Gather Together Layout | Heart & Home | Niki Rowland

Hi everyone, this is Niki (@nikiclairecreates) and on this scrapbook layout I have used the new beautiful Heart & Home collection to create a design with circles, stencilling and a cute little sequin shaker pocket out of a piece of ephemera. There is a process video for this layout which can be found lower down.

I started with the beautiful Flurry paper which is dark blue with multicoloured leaves on one side, and has a multicoloured check on the other side. Of course I loved both sides! I cut some circles and positioned these onto a white background together with some patterned paper stripes too.

I made a sequin shaker pocket out of the wreath from the Die Cut Ephemera. I cut a piece of white card to back the wreath with, and cut a piece of acetate the same size. I then machine stitched the two pieces together trapping some sequins inside. I then added the wreath ephemera on top of the sequin pocket – it looks so cute!

I embellished the layout with Floral Ephemera and also added a small amount of stencilling around my circles and photos using a sun beam style stencil.

For my title I used one of the gorgeous Gold Titles ‘gather’ and then added the word ‘together’ using the Mini Puffy Alphabet Stickers.

I finished off with puffy heart stickers and splatters of white paint!

Beautiful | Daydream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new layout featuring the gorgeous Daydream collection! The Daydream collection would have to be one of my all time favourite collections by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. Which collection would be your favourite?

The photos I am documenting on this layout are of my niece when she was posing with a cute hat on her head! The florals and the lovely words in this collection are perfect to go with my photo.

I decided to start out my layout with a plain white piece of cardstock, which I often do, I then cut strips of different patterned papers from the Daydream collection in 1 inch sizes. I strategically then arranged these strips into a triangular pattern so that no 2 patterns were together on the page. I matted the photos with some of the papers from the A5 paper pack and arranged the photos slightly overlapping each other.

The floral die-cuts in the Daydream collection (or any of the collection for that matter) are just so beautiful! They look absolutely gorgeous when they are added to a project! I tucked in lots of different sizes and colours at each side of the photos and I also tucked some in to the top of the photos as well. I added different heights of foam adhesive and regular adhesive to get the shadow and dimension on my page. Once they were all stuck down, I bent up the edges of the petals and the leaves to make them look more realistic as well!

My title is made up of the gorgeous cardstock title words and I also added one of the banner die-cuts below the title too. I adhered it slightly overlapping the bottom of the photos and added foam tape to the bottom of the title to adhere it with the same level as the photos. Some of the smaller embellishments that I added include accessory stickers, moth and heart die-cuts and also some of the super cute sequins. You can see I added some of the sequins to the centres of the flowers, I love how the sequins look in the centres of the flowers. I should add sequins to my projects a lot more often!

Above the photo on the right, I also added one of the tab stickers from the accessory sticker sheet and also added one of the super cute fabric puffy hearts here too. Lastly I stamped my date stamp and called my layout finished. I love how it turned out. I love the pattern that the papers make on the page and how the florals look even against the busy patterned paper background.

Love | Daydream collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here with you today, and I have a layout to share for our sketch theme this month. To make it even more fun, it’s Throwback Thursday! It’s probably no surprise that I decided to pull out the Daydream collection for this layout. It’s definitely one of my all time favourite collections, and it worked perfectly with this photo of my hubby and eldest daughter that I wanted to scrapbook! For my sketch inspiration, I decided on using one from Creative Memories…

I love working with sketches when I’m creating a layout. I find that they’re great for giving me a jumping off point and they provide inspiration for different page designs that I wouldn’t necessarily come up with on my own. I chose this sketch as I love the patchwork style design in the background, as well as the large circular element in the middle of the page. After that, I deviated from the sketch a bit as I only had one photo, and therefore didn’t create the collage of photos inside the circle, but the general design of the page is there.

I started my layout off by selecting some patterned papers from the 6×8 Inch Paper Stack to create my background. I cut each piece at 4.8cm x 14.4cm, and then pieced them together on my white cardstock background, making sure to balance out the patterns and colours as I went. I then cut a circle out of white cardstock, which was 8 1/2 inches in diameter, and I cut a slightly larger circle out of the peach All Aflutter patterned paper to matt the white cardstock circle onto. I also added some machine stitching around the circle to give the page some additional texture. My photo was matted on another paper from the 6×8 Inch Paper Stack, and was then adhered inside the circle.

Next I created an embellishment cluster on the top right hand corner of the photo, using a floral cluster that I fussy cut out of the beautiful Garden Variety patterned paper, as well as a rainbow Sticker. I also added my title here using one of the words from the Die Cut Titles pack.

To balance out the first embellishment cluster, I added another fussy cut floral cluster on the bottom left hand corner of the photo. You’ll notice that I chose florals with a curved design so that they followed the shape of the circle. I adhered this floral cluster with foam tape to add some nice dimension to the page.

