Together | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, its Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back again with you.  This month we are creating with sketches, which is something I love to do!  I know some people find it hard to create from a sketch, but I find it a great way to kick start my creative flow.  Last week I put a poll up on the Facebook Group asking for people to vote for which collection I should use.  Storyteller was the winner, and because of this I decided to choose a sketch by co-creator Traci Reed (of Traci Reed Designs).  Here is my layout:

I decided to use Fly Away for my background torn paper strips.  I just love the green colour and the subtle circular patterns. I also fussy cut several butterflies from the other side of the paper to use as embellishments.

I fussy the Love this Life heart from one of the Pocket Life Cards and used it as embellishment.  Then I used lots of florals for the pinwheel shapes on the sketch.  I love how they look through the central white card stock background. I also embellished with more fussy cut butterflies and Puffy Hearts.

I love using the Foam Title Stickers to make an easy title.  I used the word “Together” which was perfect to document Brielle and Ava dressing up and eating watermelon.

Welcome back to the blog CVS friends!

Today I have another layout made with the gorgeous ‘Storyteller’ collection.

For my layout today I wanted to incorporate alot of the patterned papers as a base for my background.

I started with the ‘Oh my Heart’ paper as a base for my page. While this paper is gorgeous, I needed to add something with it to tone down the busyness that would then allow my pictures shine. I decided the subtle yellow paper ‘Little Love’ would be a great addition so decided to add it on an angle …this really add an interesting format to my page.

i have used two pictures of my hubby and I today, both set at a slight angle. I used a small strip of the navy patterned paper from the ‘A5 paper stack’ to ground my photos to the page.

I decided i wanted my title to sit directly under my photo on the left and I used some of the black ‘Foam title stickers’ for this…..LOVE!

I really want to make a focus of the florals on my page so I used a mixture of the florals from the ‘Floral Ephemera’ pack and some fussy cut ones from the ‘Spring Fling’ paper. I put these to the top left and bottom right of my photos and had a few flowing down around my title.

To finish of the bottom of my page I added some of the ‘chipboard pieces’ ….butterflies and hearts for the win! Not to mention some of the ‘puffy stickers’…these hearts are perfect, I could add them to anything! To add some interest above my photos, I used a few of the stickers from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’….perfect sentiments!

Sweet Heart | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, Melissa here and today I have another layout that I created with the gorgeous new Storyteller collection!!  For this layout I really felt like hand stitching so I selected several of the Pocket Cards to stitch over the printed design.  My photos are from Brielle’s 8th birthday in April of this year.

Whenever I use several of the pocket cards I go with a grid design to feature as many cards as possible.  For this layout I chose two cards that were patterned paper to house the photos, and the other four cards feature beautiful design elements that could be further embellished. I used Little Love for my background because I love the beautiful yellow and subtle pattern – perfect for featuring all of the cards. The “Love This” card was calling out for me to hand stitch around it.  I pierced holes around the edge of the words, and then stitched with the full 6 threads of the skein. Simple yet effective.

For the card with lots of adorable hearts, I stitched around the edge of each heart with 3 threads of the skein.  This resulted in a thinner stitches (due to less thread), and I think was more appropriate to the smaller design.

For the card housing my journaling I stitched around the speech bubble in navy blue thread to match the colour on the card.  I love how the stitching looks, and I embellished with a Die Cut Ephemera phrase and a butterfly.

For my title I used two of the Foam Title Stickers and for my embellishment I used several Chipboard Sticker buttons, Die Cut Ephemera Butterflies, and Puffy Heart Stickers.  I love how this finished my layout and I even surprised myself by not adding any mixed media, not even splatters!!

I hope I’ve encouraged you to use the pocket cards and embellish them with stitching!

You are Awesome | Storyteller collection | Kellie Moore

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla blog.

Today I’m sharing my first page using the new ‘Storyteller’ collection and it was so fun and overwhelming to jump into a brand new collection with so many things to choose from ….does anyone else have trouble making decisions when faced with ALL the choices?!

First, I decided on the ‘Cross it off ‘ paper to use as my base…I love a subtle grid for a background.

I decided to use a cutfile for my title so pulled out the A5 paper stack to back the letters….no having to cut into the 12×12 papers!! To help make the white of the cutfile stand out I added another  piece of the ‘Cross it Off’ paper behind it.

To give some dimension, I added foam tape behind my title.

I loved these pics of my son from several years ago being a ham in front of the camera and his clothes were a perfect match for this collection. As they were action shots I decided to cut my photos into silhouettes so they added a fun element to my page. Next I chose a frame the Diecut ephemera pack to add under my sons pic to ground his photo to the page, and stop it look like he was floating.

