Born to be Awesome | No Limits Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share for you all using a technique that I’ve used a few times in the past, one that is quite time consuming, but looks pretty awesome once complete. I’ve also dipped into more of the No Limits Collection while I’m patiently awaiting the new Storyteller collection to arrive on my doorstep.

This layout was definitely a labour of love, weaving tiny little strips of paper together to create 1 large pattern overloaded background, but the end result was well worth it! Documenting a fun moment shared between Leila and 2 of her cousins late last year when we were able to get together to celebrate her 11th birthday. Still cant believe we’re halfway to 12 now.

I had a rough idea of how this layout was going to come together, so I started off by marking out a section on white cardstock where the weaved strips were going to sit, then adhered a couple of weaved pieces in place towards the bottom to create a starting point that wouldn’t slip out while building the piece up. I’ve used papers from both the A5 paper stack and 12×12 papers and continued to weave the strips all the way to the top, adding tiny drops of glue here and there along the edges to keep it all straight. This process took a couple of hours to perfect to get the right balance of colours and patterns throughout the piece. Once complete I added the extra white cardstock pieces over the top and sewed them down to hold the weaved piece in place.

Next I added the photo stack, layered with contrasting blue pattern papers with clusters of fun pieces either side.

To the right side I’ve mixed multiple pieces from the ephemera pack along with fussy cut stars from the Nebula pattern paper. Most are adhered with foam tape to lift them up and create dimension. We all know that I can’t create a layout without adding a tonne of foam tape for dimension, I just cant help it lol

To the left I’ve added more fussy cut stars and ephemera pieces, both scattered and tucked into the layers of the photo stack. I’ve used so many stars in my last few layouts that I’m surprised I’ve still got plenty left.

I created a mixed font title using the AWESOME word from the Die Cut Titles pack and an edited version of the ‘Born to Be’ banner from the accessory sticker sheet.

Last bundle of goodness grouped together on the bottom right section of the layout using a bunch more stars, ephemera pieces and a chipboard sticker piece to complete the group.

I gave the whole layout a sprinkle of black ink then called it done. Here’s another look at the final layout…

Really happy with the end result, creating something magical to document a sweet little moment between some pretty awesome cousins.

Leila’s EPIC Adventure | Throwback Thursday – Legendary Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello and Happy Christmas Eve to you all! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share for “Throwback Thursday, our regular fortnightly throwback to beloved Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections from the past. This week I’m sharing a super fun layout using the awesome Legendary Collection which is perfect for documenting all kinds of funny moments, especially funny photo’s of my sweet Leila who just recently turned 10!

The layout was based on a fun title idea to use with a funny photo of Leila on a toddle ride at a local shopping centre. She’s way too big to fit in the actual seat so she was perched on top for her Epic Adventure to ‘Toy Land’.

I started the layout by making the title then worked around that to create the whole layout. I’ve used the woodgrain paper ‘Outdoors Type‘ as the backing and layered in a couple of other pattern papers ‘Offbeat‘, ‘Epic Tales‘ and ‘Wild one‘ to make the photo stack pop.

There’s some hidden journalling tucked into the top of the photo too, using a tag from the Ephemera Pack and shared up close further down this post.

I like creating titles with mixed fonts and this collection has plenty. I’ve fussy cut the EPIC letters found on the cut apart paper ‘Epic Tales‘ to give them a more 3D look when adhered to the layout with foam tape. Under this I’ve added a Die Cut Title word plus another strip piece from the cut apart paper. The alphabet stickers I used for Leila’s name are an older CVS product thats currently not available. To the right of the title I added the hot air balloon from the Ephemera Pack.

I added the giant stars from the Ephemera Pack to the top and bottom of the layout on a diagonal across from each other, then layered more Ephemera pieces and Accessory Stickers to create open clusters. I certainly love a cluster of stars, almost as much as I love a cluster of florals!

I used a range of adhesives to keep some pieces flat and give some slight dimension. More often than not I use my tiny attacher, foam tape and tiny glue dots. Oh and sometimes I sneak in a little machine stitching

To finish the layout I’ve splattered gold ink everywhere, added a sprinkling of Enamel Dots within the clusters and added the journalling to the hidden tag. It certainly was hilarious watching her try to squeeze into the seat that day!