To finish the layout off I added a couple of butterflies, one from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and the other fussy cut from one of the 6×8 papers. I also sprinkled around some sequins as well as a few more tiny fussy cut flowers.

I had so much fun creating this layout and I love the unique design that the sketch inspired!

Happy Easter Egg Hunt | These Days + Daydream collections | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share an Easter themed layout with you! I used a combination of two of my favourite collections for this page… These Days and Daydream. These collections work beautifully together, and the soft pastel colours in both collections were perfect for an Easter themed layout. I documented a photo of my kids from last Easter, all ready for their Easter Egg Hunt!

I started my layout off with a sheet of white cardstock as my background, and then cut a 2 1/2 inch wide strip of the green These Days Family Ties paper to layer across the bottom of the page. I cut the top edge of the paper in a wavy line to make it look a bit like a grassy mound for my Easter basket to sit. Next I cut a 1 inch wide border out of the yellow  Daydream Sun Shower paper, and layered that over the top of the background. I added some machine stitching around the page, just inside the yellow border, to give the page some additional texture.

For my Easter basket I used a cut file from The Cut Shoppe. I cut it out of white cardstock and backed it with patterned papers from the These Days A5 Paper Stack. I also embellished in and around the basket with flowers from the Daydream Die Cut Ephemera pack, as well as some floral clusters that were fussy cut out of the Daydream Garden Variety paper. The basket was adhered using craft foam for added dimension.

Next I matted my photo with the These Days Family Ties paper and adhered it to the the right of the Easter basket. I added a little banner from the Daydream Accessory Stickers to the top right hand corner of the photo, and then created another floral cluster to the right of the photo using flowers and leaves from the Daydream Die Cut Ephemera pack.

For my title I used the ‘Happy’ Die Cut word from the Daydream collection combined with Mini Puffy Alpha Stickers from the These Days collection. I love all those pretty colours in the alpha stickers, and that sweet font! I arranged my title in a curve to follow the shape of the handle on the basket.

To finish the layout off I added some typed journaling strips underneath the photo, and I sprinkled around some sequins from the Daydream Sequins and Flowers pack.

Egg Hunt | No Limits Collection | Danni Visser

Hi Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with an Easter themed layout using the incredible No Limits collection. This collection may not be traditionally themed towards tEaster, but with a little creativity you can challenge yourself to create a gorgeous holiday layout!

For this one I took inspiration from the exploding star pattern on Big Bang 12×12 patterned paper and decided to add some sparkle using hand stitching. I pierced holes following the starburst pattern on the paper, then threaded them using a running stitch with some teal and metallic silver embroidery thread, adding sparkly sequins into the stitching as I went. I added some further interest by adding some ink splatters in soft blue and metallic silver to match the thread I used previously.

Stars are a great universal shape that can be used for pretty much any kind of layout. I took it one step further and cut my three photos into star shapes, placing one of them within the star shape on the patterned paper and the other two backed using the A5 paper stack patterned papers. I also added dimensional foam to give them added height.

For my title I wanted to add something small as my layout was already quite busy, so I took the yellow paper from the A5 paper stack and a small alphabet die set to custom make a small title. I used the same die set and yellow craft foam to create a foam backing for each of the letters, then glued them to the paper letters for a DIY dimensional alpha title. Super easy and effective!

To further embellish my photos I added some larger star outline shapes from the die cut ephemera and layered them over my two smaller photos, rotating them slightly for an interesting layered effect. To finish off the layouts, I added some small stars from the chipboard stickers, followed by some small die cut ephemera stars and finally a couple of puffy sticker stars. I scattered these around each of my star-shape photos for extra detail and visual interest.

Sweet Sunshine | Sunkissed Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Scrappy friends! It’s Michelle back today with a new layout to share as part of our current Sparkle and Shine theme. I recently got my DT Box full of Sunkissed goodness so I was super excited to use it for this layout, especially the NEW Gold Glitter Foam Titles. Oh my HECK they are stunning and perfect for a theme like this one!

I started the layout by getting a little messy, yep you read that right. Clean freak here got messy for a second layout in a row! I used pink and gold shimmer sprays to create a watercolour effect using the plastic packaging technique, then splattered over the top using the spray tube. Once it was dry (and very warped) I added paper strips across the middle ( Fun in the Sun & Feelin’ Fine ) and machine stitched for a little extra detail. Then I hand cut the wavy edge in the ‘ Sunny Days ‘ paper and tucked that under the layers

I used papers from the A5 Paper stack to layer under the photo ( Just Chillin’ and a pink version of Bright Side ) This whole stack was layered with foam both between layers and under the entire stack to give it dimension off the super warped, never going to be flat background. I tucked a label from the ‘ Fun in the Sun ‘ cut apart paper and a tab from the ephemera pack into the layers also.