I love the cameras in this collection and added one between my photos. To add some texture to my camera I added the inside of a ‘Wooden Button’ to the lens… I like the pop of yellow! I also added a sticker from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet.’

Give me all the puffy stickers in a collection, and the hearts and dots in this range wont disappoint you….so fun! I added some either side of my two photos.

Remote Learning Fun | These Days Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, it’s Melissa here and today I’m sharing a layout that I created with the stunning ‘These Days’ collection. My assignment brief was to focus on puffy hearts and puffy stickers.  As we’re currently in lockdown again here in New Zealand I decided to scrapbook some photos from our lockdown in 2020 showing three of the kids doing their online remote learning.

I knew that I wanted to use some of the frames from ‘Wall of Fame’ and I fussy cut three of them.  I cut out the centres of them and put my photos inside.

I was very keen to use the beautiful woodgrain of ‘Pretty Posies’ and tore pieces of ‘Home Grown’ and ‘Take Flight’.  Normally I would use Take Flight for fussy cutting, but I love having a large piece of it on my page.   I hand stitched in matching embroidery thread from my stash.

 

I used the ‘Mini Puffy Alphas’ for my title and the ‘Puffy Stickers’ for embellishing the frames, either side of my title and on the strings holding the frames.  The puffy stickers are so adorable!!

I used the ‘Puffy Hearts’ as feature embellishments on the strings holding frames, and I love how they add a touch of bling.

I added tails onto each frame with beautiful black and white leaves from the ‘Foral Ephemera’.  They were the perfect finishing touch.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my layout.  I don’t have a video this time as things have been very hectic in lockdown trying to balance work and parenting.

Lovely Days | These Days Collection | Danni Visser

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with another layout from the gorgeous new These Days collection. Are you enjoying this one as much as I am? I may have a new favourite collection!

I am documenting a couple of photos of myself and my friends, taken last year when we were beginning to be able to get together again after lots of isolation. You can see how happy we all are to see each other! I have recently purchased a new hexagon punch, so I really wanted to play with using lots of punched out shapes on the page.

I punched out a bunch of hexagons from several of the papers from the 12×12 patterned papers and the A5 paper stack, varying between subtle and busy patterns.  I decided on a white cardstock background to really show up the patterns in the papers.

My idea was to use the hexagons almost as a border around the outside edge of the page. To create some extra interest on the plain background I splattered some soft blue, yellow and pink inks around the outer edge of the layout as well. Then I went ahead and laid out my hexagons, varying the placement to create visual interest.

With the hexagons already making a big statement on the layout, I kept the rest quite simple. I matted my photos with the black and white patterned paper from the A5 paper stack and layered them together in the centre. Then I added a lovely large foam title below – these are such a pretty script font!

I used floral ephemera and puffy stickers to create two floral clusters either side of my photos. I included some of the coffee cup die cut ephemera – very appropriate for a café catch up. I used some accessory stickers to tuck in little words and tabs around the edges.

Three of the butterfly die cut ephemera and the beautiful sparkly puffy hearts sprinkled around the page made the perfect finishing touches on this layout. Everything in this collection is so stunning it makes layouts come together so easily and beautifully! I hope you enjoyed joining me today. Happy scrapping!

Cherish These Days | These Days Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello!! It’s Melissa here and I’m super excited to be here with you today sharing my first layout with the beautiful new ‘These Days’ collection.  My assignment was to use the ‘A5 Paper Stack’ and the ‘Pocket Cards’, and of course I just had to use These Days!!  I decided to scrapbook three cute photos of Ava that I took outside the bigger girls school.

I just had to use the gorgeous ‘Daybreak’ patterned paper as my background, and I selected the B side.  This paper is so stunning you’ll want to get serval of it!! I added some light mixed media with gel crayons, but then of course I covered most of it up!! I chose three of the ‘Pocket Cards’, and honestly it was difficult to choose, especially as they are double sided.

I distressed the edges of two of the cards, and popped them up on foam for dimension.  The title card was perfect for my title.  For the third card, I cut it in half and then fussy cut around the painted stripes and used it as embellishment above and below my photos.  I love how it looks!!

I used two torn pieces of paper from the ‘A5 Paper Stack’ to provide extra layers behind the cards and to provide texture.

For my embellishment I used butterflies and floral clusters from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera’, ‘Clear Stickers’, a ‘Puffy Heart’, and a couple of ‘Puffy Stickers’.  I didn’t need much else because I felt that the background paper, torn paper strips and pocket cards did most of the work for me!

