Our Happy Home | Daydream Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle back today with a new layout featuring our newest collection Daydream for our current ‘Home is where the heart is’ theme. I chose a couple of cute photos of Leila to document from a few years back when we were in the process of building our first and current family home. Here’s a closer look..

 

 

How stinkin cute is that little face peeking through the un-bricked walls of our house in progress? Leila loved coming with us to check the progress of the house and I’m so glad I took photos to document the moment.

 

 

I paired these sweet photos with some fun house cutfiles from CUT to YOU, designed by fellow DT Member Gwen. There’s both a big house design and a row of smaller houses that I’ve backed with a mixture of patterns in pink, yellow, blue and grey.

 

 

I even gave the big house a little window box of flowers using a small floral cluster from the 6×8 paper stack version of Garden Variety. This little cluster was the main inspiration for the colour palette used for all the houses.

 

 

The papers I used for all these cute houses came from the 6×8 paper stack and include mini versions of designs from the bigger papers, most are from the reverse sides. Garden Variety – Main house, Daisy Days – blue daisy strip, Happy Place – roof of main house, All a Flutter – Heart on roof, Sun Shower – top of roof and chimney. I’ve used the same papers for the mini houses too.

 

 

I added another cluster of florals that spill out of the chimney, with a sprinkling of sequins

 

 

To the right of the ‘main house’ I’ve created a larger cluster using the photos, mini houses, mixed title and more florals. The title is made using an ephemera flag, cardstock title piece and some handwriting on a cut apart tag from the ‘Happy Place’ paper.

 

 

I finished the layout by backing the cardstock with some of the newest Cocoa Vanilla Studio Woodgrain pattern – Over the Rainbow – the reverse side to that amazing big rainbow paper. I also added some handwritten journaling to fill the white space to the top right of the houses and gave the whole layout a good splattering of gold ink.

Family Time | Daydream collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project using the amazing ‘Daydream’ collection. If you haven’t had a chance to create with this range yet, then do yourself a favour and make sure you check with your favourite retailer to see if they have it in stock – it is so gorgeous!

For this page, I decided to document a photo that I took a few months ago when some of my family got together to celebrate my boys 8th birthday. I began with a sheet of white cardstock and used inks to add  some subtle layered watercolour detail to the background.

Next, I layered some pieces of the Sun Shower; All Aflutter; Stepping Stones; and Up in the Clouds papers to form the mat for my photo. I then added some frayed gauze for texture and some scrap cardboard under my photo to pop it up from the page.

Once I had the photo in place it was time for some embellishments. I had the gorgeous floral print Garden Variety paper and my scissors at the ready to get cutting. I fussy cut several larger floral pieces and a few loose flowers, then tucked them in amongst the different paper layers around my photo. To give the flowers extra dimension, I bent up some of the petals and leaves, and used foam tape under some of the pieces.

To the left of my photo I added the flair button which read the good life from the Flair Button pack and a small blue heart from the Die Cut Ephemera pack directly onto the edge of my photo.
I couldn’t resist adding one of the adorable Puffy Hearts to my page, so I tucked a green one in amongst the flowers above my photo, which coordinated perfectly with where the green ink was on the background.

I created a small cluster in the top right corner of my photo using a few small stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet, then added a butterfly from the Die Cut Ephemera pack nearby.

I chose the words family time from the Die Cut Titles pack for my page title and completed my title cluster with a die cut rainbow and heart.

As a finishing touch I scattered a few sequins around the page from the Sequins and Flowers pack and a little handwritten journalling.

World Card Making Day celebration | CVS design team

Hi everyone, happy World Card Making Day! (And yes, it’s totally a thing and we did not make it up.) Today is a day for all the card makers out there, as we celebrate your special corner of the paper crafting world and the art of creating handmade cards.

So where did cards begin? The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of goodwill to celebrate the new year; and also to the early Egyptians who used papyrus scrolls to send greetings. In the 1400’s Europeans began selling and exchanging greeting cards (including Valentine’s cards). The first known published Christmas card can be traced back to 1843, although the official Greeting Card Industry was not formed until almost one hundred years later in 1941. These days, despite a booming industry in mass-produced cards, there are still many who prefer the personalised touch of a handmade card, and today we celebrate them with cards created by our entire design team.

Sweet moments | Daydream Collection | Anna Blades

Hi everyone!!