To the right of the photo I added a large cluster of fussy cut flowers from the 12×12 version of the STUNNING ‘ Growing Wild ‘ paper. I’ve got a stack more cut out ready for the next few layouts too. I added the title under this using the sweet Gold Glitter Foam Titles – a new edition to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Embellishment range. Absolutely beautiful product to use. Oh and the Wood Buttons are back too, those who have followed CVS from the early days will remember these from earlier collections. I took the adhesive foam dot off the back and used a flat glue dot to adhere to the areas that already had enough dimension.

I used more fussy cut florals under the photo to create the second point to the visual triangle of embellishments I was aiming to achieve.

And then up the top of the layout a much smaller cluster of florals mixed with bunting flags from the ephemera pack. This is when I started adding all the sequins (from the Daydream collection) and a few glitter hearts from the Gold Glitter Foam titles pack. Tiny sequins to add a little hint of extra sparkle and to give the clusters a more completed look.

Lastly I added a touch of handwriting to document this season of life, or I should say that season. A time when Leila would actually cooperate and sit still long enough for me to take photos like this. These days they are very few and far between now that she is 10. I cherish all the photos I was able to get when she was younger, I might need to use bribery for some updates!

Before we say goodbye for today, here’s one final look at the entire layout

I think its safe to say the messy stuff is here to stay.. it certainly adds an extra element of completion to a layout.

Lovely | Happiness collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new layout featuring the stunning Happiness collection! My assignment for today was to scrap lift a layout from the Cocoa Vanilla Community on Facebook. Scroll down to see the gorgeous layout I chose to lift!

The layout above is my scrap lift of this gorgeous layout below created by Niki Rowland! I just love the colours and how everything was centred underneath and around her photo on the page. Niki used the stunning Daydream collection on her layout while I chose to use the Happiness collection as there are similar elements in both collections.

I love how Niki used so many titles from the Daydream title pack, I chose to use 1 title however I added a few coloured rainbow cut files ( an old cut file from The Cut Shoppe) to balance and replicate Niki’s title placement. She also added small rainbow embellishments so the cut files I chose to use were a perfect addition to my page.

The photo I am documenting is of my eldest niece – she is wearing a cute rainbow dress, the photo was my inspiration for this page with the colours and theme I was going for. To make the photo stand out from the colourful background, I added a small piece of the navy paper under my photo. As I don’t really do a lot of mixed media and Niki has done a little on her page, I opted to use the gorgeous water colour clear stickers from the Happiness collection, I love how these add a little subtle colour without the mess and having to wait for things to dry! (I am so impatient!) You can see I did add a little sprinkling of gold Heidi Shine, that’s about as messy as I get!

When it was time to embellish my layout, I simply went with a tone on tone look. I arranged the rainbow cut files how I liked them and then added similar coloured small embellishments close to the colour of the rainbow. If you look at Niki’s layout, she did a similar thing. You can see in the above photo that I placed an orange clear sticker under the orange rainbow, fussy cut an orange butterfly and adhered it with a small orange flower. I did this for all the colours on my page. I also added some green sequins like Niki did and a pink and white stripe bow from an older Cocoa Vanilla collection. I trimmed down the white cardstock so that I could add the navy 12′ x 12′ paper as a mat to the entire layout. I do this quite often if I use a plain white cardstock background in the beginning.

Merry and Bright | Merry & Bright collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here to share my very first layout using the brand new ‘Merry & Bright’ collection. For this Christmas page, I couldn’t go past documenting one of my kids Santa photos from last year. Each year we try to do something a little out of the ordinary, as it not only makes it easier to get my kids to do it, but it also gives us something fun to look back on. (Not to mention giving Santa a good giggle as well.) Last year we decided to go with a Queen theme, as Bohemian Rhapsody is one of our favourite car sing-along songs.

Here is my layout…

As soon as I opened this collection, I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous wood grain print on the Season’s Greetings paper. (Zoe always has the best wood grains!) I decided to use it as the basis for my page, so I cut it down to measure 10×10″ and then mounted it onto the script pattern of the Oh What Fun paper to add a border.

I really wanted to make the background bit more “me” so I decided to add some mixed media as well. I brushed on some dark grey acrylic paint, then used a loose script stencil (which tied in beautifully with the script print paper) and some gold glaze to add texture.

Now it was time for some papery layers! I used pieces of some of the scaled down prints from the A5 Paper Stack to use as layers under my photo, adding in a dark grey paper doily (to tie in with the paint) and some frayed gauze for texture. I also added some cardboard to the back of my photo to help pop it up from the page.

For my embellishments, I began with the gorgeous floral pattern of the Joy to the World paper because I couldn’t wait to fussy cut those flowers! I cut two large pieces which I tucked in under the bottom left and top right corners of the photo, to create a diagonal flow to help draw the viewer’s eye through the photo. I also added an extra flower from the Die Cut Ephemera pack.