Happy Days | Life Is Beautiful Digital | Anita Bownds

 Hi crafty friends, Anita here sharing a layout for throwback Thursday for my layout today I’ve chosen the life is beautiful digital collection all printed on paper specially for digital art … and then all fussy cut out..

I started of by printing out the paper and ephemera pieces and then fussy cutting it out it did take some time to cut out all those flowers but Netflix seems to make the time go quicker..lol
I adhered 2 strips of pattern paper with a scallop border at the top and bottom of the layout and started adding clusters of florals.

 

Then next I used my cameo and light pink cardstock to cut out a heart leaf wreath from @neatncraftycutz and adhered it in the Centre of my cardstock and then I matted my photo on pattern paper and adhered it in the middle of the heart and added a few bit of ephemera tucked in the top of the photo layouts.

 

Then I started layering more flowers on 2 sides of the photo building the cluster , I also used the cardstock titles from the day dream collection to add my title underneath my photo and I tucked a few more flowers and leaves around it.

 

Then I finished off the layout with a few butterflies and enamel dots.

Big Heart | Daydream Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle here today to share with you a new layout that I created with our BRAND NEW collection – Daydream. I’d give ALL the heart eye emojis for this collection, it is so beautiful! I spent an entire night on the couch fussy cutting and loving over all the sweet floral clusters from the Garden Variety paper. So so pretty!

For this layout I felt the need to recreate an older layout of mine using circular elements grouped with florals, stickers and a little machine stitching. I started by choosing a couple different pattern papers Daisy Days, Sweet Serenity, All Aflutter and cut multiple circles from each one. I fussy cut the outer ring off 1 of each colour circle to create a smaller circle and an open circle, then arranged them in clusters within a triangular design on some white cardstock.

I slightly distressed the edges of each circle before adhering with double sided tape and machine stitched through the ones that overlapped the edge of the layout. I also stitched through a little on the open circles.

Before adding anymore to the layout I added in the photos, a couple of Leila from a few years back being as sweet and crazy as she can be. I adhered the photos to some of the yellow pattern paper Sun Shower and added one of the sticker tabs to the top left photo.

Next up I added in the title using cardstock title pieces from this collection along with some older white alpha stickers and some handwriting. I’ve adhered the cardstock pieces using foam tape to pop them up off the page and then machine stitched through the stickers to ensure they stay put on that layout in years to come, which also adds a little extra detail to the layout.

I then added the pretty floral clusters that were fussy cut from the Garden Variety paper to the groups of circles. In this cluster I also added a sweet flair button, ephemera heart & mini flower plus an accessory sticker strip.

In the cluster above the photo I used a mix of fussy cut florals with ephemera florals layered using different forms of adhesive. The ‘You are my sunshine’ element is from the accessory sticker sheet and one of the first embellishments I knew I wanted to mix into this layout.

Lastly the bottom cluster made using another mix of ephemera and fussy cut florals, sticker strip and heart. I added my usual splattering of gold ink all of the layout and called it complete.

So very beautiful adventure | Unforgettable | Anita Bownds

Hi there crafty friends , Anita here sharing a fun sweet adventure layout using the beautiful Unforgettable collection
Our kitty Luna and I love going on little adventures around our garden..she manly just follows me around while I take photos of pretty flowers but she enjoys it as my girls are grown up now but she used to follow them around when ever they where playing…
With my layout today I wanted to try something new and tear my white cardstock down the middle removing about 2 inches to add a strip of glorious patterned paper behind.
Then I tore a bit from top left and bottom right to add more glorious patterned paper behind

 

Then I matted my photo on papers from the 6×8 and tucked ephemera into the layers to add colour and dimension
Then using one of the cardstock titles from legendary I added adventure below my photo

 

Then on the 2 sides that I add the patterned paper I clustered ephemera and adhered it down
Then I selected flowers from the ephemera and started layering them around the photo and a few in the clusters of ephemera 

 

I added some accessory stickers to my photo layers and one to the top of my title along with a clear sticker beside it to add more colour I then add splashes of ink across the layout to add more colour in the background .

