Sweet Heart | Storyteller collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today, and I’m so excited to be sharing my first layout featuring the gorgeous new Storyteller collection! I absolutely adore the beautiful colour palette, the sweet images, and of course the pretty florals in this collection! It is definitely going to be a fave of mine! For my first layout I decided to document a photo of my eldest daughter from about ten years ago. The reason I haven’t yet scrapped this photo is that I’ve never been able to find a girly collection that matches the reds and blues in the photo… until now! The Storyteller collection was perfect, and I’m so glad to have this sweet photo of my daughter documented!

I always find it hard when I get a new collection to just start cutting straight into the 12×12 papers. So for my first time playing with these beautiful products, I decided to make use of the A5 Paper Stack. I chose four different designs from the A5 papers and cut them to various widths and layered them together down the left and right hand sides of the page. I also matted my photo with one of the A5 papers and adhered it over the layers on the right hand side. I used craft foam to adhere it to make sure that it would stand out from the various patterned papers behind it.

Of course I couldn’t resist fussy cutting some of the florals clusters from the Spring Fling patterned paper to embellish my page. If you don’t enjoy fussy cutting, the good news is that this collection includes a Floral Ephemera pack which is full of lots of beautiful flowers and leaves. I started my embellishing by creating a cluster on the bottom left hand corner of the photo. I included one of the fussy cut florals, as well as a camera from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and a little banner from the Accessory Stickers. For some extra interest and texture, I added a Wood Epoxy Button to the centre of the flower.

I created a second cluster in the top left hand corner of the page, using another fussy cut floral, as well as a Chipboard banner. I again added a Wood Epoxy Button to the centre of the flower. Repeating elements like this in your embellishment clusters helps the layout to feel balanced and cohesive.

To complete the visual triangle, I created one final cluster on the top right hand corner of the photo. I made this one a little smaller and again included a fussy cut floral cluster as well as a Die Cut butterfly. To add interest to this cluster I tucked the flower underneath the edge of the photo and layered the butterfly on top.

For my title I couldn’t go past using the beautiful ‘Sweet Heart’ words from the Foam Title Stickers. I love the way the black title contrasts against the bright colours on the page, and the scripty font is just so pretty! I positioned my title in the white space in the middle of the page. This helps to draw the viewers eye from the cluster in the top left down to the one on the bottom of the photo. Underneath the title I added some typed journaling strips.

To finish the layout off, I added some Die Cut hearts around the clusters on the page. I also added one black foam heart from the Foam Title Stickers to each of the clusters, which again helps to emphasise the visual triangle and draw the viewer’s eye around the page.

Love You | No Limits collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. For today’s layout, I couldn’t resist using the fabulous No Limits collection to document a recent photo of my hubby and sons that I took when we were out to dinner. In fact, it was the navy shirts my sons were wearing that inspired me to choose the gorgeous Eclipse patterned paper as my page background. I just love how dramatic this paper is!

I have a process video for this layout at the bottom of this post – feel free to scroll straight to it, or read on for a brief explanation of my process.

I began by adding a little bit of doodled detail by highlighting the lines of the arches on the paper using a white pencil. (Which I later picked back up to add further details to my page.) I then added some patterned paper layers behind my photo a scrap of the brick patterned Spark left over from a previous project, combined with the wood grain print from the A5 Paper Stack. I also added frayed gauze for texture.

For my page title, I chose love you from the Die Cut Titles pack as my main title which I positioned along the top edge of my photo and popped up with some foam tape. I then used a Chipboard Sticker with the phrase to the moon and back as my sub-title, which I positioned nearby and used as the start of my first embellishment cluster.

I also created two more embellishment clusters, which were positioned along the left and bottom edges of my photo to help create a visual triangle around the focal point of my page (which of course, is my photo).

I used a mix of embellishments in each of my layered clusters including Chipboard Stickers, Die Cut Ephemera, Accessory Stickers, and Wood Epoxy Buttons. I tried to focus on having some common elements such as stars and circles included in each one to help tie them together.

The other main element on my page was the large moon I created using a frame from the Chipboard Sticker sheet, backed with patterned paper. I added some sketchy doodling around the outer edge of it (to give my moon a “glow”) and nearby I placed a small rocket that I had fussy cut from the Accessory Sticker sheet. I also added some doodled “trails” behind my rocket.

