Happy Easter | Daydream | Josefine Van der Hoeven

Hello Paperlovers,

I hope you all had a wonderful easter weekend and welcome to the Cocoa Vanilla blog today! On this layout, I turned myself into an Easter bunny and chose for the amazing “Daydream” collection. One of my favorite things to do at Easter is painting eggs and, of course, baking fresh Easter cupcakes with the kids. The beautiful soft pastel shades from the “Daydream” collection fit this Easter theme perfectly. The cutfile of the bunny ears and the Easter eggs are from the Cricut store.

 

 

First, I cut eight strips of patterned paper to size and use two edge punches from Martha Stewart and stitch the top of the strips with light blue sewing thread. I place the strips of patterned paper centered on the white cardstock.

I placed my Easter selphy on top of the paper strips and start decorating on the left side of the photo. I used different embellishments from the “Daydream” collection and a view elements from the “These Days” collection. I found a view butterflies from my previous scrapbook project and they fit the theme perfectly. I layered the flowers, butterflies and a cute yellow heart from fabric by using double-sided tape and 3D foam.

 

 

I cut three Easter eggs from a piece of white cardstock just as I did with the bunny ears. I colored the eggs with three different colors of distress oxide inks. ( evergreen bough, mustard seed and kitch flamingo)  I playfully lay the colored  Easter eggs on top of each other on the right side of the photo then I placed the rabbit ears above the photo and I think it gives a very funny snapchat effect.

 

In some places of the strips of patterned paper I curl and fold it a little bit. With white gesso I make some fun and festive splatters on my layout. For the title I use the word “Happy” from the Cocoa Vanilla word ephemra and used a mustard colored alpha set from my own stash to create the word easter.

Happy Easter | Happiness collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends and Happy Easter!

It’s Tarrah back with you today, I hope you are enjoying Easter celebrations with loved ones! I was given the theme of Easter for my project this week and have created a scrapbook layout featuring the gorgeous Happiness collection!  The Happiness collection is so beautiful and perfect for my Easter themed layout documenting a sweet photo of my niece from last Easter!

I chose the gorgeous woodgrain paper from the Happiness collection for my background and trimmed down a piece of white cardstock to measure 11′ x 11′ adhering this on top of the woodgrain paper. I then machine stitched a border around the edge to add some texture and interest. Next I cut out a pretty floral Easter egg cut file from CUT to YOU from white cardstock also. I did attempt to machine stitch the very fine egg outline of the cut file, however it did not go that well with how thin this piece was. I took the A5 paper stack and chose some pretty papers from it to back the flowers and leaves in the cut file with. This was the most time consuming part of this layout but I LOVE how it looks. Once the flowers and leaves were all backed, I added craft foam to the underneath and adhered it in the centre of the white cardstock background. The thin outline of the egg, I did adhere this flat to the background as any sort of foam adhesive would have been visible.

I wanted to add a little bit of mixed media ( I know! Shock!) but not too much so I took a fine paintbrush and dipped it into my Tumbled Glass distress Oxide ink and painted around the outline of the egg shape on the right. I also added some water and the ink on some plastic packaging and did some small mist drops around the edge in 3 colours: Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick.  I love how the subtle misting and painting looks to define the cut file a bit more. One thing I love about cut files is, that they often help with the design of your page, with this one in particular, my photo placement was obviously going to be to the right of the florals. I adhered my photo to the die-cut frame, tucked in the frame from the Accessory Sticker sheet, added some twine through the hole in the top and then added craft foam underneath the frame to adhere it to my page. I stapled a banner sticker to the top right corner, added the phrase banner at the top and also added my title to the bottom of the frame.

To the left on top of the flowers in the cut file, I added more flowers from the floral ephemera pack, I just LOVE how bright and gorgeous those flowers look! I also added another flower on the right hand side, tucking it in under the frame. I also fussy cut some butterflies out of the ‘B’ side of the woodgrain paper and adhered those on the right as well. I bent up the wings to give the sense of movement and dimension on the layout. I added a heart from the clear sticker sheet here as well. Like with all of my layouts, I like to get the largest elements laid on my pages first and then embellish with smaller things like die-cuts and stickers etc.

