Love This | Storyteller collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share another layout featuring the new Storyteller collection! I’m especially loving the gorgeous bright colours and the beautiful florals in this collection, which I think perfectly complement this lovely photo of my kids with their cousins and their grandparents.

I started this layout off by cutting a large heart out of the centre of a sheet of white cardstock. I knew that I wanted to back the heart with one of the patterned papers from the collection, and I couldn’t go past using the gorgeous Brighter Days paper. This is one of my favourite papers from the collection! I decided to cut apart the coloured stripes on the paper so that I could distress the edges of each before adhering them back together on another sheet of cardstock. Once I’d done this, I then added the piece with the cut out heart over the top. I love the way this adds lots of colour and texture inside the heart! You can see that I also added a layer of craft foam between the white cardstock and strips of patterned paper to give the layout some extra dimension.

Next I matted my photo with one of the papers from the A5 Paper Stack and then adhered it on the right hand side of the heart.

To highlight the rainbow of colours on the Brighter Days patterned paper, I decided to keep my embellishing tone-on-tone. I started at the top left hand corner of the heart where I clustered together some Floral Ephemera pieces and a Die Cut camera, all in the pink and red tones. I adhered some with foam tape, and others I stuck directly to the background to give the cluster lots of interest.

Moving down the page, I created another embellishment cluster on the yellow section, again using tone-on-tone embellishing. This cluster includes more Floral Ephemera, as well as a couple of Chipboard Stickers.

Finally, I created a third cluster on the green and blue section, using similar elements that I’d used in the previous two clusters. I also added a Wood Epoxy Button to the centre of one of the flowers in this cluster. You’ll notice that the three clusters are positioned diagonally down the page, drawing the viewer’s eye from the larger cluster in the top left, down through the title and photo, and to the cluster in the bottom right.

For my title I decided on using the ‘Love this’ words from the Chipboard Stickers, which I added above the photo.

To finish the layout off I added a sprinkling of smaller elements around the three embellishment clusters. For this I used the little hearts and dots from the Puffy Stickers, as well as a couple of Chipboard hearts.

Storyteller | Remember This | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends, I am excited to share my first layout using the stunning new collection Storyteller.

I have used a photo of my daughter and framed it with a butterfly cut file frame which I cut from the yellow plaid paper in the A5 paper pad. I decided to not go with a white background paper and use the woodgrain paper (Cross it Off). I found this gorgeous cut file (JustNick Studio) which enabled me to use two patterns/colours papers. I chose the beautiful smaller floral print paper, Ditsy Daisy, the blue plaid is on the reverse. I added the hearts with foam tape to add dimension to my layout.

I next added my photo in the butterfly frame, off centre and left of my layout. I did not adhere the edges of my frame so I could do back and add embellishments under and around.

I added yellow puffy heart stickers to the centre of the butterflies. I used the banner phrase sentiment from the die cut ephemera and added with foam tape. I next created a floral bunch using the floral ephemera, layering under and over, some adhered with foam tape and finished off with die cut leaves.

I created another embellishment cluster using the camera die cut as the focus point, using the accessory stickers to create my sub journalling. I added the small heart wood epoxy button to the lens of the camera and lastly a butterfly die cut.

To finish off my layout I randomly added butterfly die cuts over my page and one of the super cute buntings banner die cut which I layered up with a die cut button and another butterfly.

I just adore the colours of this collection, so versatile for all types of scrapbooking and paper crafts! Thank you for stopping by today and have a fab week!

So Awesome | No Limits collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am very excited to share with you my first layout featuring the awesome NEW No Limits collection!

This collection is just amazing and I absolutely LOVE that I can create boy layouts with it! You do not have to have boys though as the colours and so many of the elements can be used for any themed projects too!

I decided to create a 12′ x 12′ layout with a frame look. I gutted some of the middle of the yellow side of the Latitude paper to create the frame. I then machine stitched around the opening in black thread. I added craft foam underneath the frame and then adhered it to the Stardust paper. I like how this created a shadow and added some dimension to my layout. I took the teal coloured A5 paper from the A5 paper stack and cut a strip to fit vertically down the right side of my page. I knew that this was where I was going to place my photo and some of the detail so this paper helped to ground these elements to the background. Next I cut out the rainbow stripe strip of paper from the Universal paper and adhered it horizontally along the bottom of the layout – leaving about a 2 inch gap from the edge of the yellow frame. 

