This Sweet Life | Day Dream | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends Rachel here and I have a pretty layout to share using the beautiful new Day Dream collection.

Not being a mixed media girl I love papers that have done all the work for you! I love how beautiful the SWEET SERENITY paper and it gives you that water colour mixed effect to your layout.

I am scrapping a photo of my DD and have used a fab new cut file by Paige Evans available in the Silhouette Design store. Who doesn’t love an embroidery hoop!

I used DAISY DAYS and SUN SHOWER papers to paper piece the embroidery hoop cut file. I then used foam tape to adhere my photo.

I hand stitched the thread of the cut file to add texture and so it made the embroidery hoop appear more authentic.

I just had to add one of the PUFFY HEARTS because I love them!!! I decided on my title taking the SWEET and LIFE words from the DIE CUT TITLES.

Using the DIE CUT EPHEMERA pack I created two embellishment clusters, one to the right of my photo overlapping the embroidery hoop and the second at the top of the hoop. I layered die cut florals, phrase sentiments and moths, foam tapping some to add dimension.

I tucked a die cut rainbow behind the LIFE word and finished off adding some NUVO clear crystal jewel drops to create shadows on flower petals and leaves, and moths wings.

I really don’t think this layout would have so much visual interest if I used a white background and I certainly enjoyed working with a background paper that didn’t need a thing doing to it!

This Happy Place | Day Dream collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends! I finally used the Over the Rainbow paper (because I can’t keep it in my stash just to look at it because it is so pretty lol). Of course it is the perfect paper to scrap the photo of my new craft room mural which is Zoe’s rainbow design.

 

Before adding anything to my page I added some machine stitching and white Nuvo crystal drops. I didn’t want to make it too busy but wanted to add a little texture.

I have used a pretty bird cut file from the Silhouette Design store, I wanted to height add create the illusion of a moving element on my page so it didn’t look ‘flat’. I used the 6×8 inch paper pad to paper piece the bird (which is a great way to save your 12×12 papers for a larger project). I used Happy Place, All a Flutter and Stepping Stones papers.

To tie the bird in I used a larger floral die cut adding with foam tape (this way it doesn’t look like you have added an element for no good reason). I added some clear Nuvo crystal drops to the flower petals for texture.

I next added the photo of my craft room mural using a die cut frame and adding with foam tape. I added a sweet flair from the collection to draw your eye to the photo (and because it is so cute!)

I created my title by using a word from the Die Cut Titles and a phrase from the Accessory Sticker sheet, because yes this indeed is my happy place.

I finished off adding a fussy cut butterfly/moth and some phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet. I love how it turned it, but everything in this collection makes it easy to create super beautiful layouts!

The Good Life | Daydream collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends Rachel here! Haven’t the DT layouts using the stunning new collection Daydream been just gorgeous! I had to use all my restraint not to use the rainbow paper this time around, but I promise I will end up over using it as it is my absolute fav!

So here is my first layout using Daydream titled The Good Life, which is documenting our sea change to a coastal regional town (which was the best decision ever!)

I chose a camper cut file as my new home is all about the sea and visitors in camper vans all summer long. I used Garden Variety  and Daisy Days papers to create the body of the camper van. I used Sun Showers paper and the wood grain paper from the 6×8 inch paper pad to create chassis and wheel. I then machine stitched each segment. I added the curtain and door with foam tape to create height.  I had to use the gold puffy heart which went perfectly in the centre of the wheel.

I created a floral cluster using the die cut flowers from the Ephemera pack, this was to add a feature that softened the layout. I layered them and used foam tape to adhere some of them. I added some glossy accents to the flowers, cut file leaves in white and finished off with a moth/butterfly.

My photo is of our jetty at sunset which is stunning. I framed it with a die cut frame and added to my layout with foam tape. I tucked the sun die cut under the frame and finished off adding one of the gorgeous flairs. I used a scallop paper strip to form my ‘sky’ and a strip from the Garden Variety paper to create my ‘grass’. This links everything together.

I added journalling under the camper in the form of a phrase sentiment from the die cut pack and some that I typed.

This would make a great travel layout and of course you could add more photos!