It’s Anna here with you today, with a new layout featuring the gorgeous Daydream collection. This week it’s all about sequins, flowers, and hearts. And that’s because this collection includes a lot of flowers (a must on CVS collections), a pack of beautiful sequins, and some adorable puffy fabric hearts. I don’t usually use sequins (we are not good friends), but for today’s project, I decided to create a shaker title as the focus of my page.

I started cutting out the word “moments” on the B side of the Garden Variety paper. I did it with a basic font that I already have on my computer. Then, I cut the same word on a piece of white foam, which I glued (the negative, not the letters) onto the B side of the Happy Place paper. I filled in all the letters with the sequins and covered the word with acetate.

The last step was to put the Garden Variety paper which I had previously cut on top of the acetate, fitting well all the letters. I used liquid glue. To make the word stand out a little more, I followed the outline of the letters with a white gel pen.  I completed my title with the word “sweet”, from the Die Cut Titles (I raised it with foam dots), and the word “happy” from the Accessory Stickers.

I used two photos in this layout. I framed one of them with one of the die cuts and attached a little tab, and backed the other one with a piece of patterned paper from the 6×8 Paper Pad. Between them, I created a little flower cluster. To balance the design, I made two big clusters with the die cut flowers. I placed one next to the word “sweet”, at the left of the title, and the other one on the right side, below the title. I stacked some flowers with foam dots to add more dimension. The flowers in this collection are so gorgeous! I could make tons of pages using them!

As the final touch, I took the white pen gel and made a frame all around the page, with some faux stitching at the corners. I think it’s subtle but nice. I hope it gives you some inspiration for different ways to build your titles. I did it with my cameo, but you can easily do that with metal die cuts or by hand!

Our Sunshine | Daydream Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello It’s Michelle here today with a new layout to share with you all as part of our current Product Focus theme. This week we’re showcasing fun ways to add our new Puffy Hearts, sequins and flowers to your crafty creations. I’ve used the Beautiful new Daydream Collection that features all of these sweet embellishments.

 

 

I’ve started the layout by using the paper ‘Sweet Serenity’ for the background as it gives the layout a mixed media look without having to get messy, plus its so so pretty. I’ve added a cutfile from CUT to YOU using some white cardstock, vellum and sequins, more on that below. There’s also another little hint of pink paper to make the super cute photo of Leila pop, this is the 6×8 version of ‘Stepping Stones’ from the 6×8 paper stack.

 

 

How cute is that little face. This photo, along with a few others, were taken by a local photographer to our area just before she turned One, oh how the years have flown. So many beautiful moments captured

 

 

Here’s a closer look at one of the areas that I went a little sequin crazy. I’ve used my trusty hot glue gun in areas of the cutfile that I had backed with cardstock and just dumped the entire packet of sequins over the top in hopes some of them would stick. I shook off the excess and repeated the process with the other open heart. I didn’t want the entire layout to look like a disco ball so I only went OTT with the sequins on 2 of the open hearts rather than all 3. I did also add a couple extras into the embellishment clusters.

 

 

The main embellishment cluster to the right of the photo came together pretty quickly by using some of the left over fussy cut flowers I had from the floral framed layout last fortnight, a puffy heart tucked in behind the layers and a sweet little flower.

 

 

To the left of the photo I’ve added a smaller cluster of florals to make it look like the two clusters are draped across the top of the cutfile with the photo sitting over the top.

 

 

The title nestled perfectly into the other sequin heart to the right of the layout, which I’ve adhered using foam tape so it didn’t sit too flat.

Our Home | Daydream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It’s Tarrah back with you on the Cocoa Vanilla blog and today I am sharing another new layout featuring the amazing new Daydream collection!

This week some of the design team are focusing on using the super cute puffy hearts and gorgeous sequins included in the Daydream collection!

I started out by choosing a super cute house cut file from CUT to YOU, I cut it from white cardstock and then backed all the different parts of the house with the gorgeous papers from the 6′ x 8′ paper pad. The paper pad is perfect for backing cut files and for making cards with, it means you do not have to cut into a full sheet of 12′ x 12′ paper just to use a small section. Once the sections were all backed, I adhered the entire cut file to plain white cardstock using craft foam to give it some dimension and I then trimmed the white cardstock down and matted the entire page with the ‘B’ side of the Garden Variety paper. I then machine stitched around the white edge of the white cardstock for some extra texture and detail.

