Cool Kid | No Limits collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new boy-themed layout using the awesome No Limits collection! The No Limits collection is a bit of a throwback to one of the older Cocoa Vanilla collections but I love revisiting older collections! I don’t know about you but if I have heaps of a collection left, I like to challenge myself to use it up!

I started out with a white cardstock background as I mostly always do, trimming it down to measure 11′ x 11′ and adhering it to a sheet of black cardstock. I took the Nebula paper and tore rough edges down each side. I then took some of the Latitude paper and tore a piece vertically, I adhered the Nebula paper down and the yellow side of the Latitude paper on the right side. I trimmed the colourful border strip from the Universal paper and adhered this piece to left of the Nebula paper. I bent the edges of the papers using my fingers to add some texture and to add to the grunge/boy theme feel of the page.  On the right of the papers, I added some black twine also for some added texture.

The photo is of my youngest son just after a haircut, he was loving his haircut and I just loved the look on his face so I snapped a few photos of him! I placed the photo in the centre of the papers, I layered one of the 3′ x 4′ pocket cards under the photo for an extra layer. I added some phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker Sheet here to help tell the story of my layout. Although Certified Wild and Beast Mode may not be quite true lol! The One of a Kind chipboard certainly is true though and I placed this piece at the very top of the page.

To the right of my photo, I placed my title which is made up of the Die-cut Titles, I used craft foam underneath these to pop them off the page. I don’t know about you but I love the font of these titles! I added some phrases below the title here and then began to add some of the smaller embellishments. I added lots of star embellishments, including die-cuts, chipboard stars and puffy stars. I also added wood epoxy buttons and some tab stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

I love the dimension, detail and texture that all the different papers and embellishments add to a page. The last thing I did was I stamped the date of when my photo was taken, I sprinkled some black mist and freehand drew a black border around the edge using my journal pen. I love how my boy themed layout turned out and hope you enjoyed reading about how I created it.

Beautiful You | Storyteller Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey there Scrappy Friends! It’s Michelle back here with you today to share my newest creation using the Storyteller Collection. For this layout I wanted to document a couple of photos of Leila (being Leila) hanging out being the superstar that she is at her birthday celebrations last year. Hard to believe that in just 2 more months she will be 12!

I wanted to keep this layout pretty simple, with just a couple of photos, a ‘tidy’ background and my trademark floral clusters. I used the green circular pattern design from the back of the FLY AWAY paper and fussy cut 3 lines out using both scissors and my craft knife for all the inner pieces. Once ready I adhered in the top half of the white cardstock, roughly just above the centre line of the paper. I used double sided foam tape to lift it off the page just slightly.

I can’t take credit for these 2 magical photos, Leila’s aunty managed to capture them while the kids were happy playing in the massive play room while we had dinner. I kept them black and white so not to clash with the colours of the beautiful Storyteller Collection. I used 3×4 cards to back the photos before adhering to the middle of the green circles with foam for an extra pop of dimension.

Clusters created on either side of the photos using both fussy cut florals from the SPRING FLING paper (A5 paper stack size), flag banners from the ephemera pack, word flags from the STORY TIME cut apart paper, wood buttons and black foam hearts from the foam title stickers pack.

Totally obsessed with floral clusters, so much so that I ended up creating clusters similar to ones I’ve made previously. I just cant help it when florals are so so pretty and work so well in certain combinations.

These foam title stickers are the best for creating a good quick title that has impact on the page, they’re a beautiful product to work with too.

I added one last little cluster at the bottom of the layout layered together with another strip of green circles from the FLY AWAY paper, then splattered the entire layout with gold ink to finish it all off.

Here’s one more look at the entire layout, such a quick layout to recreate when you’ve got a couple of photos to document.

Hey There Pumpkin | Sunkissed | Lina Monaco

Good Day Friends,
Lina here on the blog today with an Autumnal layout I created using the fun Sunkissed collection and a photo of my eldest daughter, from this past weekend. I know Sunkissed is a summer themed collection, but I couldn’t resist it’s rich tones of yellow, orange, and pink. I think by looking at my layout, you’d never guess that the collection was geared towards summer. And, that’s the beauty of CVS collections, they’re just so full of fun and colour and that makes them versatile.