Happy Heart | Bohemian Dream | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends, Rachel here! Today I have a fun layout using lots of colour and busy patterns which if done in a balanced way and with a white (or black) contrast totally work. I have used Bohemian Dream collection. I cut a piece of white cardstock to 10×10 inches. I added some turquoise paint brush strokes randomly across the page and splattered lightly with some black paint (this is as messy as I can get lol). I then added messy machine stitching in a turquoise colour. I also tore some of the white cardstock edges for texture.I attached this to the stunning Abundant paper as a stunning border. I used two floral cut files from the Silhouette Design to add to the sides of my pages. I used another busy paper Flower Child  to paper back these, which you can do as they have the white background paper to contrast.I love using the Accessory Stickers to create my journalling which I usually tuck into embellishment cluster.I added my photo using s die cut frame and then added more florals to either side and finished off adding some phrase banners under my photo and not forgetting a gorgeous butterfly which I had to add because the colour was perfect! I also added my photo with foam tape which I always do when I am using a smaller photo so it has dimension.Lastly I added my title using a die cut and accessory sticker words, I love the contrast between big and small in a title. I went back and added some enamel dots to add more texture.This layout would be perfect for a teenage girl themed layout, it’s modern, bright, bold and lots of fun!Thank you so much for stopping by today and I am so excited to share my first layout using the stunning Day Dream collection, so see you all soon. Is it over yet? | Life is Beautiful Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends today I have a layout that although the subject matter is of a more serious matter it doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty! I have used Life is Beautiful (Digital collection available) collection, which remains one of my fav CVS collections.

Let’s talk about texture. If you are not a fan or experienced in mixed media how do you add texture to a layout? I focused on texture when creating this layout. Paper tearing is one way to add texture, and paper tearing also allows you to add elements under and over the tears which also adds more visual impact.

Another way of adding texture is to sew on your layout, either by hand or using a sewing machine. I always add machine stitching to my layouts. Another technique with stitching is sewing over a strip of paper and then tearing the paper away from the stitching.

 

Paper layers, dimension (ie foam tape to attach some elements and enamel dots) and a light spray of paint (here I have used black) all add texture to a layout.

Recently I have dusted off my embossing folders and started to add texture to papers and elements using various embossing folders. So my 2020 did not look ‘flat’ I embossed with a polka dot folder and added dimension fluid dots which I also added over my title also.

I really enjoyed putting this layout together focusing on textures! I also wanted to scrap a part of the Covid 19 journey that I am involved in, because memory keepers is what we are.

This Life is so Good | Happiness Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hey all Rachel here! I recently realised I had never used the pre cut cut files, so I decided it was time! This geometric heart cut file from the Happiness  collection it is so  gorgeous and all I did was add some machine stitching! The photo is of my girl caught on our bed, but she looked so cute instead of telling her off I grabbed my camera!

I love the black foam sticker titles (from the Unforgettable collection) and against pinks and florals it creates a stunning contrast and visual impact. I plan ahead where I am going to position them as I wanted to add several.

I matted my photo on the frame of mind paper using the green side (all papers from the Happiness collection). I added it with foam tape as I wanted to tuck elements under it. From the Happiness die cut ephemera I added a floral bunch and two of the tassels and finished off this embellishment cluster with a gorgeous Happiness flair button.

On the other side of my photo I added a floral bunch that I fussy cut from the so fresh paper finished off with fussy cut butterflies from the bright and beautiful paper which I adhered with foam to create a 3d effect.

I next created my title using a mix of the foam titles (and hearts) and accessory sticker phrase sentiments. I added a Happiness clear sticker paint brush strokes over the sentiments.

I added another foam sticker title which I slightly curved to fit the shape of the heart. Lastly I added another row of machine stitching to border the page.

I love how this turned out and it’s just perfect to document my much loved girl! Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you all have a wonderful week and manage some scrapping time.

Unforgettable You | Mixed collections| Rachel Lowe

Hey CVS friends Rachel here. Last week I decided it was time for a sort out of my CVS collections, as often when I am creating I get messy and end up throwing my product back in its pizza box and close the lid to hide my laziness! Well it took me far too long but it was worth doing as I discovered I had more than I thought (of course) and I also realised how many papers from different CVS collection go together beautifully. This is what inspired this layout and it is a CVS all sorts!Firstly I chose this super sweet rainbow with cloud cut file (Silhouette Design store). I kept to the rule of thirds choosing three papers that coordinated. I used Navy flower vellum paper and Grow wild paper from Wild at Heart collection, the third paper is from the Midnight collection Moonlight. I added the rainbow with foam tape knowing I would tuck elements under it (and it creates a 3D effect). I used a polka dot embossing folder on my cloud which added texture and design (this stops it looking flat), I added the cloud with double sided tape.

I added a flair from Happiness collection, I chose the hot pink ‘good vibes’ one as it contrasted against the white.

I then used a mix of embellishments from various collections to pretty up this page. As always I added a paint/watercolour clear sticker behind my cloud and adding a die cut butterfly over it, both these elements being from the Unforgettable collection.

On the opposite side I added a floral cluster using die cuts again from Unforgettable, finishing this cluster off with a phrase sentiment and enamel dots.

I found a chipboard polaroid frame for my photo in a pretty polka dot peach and used a grey min bow to finish off. I added a die cut camera under the rainbow, added an enamel dot to the lens centre and lastly added another phrase sentiment.