I finished off my page with some white ink splatters and a liberal scattering of Puffy Stickers.

Awesome | No Limits Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends today I have another boy themed layout to share using the fab No Limits collection! I have used two cut files on this layout, star background and Awesome 3D title, both can be found in the Silhouette Design Store.

I used the latitude paper under the star cut file so you had a multitude of colours showing through. My white cardstock is cut at 11×11 inches and I used Spark paper for my border.

I used the grey side of the universal paper to cut the outline of the Awesome cut file. I then used nebula paper for the letters which I added with foam tape to give my layout dimension.

I chose two photos of my boy which I sized at 2.5 x 2.5 inches. As they are smaller photos I embellished on the photos to draw your eye to them, tucking elements under and over the photos. I have used a combination of die cut ephemera, wood epoxy buttons puffy stickers and chipboard.

Really the cut files do a lot of the work for you here! This layout is all about colour and dimension.

I love how this turned out and works so well with photos of a teenage boy!

Cousins are the Best | No Limits collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout using the fabulous No Limits collection! For this layout I wanted to document the sweet friendship between my youngest daughter Eleanor and her cousin Charlie, and I knew that this one had to fun and playful to match their personalities! The bright colours, as well as the multitude of stars throughout this collection, were perfect!

I really wanted to use the Big Bang patterned paper as the background for this layout. I think the design of that paper is so fun and I’ve loved seeing the different ways that the design team have been using it! I trimmed about 1cm off each side of the paper and then created a border around the page using various patterned papers from the collection. I also added black machine stitching around the edge of the layout to frame it.

Next I matted my photo using two papers from the A5 Paper Stack. I added a layer of craft foam between the two patterned papers to give the photo some nice dimension. I then adhered the photo just to the left of the large star on the background in order to draw the viewer’s eye to that focal area on the page.

For my title I pulled out my old Cuttlebug manual die cutting machine. Who else still has one of these in their craft room?! I’ve been enjoying creating  titles using metal alphabet dies lately. I love the custom look that you can create with these, plus if you use patterned papers from the same collection, your title matches your page perfectly! On this layout I used two different alphabet dies from Scrapbook.com to cut the letters for the first three words of the title, and then completed it with the word ‘best’ from the Chipboard Stickers. I love the way a mixed font title adds lots of interest to a layout!

Once my photo and title were in place, I was ready to embellish! First I created a cluster on the bottom left hand corner of the photo. I tucked some elements under the edge of the photo, such as the die cut and chipboard frames, and others I added on top, like the ‘Unlimited’ die cut and the wood epoxy button. Layering embellishments together like this gives a layout lots of interest and dimension.

In order to create a visual triangle, I cut another die cut frame in half, and added one piece to the top right hand corner of the page, and the other piece to the bottom left. I then added a cascade of stars flowing from that bottom left hand corner up to the top top right. As all of the elements on the page sit along that diagonal line, it once again helps to draw the viewer’s eye to the important elements on the page rather than wandering. I included stars from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, as well as others that I fussy cut out of the Nebula paper, a few that I die cut out of the A5 Papers, and of course I had to include a scattering of the tiny little stars from the Puffy Sticker pack. I finished the page off with some typed journaling strips.

Epic Adventure | No Limits Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, I’m so happy to be back sharing another layout created with the amazing No Limits collection.  My assignment today was to create a layout with either multiple or shaped photos. I decided to create with multiple photos so that I could feature three of the nested frames from the Chipboard Stickers.  My photos are from last weekend when my 8 year old daughter played her first netball game.

I used the Big Bang paper because I love the large star with all its rays.  I handstitched the outline of both stars in corresponding thread to make it stand out, and to add interest.

All of the three fames are chipboard, and I selected my photos intentionally to feature action photos in the smallest frames that were taken at a distance, and then printed small to fit the frames.  All three frames fit nested within each other.   This one is the largest and is polaroid style. I embellished on top of it with Accessory Stickers.

The next frame isn’t probably meant to be used as its more a separator between the two other frames.  But I though it was perfect, and I don’t like to waste product!  I embellished with a Chipboard banner.  This photo also shows my title which I easily created with two words from the Die Cut Titles, which I popped up on dimensional adhesive.

The smallest frame is also the thickest, and once again was perfect for an action photo. The “Be Yourself” is cut apart phrase from

I embellished with lots of chipboard stars, Wood Epoxy Buttons, Accessory Stickers and Puffy Stickers.  I love how all these elements look scattered amongst the frames, and radiating out from the star.