I added foam tape underneath the photo of my son and and layered one of the frames from the ephemera pack and also took one of the 3′ x 4′ cards and layered this slightly to the left of the photo. I also adhered one of the arrow die cuts here and added the You’re the Best chipboard from the chipboard pack. The Cool Kid sticker is from the Accessory sticker sheet and I placed that below the You’re The Best chipboard piece. My title is So Awesome and is made up of the awesome Die-Cut titles. I popped these up using foam tape as well. On top of the photo in the top right corner I stapled a banner sticker from the Accessory sticker sheet. Below the title, I added some more phrase stickers and the Born to be Awesome chipboard piece.

Whenever I create a layout, I always start off with the larger elements on my page like the photo, the papers and the title, I then add the smaller embellishments at the tale end of my project like puffy stickers, small die-cuts, wooden buttons and accessory stickers. Above the photo I added the chipboard banner piece that says Fun Fun and added some stars here is puffy and die-cut form. On the right of the photo, I added the tab sticker from the Accessory sticker sheet, in the bottom right corner of the photo, I added a puffy sticker star and a wooden button. At the beginning of the word ‘So’ I added another die-cut star and layered a puffy star over the top also.

Lastly I stamped the date stamp and my layout was complete.

BLOOM | THESE DAYS | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative Friends,

Gwen with you on the blog today sharing a new layout using the ‘These Days’ collection.  We are doing a bit of a Scrap-lift on the blog this week and I’m super excited to be inspired by a layout created by Laura Alberts.  I’ve included an image below of her layout so you can see all the inspiration I’ve had for my page.

There is so much about Laura’s page that inspires me.  I was first drawn to the frames in her background and their grid like format.  Then I was drawn to her black and white portrait image finished off with a striking black border on her layout.  For my layout, I simply started with those three elements and went from there.  I’ve pulled from my stash the same black and white pattern paper she has used for her outside edge (More than Words Collection – Gossamer) and then teamed it with the latest ‘These Days’ collection.  I’ve also found a black and white portrait photo to use, just as she has.  This one is a photo of me and I thought, why not use it, I don’t scrapbook myself nearly enough :)  I know I’m also going to use some butterfly embellishments just as she has in her page.

For the background of the layout, I’m using the ‘Home Grown’ pattern paper.  I love using pattern paper rather than card stock for my page backgrounds, this one is a pretty shade of yellow.  I’ve then pulled out a cut file from CUT to YOU, this one is a lovely mix of floral and frames.  I wanted to replicate the frames on Laura’s layout here.  I have gone ahead and backed the cut file using the A5 paper pad and then left the frames all open so that my lovely yellow background will show through.

Next, I’ve backed my photo and then fussy cut out a few of the pretty frames from the ‘Wall of Frame’ pattern paper.  I’m going to use these to layer into the frames in my cut file for something different.  This is a great way to give a bit of a backed look to the cut file, without the hard work.  The frames in this pattern paper are super quick to fussy cut out.  I’m using both of these elements taking inspiration from the frames in the background of Laura’s page.

I have positioned my photo to the left of the page so that you can see most of the floral elements in my cut file on the right.  From there, I’ve created three embellishment clusters using lots of elements from the collection.

I’ve featured elements from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera pack’ as well as florals from the ‘Floral Ephemera’ pack.  For the title of my page, I’m going with a sticker that says ‘Bloom where you are planted’ from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’.  I’ve also used the typed sentiment stickers on the bottom of that sheet adding them to my page with foam tape for dimension.

To finish up the page, I’ve added in 3 of the ‘Wooden Buttons’ and they really help draw the eye around the layout as well as adding some lovely texture to the page.

Summer Love | Sunkissed | Rachel Lowe

Hey crafty friends, it maybe cold and gloomy outside but it is summer in my craft room! I love the colours of Sunkissed collection so much and so before These Days arrived (which I can’t wait for) I am happily creating away remembering summer!

