Summer Fun | Happy Days collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends! Today I have a fun summer themed layout to share. I chose a 8.5 x 11 inch layout as this is the size I always use for my travel layouts. I have of course used the gorgeous Happy Days collection.

I found this summer fun cut file in the Silhouette Design store and cut it to fit my 8.5 x 11 inch layout. I used a turquoise card stock. I used the Feel Good paper, yellow cheque side cutting at 8.5 inches and tearing at 1.5 inches. Before adhering to the top of my page a added a tiny strip of Lush Blooms paper to add a contrast. I next added two die cut ephemera butterflies with foam tape to add dimension and finished off adding a die cut sun which I added two blush pink puffy stickers for the cheeks.

 

I adhered the cut file with a small amount of wet glue. I used the A5 paper stack to create my layered photo frame. My photo is 3.5×3.5 inches.  I set about making this my focal point. To the right I created a floral cluster using the floral ephemera. At the top of my photo I created another embellishment cluster adding die cut strawberries, tab and word sentiment.

To the left of my photo I added a die cut camera with foam tape tucking it slightly under my photo. Tucking elements under and over photos prevents your layout from appearing ‘flat’. I added journalling using the accessory sticker sheet, phrase sentiments on my photo and under it.

 

 

I used some yellow paint and made random splatters over my page (protecting my photo of course!) I added a journalling block to the bottom right of my page and will add details of photo later.

This design could be used for so many different themed layouts! I hope my layout has inspired you in some way and if you have only ever tried a 12×12 inch layout I encourage you to try a different size.

Fun + Sun | Sunkissed collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new Summer themed layout featuring the gorgeous Sunkissed collection.

Who doesn’t love a cute kid in an even cuter swimming costume right? This photo is of my youngest niece and I just love it! The Sunkissed collection was the perfect collection to document this photo.

I decided on the ‘B’ side of the Bright Side paper for my background, trimmed it down and adhered it to a plain sheet of white cardstock. I then chose a title cut file from CUT to YOU, cut that out from white cardstock and then backed it with the Summer Lights patterned paper. Once the cut file title was backed, I added craft foam to the underside and and then adhered it to the top of the page, I did leave the S and U in the word sun with adhesive though as I knew I wanted to tuck in the sun behind the letters. To do this, I fussy cut out the sun from the Fun in the Sun patterned paper, I tucked it behind the letters and then bent up the edges to add some texture to my page.

On top of the title, I took some of the pretty florals from the Floral Ephemera Pack and adhered them in their corresponding colours, so the pink one is layered on top of the pink section in the patterned paper and the yellow flower is on the yellow paper. I cut out another of the journal cards from the Fun in the Sun patterned paper tucking it in behind the photo. I love how this journal card added some colour against the dark background and bought out the colours in the photo a little more. I adhered the photo on top using craft foam to add some dimension nd create some depth and shadows on my page. I also cut out the phrase from the same paper that says ‘Love This’ and layered it over the journal card. I also took one of the gorgeous gold glitter foam titles and placed it above the ‘Love This’ phrase.

On the right hand side of the photo, I took that super cute swimsuit die-cut, added craft foam underneath and adhered it right next to the photo. I took some floral and leaf pieces from the floral ephemera pack and tucked a few in here and there to add some extra interest to the page. I also took some of the phrase stickers from the Accessory sticker sheet and placed these around the page to help tell the story. I added a few of the gorgeous puffy hearts and lastly stamped the date stamp and sprinkled some drops of white mist around.

Hello Sunshine | Sunkissed collection | Tarrah McLean

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new Summer themed layout featuring the gorgeous Sunkissed collection! I have had this awesome photo of my Mum in the pool printed for ages and I took it especially to use with this collection! I am finally getting around to documenting it!