 

 

And a few enamel dots to finish it off

Hey Kid | Legendary Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello friends!! Its Melissa here and I’m back again today with another layout made with the stunning Legendary collection – I really can’t stop creating with it!  I was given the task of focusing on the Die Cut Titles, so I decided to go all out! Go big or go home right?!

I took this photo of my newly turned 13 teenager (and only son) Sam on his first day ever of high school earlier this year.  He looked so smart in his tie and blazer, and I knew I just had to use the gorgeous map patterned paper, which is the B side to Outdoors Type, with a border of the blue and white stripe cut apart from the B side of Total Legend.

I decided to incorporate several of the Die Cut Titles into a letter to Sam, and I used a manual die for the remaining words (cut from Total Legend, One Way, and Wild One).  I used my sewing machine to add lines underneath the manual die words for extra texture and interest, and used Enamel Dots for punctuation.

For my photo I layered up some of the same papers, and then simply embellished with the star cut file which Gwen designed to accompany Legendary.  I backed the stars with Wild Once, and I love how it brings out the yellow in his tie.

Carrying on with the star theme, which works really well for both boys and back-to-school layouts, I used a couple of the gorgeous stars from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and placed them off the page for interest.  I embellished them with arrows from the ephemera pack and phrases from the Accessory Stickers.

A little ephemera tab with the word “memorable” was perfect tucked under my layers.

I’m so happy with this layout, and most importantly so is my son!! It means a lot when they are teenagers and still appreciate layouts that we mums make!

You are Magical | Happiness Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hi friends it’s Michelle back here with you today to share another layout I’ve made using my most favourite collection Happiness.

I stepped back in time a little with a photo of Leila at our local park and a fun scalloped banner cut file from CUT to YOU. I cut the designs out on a mix of bright fun patterns then layered them on some white card stock before machine stitching them all down one by one. The papers I’ve used are MEADOW, EXPRESSIVE, GOOD VIBES, FRAME OF MIND, BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL and SPRINKLES.

I added the photo to some of the BOTANICAL BLISS paper and adhered to the middle right of the layered scallops using some foam for added dimension. To the right of the photo I added some florals and bits from the EPHEMERA PACK along with some glitter enamels and a fussy cut flower from the floral side of BOTANICAL BLISS.


To the left of the photo I created a mixed font title using DIE CUT TITLE pieces and some older alpha stickers. I layered 2 letters together for each letter in the word Magical to give them a little extra dimension. To the left of this I created a second floral cluster using similar elements to the first.

At the top of the scalloped banners I’ve added a third smaller cluster, again using similar elements to the others to create a visual triangle.

Here’s a look at all that dimension those sewn scallop banners create.

Epic Legend | Legendary Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello again, it’s Melissa here and I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of April!! I hope you’re all well and finding some time to be creative.

I have another layout to share with the amazing ‘Legendary’ collection today, and its the toughest photo I’ve ever scrapped! This photo is of my brother in law Blair and our youngest daughter Ava a week after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2018.  Blair passed away in October 2019, and I’ve held off documenting any photos from his journey until now, mostly because I felt that I couldn’t do his memory justice.  But the Legendary collection speaks to me, and is perfect for documenting this special photo.

I knew that I wanted to fussy cut some of the stars from the ALL STAR paper and make a wreath to represent what a star Blair was during his nearly 1 year battle with cancer.  I used a cut file from Paige Evans, and backed the stars with several papers from the collection (including WILD ONE, TOTAL LEGEND and Brave Heart) that had small repeating patterns.  I also added some velum from my stash for some lightness. I matted my photo with ALL STAR and EPIC TALES and distressed the edges.

The OFFBEAT paper was perfect for my background as it helps direct the eye towards the centre of my page, and of course towards the photo.  I did some subtle machine stitching in white thread, and just drew a circle with pencil and stitched around it abut 5 times. Its always easier to machine stitch when it doesn’t have to be perfect!!