The folded heart (rosette heart) is a cut file from the Silhouette Design store. I oversized mine as I wanted it to be the feature on my layout. I used the Growing Wild paper to create the hear. I used the left over paper strip (using the floral side) of the Growing Wild paper, tearing at the top and bottom of the strip. Before adhering my white cardstock I tore another paper strip from the Summer Lights paper using the pink part of the ombre paper and tucking it under my floral strip. Finally to soften I add a 7x 5 inch strip of Vellum paper tearing at the bottom only.

I next added my folded heart, I used a wet glue to ensure it wasn’t going to move or lift. I have used a 4×4 inch square photo which I matted onto a square of Feelin Fine  paper. 

I have created embellishment clusters in a triangle configuration with my photo at the centre. This is important to do when you are using ‘busy’ patterns and ‘bright’ colours. I added a small cluster of flowers (using the Floral Ephemera pack), adding some gold thread and finishing off with one of the gorgeous Wood Epoxy Buttons.

Under this embellishment cluster I added another, using the fruits from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and finishing off again using another, but smaller wood epoxy button.

I created a large and cascading cluster of the gorgeous tropical flowers from the photo flowing onto the vellum and white cardstock. Again I added gold thread under the outer flowers. To create dimension some were added over others with foam tape. I also added clear NUVO jewel drops on some of the centres and leaves. I added two phrase sentiments from the die cut ephemera pack.

I used one of the words from the Glitter Foam Titles and curved it gently around the top of the heart.

And there you have it one super fun summer layout and of course you could use a larger photo and add two smaller ones over the heart. Thank you for stopping by and happy creating!

Memories | Sunkissed Collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here with you today to share a new layout using the gorgeous Sunkissed collection! This week on the blog our design team are creating projects featuring either circles or squares. I have to admit that usually I would be more comfortable creating with squares, so that’s what I initially planned to use for my project. But I decided to challenge myself to use circles instead, and I’m so glad I did because it was a lot of fun!

I documented a cute photo of my youngest daughter Eleanor at the pool when we were on holidays in January.

I started my layout off by trimming my white cardstock background down to  10 inches, and matting it on the Just Chillin patterned paper. I also added some machine stitching around the edge of the white cardstock to give the page some additional texture. I then went ahead cutting various size circles out of the Sunny Days, Feelin Fine, and Bright Side patterned papers. There are so many gorgeous colours in this collection, but for this layout I decided to keep my colour palette to the teal, pink and blue. For this reason, I chose to use the more subtle b-sides of the papers to allow me to feature those three particular colours. Once I’d cut out my circles, I arranged them on the page so that they flowed from the top to the bottom, with some overlapping.

To continue with the circle theme I decided to cut my photo into a circle as well (I don’t remember the last time I did this!). I matted it with the Feelin Fine patterned paper and added some craft foam underneath it to help it to really pop off the page! I embellished around the photo with some flowers from the Floral Ephemera pack, and then added my title around the top of the photo using one of the gorgeous Glitter Foam Title Stickers.

I adhered my typed journaling to the pink circle at the top of the page. I also added another Floral Ephemera piece to this cluster, as well as one of the fun Wood Epoxy Buttons. I love that the wood buttons add another circular element to the layout!

I created another point of interest on my layout to the right of my photo. I embellished these circles with a beautiful die cut rainbow, a label from the  Accessory Sticker sheet, and another Wood Epoxy Button.

The final little cluster of embellishments is at the bottom of the page on the teal circle. Here I chose to add a blue flower from the Floral Ephemera pack, as well as a little die cut banner. You’ll notice that I kept my embellishing to the same colour combination that I chose for my patterned papers, focusing on the pinks, blues and teals in the collection.

Around my photo, I added three little flowers that I fussy cut out of the Growing Wild patterned paper. The visual triangle that this creates helps to direct the viewers eye towards the photo. To finish the layout off, I added a few little phrase stickers from the Accessory Stickers, and lastly I sprinkled around some Unforgettable enamel dots.

Life is a Beach! | Sunkissed Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends, it may be winter here in Australia but in my craft room it is summer! I am still using my sun kissed collection and loving it!

I was set the challenge to scrap lift Tarrah, it took me ages to decide on a layout as she has created so many gorgeous layouts. Finally I settled on this one.

And here is my take on her sketch (I may have taken a little creative license!).

