Hey y’all! Laura Alberts here with a rainbow grid layout using the new Happy Days collection! I used four 3×4 photos of my child getting their hair bleached and dyed, which is a summer tradition of ours. I love the bold, vivid colors in this collection that were perfect for these photos!
Behind two of the photos I tucked frames from the specialty paper and I love the gold shimmer this gives to the layout! I added a banner on top of one and a cluster of hearts and flowers on the other. My title is from the chipboard and is added into the center of another frame.
For my journaling, I used a cut apart piece and incorporated it into the grid. For the embellishing, I stuck to small clusters around the page using fussy cut icons and ephemera. My favorite parts were the little butterfly trails and the puffy hearts!
I hope this layout inspires you to try the grid style! If you’d like to see “So Fun” come together, check out the process video below!
Hello everyone! Welcome in another month! My assignment for today was to create project with “Motherhood” theme in mind as a part of celebrating Mother’s Day. I am both a child and a mom so I could approach this topic in two ways. However, I barely have any photos with my own mom (she is live and kicking, just hates taking photos) so I decided to scrapbook my own story. When our kids are born, we usually focus on taking photos of them, all the cute feet and smiles and everything but we often forget to include us into the picture. Who can blame us? We usually look tired and exhausted when a new baby is born, with no time for any makeup or doing hair. I am one of those mothers too and with my first daughter born I honestly do not have any photo of me and her that I would scrapbook and share in the public. I remembered this lesson with kid no 2! When we came back from the hospital, I washed my hair, put some maskara and asked my hubby to take us few photos on our own couch. They are not perfect, they are not posed properly, but they are filled with all the love and tenderness a new mom feels toward her baby.
One of those imprefect photos made it to this page. Maja was only one week old here and I was still recovering but I remember this moment so vividly – the pure happiness flooding me with tears in the corners of my eyes. The prefect human I just made was finally there to be touched, held and kissed. So tiny yet so perfect.
I reached for brand new CVS collection called HAPPY DAYS. The perfect name of line to scrapbook such a precious memory. My photo has a lot of contrast and unusual color combination but I managed to find just a perfect papers in this collection. I started with white, textured cardstock quickly drawing few wonky hearts on it using very soft watercolor crayons in four colors. Some are bigger and some are smaller. My custom made background was done withing few minutes.
Next step was to cut two tags and a rectangle from A5 PAPER STACK papers to create a composition. After glueing them down to the background, I took my fussy cutting scissors and LUSH BLOOMS and FLUTTERBY papers and I cut out bunch of flowers and butterflies in matching colors.
I glued them down and went through EPHEMERA PACK to find other elements that would fit my composition. I also created a title using CHIPBOARD TITLES. Some of the words are used as they were supposed to and some of them are a random letters pulled out from other words. This way “sweet” turned into “meet”. I just skipped S and rotated W into M. Just another way to spread your possibilities of using up scrappy stuff.
I finished the design by adding few puffy hearts for more texture. I really like the color combo on this page – I would probably not think of it if not the colors in the picture. It proves how versatile HAPPY DAYS collection it! With all the colors of the rainbow, you can easily pick only few to play with.
That is all for today! thank you so much for stopping by and see you again in two weeks.
Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here and I am SO excited to be sharing my first design team project using the brand new ‘Happy Days’ collection. I am sure by now you have seen the collection in full (either here on the blog or in person), so I know you will agree with me when I say how gorgeous it is! All those bright, vibrant colours really do make me happy.
For my first layout I decided to document some recent happy photos I took – my daughter on her 15th birthday. She was ecstatic to receive her first pair of “Docs” (Dr Marten boots) as a gift – definitely a happy day for her.
I chose to start with the yellow plaid pattern on the B side of the “Feel Good” paper, which is the cut apart sheet for this collection. I didn’t really want to sacrifice the cut apart first up, but I could not resist that gorgeous happy yellow for my background. To add a little extra colour I added some teal acrylic paint using 2″ wide brush and the dry brush technique. Initially I had planned for the brush strokes to be horizontal on the page, but after spinning the page, I decided I like them better vertical.
