Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here and today I am sharing my latest layout with you. For this Throwback Thursday I was inspired by a previous layout I created and also the ‘Sunkissed’ collection. A throwback in two ways, how fun!

Here is the layout that I created:

The subject of this layout are my two kiddies taken in the last couple of months following a release of a lockdown here in regional Victoria. We took advantage of having a day where we could travel a short distance and went to a coastal town about an hour or so from home. Of course the kids were wanting to sample the local ice cream shop! Yum!

I was really inspired by the fringe layers that I created on a layout a couple of years ago and wanted to have a go featuring them on a layout again.

The fringe look can be created using simple fine tip scissors or you can use herb scissors like I have to create a nice even fringe.

To embellish the page I have used a combination of the mainly the ephemera pieces, floral ephemera pieces, puffy stickers and the accessory stickers.

I wish I had a gazillion packs of these florals. Aren’t they totally stunning! So bright and perfect for this summer themed layout. I love to adhere these in a variety of dimensions by using different foam adhesives.

I was excited to have the perfect use for the ice cream ephemera piece!

For the title of the page wanted something that would stand out enough against the fringe layers on the page which as quite dominating. The gold glitter sticker titles are so gorgeous and I decided these would work on this layout.

Of course I had to frame my layout on a patterned paper. I love how it provides a finished look to a page.

Living the Dream | Throwback Thursday | Rachel Lowe

Hello crafty friends, today is throwback Thursday! I knew I wanted to use this gorgeous paint brush cut file from Confessions of a Paper Addict and my layout flowed from there. I dug deep into my CVS stash and realised that although I do not have much of collections left I had enough using a large cut file.

I used a wood grain paper to cut the handles of the brushes and to add visual interest I used a rose gold glitter paper which contrasted wonderfully against the black. Instead of using the cut file paint brush strokes I used the clear stickers paint strokes from various older collections. I love how they turned out!

I then embellished each paint brush by adding floral clusters tucked behind the wood part of the paint brush. I added butterfly flairs, and clear stickers in a way they look like they are flying into and away on my page.

I next added my photo with foam tape which is a 3.5 x 3.5 inches.I added it off centre to the middle paintbrush. To frame may photo I found two large die cut butterflies at tucked under my photo each side. I found some black phrase sentiments and chose a relevant one to my theme and added directly under my photo.

I found a die cut title and added with foam tape, just above it a added another phrase die cut as my sub title and to finish off I added a clear sticker camera.

Since I had every clear sticker sheet out that I owned I went back and added some more clear stickers, the mixed media strokes. I found another flair with Life is Good which was in a orange tone so blended perfectly with the colours of my layout.

I do love how this turned out and enjoyed the challenge of using my stash and older CVS collections/embellishments. Clear stickers have always been a favourite embellishment for me and they really added beautiful colour and texture to my layout.

Beautiful You | Wild At Heart collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I have a new layout for our regular Throwback Thursday feature using the gorgeous Wild At Heart collection!

I chose the gorgeous pink and orange ombre paper as my background paper and decided to cut out a floral cut file from CUT to YOU from white cardstock. I then took the dark floral paper from the Wild At Heart collection and backed the flowers in the cut file. I chose one of the teal journaling cards to back the leaves with, I love how this turned out!

Once I finished backing the cut file, I added craft foam underneath and adhered it in the centre of the ombre background paper. I love the shadows and dimension this gives my layout. I adhered the photo of my darling niece right above the floral cut file overlapping it a little. Next is the fun part of embellishing! On the right of the photo I adhered the Hello flair button and the small purple floral die-cut piece. I also tucked in under the cut file a larger floral on the right too.

Below the photo I adhered a phrase die-cut, a pink phrase chipboard piece, the bow die-cut and an accessory word sticker. On the left there is a wood veneer heart, a die-cut heart, a tag and another larger floral tucked in under the cut file. At the top of the photo I added some more accessory stickers. Lastly I adhered a few of the die-cut butterflies around the page.

I so love how my layout turned out using the Wild At Heart collection…I hope you are inspired to get your Wild At Heart collection out and create with it?!