Rad Times | No Limits | Kellie Moore

Hello CVS fans and welcome back to the blog!

I am so excited to announce that I am now a full time design team member of the Cocoa Vanilla Studio design time and I am so blessed with this opportunity.

For today’s layout I am again playing with ‘No Limits’….I seriously can not get enough of this collection.

I am documenting a story of my son being in isolation recently when he was unwell. I wanted to highlight his headphones so I used a cut file to tell that part of the story and backed them with a bunch of the different patterned papers, both from the 12 x12 papers and the A5 paper stack.

I love the hand icon in the No Limits range so I cut this one from one of the Pocket Cards and added my title using the Die Cut Titles.

I loved cutting apart the ‘Nebula’ paper so I could use ALL.THE.STARS on my pages. I added these around my page to draw the attention to my photo.

I also used some of the Wood Epoxy Stickers and Puffy Stickers…..who doesn’t love these?!

I have been trying to get better at adding journalling to all of my pages….this time I cut down a pocket card to add next to my photo. These cards are so versatile and can be used in so many different ways…don’t be afraid to cut them up!

I hope you have been inspired by my page today. Keep creating and documenting those memories.

You’re the Best | No Limits | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout using the awesome No Limits collection! This time I created a page to document a recent photo of my teenage son at the beach.

 

I decided on using the Universal paper as my background for this layout. I love that the pattern on this paper is subtle, but still adds some extra interest without detracting from the main elements on the page. I trimmed it down to 11 1/2 inches, added a doodled border around the edge, and then matted it on the Eclipse paper. Next I used a punch to cut out a bunch of hexagons for my page. I mostly used papers from the A5 Paper Stack, but I also added in the 12×12 Spark patterned paper for a pop of orange. The A5 papers work perfectly for a project like this as the patterns are on a smaller scale. I arranged the hexagons randomly on my background, trying to keep a good balance of the colours and patterns.

Next I added some layers of patterned paper behind my photo, again choosing to use the A5 Papers. Once I had matted my photo, I adhered it to the page using craft foam. This gives it some nice dimension and helps it to stand out from the hexagons on the background. I also tucked an open die cut circle under the bottom right hand corner of the photo for an extra layer.

For my title I couldn’t go past using the Die Cut Titles. They make it so easy to add the perfect sentiment to a page, and I love how striking they look! I decided on the phrase ‘You’re the Best’, which I also expanded upon in my journaling.

I didn’t want to add a lot of embellishments to this page as it was already quite busy, but I did want to jazz up some of the hexagons. So I decided to add a few of the Wood Epoxy Buttons on top of the hexagons, choosing a tone-on-tone effect. I also added a hand doodled border around three of the hexagons to mirror the one around the outside of the page. I like to add elements in threes like this to create visual triangles on my layouts. This helps to draw the viewer’s eye around the page.

Next I added a sprinkling of Puffy Stickers, a few Chipboard circles, and a couple of little word Stickers around the outside of the hexagons. To finish the page off I added lots of white splatters, which I think gives the effect of sea foam and ties in nicely with my photo.

Total Legend | No Limits collection | Guest designer – Kellie Moore

Hello crafty friends and welcome back to my last post as Guest Designer for Cocoa Vanilla Studio. For today’s layout I decided to showcase lots of the patterned papers from the ‘No Limits’ collection to create a pie chart effect. I love to do this type of design when I want to use lots of different patterns.

When designing a page like this, I like to stick to more of the “B” sides to make sure the patterns aren’t competing with each other and making the page too busy. I added in the Nebula paper to break up the solid papers I have used. This adds a nice contrast. I also added some black stamping to the outer edges of the pie pieces to help them pop off the page. I also added some foam adhesive to some of the pie pieces… I love dimension!

Before gluing my papers down I distressed the edges of the papers and added some distress oxide to the outside of the pie chart in matching colours. This adds some nice pops of colour to my white cardstock.

To embellish the page I think I used a little bit of everything from the ephemera pack, the wood epoxy buttons, the puffy stickers, the accessory stickers and the chipboard. Again, I used the Nebula paper to fussy cut out some stars to add around the page.

Lastly I cut my page down to 11.5″ square and backed it onto the Spark paper…. I think a patterned paper border really finishes off a page made on white cardstock.