Next, I started building my paper layers. I matted each of my three photos using the sweet strawberry print on the B side of the “Lush Blooms” paper. I also used an extra piece of this paper to place horizontally across the page as an anchor point for my photos. I tore along one edge to add a textural element. I topped the strawberry paper with a thin stripe of plum purple, which was cut from the top edge of the striped pattern on the “Sunshine Lollipops” paper. I then added some frayed gauze and an aqua paper doily before adding my photos on top.
Now it was time to start embellishing my page. I couldn’t resist reaching for the gorgeous florals from the collection; so I used a mix of flowers fussy cut from the “Lush Blooms” paper and pieces from the Floral Ephemera pack. The first cluster I created was around the top left corner of my photos. I also used a small banner piece from the Die Cut Ephemera pack across the top edge of my photo.
The second cluster I created was below the centre photo and here I used a larger fussy cut floral piece with foam tape behind it to add a little height. (I had already planned at this point that my title was going to go alongside it, even though I hadn’t added it yet.) With two clusters in place, it was time to add my third cluster to balance my page.
The position of the last floral cluster was alongside the photos on the right edge. The positioning of this final cluster completed my visual triangle around the focal point of my page. Again, I used some foam tape to create dimension.
With all the flowers in place, I then set about adding some text to the page. I chose the die cut hello flag from the ephemera pack to place along the bottom edge of my main photo. This formed the first part of my subtitle, which was Hello 1st Docs, with the letters for the second part coming from the Mini Puffy Alphabet Stickers pack. The main part of my title, So Awesome, was using words from the Chipboard Titles pack.
At this point it was simply a matter of a few finishing touches. I created a small cluster along the bottom edge of the page using a scrap of paper, a flower, a phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet and a sweet little heart shaped Puffy Sticker. I added a couple of extra phrase stickers and heart puffy stickers to the page as well. I also added a die cut butterfly (I am sure you already know how much I love them) and the final finishing touch was one of the gorgeous Puffy Hearts stuck directly onto my centre photo. Oh, and a little black ink splatter.
And that was it!! I hope you love my layout and it inspires you to get creative too. Even if you don’t have the ‘Happy Days’ collection yet, grab out some other Cocoa Vanilla goodies and get busy! ‘Happy Days’ is already shipping to retailers so keep an eye out at your favourite store.
Hey y’all! Laura back again with a new layout featuring the stunning new collection Happy Days! These sweet photos from our trip to Michigan over Thanksgiving were perfect for this color scheme and I just had to give them a big bold purple mat to let them pop off the page!
One of my favorite pieces in this collection are these puffy fabric hearts! They are so soft and add a sweet, whimsical feel to the page. I used them to embellish the cut-apart labels that I wrote out my journaling on.
Â
To give my design a little extra flair, I layered some floral and icon ephemera with this “Awesome” cut-apart piece to create a dramatic title that helps focus the attention on my photos as well as accent the shape of this simple, linear design.
I hope this layout inspires you to pull out your puffy embellishments from Happy Days or any of the past collections and give them some love! To see how “Awesome” came together, check out the process video below.
Hello, hello! It’s Anna here and I have a brand new layout to share with you. I just got brand new “Happy days” collection and I couldn’t wait to start creating with it. As always, first project is somehow hard as there are so many options and decission making process is complicated. So many patterns and colors to choose from! I like to focus on limited color combo at first or even make a monochromatic page to help me narrow the choices. This time I decided to use pink – yellow – plum colors with a bit of green added.
I started with white cardstock and green ink applied with a soft brush. Next I added some texture using white chalk paste and floral stencil and left it to dry. In the meantime, waiting for the background to dry, I started fussy cutting flowers from LUSH BLOOMS PAPER. I like having a lot of florals on hand even though I have three full packs of FLORAL EPHEMERA. You can never have too many of them!