So Happy | Throwback Thursday – Bohemian Dreams | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone. Happy Thursday! It’s Throwback Thursday here on the Cocoa Vanilla blog. I decided to throw it all the way back to ‘Bohemian Dreams’ one of my fave collections ever. Purple is one of my fave colours lately so this collection was certainly calling my name.

Here is the layout that I created:

This subject of this layout is myself and my bridesmaids at my Wedding. The image was taken by our photographer and one I just adore. The photo being black and white allowed me to bring in a lot of colours into the designing of the page. Normally I love to feature cut files on my layout but for this layout I wanted to focus more heavily on the papers and patterns within the collection.

I decided to make the ‘Beautiful Mess’ patterned paper a feature of this layout by cutting the individual 4×6″ and 3×4″ pieces. I layered these pieces below my matted photo in a somewhat vertical design, trying to distribute colours as best as I could. These were adhered together to form one piece and then adhered to my layout with a foam adhesive.

To the right of the photo I added a large photo cluster comprising of many pieces of ephemera and other embellishments. The title ‘so happy’ was also used from one of the accessory stickers.To achieve dimension on the clusters – elements are adhered to the page in varying depths using a combination of glue dots, double sided tape and foam adhesives.

 

Instead of journaling on this page I used the tiny word sticker sentiments from the accessory sticker sheet. These were able to tell my story, just in fewer words.

I think my favourite part of this collection, well actually most CVS collections are the florals. I have to hold myself back from adding more when I am embellishing.

 

One of my favourite staples in the ephemera packs is the small file tabs. They are one piece that I will add to most pages – usually to the top left corner of my photos.

 

As you can see from the image below the layout features a lot of dimension, particularly from the embellishments.

Epic School Photo | Throwback Thursday | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share for “Throwback Thursday“, our regular fortnightly throwback to beloved Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections from the past. This week I’m sharing a super fun layout using the awesome Boys Rule collection which is perfect for documenting all kinds of moments, especially ones that don’t necessarily need all the pretty florals that some of the more feminine collections contain.

This collection was perfect for Leilas School photos from last year. Usually her photos are taken in bright red polo shirts, however last years were much later in the year thanks to Covid, so that meant jumpers on and an easier combination of colours to coordinate.

Inspired by the last creation I made using the strips of pattern paper in rainbow order, but switched up slightly to create a different look. I’ve layered strips randomly in blue, green white & gray with the occasional pop of wood grain along both sides of the layout. I covered most of the left side with the strips, and only a tiny sliver on the right. Both sides are sewn through using machine stitching. Strips come from both 12×12 and 6×8 papers.

Loving this photo of our sweet girl with her wild crazy hair inherited from her mumma. I backed the photo using a gray concrete pattern paper ‘Good Times’ and the star journaling card plus crown on her head from the ‘Boy Stuff’ cut apart paper.

I made one massive title using older white alphas (fingers crossed they make a comeback one day) plus stickers from the accessory sticker sheet, #epic word and camera from the ‘Boy Stuff’ cut apart paper and a banner from the ephemera pack.

Blues and greens are by far my most favourite colours to create with, they have such a calming vibe


As the layout was already quite colour heavy I scattered a few chipboard star/cross embellishments above the photo rather than creating one large cluster. I wanted the photo to stand out more than an overpowering cluster like I normally create.


I also added the same elements at the bottom of the layout too, plus a bunch of Ink splatters.

Beautiful Moments | Midnight collection | Kylie Kingham.

Hello everyone! It’s Kylie back with you today for another ‘Throwback Thursday’ feature on the blog. I love to go back through my paper stash and choose a past collection to create with and for todays layout I selected the forever beautiful ‘MIDNIGHT’ collection. I’ve always loved the navy and pink colour combinations to this range and swoon over the mason jar and floral die cuts. So much beauty!

I opted for a darker toned background with the BLOOM & GROW paper and have layered pieces of SOPHISTICATED and ALL THE THINGS papers to the top third of my page. The edges have all been distressed a little to feature a nice amount of texture.

The best part about rummaging around through your craft supplies, like I was when I found my ‘MIDNIGHT’ stash, is all the other cool stuff you find that you may of forgotten about….(who me??) Let’s chat about paper doilies. I love them. I love the interest they can add to a project and there are so many ways you can incorporate them into a project. I found some smaller sized doilies and have wrapped each side of my photo to show a small lacey edge overlapping. It provided a fab backdrop for the floral die cuts I layered over the top.