I didn’t do much embellishing on this layout, mostly because all of the stars are embellishment! But I did add a tab sticker, word sticker, die cut ephemera tab, and some of the clear stickers.  My title was easily made with two of the die cut words which I popped up on foam.

I will admit that I found this layout hard to make emotionally, but I’m so happy I finally managed to start scrapbooking Blair’s Epic Journey.  Blair was an amazing bother in law who was able to present to the New Zealand Government the largest cancer petition in history, and made significant changes to cancer care in my country before he passed away.  I’m so grateful for our wonderful memory keeping hobby, and I hope I’ve inspired you to scrapbook the photos and memories you find difficult too.

Super Sweet | Legendary Collection | Danni Visser

Hi again Cocoa Vanilla Studio fans!  Danni here with a Super Sweet layout to share using the colourful Legendary collection.  I was challenged to make flair buttons a feature on this layout, and I absolutely love flair, so I was really excited to get creating this one!  For this layout, I wanted to feature multiple smaller photos of my little boy enjoying this bowl of ice cream. Because of the dessert, I decided to use sweets as the theme!  I started with this super cool gumball machine cutfile and backed it with lots of different coloured patterns from the patterned papers in the collection.

For my background, I took the Wild One 12×12 paper and mounted it with a thin white cardstock border, then popped some bright yellow card stock in the centre. I love how the rainbow stripe really pops between the two layers of plain cardstock!  For some extra texture and to secure all the layers together, I machine stitched with white thread around the edge of the layers. Once my base was done, I added some peach and blue ink splatters on the background following a diagonal – this is roughly the way I planned to have my photos positioned across the page, so I wanted to draw the eye in the same direction with the splatters.

The photos were matted with alternating layers of One Way, Brave Heart and Explorer patterned papers, with 2 simple layers on each photo.  I went through and distressed the edges of my photo mats too – I just love the textural effect this provides! I arranged my photos in a cascade from the top of the cutfile to the bottom, making sure they overlapped each other and showed the progression of events.  How adorable is his little face?

Time for flair buttons!  I added them in three places, making sure to place one in the slot at the base of the machine, to looks as if a gumball was falling out.  I just love how that looks!  I went ahead and added some decorative clusters using the die cut ephemera and accessory stickers, taking care to strategically cover the random people in the background of the photos. I also punched a bunch of small circles from the patterned papers and used them to fill in any gaps.

For my title I used SUPER from the die cut titles and some white foam alphas to make ‘SUPER Sweet’.  I think that fits the theme of the layout quite nicely!  To finish off I added a sprinkling of enamel dots and a few lines of journaling in grey pen.

Super Star | Legendary Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle back here today with my newest layout share featuring the BRAND NEW collection to Cocoa Vanilla Studio – Legendary. OMG It is one heck of a collection! The bold masculine colours and designs are perfect for documenting both every day BOY themed layouts, but also sweet pages of little school rockstars!

Most of you all would know by now I generally only scrap layouts of Leila, so boy themed collections are a little tricky to navigate. But once I find a common theme within the papers and embellishments that work with anything other than boy related photos I run with it. Today I went a little nuts with the stars, my 2nd favourite design element to create with after florals. I chose a cut file that worked with the design I had in mind from CUT to YOU and a pattern paper  OFF BEAT  to use for the background that wasn’t white cardstock.

I focused on backing all the Stars of the cut file using both the star pattern paper  ALL STAR  and a couple of complimentary patterns  OFF BEAT & WILD ONE . I also added vellum to some of the smaller circles to soften all the colour that was popping off the page

I created a photo mat using a roughly torn reverse piece of  EPIC TALES  layered with corner pieces of the  OFF BEAT  pattern and a tag cut in half from the bottom cut apart section of  EPIC TALES  . The orange noteworthy tab is from the  EPHEMERA  pack . This whole piece is layered and raised up with foam sheets.

To the left of the photo I added the title using some of the  DIE CUT TITLE  words plus a couple of  ACCESSORY STICKER  strips

Along the bottom right I added a few extra  EPHEMERA  pieces with some cut file off cuts. Lastly I scattered stars from the  EPHEMERA  pack along with some  ENAMEL DOTS  and gold colour shine to add some finishing touches.