I began with a white piece of 12×12 cardstock and created a blended ink background in yellow, coral, and pink. I used water to then add droplets which then I dabbed off to create a reverse splatter as the water removes the ink where it’s placed.
I created the cutfile in Silhouette Studio using two different fonts, layering them and then cutting the background from white cardstock and the rest from papers from the A5 Paper Stack. The Paper stack is perfect for smaller tasks such as cut files or even matting of a photo. I popped up the cut file with dimensional foam and then placed it on my now dry background.


The photo is printed in colour and I feel like the shades and tones in the photo play nicely with the colour scheme I’ve used and do not “get lost” amongst all the colour I have already laid down. I matted my photo with papers form the A5 Paper Stack adding in the same pink, yellow and green.


Time for my favourite part…. the embellishing of the layout. I created a few clusters, one main, large one within the cutfile, a second cluster, mid sized to the left of the photo and lastly a smaller third one, to the right of the photo. I used florals from the Floral Ephemera and a few banners from the Die Cut Ephemera packages. Because I wanted this layout to have more of an autumnal vibe to it, I stayed away from the teal and blue that is included in this collection using soley the shades of orange, yellow, and pink with a pop of green. I also used some gold thread to create a nest for a small Wood Button to sit within. In doing this, I feel like I give the button a home. :P


Lastly, I used some gold ink spray and splattered paint in and around my layout. As always, this finishes off my layout and ties it all together. in my eyes, it similar to adding sprinkles on a cupcake… it’s just that little bit extra that completes your layout.

Together | Storyteller | Kellie Moore

Good morning CVS fans, Kellie back on the blog today to share some more inspiration with you!

For todays project, I decided I wanted to use a cut file to showcase lots of the patterned paper in the gorgeous Storyteller collection. I wanted to record these two pics of me and my baby girl Penny (she is totally my girl in a house full of boys!). Here is my page…

I had this cutfile sitting in my craft room for quite some time, I ‘think’ it could be Paige Evans?! Anyhow I decided I wanted to create a ‘pretty’ page as I do scrap a lot of pics of my boys! How gorgeous are all these papers ?! I started with a blank piece of cardstock, added on some distress oxide and gold splatters.

Cutfiles are a great way to incorporate lots of different patterned paper if that is something you are wanting to achieve. The cutfile came as one piece but I decided to cut it in half and place it on each side of the page so my photos stayed central on the page and it draws your eyes in to the photos.

Next I backed my photos in 2 different patterned papers from the A5 paper stack and got embellishing around my photos. As you can see, I used a mix of just about everything….ephemera, pieces from the Accessory Sticker Sheet and chipboard.

I also thought it would be fun to use some of the wooden buttons to serve as centres for my flowers…

For my title, I used the word ‘Together’ from the foam title stickers, then popped some of the word phrases under it from the Accessory Sticker Sheet. Because the title is black, I also wanted to add some of the hearts from the tile pack to balance out the design.

Happy Heart | Storyteller | Lina Monaco

Happy day friends, Lina, here today on the blog to share this layout I created with the ever so versatile, Storyteller collection. I documented a photo of my happy girl from this summer in a field of glorious yellow flowers. I just thought the background of the photo played so nicely with the yellow in this collection and so I played on that idea.

I began with a white piece of cardstock; I use a 120 lbs cardstock but you can use whatever you have on hand. I used a Distress Ink in yellow and a blending tool to add some colour to the top right hand corner and then a larger patch on the bottom left since that’s where my photo is going and I wanted to be able to still see yellow ink peaking through. I then matted the white cardstock onto the lovely background paper you see with all the hearts entitled, “Oh my Heart”.

Next, I matted my photo with pieces of card from the A5 Paper Stack with some papers that matched nicely. I popped my photo up with some dimensional foam for height. Following that, I added pieces from both the Die Cut Ephemera and the Floral Ephemera packets. I created a larger cluster of beautiful florals on the right side of my photo and created a nesting spot for my title.


My title is created with the Foam Title Stickers and reads “Happy Heart”, which perfectly describes my lovely girl. The black colour of the foam was perfect to anchor down my layout. On the left side of my photo, I added some gold thread purposely made to look messy. My photo is also adorned with a phrase from the Accessory Stickers sheet that reads, “Got the Shot”. The phrase works wonderfully with the photo and her peace sign holding pose. :)


In the top right hand corner of my layout where I had originally added yellow ink with the blending tool, I created an additional smaller cluster of embellishments to drawn the eye upwards and lighten up the heavy, bottom positioning of my layout. I added a cut label, and a lovely blue floral piece. I also took that opportunity to add a nest of gold thread and adhere a Wood Button that features a cute little yellow butterfly.
Lastly, I added some Puffy Stickers and some gold ink spray to finish of my layout and add that last bit of my style. This layout came together super easily, mainly because you just can’t create something hideous with the collection. It’s just such a lovely and happy collection and I see myself using every last piece of it.