For balance, I also added another doily with more die cuts to the lower left corner of my page.

To complete my page I added a lovely oversized title from the chipboard die cut pack to below my photo. It really seemed to tie in the theme of my photo and page design nicely! I used some foam adhesive squares to raise the title a little and make it seem as though it was ‘floating’ above my page.

Naughty or Nice | Merry & Bright collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here today to share some Throwback Thursday inspiration with you. Throwback Thursday is the feature where our design team members take an older collection and create something new with it. For my project I decided to pull out a collection that wasn’t too far back, but it was one that I didn’t get the chance to create a lot of projects with – ‘Merry and Bright’. Now for those who know me, you might be falling over in shock, because I am not known as a big fan of scrapping Christmas layouts, but I had this hilarious photo of my boys with Santa from 2019 that I just had to document.

For this layout, I decided to create a mixed media page, so I started with white cardstock, acrylic paint and some Distress Oxides. I first used a wide paint brush to brush the diluted green Distress Oxide across the page, then used a rubber brayer to apply pink paint to the lower half of the page. Next, I added some stencilling using a star stencil, sponge dauber and a coral coloured oxide; then topped my background off with some stamping using a star background stamp and grey ink.

After the background was complete I mounted it onto the wood grain print of the Season’s Greetings paper, then started building the papery layers on my page. I cut and tore pieces of the Star Bright and Countdown papers, as well as the diagonal pink/red stripe paper from the A5 Paper Stack. I used my fingernail to ruffle up the torn edges to add extra texture.

I layered my paper pieces together, adding a grey doily from my stash and some frayed gauze for even more texture, and then secured the stack together with staples before adding my photo on top.

To embellish my page I focused on creating 3 main clusters. The first was in the top left hand corner of my photo, where I had a spot on the photo that had to be covered up anyway. I did this by using a couple of stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet and just sticking them directly onto the photo. This cluster also featured a pair of sweet little houses and flower from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and one of the Puffy Gold Stars.

The second cluster was along the bottom edge of my photo and I again used die cuts and a gold star, plus some phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

The third cluster to the right of my photo was where I included my journalling, which I typed onto one of the coordinating Pocket Cards. I also added a small die cut sprig of holly; another gold star and a handmade arrow embellishment.

I finished my layout off with some gold adhesive pearls and some splatters of gold mist.

Throwback Thursday | Paint your Dreams | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends, today is all about stash busting, yes its throwback Thursday. I recently invested some time in sorting out my older CVS collections, using three pizza boxes, one for 12×12 papers, one for paper scraps and the last one for embellishments. I have done this because I do not have enough left of a collection to create but adding them all together means I can be creative and mix and match collections.

Here is my throwback Thursday layout featuring a photo of my daughter. I went for an uplifting/inspirational layout for her. As you can see I have used a mix of collections here but they still coordinate so well together.  I used two cut files from the Silhouette design store, paint palette and title ‘paint your dreams’.

I used the script writing inspirational  paper as my base. I cut a 10×10 inch white cardstock strip and centred this on my base page. I next cut the paint palette and brush as this was the feature of my page. I found a wood grain paper in my CVS 12×12 paper box, once cut I added machine stitching to the edge. I backed it with a marble paper and to add a little something extra I added glitter to the paint blotches. I then added with foam tape off centre onto the white cardstock.

I then added my paint brush and added some small butterfly die cuts under the palette. I found a gorgeous die cut doily and used this to mat my photo. I used some phrase sentiments under my photo and finished off with a camera die cut.I added my title, I used some silver glitter paper for one word to stop it from looking too flat visually. I also added a light splash of black paint to add some contrast.

To finish off my page I added some beautiful die cut flowers and enamel dots. I added some more light splatters of black paint.

Most of these papers and embellishments are no longer in the store but you can recreate this layout with what you have in your CVS stash and don’t forget CVS have digital bundles of older collections too, just print and use.