My title is made up of the alphabet stickers from the Life is Beautiful collection. At the top of the photo, I tucked in the ‘Fun’ ticket die-cut from the ephemera pack and stamped the date stamp of when the photo was taken. I also added some of the word and phrase stickers from the Accessory sticker sheet around the page to help tell the story of my photo.

Happy Easter | Make a Wish collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. As we are currently enjoying the Easter break and counting down to the arrival of the bunny tomorrow, I wanted to share a layout featuring one of my favourite Easter photos of my kids. This one was taken 10 years ago, when my boys were still babies – I miss those little squishy faces!

For my layout I decided to dig DEEP into my stash and pull out a collection that I have used for Easter projects before – ‘Make a Wish’. Although this collection was originally designed as a birthday collection, it had the perfect colour palette for my cute Easter page.

Although I was working with ‘Make a Wish’, I did borrow the background paper from the ‘These Days’ collection as I wanted to start with a yellow base. I then applied some blue acrylic paint with a brayer to help define the focal area.

As I had some of the chipboard sheet left, I decided to use one of the frames to frame my photo with. (This is not something I often do, as I usually prefer to use frames for layering around my page.) I also added a couple of layers of patterned paper behind it, along with a small yellow paper doily and some frayed gauze for texture.

I knew before I started this layout that I wanted to include an egg shape on my page, so I decided to create a broken egg from patterned paper and position my photo as though it had come from inside the egg. I used a simple template and traced around it onto the paper, then cut it and positioned the pieces on either side of my photo, adding a little foam tape underneath to help pop it up from the page. I also cut out a strip of hand drawn grass which helped anchor everything on the page.

Tucked amongst the grass on the left side of my page, I added a sweet little chipboard bunny from the ‘Joyful’ collection. As the bunny was wearing a small sprig of mistletoe on its head, I covered it up with a small heart from the ‘Make a Wish’ Die Cut Ephemera pack.

From the same ephemera pack, I used a number of floral and leafy pieces to add some clusters around my page; plus two hearts, a pink bow and a butterfly. (You didn’t really think I’d have no butterflies on this page did you? haha) I added text to my page using a mix of stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet and a couple of chipboard pieces. (I especially loved the fact the small phrase stickers featured a mix of different coloured text.)

A tiny arrow from the puffy sticker sheet was the only other embellishment I used, then some pretty blue splatters around the page and I was done.

I hope you have gained some inspiration for scrapping your own Easter photos, and enjoyed the walk down memory lane using one of our old collections – I certainly had fun using it again after so long. Wishing you & your families a fun and safe Easter break with plenty of treats from the bunny!

Hey Cocoa Vanilla friends!

It’s Sophie on the blog today with a cute layout to share!

 

I used a collection that I LOVE: These Days! I paired it with a beautiful cut file from Echo Park Paper for the title of my page.

I cut the cut file on white textured cardstock on the left side of the page, and used it for my title. I placed a sweet photo of Sabrina and our dog Fiona right next to the title, mounted the photo on tissue paper, patterned paper and foam adhesive.

 

I backed the cut file with different patterned papers from the These Days A5 Paper Stack. I popped a few words slightly off from the cut words to add interest and dimension to the title.

 

I decorated with Die Cuts around the photo, scattered a few butterflies and handwrote my journaling on a wreath cut out from a pocket card.

This layout came together in no time at all! A big title cut file, a beautiful photo and a few embellishments from an amazing collection is all it takes to create precious memories!

Beautiful Life | Daydream collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share my layout inspired by our ‘All things Delightful’ April mood board. Here’s a reminder of of the beautiful mood board designed by Rachel.

I was inspired by the gorgeous images of the flowers and the rainbow in the mood board, as well as the use of soft pastel colours. I couldn’t go past the gorgeous Daydream collection for this layout, and of course the Over the Rainbow paper was just perfect! The photo that I chose to scrapbook is a selfie of my hubby and I, taken when we had a little mini getaway for a few days last year.

Using that gorgeous rainbow as my background made this layout come together so quickly and easily! I started by matting my photo using the Up in the Clouds paper and adhering it on the right hand side of the rainbow. As I often do, I used craft foam under the photo to give it some added dimension.