This Story | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, Its Melissa here and I’m back today to share a layout that I created with the beautiful Storyteller collection for our current Tell a Story theme!  If you’ve followed my work for a while you’ll know that the story behind the photo is just as important to me as the photo!  So for this layout I carefully selected a photo that had a big story I wanted to tell.  The photo is of Ava at her first Pediatrician’s appointment when we first moved a year ago.

I had a lot to write for my journaling on this layout.  So I went into my stash to find lined paper to ensure that I wrote straight! My background paper is Spring Fling and if you watch my video below you’ll see that this isn’t the paper I started with.  I added white acrylic paint splatters to make it more painterly.

I added some distress oxide ink using the packaging technique to provide some distress and interest onto the lined paper.  I love how it looks against the mixed media look of the blue background paper.

I backed my sweet photo of Ava with three papers from the A5 Paper Stack.  I distressed all of the edges and went with an lining them up unevenly.  I embellished with a cute banner from the Die Cut Ephemera, and I created my title with two of the Chipboard Stickers.

Other embellishments I used are Chipboard Stickers, Accessory Stickers and Wood Buttons.  I added twine from my stash and machine stitching helped adhere the lined paper and added texture.

I adore the sweet camera ephemera pieces, and was thrilled to get on onto this layout.

Heart Happy | Storyteller Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle back here with a new layout share featuring the beautiful Storyteller Collection. I went with a grid style layout, one that I’ve shared as part of a yearly documenting project I started a few years back for Leila.

I really enjoy re-creating this layout every year with the updated list of all the things Leila is loving, and seeing which photo and paper collection fits the feel of her current personality. Take the lack of pink from the past couple of years due to Leila’s hatred of the colour for a patch of time. Thankfully it’s making a comeback and is equally represented within the collection used this year.

Here’s a look back at all the older layouts, only 6 years of favourites documented so far, all with Cocoa Vanilla Studio Collections. I think I need to find the lists I made in years prior so that I can make a layout for all the years I missed prior to this.

I used all the same design elements on this layout as I have in the past, just switching up the direction that I placed the embellishments.

I’ve used squares of pattern paper from both the 12×12 and A5 paper stack designs and machine stitched for some added texture to create the base for the background then layered the list and photo over the top.

A photo taken from a recent day trip when Leila ‘met’ some life size versions of Lego Mario and Luigi. She’s still an avid lover of all things Luigi, even if he has been relegated to 2nd in line after all her beloved baby dolls. He does still come everywhere with her.

I added fussy cut florals from both sizes of the Spring Fling paper into the white spaces diagonally top and bottom of the layout.

There’s also a couple of ephemera pieces in both clusters, and a mix of different adhesives to achieve different heights of dimension.

I created the title of the layout at the top of the list using the Foam Title Stickers from the collection, along with handwritten text, then embellished with a wood button, ephemera and fussy cut florals. The list has been adhered to the woodgrain paper to create a clipboard of sorts.

Here’s a closer look at all Leila’s current favourites, there’s probably way more I could have added now that I look back on it.

In 3 of the 4 solid colour squares, I added strips of words from the 12×12 cut apart sheet Story Time, plus co-ordinating puffy stickers

Lastly I added the usual gold splatters a few extra puffy stickers within the floral clusters and then called it done.

So Sweet | Storyteller | Kellie Moore

Welcome back to the blog Cocoa Vanilla fans!

Today I am sharing my second page using the new ‘Storyteller’ collection and these colours are my jam! I find them so easy to use and the whole collection can be used to cover so many different subjects…the choices are endless!

For my page today I started with wanting to make a statement background that featured many of the patterned papers, so out came the A5 paper stack. I chose a few different patterns and decided that I really wanted to bring in more of the red so I pulled a piece of red cardstock from my stash to add into the mix and went crazy cutting out 1 inch squares.

I decided to make a big star with the squares so I used a piece of cardstock to cut a star then stuck down all of the squares onto the star, trimming off all of the excess paper. I then decided to add some more texture to my page by adding some hand stitching to some of the squares…love me some texture!