Free Cocoa Vanilla Summer cut files

I started by choosing some background patterned papers – I chose the sunset ombre paper for my main background and trimmed down the ‘B’ side of the Sunny Days paper. I adhered this piece to the centre of the sunset ombre paper and bent up the edges to create some texture. Next I chose one of the really colourful 3′ x 4′ cards from the journaling cards pack to add lots of colour and layered it under my photo. I placed my photo and arranged them it how I liked it, making sure to leave enough room for the cut file title at the bottom.

Next I cut out the Best Ever card from the Fun in the Sun paper (again I love the different colours in it) and placed it to the left of my photo. From plain white cardstock, I cut out the ‘Hello Sunshine’ title from the Free Summer cut files. I added foam tape underneath the cut file once it was cut out and adhered it to the bottom half of the Sunny Days paper. I overlapped some of the cut file on the photo and also on the Best Ever card. I love the shadows that are created on the page by adding foam tape under the cut file title.

Tip: If you want to break up the plain look of a cut file without getting messy with paint, add some small repetitive embellishments like the cute heart puffy stickers to add some small detail and colour without taking away from the cut file itself.

I couldnt go past adding some gorgeous florals from the Floral Ephemera pack I mean look at all those gorgeous colours! I tucked some into both the left and the right of the cut file title. I further embellished my page with clear stickers, more ephemera, accessory stickers, wood epoxy buttons and puffy stickers. Lastly I sprinkled some white mist on my layout and stamped the date stamp.

HELLO SUNSHINE | ENDLESS SUMMER | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative friends,

Gwen back on the blog today with a stash busting share for you featuring the ‘Endless Summer‘ collection.  Whilst this collection is from a while ago now (2016), I still really love the soft tones in it and the sweet icons, they are perfect for documenting beach photos; these taken of my daughter many years ago.  I have quite a few embellishments for this line in my stash so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some of those used up as well!

The idea for the page was to create a landscape of sorts, with my photos sitting towards the bottom of the page and the top portion of the page being a pretty summer sky.  I’ve used the ‘Blue Skies’ pattern paper for my background and then created a frame with the ‘Sun Bleached’ ombre pattern paper.  I’ve used this paper to create photo mats for my photos as well.

For a fun element to add to my sky background, I’ve cut two paper kites using a cut file from CUT to YOU.  I’ve backed these in the ‘Sun Bleached’ pattern paper as well as the ‘Aloha’ pattern paper, a fun tropical floral print.  I’ve added some stitching detail to really make them a feature of the design.

My photos also have a stitched border added for extra detail and they run along the bottom of the edge of the layout.  I wanted them to feel grounded against my background.

With the photo and large cut file elements in place, now I get to audition the embellishments in the collection.  I noticed at this point that I had a lot of little sentiments to work with from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera’ pack as well as the ‘Accessory Stickers’.  I even had some that had been fussy cut from the ‘This and  That’ pattern paper.  I also had some of the ‘Flair Buttons’ in my stash and am happy to have included two on this layout.

Thinking about the way the eye will flow from the top of the page down to my photos and across to the left, I have nestled in elements along the left hand edge of my paper kites.  I’ve also added a longer sentiment at the bottom of the page to balance things out and help that bottom section feel more grounded.  Here you can see how the cloud icons in the background pattern paper are matched to the flair button.  I love this layered look.

I’ve then added in a floral sticker from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ (which I cut in half) as well as some other round elements to soften the look of the page and add more interest.  The different sized round elements really add to the dimension of the page as well.  Lastly, I’ve added in two of the die cut butterflies from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ as well as a couple of ‘Enamel Shapes’ as a last finishing detail.

Summer Fun | Endless Summer collection | Tarrah McLean

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a Summer themed scrapbook layout using one of the older Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections called Endless Summer. I chose this collection because of the gorgeous teal colour of the water in my photo, a selfie of myself kayaking earlier this year. The teal in the Endless Summer collection was a perfect match! Don’t you love it when that happens?!