Next I fussy cut some flowers out of the stunning Garden Variety paper and created a beautiful floral cluster on the top right hand corner of the photo. By tucking some flowers underneath the photo and adding others on top it again gives the cluster some lovely dimension and interest.

On the bottom right hand corner of the photo I created a small embellishment cluster using a die cut house and banner, as well as a couple of sweet little Puffy Stickers from the These Days collection.

To balance out the larger floral cluster, I added another smaller one in the bottom left hand corner of the layout. This cluster was also fussy cut from the Garden Varity paper. The positioning of the two florals clusters gives the layout a diagonal flow, drawing the viewer’s eye from the top right hand corner, down through the photo to the bottom left.

For my title I decided on using words from the lovely Die Cut Titles pack. These are so versatile and make it super easy to add a beautiful title to your page. I used the words ‘Beautiful Life’ which perfectly summed up this photo.

I finished the layout off by adding some die cut butterflies and hearts, as well as some Puffy Heart Stickers. I also added my typed journaling strips in the upper right hand corner of the layout.

Lovely | Happiness Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura back again with a stash dive! This stunning Happiness collection is one of my all time favorites. To build this background, I cut a piece of the Expressive patterned paper in half diagonally and layered it onto navy cardstock. For the corners, I cut up a frame from the ephemera pack.

These lovely photos of a Tulip magnolia tree were a perfect color match to the bold pinks in this collection, so I knew it would compliment them. I added floral ephemera clusters on the inside corners of the stair-stepped photos and framed cut-aparts on the outside corners.

The tiny little florals are fussy cut from the A5 paper stack and I love the detailing these add to the page. With a little bit of gold Nuvo and ink spray for splattering, this one was done!

Happy Days | Sunkissed | Josefine Van der Hoeven

Hello Paperlovers,

It’s time for new inspiration from the beautiful and sunny ” Sunkissed” collection. I’m so happy to see you back on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog today. We are heading into spring and with the sunny weather coming up I couldn’t resist making a sunny layout with a beautiful summer memory.

For this layout, I challenged myself to use only pocket page cards, die-cuts (flower), stickers, word strips, puffy stickers and the gold glitter foam titles. I created six clusters on my layout. I started with the two flower clusters. I placed these diagonally across from each other. I folded the flowers a bit so that they have a little bit more dimension on the layout.

 

I stitched the two rainbow die-cuts on top of each other with light blue sewing thread. I placed these next to the flower cluster on the top right. I choose three colorful hearts and fold them in the middle then I placed the hearts playfully around the rainbow. I love the beautiful, fun and playful text on the pocket page cards. I choose a pocketpage card tear it a little at the top and stitch a tab on the side with blue sewing thread. I decorate the pocketpage card with a die-cut and a puffy sunglasses.

 

I absolutely love the cute little “Sunkissed” puffy stickers. I even used them on the flower clusters. I tried to create a little bit of the tropical vibe.  I cut a pocket page card to size and placed it behind the black and white photo of me and my hubby. I decorated the photo with a tiny heart and a colorful word die-cut. On the right side of the photo, I playfully stitched a view labels and word strips together with light bleu sewing thread. I playfully glued the labels on my layout and decorated them with three gold hearts.

 

In the center of the layout, I left extra space for the title. The awesome gold glitter title words fit perfectly on my sunny and tropical layout. I choose for the title “Happy Days” This title and of course the white gesso splatters make my layout complete.

Live Each Day With a Grateful Heart | These Days collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a sweet layout created with the gorgeous These Days collection!

I am documenting a lovely photo of my sister and our Mum together from a few years ago.

I started my layout by choosing a cut file from CUT to YOU and cut it out from the Good Life patterned paper, I was careful to have the heart placed in the centre of the paper so that it would leave the 12′ x 12′ paper in tact but just with a big heart cut out of it! I trimmed down a sheet of plain white cardstock and adhered this to the heart paper, being sure not to place adhesive here the heart was cut out.