Then it was time for some pretty little bits and pieces. I used three of the Puffy Gold Stars, which I attached using my stapler; and some small pieces of twisted gold wire, which I also stapled to the page.

For my title, I fussy cut the words merry and bright from one of the 3×4″ Pocket Cards and then adhered it below my photo using foam tape to pop it up from the page. I also tucked in the sweet little Santa Flair Button alongside my title.

To finish off, I stamped the date and a few phrases using a roller stamp from my stash; then added a touch more festive sparkle with some splatters of gold mist and a sprinkling of gold sequins.

I’ve already been busy creating more layouts with this collection and I can’t wait to share them with you soon. If you don’t have this collection yet, make sure you contact your favourite retailer to ask if they have it in stock.

Sweet Heart | Daydream Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, its Melissa and I’m back with you today to share another layout that I made with the gorgeous ‘DAYDREAM’ collection.  I’m nearly ready to start creating Christmas layouts, but first I wanted to create a layout with the signature paper from this range called ‘OVER THE RAINBOW’, and I’m sure you’ll know which paper I’m talking about because it has the woodgrain on the A side and the rainbow on the B side.  I’ve seen a lot of beautiful layouts created with both sides of this paper, and I wanted to challenge myself to use the rainbow with hand stitching.

I also wanted to challenge myself to use more that one paper for my background. The ‘SUN SHOWER’ paper was perfect with the raindrops, and then I used ‘SWEET SERENITY’ for the remainder of the background.  I love the way that the rainbow stops the rain!!

I started by cutting apart the rainbow, and then I pulled matching threads in each of the colours.  Last time I created with Daydream I did some hand stitching on one of the ephemera rainbows, and I decided I wanted to recreate that to really help the rainbow shine.  I especially love stitching sequins, and all of the sequins on this layout are from the ‘SEQUINS & FLOWERS’ pack. I even stitched the tiny gold sequins in the zig zag pattern printed on the paper.

For my embellishment I predominantly used fussy cut floral clusters from ‘GARDEN VARIETY’ and I love how they look with around my photo and tucked under pieces of the rainbow.  Of course I had to use a ‘PUFFY HEART’ too!!

As explained in my journalling, the photo is a sweet photo of my youngest daughter Ava which I took in our local deli!  I found that the best place for my journalling was in the centre of the smallest part of the rainbow.

I also added some of the phrases from the ‘ACCESSORY STICKERS’ which are always perfect if you don’t journal, or if you want a couple of words to help tell your story.  The papers that mat my photo are from the ‘6X8 PAPER STACK’ and I purposefully chose papers that were darker to contrast against all of the lighter rainbow colours. 

Sometimes I really struggle with the words for a title for my layout, and I love that I found a title for my page easily from the ‘DIE CUT TITLES’.

Sweet | Daydream collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. This weekend we are doing “Scraplift Saturday and Sunday”, so myself and Rachel (tomorrow) will both be sharing a scraplift of a recent layout from our Facebook Community group. The layout we are lifting was this beautiful entry into our October “Spring Vibes” monthly challenge by Debra Beer…

Scraplifting is when you take a design from someone else and use it as the basis for your own page. This could range from copying the design in its entirety using the exact same materials; to simply using the page as inspiration and treating the bones of the page like a sketch. Both Rachel and I have scraplifted the same layout to demonstrate how one page can inspire people in different ways.
Here is my take on Debra’s page using the ‘Daydream’ collection…
The first thing I decided when it came to creating my page, was that rather than a white cardstock background, I chose to use the Sun Shower patterned paper instead. I topped this with a piece of the Daisy Days paper to form the focal point of my page. I added extra texture to the paper by distressing the edges; and stuck some torn strips of washi tape under the top and bottom edges of it – just like Debra had also used washi tape on her page. I also added some frayed gauze for more texture.
On top of the Daisy Days paper, I added a small piece of the navy Up in the Clouds paper to help separate my photos a little from the busy floral print. For my photos, I also chose to go with both a portrait and landscape shot, just as the original page had. These photos were taken recently while my family were celebrating my mum’s birthday. I also added a paper doily, but changed the position of it slightly to tuck under the left top corner of my photo and I also tucked in a circular floral frame from the Die Cut Ephemera pack.
Just like Debra’s original page, I wanted to embellish my layout using clusters of flowers. I fussy cut several pieces from the Garden Variety paper and combined them with some ephemera pieces to create three clusters to frame around my photos. I also added a couple of small phrase stickers to my page from the Accessory Sticker sheet.
I finished off by adding a Die Cut Title word along the bottom edge of my photo, then added some scattered sequins from the Sequins and Flowers pack instead of the enamel dots Debra had used. A few tiny splatters of black ink, my journalling, a stamped date and I was done!
