


I used the Die Cut Ephemera, Accessory Stickers, along with the Chipboard Stickers to add pops of embellishments around the page. I also used the Chipboard Stickers for my title, pulling “You’re Awesome” from the sheet. I adhered it down using hot glue on the edges and securing it down. I enjoy the loose and playful placement of the title as it adds a bit of whimsy in my opinion.


I continued to embellish the page with Puffy Stickers, tucking them in and around the layout. I felt the layout needed a bit more expression and sentiment and so I used some of the small phrases from the Accessory Sheet to add some much needed micro titles. This is how I personally convey sentiment on layouts as I almost never journal on them. If I want to document something specific, I do so on the back of the layout.


Lastly, as per my style, I finished off my layout with a good splattering of gold paint spray. I feel like it just pulls everything together and rounds out the layout nicely.

Born to be Awesome | No Limits Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share for you all using a technique that I’ve used a few times in the past, one that is quite time consuming, but looks pretty awesome once complete. I’ve also dipped into more of the No Limits Collection while I’m patiently awaiting the new Storyteller collection to arrive on my doorstep.

This layout was definitely a labour of love, weaving tiny little strips of paper together to create 1 large pattern overloaded background, but the end result was well worth it! Documenting a fun moment shared between Leila and 2 of her cousins late last year when we were able to get together to celebrate her 11th birthday. Still cant believe we’re halfway to 12 now.

I had a rough idea of how this layout was going to come together, so I started off by marking out a section on white cardstock where the weaved strips were going to sit, then adhered a couple of weaved pieces in place towards the bottom to create a starting point that wouldn’t slip out while building the piece up. I’ve used papers from both the A5 paper stack and 12×12 papers and continued to weave the strips all the way to the top, adding tiny drops of glue here and there along the edges to keep it all straight. This process took a couple of hours to perfect to get the right balance of colours and patterns throughout the piece. Once complete I added the extra white cardstock pieces over the top and sewed them down to hold the weaved piece in place.

Next I added the photo stack, layered with contrasting blue pattern papers with clusters of fun pieces either side.

To the right side I’ve mixed multiple pieces from the ephemera pack along with fussy cut stars from the Nebula pattern paper. Most are adhered with foam tape to lift them up and create dimension. We all know that I can’t create a layout without adding a tonne of foam tape for dimension, I just cant help it lol

To the left I’ve added more fussy cut stars and ephemera pieces, both scattered and tucked into the layers of the photo stack. I’ve used so many stars in my last few layouts that I’m surprised I’ve still got plenty left.

I created a mixed font title using the AWESOME word from the Die Cut Titles pack and an edited version of the ‘Born to Be’ banner from the accessory sticker sheet.

Last bundle of goodness grouped together on the bottom right section of the layout using a bunch more stars, ephemera pieces and a chipboard sticker piece to complete the group.

I gave the whole layout a sprinkle of black ink then called it done. Here’s another look at the final layout…

Really happy with the end result, creating something magical to document a sweet little moment between some pretty awesome cousins.

Totally Awesome | No Limits Collection | Kylie Kingham.

Welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla blog. It’s Kylie with you and today I am sharing another scrapbooking layout I created with the ‘No Limits’ collection. When I am looking for inspiration to create a layout, more times than often I will use a paper collection as the inspiration. There are lots of stars that feature throughout the ‘NO LIMITS’ range, both in the die cuts, stickers and on the paper prints. I wanted to have an emphasis on stars as well as having dimension and texture within the page design I created and am sharing with you all today.

Using several different papers I cut some layered stars using a simple star shape from my Silhouette software. I resized it and then used the offset feature to produce an even layering effect. There are six layers to each star all together and once they were cut out I distressed all the edges. (**This seemed a great idea at first but it did take me a longggggggg time! But the finished result was worth it.) Once all the layers were adhered together it was time to add them to their canvas! I trimmed down some of the UNIVERSAL paper to measure 9″x 9″, distressed the edges a little and adhered it centred to the Stardust paper. I also drew a fine lined border around the edges with a black marker.

My photo was trimmed down to 5″x 4″ and adhered to some of the ORBIT paper, making sure all the edges were distressed a little for extra texture. With my photo adhered in place I layered a few simple die cuts behind it and adhered the stars positioned in the top portion of my page. For balance I also adhered a star to the base line of my photo and used some of the star puffy stickers too.

To complete my page I created a large title from the title die cut pack and positioned it on my layout so that it would overlap my photo just a little. I used foam adhesive squares to adhere it so that it sat up from the background of my page a little adding a nice dimension.

Awesome | No Limits Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends today I have another boy themed layout to share using the fab No Limits collection! I have used two cut files on this layout, star background and Awesome 3D title, both can be found in the Silhouette Design Store.

I used the latitude paper under the star cut file so you had a multitude of colours showing through. My white cardstock is cut at 11×11 inches and I used Spark paper for my border.

I used the grey side of the universal paper to cut the outline of the Awesome cut file. I then used nebula paper for the letters which I added with foam tape to give my layout dimension.

I chose two photos of my boy which I sized at 2.5 x 2.5 inches. As they are smaller photos I embellished on the photos to draw your eye to them, tucking elements under and over the photos. I have used a combination of die cut ephemera, wood epoxy buttons puffy stickers and chipboard.