Totally Awesome Dudes | Legendary and Boys Rule collections | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue here today to share my latest design team project with you. Do you know what day it is today? It’s Throwback Thursday! And that means I am sharing a brand new layout using up some of my older Cocoa Vanilla stash. The purpose of this regular feature is to help inspire everyone to continue using up what they already have (so we can make room for all the new pretties, like the ‘Sunkissed’ collection).

For today’s project I decided to create a boy-themed layout, as I get lots of requests for boy pages, so I dug into my stash of both the ‘Legendary’ and ‘Boys Rule’ collections for an epic mash-up of the two. I love the way they combined for this layout, and I hope you do too!

I started my layout with the mandala-style print of the Explorer paper from the ‘Legendary’ collection as my page base. I then added a small amount of dark grey acrylic paint using a wide brush to help define the focal area of my page. My aim for this layout was to stick with a largely monochromatic palette of black / white / grey, with a pop of one colour, and I chose yellow. I love this colour combination for boys, as it’s a great change away from the traditional blues & greens that are often used for masculine pages.

I added a large piece of the Wild One patterned paper with the gorgeous yellow print in the centre of my page, which provided me with the big pop of colour I was looking for. I used a torn edge to add texture to the page and tucked a smaller piece of the Straight & Narrow striped paper from ‘Boys Rule’ under it. I double matted my photo using the Happy Go Lucky and Messed Up papers (also from ‘Boys Rule’) and added some scrap cardboard under it to pop it up from the page.

My title was the next element I tackled, as I knew I wanted it to fill the space beside my photo. I used a combination of the ‘Boys Rule’ Clear Stickers and ‘Legendary’ Die Cut Titles – because I love a good mixed font title!

For my embellishments, I created three clusters to form a visual triangle. The main cluster was at the bottom right corner of my photo, and consisted of a handmade star embellishment which I topped with one of the ‘Boys Rule’ Flair Buttons. I also added a die cut banner along the bottom edge of my photo and some gold twisted wire which I stapled to the page.

For my remaining embellishments I used a mix of ‘Legendary’ Die Cut Ephemera pieces; a few ‘Boys Rule’ Accessory Stickers and some of the ‘Legendary’ Enamel Dots. Then I finished off my page with some black ink splatters.

Leila’s EPIC Adventure | Throwback Thursday – Legendary Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello and Happy Christmas Eve to you all! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share for “Throwback Thursday, our regular fortnightly throwback to beloved Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections from the past. This week I’m sharing a super fun layout using the awesome Legendary Collection which is perfect for documenting all kinds of funny moments, especially funny photo’s of my sweet Leila who just recently turned 10!

The layout was based on a fun title idea to use with a funny photo of Leila on a toddle ride at a local shopping centre. She’s way too big to fit in the actual seat so she was perched on top for her Epic Adventure to ‘Toy Land’.

I started the layout by making the title then worked around that to create the whole layout. I’ve used the woodgrain paper ‘Outdoors Type‘ as the backing and layered in a couple of other pattern papers ‘Offbeat‘, ‘Epic Tales‘ and ‘Wild one‘ to make the photo stack pop.

There’s some hidden journalling tucked into the top of the photo too, using a tag from the Ephemera Pack and shared up close further down this post.

I like creating titles with mixed fonts and this collection has plenty. I’ve fussy cut the EPIC letters found on the cut apart paper ‘Epic Tales‘ to give them a more 3D look when adhered to the layout with foam tape. Under this I’ve added a Die Cut Title word plus another strip piece from the cut apart paper. The alphabet stickers I used for Leila’s name are an older CVS product thats currently not available. To the right of the title I added the hot air balloon from the Ephemera Pack.

I added the giant stars from the Ephemera Pack to the top and bottom of the layout on a diagonal across from each other, then layered more Ephemera pieces and Accessory Stickers to create open clusters. I certainly love a cluster of stars, almost as much as I love a cluster of florals!

I used a range of adhesives to keep some pieces flat and give some slight dimension. More often than not I use my tiny attacher, foam tape and tiny glue dots. Oh and sometimes I sneak in a little machine stitching

To finish the layout I’ve splattered gold ink everywhere, added a sprinkling of Enamel Dots within the clusters and added the journalling to the hidden tag. It certainly was hilarious watching her try to squeeze into the seat that day!