After my background was dry, it was time to add some pretty papers and embellishments. My idea for this page was to create banners on the string using different patter papers. The biggest one is made with yellow FEEL GOOD PAPER. Second one is cut out from LUSH BLOOMS PAPER (the same one I cut out flowers too!). Smallest banner in plum color is cut out with cute FLUTTERBY PAPER. I added some holes for the string to each one and glued them down to my base.
With all my main elements in place, I was ready to add my photo on the biggest banner. I decorated it with previously fussy cut flowers, some EPHEMERA pieces and butterflies cut out from FLUTTERBY PAPER. I also reached for pretty PUFFY HEARTS pack to add them here and there.
My title is a combination of word “happy” taken from EPHEMERA PACK with word “times” taken from CHIPBOARD TITLES. They look fantastic together. I love this font so much! Here I also added some flowers.
The smallest banner is decorated similar way as the other ones – with flowers and butterflies. You can also spot some cute, puffy stickers in heart shapes as a finishing touch. After finishing my composition I decided I needed to add something on the top and in the bottom of the layout as it seemed too white so I cut off strips of the papers I used for banner and glued them down! Now my page was done!
That is all for today! I hope you like my page! I already have an idea for few other projects with this line. Sending you a lot of hugs.
I cut two strips of the “Take Flight” polka dot paper and placed them on the top and bottom part of a 12×12 thick white cardstock. I added some stitching with yellow thread and white embroidery floss.
I used a precious photo of me and my son Gabriel. I mounted it on tissue paper and foam adhesive, and centered it on the page.
I fussy cut three frames out of the “Wall of Fame” paper that I placed around the photo, and decorated them with Die Cut Ephemeras, stickers and fussy cut flowers.
I created my title with a mix of alpha dies from my stash and some Foam Title Stickers from the collection.
I placed a few phrases from the Accessory Stickers sheet, and scattered a few butterflies as the finishing touch.
Here are more close-ups:
I am so happy with the result and hope you like it too!
Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. As we are currently enjoying the Easter break and counting down to the arrival of the bunny tomorrow, I wanted to share a layout featuring one of my favourite Easter photos of my kids. This one was taken 10 years ago, when my boys were still babies – I miss those little squishy faces!
For my layout I decided to dig DEEP into my stash and pull out a collection that I have used for Easter projects before – ‘Make a Wish’. Although this collection was originally designed as a birthday collection, it had the perfect colour palette for my cute Easter page.
Although I was working with ‘Make a Wish’, I did borrow the background paper from the ‘These Days’ collection as I wanted to start with a yellow base. I then applied some blue acrylic paint with a brayer to help define the focal area.
As I had some of the chipboard sheet left, I decided to use one of the frames to frame my photo with. (This is not something I often do, as I usually prefer to use frames for layering around my page.) I also added a couple of layers of patterned paper behind it, along with a small yellow paper doily and some frayed gauze for texture.
I knew before I started this layout that I wanted to include an egg shape on my page, so I decided to create a broken egg from patterned paper and position my photo as though it had come from inside the egg. I used a simple template and traced around it onto the paper, then cut it and positioned the pieces on either side of my photo, adding a little foam tape underneath to help pop it up from the page. I also cut out a strip of hand drawn grass which helped anchor everything on the page.
Tucked amongst the grass on the left side of my page, I added a sweet little chipboard bunny from the ‘Joyful’ collection. As the bunny was wearing a small sprig of mistletoe on its head, I covered it up with a small heart from the ‘Make a Wish’ Die Cut Ephemera pack.
From the same ephemera pack, I used a number of floral and leafy pieces to add some clusters around my page; plus two hearts, a pink bow and a butterfly. (You didn’t really think I’d have no butterflies on this page did you? haha) I added text to my page using a mix of stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet and a couple of chipboard pieces. (I especially loved the fact the small phrase stickers featured a mix of different coloured text.)
A tiny arrow from the puffy sticker sheet was the only other embellishment I used, then some pretty blue splatters around the page and I was done.