Really the cut files do a lot of the work for you here! This layout is all about colour and dimension.

I love how this turned out and works so well with photos of a teenage boy!

Cousins are the Best | No Limits collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout using the fabulous No Limits collection! For this layout I wanted to document the sweet friendship between my youngest daughter Eleanor and her cousin Charlie, and I knew that this one had to fun and playful to match their personalities! The bright colours, as well as the multitude of stars throughout this collection, were perfect!

I really wanted to use the Big Bang patterned paper as the background for this layout. I think the design of that paper is so fun and I’ve loved seeing the different ways that the design team have been using it! I trimmed about 1cm off each side of the paper and then created a border around the page using various patterned papers from the collection. I also added black machine stitching around the edge of the layout to frame it.

Next I matted my photo using two papers from the A5 Paper Stack. I added a layer of craft foam between the two patterned papers to give the photo some nice dimension. I then adhered the photo just to the left of the large star on the background in order to draw the viewer’s eye to that focal area on the page.

For my title I pulled out my old Cuttlebug manual die cutting machine. Who else still has one of these in their craft room?! I’ve been enjoying creating  titles using metal alphabet dies lately. I love the custom look that you can create with these, plus if you use patterned papers from the same collection, your title matches your page perfectly! On this layout I used two different alphabet dies from Scrapbook.com to cut the letters for the first three words of the title, and then completed it with the word ‘best’ from the Chipboard Stickers. I love the way a mixed font title adds lots of interest to a layout!

Once my photo and title were in place, I was ready to embellish! First I created a cluster on the bottom left hand corner of the photo. I tucked some elements under the edge of the photo, such as the die cut and chipboard frames, and others I added on top, like the ‘Unlimited’ die cut and the wood epoxy button. Layering embellishments together like this gives a layout lots of interest and dimension.

In order to create a visual triangle, I cut another die cut frame in half, and added one piece to the top right hand corner of the page, and the other piece to the bottom left. I then added a cascade of stars flowing from that bottom left hand corner up to the top top right. As all of the elements on the page sit along that diagonal line, it once again helps to draw the viewer’s eye to the important elements on the page rather than wandering. I included stars from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, as well as others that I fussy cut out of the Nebula paper, a few that I die cut out of the A5 Papers, and of course I had to include a scattering of the tiny little stars from the Puffy Sticker pack. I finished the page off with some typed journaling strips.

Awesome | No Limits | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts here again with a fun multi-photo layout featuring the gorgeous new No Limits collection. This layout has a combination grid and column design, with two photos gridded into the Latitude pattern paper on the left and one photo showcased on the right. I loved including pocket cards on this layout too! One I used for a journaling spot, one behind to the photo on the right side and one in the center of the grid on the left. Such a great way to add a little extra detailing!

My clusters on the grid are pretty simple, so that the photos still remain the focus. A simple arrow with a circle, star, and word phrase on the top photo. An arrow with a hand sign and star on the bottom photo. In addition, a chipboard word phrase across the center of the pocket card made for a fun detail. Something a little unexpected.

The center of the layout is certainly the ‘star’! This photo was taken in the middle of my son’s explanation of what he was holding (the dipstick). I wanted to showcase the skills he’s learned over the years in his personal albums and this seemed like a perfect series of photos to include. My journaling is hand-written, a detail that I personally love to see on layouts! To finish off my center section, I tucked ephemera stars behind the photo and sprinkled puffy stickers and ephemera stars around the edges. A bit of nuvo and gold ink splatter as a final touch.

Totally epic | No limits Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. We all love Cocoa Vanilla for their masculine collections, right? Zoe is a master of designing them and she never disappoints with each new line. They are very versatile and can be used not only for boys or men photos and I am a proof of that. I am a mom of two girls and a beagle boy and I use those lines to scrapbook my puppy photos mostly. But, from time to time, I put my girls on the display too. They are way less cute than a puppy but I need to be fair with dividing my scrappy attention :) I framed their photo using new “No limits” collection and it turned out great.

I was inspired by the pack of title die cuts that comes with this collection and wanted to use as many as possible on one page.  That’s why I printed by photo big and square to be frames by the words. I also changed it’s colors to black and white and it will better fit the vibe of “No limits”.

My layout base is made out of “Spark” paper. It has very light and calm pattern in the middle and fun, mixed media like frame on the edges. I also fussy cut some stars from “Nebula” paper. I love patterns like this – with elements big enough to be cut. It helps to stretch your collection way further than a pack of ephemera pieces.

With a photo glued flat in the middle of the page, I started arranging the words around it. It was tricky to find right combinations – they needed to fit on the side of the square and make some sense as a phrase. Each word is glued down with a layer of foam tape for more dimension. I also added some fussy cut starts in the composition.

If you have some empty spaces left – don’t worry. You can fill them with stickers, ephemera pieces or other elements. I reached for cardboard stickers mostly, as they add great texture to every project. You can also spot few wooden buttons (my big love!). Big words look great accompanied by small phrases in different font so I added few word strips from stickers sheet. I finished my project by adding few super cute puffy stars here and there as a stronger color accents.

That is all for today. I hope I inspired you to use those die cut titles. You can arrange longer title with them, use single words and I even fussy cut single letters to make totally new words with them! Sky is the limit here.