I created my title using a mix of chipboard word (using a paint brush stroke clear sticker behind it) and accessory sticker phrase sentiment and a clear sticker butterfly. To create a visual break between the cloud and title I added a peach scallop die cut.

Scraplift a Fan! | Mixed collections | Rachel Lowe

Hey CVS friends, I loved this challenge and have chosen a fab layout created by Natalie King for the Grab 5 INSD 2020 challenge. And here is her gorgeous layout.

And here is my scrap lift of her layout.

I have used a mix of Bohemian Dream and Wild At Heart collections. I first cut a doily on my Silhouette instead of Natalie’s circle at 8 inches. I cut my white cardstock down to 10×10 inches. I used the vibrant Flower Child paper as my border page (creating a stark contrast for visual impact). I then used two polaroid die cut frames (these photos are 2.5×3 and 2×2 inches) and added with smaller photo with foam tape.

I next created the 3 embellishments clusters as Natalie did. I used the Bohemian Dream Ephemera die cuts, layering under and over the photos and a smaller one under the doily.

I have used enamel dots and some clear stickers to add a little mixed media feel and add more dimension.

You will see here that I have not glued the outer part of my doily cut file, only adhering the centre, this ensure it does not look ‘flat’ and helps create another layer on the layout.

I finished off my layout adding a clear sticker brush stroke on the edge of the white cardstock and added a sentiment banner over the top

I had such fun scrap lifting this layout! I also love going back and revisiting older collections and falling in love with them all over again! Thanks for stopping by and see you again soon.

Happy Layout | Legendary | Rachel Lowe

Hey CVS friends today I have a fab boy layout to share using my fav paper from the Legendary collection, Wild One !

I have used a cut file from the Silhouette Design Store (Happy Rainbow). Once I had cut the rainbow I them added machine stitching to each rainbow piece (you could hand stitch this too), I loving adding texture to my layouts and sewing on your layout is a great way to do that.

I then used the reverse of the Wild One paper (yellow and left over after cutting the rainbow) and cut the Happy off set. I cut the actual letters in white cardstock. This is added under the rainbow which I attached with foam tape to create dimension.

I added phrase sentiments from the Accessory Sticker sheet that tied in with my theme and photo. I also added these with foam tape to add even more dimension. I LOVE the Clear Stickers especially the mixed media elements (It saves so much time and mess lol) and I have added a contrasting green and orange paint brush stroke clear sticker under the yellow title.

I next added my photo matting it on Off Beat paper (blue star side) and added with foam tape. I then tucked under Die Cut Ephemera elements. How cute is the geometric bear! I added some more clear stickers and Enamel Dots.

I finished off with a light splatter of black paint on the white cardstock. I love how this turned out and such a sweet photo of my boy and his pup documented!

INSD Challenge Inspiration | Gwen, Tazhi, Anna B, Rachel and Michelle

Hi everyone! Today is our final day of sharing the projects our design team created for our International Scrapbook Day celebration. We are starting with Gwen, who designed a “Grab 5” challenge for everyone and her criteria were – a chipboard element; a die cut title; flair button; enamel dots; and something fussy cut. She created a beautiful page of her daughter for her sample using our ‘Wild at Heart’ collection and a cut file from Cut to You.

Oh how we loved the gorgeous rich tones of this collection! It was so nice to see it showcased a couple of times during the weekend by our team.

Next up, we had another LIVE scrap stream into the group, with Tazhi using Gwen’s challenge criteria to create this beautiful page. (Lucky for Tazhi, she had her hubby do all the butterfly fussy cutting for her before she began.) She used our ‘Unforgettable’ collection and created her watercolour style background from her home in New York while we all watched on.

Our final challenge for the weekend was one that was set by Anna Blades, and she challenged everyone to create a monochromatic layout using tones of only one colour (plus black, white and grey were allowed). She used our ‘Bohemian Dream’ collection and decided to focus on the stunning purple from the range and came up with this sample that included soft, subtle mixed media on her background.

Also sharing a sample for our monochromatic challenge was Rachel, who decided pink was going to be her colour of choice and she nailed it! She mixed elements from several of our collections to create a delicate, feminine page. We love the floral cluster she created and the way those hearts draw the eye straight through the photo.

The final layout we have to share comes from Michelle, who also tackled the monochromatic challenge and chose pink as her colour of choice. Michelle decided to mix things up a bit by also combining this challenge with Anna’s heart themed sketch and a sweet photo of her daughter. She chose pink elements from across a variety of collections and pulled them all together to create this darling layout.

Look at how beautifully the different collections combined by choosing a single colour to unite them.

And that wraps up all the INSD inspiration from our awesome team. I am sure you will agree they all created some stunning, and very inspiring work. What a wonderful weekend we all had to celebrate this fabulous craft that we all love. Tomorrow we return to our “regular programming” so stop by and see what Danni has to share.