As I went for a home themed page design, I documented a photo of my gorgeous nieces at their home cuddling up with a doona together. I placed the photo to the right side of the house cut file so that you could still see the door of the house! I knew I wanted to add the ‘Happy Days With You’ banner sticker to the front door as you can see in the detail photo below. To the right of the photo, I tucked in one of the journal tabs, some cute flower die-cuts and a small tab that says ‘Sweet’. I also layered one of the moth die-cuts to the bottom right corner of the photo. Underneath the photo, I created a another small cluster including a small house die-cut with layered stickers over the top. Here I also stamped the date stamp of when the photo was taken.

The Daydream collection has the most gorgeous rainbows included in it so I added one of the rainbow stickers above the photo, it was the perfect size. I wanted to add the small yellow sequins to the windows of the cut file design to replicate a reflecting look like you would get from the glass of actual windows, I think these look cute placed here.

I also wanted to give the roof of the house cut file some texture like rooves have so the sequins were the perfect element to add here. They fit perfectly and give some texture to enhance the roof in the design. I also placed the mint green puffy heart to the heart in the cut file design – again the prefect embellishment to add here! The title is made up of the cardstock die-cut words, I added foam dots under the title to help pop it up off the page. I love the dimension it created. I added a few more phrase accessory stickers below the title here. The chimney at the top of the house was looking a little bare so I decided to add some of the small floral die-cuts tucked into it. I think these look cute too! Lastly I added another moth up near the chimney and a heart sticker too.

Happy Days | Daydream collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It’s Sue Plumb here today to share my latest design team page with you. This layout is actually the very first page I created with the brand new ‘Daydream’ collection, even though I am only sharing it now. When I cracked open this collection to create, I couldn’t help myself but reach for the adorable Over the Rainbow paper first. (I think there are lots of people who did the same – including our design team!) You may recall seeing lots of rainbow themed layouts over the past week from our team as part of our rainbow theme, so I thought what better time to share this page and join in the fun!

Now the funny thing about this layout, is I already knew I was going to make it before I even received the collection. (Very unlike me to plan a page ahead of time!) As soon as I saw Zoe’s reveal of this paper, I knew I wanted to use a silhouetted photo of my daughter standing under the rainbow (so I had her pose for the photo in advance).
I started my layout by adding a little bit of extra detail to the paper. I used a fine tip white paint pen to add faux stitched detail along the edges of some of the rainbow arches, and then faux hand stitched details onto the blue hearts.

I then cut around my photo to get rid of all the background and placed some messy white cotton thread for soft texture where my photo was going to go. I used some scrap cardboard behind the photo to pop it up from the page.
Once I had the photo in place I added a floral piece from the Die Cut Ephemera pack along the bottom edge of the page so it looked as though she was springing from a bunch of flowers. I also added a small floral sprig and the fantabulous banner piece to cover her hand.

Now it was time to add some extra detail around my page. In keeping with the whimsical scene I was creating, I added the die cut sun from the ephemera pack in the top right corner of the page using some foam tape to pop it up. I also used the happy days words from the ephemera pack as my page title.

With my daughter’s pose of her hand being held joyfully in the air, I wanted to create a look as though she was scattering some fun / happiness / rainbow vibes, so I used a selection of sequins from the Sequins & Flowers pack and stuck them as though they were being thrown from her hand.
I also added three fussy cut butterflies from the All Aflutter paper, placing them so they were on the coordinating coloured arch on the rainbow.
I finished off with a few happy phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet placed onto the rainbow and my page was done. This whimsical scene was unlike my usual style of page, but I really had fun creating it and I am happy I could bring my vision to life. (And my daughter absolutely loves it, which is the most important thing, right?!)

Sweet Beautiful You | Daydream Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello its Michelle here today with a new layout to share with you all. I’ve used the NEW Daydream Collection and went a little crazy with some fussy cut flowers, lots of flowers.

The main focus of this layout is definitely the beautiful floral paper ‘Garden Variety‘ that I’ve fussy cut to frame the corners. I used a few different forms of adhesive to add layers and dimension to the outer edge of the layout, making the clusters pop off the white background.

So many sweet florals and colours in this collection, I had a hard time not adding more to these corners.

I kept the photo stack pretty simple by backing each photo with some pink paper from the 6×8 paper stack. This is the same design as the ‘Stepping Stones‘ paper but in a smaller scale. I added a little foam to the back of each and adhered them to the newest CVS woodgrain paper ‘Over the Rainbow’. Zoe’s woodgrain paper designs have captured the hearts of many people, that they could definitely be added together to form their own special edition collection. If only!

I added a couple of stickers from the accessory sticker sheet and part of a cut apart tag from the 6×8 paper stack into the layers of the photo stack just for a little extra ’embellishing’

I added some foam adhesive tape to the Cardstock title pieces  and added an accessory sticker to create the title , then some handwritten journalling underneath to fill in some of the blank space below.