I chose a variety of the patterned papers from the A5 paper stack and backed all the spaces in the heart with all of the different papers. I used up lots of this paper pack for this layout! I love how the heart looks with all of the papers backed in the spaces. Once the heart was all backed, I added craft foam underneath the cut file and then adhered it to the white cardstock background. Next I added one of the super cute gold puffy hearts to the centre of the heart cut out in the cut file.

I placed my photo over to the right and on top of the cut file, layering one of the 3′ x 4′ pocket cards under the photo to help enhance the photo and make it stand out from all the gorgeous colours in the various papers. My title is the small card to the left of my photo, I cut this out from the A5 paper stack. I also added the Hello banner sticker above the title as well. I just had to add some of the gorgeous florals from the floral ephemera pack, I tucked these in both on the left and on the right of the photo. I added more die-cuts here too and some phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet too.

Above the photo, I adhered the Happy die-cut title and at the bottom I tucked in one of the tab stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet. I stamped the date stamp on this tab. Around the outside edge of the heart, I added some of the gorgeous puffy hearts from the Puffy Stickers, I love how these look scattered around the large heart. A few more die-cuts like the butterflies and the tea cup finished off the embellishing of my layout and one of the last things added was one of the Wood Epoxy buttons.

Sweet | Happiness Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura back again with a bright and cheerful layout using the stunning Happiness collection! I am completely enamored with the pairing of bright, bold colors with deep, dark neutrals like navy. This is one of those collections that makes me smile every single time I pull it out! Perfect for some fun in the sun, backyard playground photos.

For this background, I used a set of metal heart dies to create these fantastic heart shaped frames. I backed them with this stunning watercolor stripe patterned paper and layered them behind my photos in a vertical column. My photos are interspersed with stunning floral ephemera pieces, cut apart labels and words, as well as fussy cut shapes.

One of the highlights to this layout were these stunning tassels from the ephemera pack! Such a fun detail to hang from the heart-shaped frames. With a bit of Nuvo for a touch of gold detailing and gold ink spray to finish it off, this layout was done!

Uni Life | These Days collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today for Throwback Thursday! I decided to dig into my stash and create a layout using the beautiful These Days collection. It was perfect for documenting these photos of my eldest daughter on her first day of uni!

I started my layout off with a sheet of the gorgeous Home Grown floral paper. Using a punch, I created a decorative border around the paper and then matted the patterned paper on a sheet of white cardstock. Next I trimmed down a sheet of the orange Wall of Fame paper to 9 inches square and layered that over the floral paper. I then matted my photos using the reverse side of the Home Grown paper and adhered them towards the top of the Wall of Fame patterned paper. So that the photos didn’t look like they were just floating, I gave them a ‘shelf’ to sit on by adding a strip of the woodgrain Pretty Posies paper underneath the photos. I also added a decorative element to this strip by punching a strip of leaves from the green Family Ties paper and adhering that across the woodgrain strip.

Using embellishments from both the Die Cut Ephemera and the Floral Ephemera packs, I created an embellishment cluster to the right of the photos. I tried to be intentional when selecting my embellishments for this page, choosing to use icons such as a typewriter and a stack of books, which tied in nicely with the theme of the layout.

I created another embellishment cluster in the bottom left hand corner of the layout, using more items from the Die Cut Ephemera pack. I chose the mug because my daughter loves to drink tea and often has a cuppa on the go while she’s doing uni work. I also added some typed journalling underneath this embellishment cluster.

To complete the visual triangle, I added a some more embellishing in the top left hand corner. I kept it fairly simple by just adding a banner and a tab as the page was already quite busy. The three embellishment clusters on the layout help to draw the viewer’s eye around the page.

For my title, I decided on using the beautiful Foam Title Stickers. However, as these photos were of a significant day, I didn’t necessarily want a generic title for this layout, so I decided to alter some of the letters to create the specific title that I wanted. The word ‘Life’ was already one of the words from the sticker pack, however to create the word ‘Uni’, I had to get a bit creative. I used the ‘U’ from the word ‘You’; the ‘N’ and the ‘I’ were both altered from other letters in the word ‘Home’. Don’t be afraid to alter embellishments to suit your layout. There’s no rules to say that you have to use them as is!