I chose my background patterned paper first – opting for the pretty tropical floral outline paper. I did trim it down so that I could add a double mat of cardstock behind the patterned paper. I pulled out a pink and a teal cardstock to mat the page with. I added the wood grain die-cut frame from the Ephemera pack over my photo and stapled an arrow die-cut to the top right of the frame, I then adhered it using craft foam in the centre of my page. I like the look of various layers of dimension on my layouts so I added foam tapes and regular tape under the floral die-cuts and tucked these into both sides of my photo. I also added some leaves here and bent the edges up on both the florals and the leaves.

On the right of the photo I included the super cute flamingo die-cut and the Summer Holiday ticket from the ephemera pack. I also tucked one of the flair buttons and adhered a wood veneer arrow. Below my photo I adhered the Memories Are Made of This die-cut piece on top of the frame, I also tucked in the banner die-cut underneath the photo. My title is made up of the letters that spelt ‘Summer’ and the ‘Fun’ word in the ephemera pack. I also added the cute anchor wood veneer piece to the bottom left corner of the photo. Near the anchor I placed a wood epoxy bead and also placed another wood veneer piece across the Summer title.   

To the left of my photo I added the round ‘Smile’ die-cut piece and a heart die-cut. Above the photo I added some cloud die-cuts with craft foam and layered the ‘Summer Days’ banner die-cut across the clouds. I also scattered some of the gorgeous enamel shapes in the hearts around the page. Lastly I stamped the date stamp and checked that everything was adhered down sufficiently.

Summer Love | Sunkissed | Rachel Lowe

Hey crafty friends, it maybe cold and gloomy outside but it is summer in my craft room! I love the colours of Sunkissed collection so much and so before These Days arrived (which I can’t wait for) I am happily creating away remembering summer!

The folded heart (rosette heart) is a cut file from the Silhouette Design store. I oversized mine as I wanted it to be the feature on my layout. I used the Growing Wild paper to create the hear. I used the left over paper strip (using the floral side) of the Growing Wild paper, tearing at the top and bottom of the strip. Before adhering my white cardstock I tore another paper strip from the Summer Lights paper using the pink part of the ombre paper and tucking it under my floral strip. Finally to soften I add a 7x 5 inch strip of Vellum paper tearing at the bottom only.

I next added my folded heart, I used a wet glue to ensure it wasn’t going to move or lift. I have used a 4×4 inch square photo which I matted onto a square of Feelin Fine  paper. 

I have created embellishment clusters in a triangle configuration with my photo at the centre. This is important to do when you are using ‘busy’ patterns and ‘bright’ colours. I added a small cluster of flowers (using the Floral Ephemera pack), adding some gold thread and finishing off with one of the gorgeous Wood Epoxy Buttons.

Under this embellishment cluster I added another, using the fruits from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and finishing off again using another, but smaller wood epoxy button.

I created a large and cascading cluster of the gorgeous tropical flowers from the photo flowing onto the vellum and white cardstock. Again I added gold thread under the outer flowers. To create dimension some were added over others with foam tape. I also added clear NUVO jewel drops on some of the centres and leaves. I added two phrase sentiments from the die cut ephemera pack.

I used one of the words from the Glitter Foam Titles and curved it gently around the top of the heart.

And there you have it one super fun summer layout and of course you could use a larger photo and add two smaller ones over the heart. Thank you for stopping by and happy creating!

Life is a Beach! | Sunkissed Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends, it may be winter here in Australia but in my craft room it is summer! I am still using my sun kissed collection and loving it!

I was set the challenge to scrap lift Tarrah, it took me ages to decide on a layout as she has created so many gorgeous layouts. Finally I settled on this one.

And here is my take on her sketch (I may have taken a little creative license!).

I used a palm leaf cut file from the Silhouette design store. So I could lift it somewhat (so it didn’t appear ‘flat’, I cut one in white and then another (using the off set function) using the Sunny Days paper. As in Tarrah’s layout I used a project life card from the collection, I just repositioned mine.