Next I wanted to add some paper layers behind my photo so I HAD to use the woodgrain paper that matches so well with the hat my little boy is wearing in the photo….and I also added a paper doily to give some separation between my star and my photo.

Now that the base of my page was done, it was time to get some embellishments down, and of course I needed some of the gorgeous florals, so I used a mix of the florals from the floral ephemera pack and some that I had cut out from the ‘Spring Fling’ paper. I positioned them to the top left and bottom right of my page to draw the eye down through my photo.

Next, to complete these clusters, I added some of the butterflies from the ephemera pack and some of the gorgeous ‘wooden buttons’ ….LOVE!

Now, I just need to add my title so the words ‘So Sweet’ from the foam title stickers were just too perfect not to use… so I placed it below my picture and my page was complete!

I hope I bought you some inspiration today, and you are having as much fun with Storyteller as I am.

You Make Me Smile | Storyteller | Lina Monaco

Hello wonderful, scrappy friends!
Lina, here today on the blog sharing my very first layout with the brand spanking new, Storyteller collection. I know you’ve all heard me rave about how much I love certain collections, but this one, this one is my most favourite! It’s perfect! From it’s gender neutral colour palette, to the florals and ephemera…. it’s just a well rounded collection and I’m happy to have gotten my chance to play with it!


The photo I documented is of my youngest little girl, peace sign and big smile. I could not resist documenting this photo since all it’s colours coordinated perfectly with the collection. I matted the photo with the A5 Paper stack and popped it up on many layers of dimensional foam so that it sat on top of the rainbow die cut. The rainbow die cut is an image I found online, traced with my Silhouette Cameo and paper pieced with papers from the collection. I also cut stars, in multiple sizes to tuck into my layout as layering pieces. All of these elements sit on top of regular white cardstock that I matted with the 12×12, Little Love paper. It’s so sweet with it’s little colourful heart pattern with a navy blue background. It also features a yellow star pattern on the reverse that caught my eye.


The title is comprised of words from the Foam Title Stickers. And how fitting since this babe’s smile make me smile from ear to ear.
I also used some gold thread to create a little home for the Wood Button to sit on. This one is a darling little butterfly with a blue background. To finish off this bottom right corner of the layout, I added some phrases from the Accessory Stickers sheet and this conveys my feelings and emotions on my layout since I do not journal on my layouts.


For more embellishing, I used clusters in the top right corner of my photo and again at the bottom left. This along with my title creates a visual triangle that works in layouts and pleases the eye. I used some stars and pieces from both the Floral and Die Cut Ephemera packets. The ephemera in this collection is stunning and so sentimental as it pertains to telling a story and creating memories. I am just smitten by the collection itself… if you hadn’t noticed

Graduation | Storyteller Collection | Danni Visser

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio fans! Danni here with my very first layout using the incredible new Storyteller collection! We have been completely spoiled for choice with this amazing collection, so it was difficult for me to decide where to begin. Then I remembered that I have been biding my time to scrap my university graduation pics, waiting for just the right collection to come along…and here we are!

The yellows and blues in this collection match my dress and hood in this photo perfectly. I was so inspired by all the gorgeous colours, I decided to pull out my vast collection of embroidery threads and begin stitching. I selected several of the flowers and leaves from the floral ephemera and added a variety of different stitches and knots to add lots of texture.

I had trouble choosing a title for this page because this was such a huge and important moment in my life, so I ended up going with a card from the 3×4 pocket cards instead of a traditional title. The longer sentiment on it really sums up the importance and gravity of this special moment better than a short title. I also love how the yellow ties in with the colour of my dress. I gently distressed the edges and outlined the card with a hand drawn border.

Next I popped my photo up on dimensional foam and layered it with the 3×4 card. Before I added my stitched florals to the page, I wanted to jazz up the white background. I added a border using Spring Fling 12×12 patterned paper, then added some delicate watercolour splatters in the same colours as the florals. I included some pearlescent watercolour splatters to add some shine.

Once the background was done, it was simply a matter of adding my florals around my photo and title card, creating three main clusters. I tucked some underneath the photo and overlaid others, creating a sense of dimension and realism on the page. Using the A5 paper stack, I fussy cut three tiny butterflies from the butterfly patterned paper and added one of these to each cluster, bending the wings up to create a feeling of movement. I also added a tiny wood button to each cluster, followed by two small puffy sticker hearts in varying colours.

I love how this layout turned out and I hope you did too. I have so many wonderful ideas for this collection!