Here’s a closer look at my favourite of the floral clusters. These are super easy to create with this paper as the clusters are already designed, you just need to cut them out and adhere to the layout, or layer with a couple of individual florals for extra dimension.

I scattered a few sequins around all the florals and splattered the layout with some gold colour shine to finish it all off.

Happy Christmas | Tis The Season Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah McLean back with you on this Thursday! I hope all my fellow Aussie friends are all safe from these horrendous bush fires we are experiencing in our country at present?

Today I am sharing a layout for the Cut Files theme we have on all this week and being that its Thursday I was also given ‘Throwback Thursday’ where we create with an older collection. I decided to create a Christmas layout since it is fast approaching!I started my page by taking a sheet of white cardstock and adding a piece of vellum over the top to mute the white a little bit, as I had lots of the sequins left from the Tis The Season collection, I decided to add lots of them under the vellum to create a shaker pocket. Once I had added the sequins, I then machine stitched all the edges so that they wouldn’t fall out. I love how this turned out! I like that it adds another feature to my layout.

I took two of the 12 x 12 papers and cut some vertical strips from them and placed them down each side of the layout. then chose a gorgeous cut file title design by Cut To You and added some of the patterned papers behind each of the words. I added craft foam to the underneath and placed it in the centre of my page. I also popped up the photo of my sons on Christmas Day with craft foam so that it was at the same level as the title on my page. I love the shadows and dimension this creates on my page.

I then began to embellish my page using some of the accessory stickers (that are still available in the store) some of the die-cuts, wood veneers and of course a bitty bow and the tiny metal key! I only had 1 of the poinsettia flowers in the die-cut pack left so I added just the one to the very bottom of the title and layered the bow over the top. Lastly I added some of the enamel dots from the Tis The Season collection.  Have you got any of the Tis The Season collection left? Pull it out and get creating with it! Its such a soft and gorgeous collection for Christmas photos.

Love This | Midnight | Amanda Baldwin

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends!

Amanda here, and today I am sharing my take on this week’s design team theme post using the divine MIDNIGHT collection. The theme this week is….

creations that “put a ring on it”. 

Think rings, wreaths, circles, dots – basically include any round element! Such a fun theme!

Here’s what I came up with….

Oh.my.heart!!! So dreamy & divine!

The MIDNIGHT collection is so elegant &  beautiful! It’s the perfect collection for documenting stories of my sweet girl!

Here’s a closer look for you….

So incredibly beautiful!

I start this layout with pattern paper, CV-MN007 INKY DEPTHS – it’s the perfect base! Such a stunning background paper & I just love how it reminds me of the night sky and clouds. To this paper, I trace a circle shape to create a guideline for my wreath (ring) design.

To form the wreath, I fussy cut pattern paper CV-MN001 BLOOM &GROW. I arrange these larger blooms over the traced circle, and adhere with a mix of double sided tape and foam mounting tape. This adds a sense of dimension, soft texture, and brings interest to the design.

I also fussy cut the wreath icon from the CV-MN006 ALL THE THINGS pattern paper, and adhere it to the opening of my ring design (top right corner). Here’s a close up for you…

SO pretty!!!

Next, I pull out my gel pens, and draw a mix of sketchy leaves that are not dissimilar to that of the BLOOM & GROW pattern paper. The white gel pen is super striking on the INKY DEPTHS paper!

The scribbled leaves serve two purposes – they add a new design element (& visual stimulus) to the layout, plus they also ‘build up’ the wreath so that it looks full and attractive. In keeping with the whimsical feeling of the page, I add lots of tiny dots in both white, pink & blue pen.

I just LOVE how effective the gel pen looks!

Design Tip: If you like this look, but are nervous about drawing on your  layouts, you could always achieve the same look using stamps and white embossing powder.

Next, I tuck my photo into the left hand side of the wreath and decorate around it with a few ACCESSORY STICKERS. I also embellish with that fabulous FLAIR BUTTON (which also features a pretty wreath on it!). Lots of rings and wreaths and pretties on this sweet page!

With the ACCESSORY STICKERS handy, I also add some butterflies to the wreath and add a subtitle to the bottom right corner, Love you so….

For finishing touches I foam mount the Love this DIE CUT EPHEMERA title to the fussy cut ALL THE THINGS wreath, and sprinkle a few HELLO LOVELY sequins!

 

Voila! Beautiful creating in a matter of minutes!