Once I had added my photo I created an embellishment cluster tucking die cuts under my photo, adding wooden epoxy button and finishing off adding a clear sticker paint brush stroke.

I next created a tropical floral cluster, the larger one being a cut file and the others from the floral ephemera pack adding some of the flowers and leaves from the Puffy Stickers pack.

To finish off I added some puffy stickers on my photo, added a die cut ticket and then lightly splashed my layout with some white paint. If you like multiple photos you could replace the project life card and add another photo! Isn’t it mazing how different a sketch can look just by changing the collection!

Hello CVS friends! Most that know me, know I use cut files on many of my layouts but with this layout I dusted off my metal dies and punches. I had forgotten how many gorgeous dies and punches I have. I still can’t resist Sunkissed and so I created another summer themed layout.

I have used only two papers from the Sunkissed collection, Growing Wild and Feelin Fine for this layout. Keeping to the rule of thirds I cut three strips in varying sizes with the pink strip in the middle. I used a punch to create the scallop border. Once I had adhered to my base paper I added a row of machine stitching on the edge of each strip to add definition.

I found a beautiful butterfly die and cut several in the same pink paper strip and using wet glue only in the centre of the butterfly adhered to my layout. I then gently pulled the wings up to create dimension. I did this to create texture so my strip didn’t look ‘flat’. I next added my title using the gorgeous glitter foam stickers .

I have used a 5×5 inch photo and added foam tape to adhere, as I like to tuck elements under the photo, my foam tape is not directly at the edges. I then set about creating two embellishment clusters on either side of my photo. I used a palm leaf die and then added florals from the floral ephemera pack and die cut ephemera I used the swimsuit and thongs. I finished off this cluster adding a puffy sticker and phrase sentiment from the die cut pack.

 

I created a floral cluster on the opposite side, tucking under leaves and finishing off with another puffy sticker and phrase sentiment die cut.

Don’t be afraid of creating embellishment clusters on a patterned paper like I have done here, as long as you add layers, use foam tape to create dimension it can work well design wise. I added a clear sticker paint brush stroke under my photo to provide a contrast against the white finishing off with a die cut heart.

I really enjoyed using my punches and metal dies, you don’t have to use many to make an impact on your layout!

Sweet Memories | Sunkissed | Rachel Lowe

Hi everyone, today I have my second layout to share using the fab Sunkissed collection. I just adore this rainbow paper Sunny Days and this was the inspiration for my layout.

My photo is of my daughter at one of our gorgeous beaches in Western Australia. I used a swimsuit cut file from the Silhouette Design Store. I placed this on a slight angle of my page but only putting double sided tape in the middle of the swimsuit so I could tuck some flowers from the floral ephemera pack and so I could add machine stitching to the swimsuit (sewing machine needles do not like double sided tape).

I next added my photo with foam tape so I could add elements under it. My photo size is 4×5 inches. I am such a fan of puffy stickers and wood epoxy buttons which I have used to layer a single die cut.

I created an embellishment cluster under my photo my photo and using phrase sentiments from the die cut ephemera pack and so they didn’t get ‘lost’ on the busy rainbow paper I chose strong contrasting colours and added with foam tape to add height. I finished this cluster off adding puffy stickers and all Australian Jandals or thongs (flip flops for everyone else!!!)

I love adding embellishments to my photos, the sun puffy sticker perfect on my photo. I also added some gold hearts randomly over my rainbow paper from the glitter foam title stickers to add more texture to my layout.

I added some sky to my layout by tearing the top right corner of the rainbow paper and using the Just Chillin paper, which is the same paper I used for the swimsuit and adding a rainbow puffy sticker so they looked connected. If you are not sure about machine stitching on your layout here are some tips to make it easier: firstly make sure your speed is at the slowest in can be, this gives you more control and allows you to sew on the curves with greater accuracy, also I always add stitching at the beginning of my layout so if I mess it up I am not ruining a whole layout.