I used a palm leaf cut file from the Silhouette design store. So I could lift it somewhat (so it didn’t appear ‘flat’, I cut one in white and then another (using the off set function) using the Sunny Days paper. As in Tarrah’s layout I used a project life card from the collection, I just repositioned mine.

Once I had added my photo I created an embellishment cluster tucking die cuts under my photo, adding wooden epoxy button and finishing off adding a clear sticker paint brush stroke.

I next created a tropical floral cluster, the larger one being a cut file and the others from the floral ephemera pack adding some of the flowers and leaves from the Puffy Stickers pack.

To finish off I added some puffy stickers on my photo, added a die cut ticket and then lightly splashed my layout with some white paint. If you like multiple photos you could replace the project life card and add another photo! Isn’t it mazing how different a sketch can look just by changing the collection!

Hello Sunshine| Sunkissed | Gwen Wruck

Hi Creative friends,

Gwen back on the blog today with a new share featuring the ‘Sunkissed‘ collection.  For this layout, I asked everyone in the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Community on Facebook if I should add in some Mixed Media to my page… and the resounding answer was YES, so I’m adding it Gwen style which is a ‘clean mixed media’ look.  I’ve gone with a bright pink colour as it really works well for this bright and happy collection.  This layout documents this fun photo of my daughter and I on a recent family vacation.

To begin the page, I mapped out a plan for the layout design getting a clear idea of where my title and photo would go.  From there, I added some mist through a 6×6 star-bust design stencil from my stash to my background.  While my mist was drying, I backed my cut file (from CUT to YOU) using papers from the A5 paper stack and backed with 3D foam for dimension.

Next, I’ve used my sewing machine to add stitching to my background and photo and then positioned my cut file title and photo onto my layout base.

For the embellishments, I’m working with the larger pieces first such as the cute palm tree and clouds.  The are from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera pack‘ and then I’m moving to the smaller embellishments like the ‘Puffy Stickers‘ and ‘Wood Epoxy Buttons‘.  I’m working on three main embellishment clusters for this page, one above the right top corner of my photo, the second on the right hand side of my photo and the third one towards the bottom left hand side of my photo.

You can also see above my mixed media sun-burst from the stencil.  I love how it’s a small detail but it adds a really fun element to the page.  The Sun icon you see in the picture below is from the ‘Puffy Sticker pack’ and works so well with the clouds, the sun burst and palm tree on my page.

To finish up the page, I’ve added some typed sentiments from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet‘ which I have mounted onto foam tape for dimension as well as some small die cut hearts from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera Pack‘.

Fun in the Sun | Sunkissed | Gwen Wruck

Gwen back on the blog today with a new share featuring the ‘Sunkissed‘ collection.  For this layout, I thought it would be fun to pull out some of my metal dies and my Sizzix machine.  I’ve cut out a bunch of floral elements to create a fun background for my layout.

To begin the page, I’ve die-cut out a stack of floral elements from the ‘Feeling Fine‘ pattern paper.  I love this pattern paper as it has a mixed media look about it, without the mess and warping that comes with making one myself.  All that hard work is done :)  I’ve also used this paper as the border for my page with my background being a pink piece of cardstock from my stash.

For the die-cut florals, I have three different sizes to work with and have just arranged them onto the background of my page randomly.  No real method for this, I was just careful to spread out the colours in the pattern paper evenly.

Next, I’ve backed my 4×4 photo also using this pattern paper.  I’ve added stitching around the edge and around the edge of my page for added detail.

For my embellishments, I’ve created the main cluster to the left of my photo which also includes my title ‘Fun in the Sun’.  This title piece and this darling rainbow are from the ‘Ephemera Pack‘.    You will also find the fun flag that says ‘Hello’ in this pack and loads of other super fun Summer themed icons.  I’ve also added bright florals in yellow and blue from the ‘Floral Ephemera pack‘.

For some dimension, I’ve included several of the ‘Wood Epoxy Buttons‘, I just love the soft wood tone in these, they are so fun to add to a page.  You can also see here a few elements from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet‘ including the sticker above my photo that says ‘Summer Days’ and the typed sentiment sticker below my photo that says ‘Holiday Highlights’.

To finish off the page, I’ve added Enamel Dots from my stash into the center of each of the flowers and then added some small puffy sticker hearts from the ‘Puffy Sticker sheet‘.