I hope you have gained some inspiration for scrapping your own Easter photos, and enjoyed the walk down memory lane using one of our old collections – I certainly had fun using it again after so long. Wishing you & your families a fun and safe Easter break with plenty of treats from the bunny!
Hey y’all! Laura back again with a stash dive! This stunning Happiness collection is one of my all time favorites. To build this background, I cut a piece of the Expressive patterned paper in half diagonally and layered it onto navy cardstock. For the corners, I cut up a frame from the ephemera pack.
These lovely photos of a Tulip magnolia tree were a perfect color match to the bold pinks in this collection, so I knew it would compliment them. I added floral ephemera clusters on the inside corners of the stair-stepped photos and framed cut-aparts on the outside corners.
The tiny little florals are fussy cut from the A5 paper stack and I love the detailing these add to the page. With a little bit of gold Nuvo and ink spray for splattering, this one was done!
I hope this layout inspires you to dive into your stash for some crafty fun soon! To see how “Lovely” came together, check out the process video below:
Hey y’all! Laura back again with a bright and cheerful layout using the stunning Happiness collection! I am completely enamored with the pairing of bright, bold colors with deep, dark neutrals like navy. This is one of those collections that makes me smile every single time I pull it out! Perfect for some fun in the sun, backyard playground photos.
For this background, I used a set of metal heart dies to create these fantastic heart shaped frames. I backed them with this stunning watercolor stripe patterned paper and layered them behind my photos in a vertical column. My photos are interspersed with stunning floral ephemera pieces, cut apart labels and words, as well as fussy cut shapes.
One of the highlights to this layout were these stunning tassels from the ephemera pack! Such a fun detail to hang from the heart-shaped frames. With a bit of Nuvo for a touch of gold detailing and gold ink spray to finish it off, this layout was done!
I hope this layout inspires you to dig out your older stash to have a play! Those collections from the past deserve some love too! To see how “Sweet” came together, check out my process video below:
Hello everyone. It’s Anna here with my newest layout. As I am waiting impatiently to dive into brand new and recently released new line called “Happy days”, I pulled out some older but still pretty collection from my stash called “These days”. If you do not have it yet, there are still plenty of elements available in CVS store and they have some crazy awesome prizes! So go quickly and grab it while you still can.
I scrapbooked picture I took the same day (totally fresh from the oven!) of my two girls getting ready for a birthday party. They are recently in the phase they both like dark (preferably black) colors so this mama is missing all the pink and pastel photos so much. That’s why using “These days” with it’s muted colors was a great choice.
I started with cutting out big letters from a word PARTY with my digital die cutting machine using “Family ties” paper. This colorful pattern has all the colors present in this collection. I arranged my letters on the white cardstock and used my pencil to gently sketch an outlines of them.
Next step was chosing five different colors of Distress Inks and blending them under each letter stepping out ot the lines a little bit, to create sort of colorful shadow. The final result is very subtle, exaclty how I intended it to be. I still have plenty of flowers in my Floral Ephemera pack, so I picked a few adding them color on color (matching the inky shadow witht the flowers). Before I started glueing them down, I added a layer of foam tape under each letter for more dimension.
I love all the papers with elements that can be fussy cut from them, like flowers or butterflies. I always buy more than one paper and I can make myself plenty of extra ephemera pieces. It can strech your collection so much more. This was the case with beautiful “Take flight” paper filled with butterflies. I cut out few of them and added them on top of the letters. I also reached for Ephemera Pack and found more matching elements to tuck under the letters.
With my title almost done, it was time to finally add my photo. I had a perfect spot in the bottom left corner. Before glueing it down, I backed the picture with cute pattern paper with hearts called “Good life”. All I had to do was to add some smalled puffy stickers, clear stickers and 6*12 stickers here and there. I also finished my title adding word “time” using super cute puffy alpha stickers.
And voila! The page is done. Another memory scrapbooked! That is all for today. Don’t forget about the great discount on “These days” collection, that is waiting for you in CVS Shop! I am sure it’s not the last time I am reaching for this amazing line.