I finished off my page with some splatters in black and dark gold.  I hope you enjoyed seeing my first layout with These Days!

My Sunshine | Daydream Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello everyone its Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back with you again, this time sharing a new layout with the gorgeous Daydream collection!! For this layout I really wanted to attempt creating a layout with the B side of ‘STEPPING STONES’ as I’d had an idea for machine stitching in matching colours.  I needed a happy fun photo, and this recent photo of Brielle was perfect!

I tore a piece of the patterned paper, and made sure that the top edge was torn as well.  Then I went to town with uneven stitching in matching colours, back and forth on each stipe until I got the effect I wanted.  Did you know I’ve only recently started machine stitching in coloured threads?

I also did lots of fussy cutting.  I cut one of the floral clusters from ‘GARDEN VARIETY’ a placed it at the bottom of my photo.  I used a couple of papers from the ‘6 x 8 PAPER STACK’ to back my photo, and tucked one of the beautiful ‘PUFFY HEARTS’ to the right of my floral cluster.

I also fussy cut lots of moths and butterflies from ‘ALL AFLUTTER’ to use as embellishments.  I adhered them in positions that colour matched the thread and stripes. 

For my title two of the ‘DIE CUT TITLES’ were perfect, and I placed elements on and around the ‘Sunshine’.  I used a floral cluster sticker from the ‘ACCESSORY STICKERS’.

I finished with my journaling, splatters and some sequins from the ‘SEQUINS & FLOWERS’ pack.

This Sweet Life | Day Dream | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends Rachel here and I have a pretty layout to share using the beautiful new Day Dream collection.

Not being a mixed media girl I love papers that have done all the work for you! I love how beautiful the SWEET SERENITY paper and it gives you that water colour mixed effect to your layout.

I am scrapping a photo of my DD and have used a fab new cut file by Paige Evans available in the Silhouette Design store. Who doesn’t love an embroidery hoop!

I used DAISY DAYS and SUN SHOWER papers to paper piece the embroidery hoop cut file. I then used foam tape to adhere my photo.

I hand stitched the thread of the cut file to add texture and so it made the embroidery hoop appear more authentic.

I just had to add one of the PUFFY HEARTS because I love them!!! I decided on my title taking the SWEET and LIFE words from the DIE CUT TITLES.

Using the DIE CUT EPHEMERA pack I created two embellishment clusters, one to the right of my photo overlapping the embroidery hoop and the second at the top of the hoop. I layered die cut florals, phrase sentiments and moths, foam tapping some to add dimension.

I tucked a die cut rainbow behind the LIFE word and finished off adding some NUVO clear crystal jewel drops to create shadows on flower petals and leaves, and moths wings.

I really don’t think this layout would have so much visual interest if I used a white background and I certainly enjoyed working with a background paper that didn’t need a thing doing to it!

Family Time | Daydream collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project using the amazing ‘Daydream’ collection. If you haven’t had a chance to create with this range yet, then do yourself a favour and make sure you check with your favourite retailer to see if they have it in stock – it is so gorgeous!

For this page, I decided to document a photo that I took a few months ago when some of my family got together to celebrate my boys 8th birthday. I began with a sheet of white cardstock and used inks to add  some subtle layered watercolour detail to the background.

Next, I layered some pieces of the Sun Shower; All Aflutter; Stepping Stones; and Up in the Clouds papers to form the mat for my photo. I then added some frayed gauze for texture and some scrap cardboard under my photo to pop it up from the page.

Once I had the photo in place it was time for some embellishments. I had the gorgeous floral print Garden Variety paper and my scissors at the ready to get cutting. I fussy cut several larger floral pieces and a few loose flowers, then tucked them in amongst the different paper layers around my photo. To give the flowers extra dimension, I bent up some of the petals and leaves, and used foam tape under some of the pieces.

To the left of my photo I added the flair button which read the good life from the Flair Button pack and a small blue heart from the Die Cut Ephemera pack directly onto the edge of my photo.
I couldn’t resist adding one of the adorable Puffy Hearts to my page, so I tucked a green one in amongst the flowers above my photo, which coordinated perfectly with where the green ink was on the background.

I created a small cluster in the top right corner of my photo using a few small stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet, then added a butterfly from the Die Cut Ephemera pack nearby.

I chose the words family time from the Die Cut Titles pack for my page title and completed my title cluster with a die cut rainbow and heart.

As a finishing touch I scattered a few sequins around the page from the Sequins and Flowers pack and a little handwritten journalling.

I will be back again with another share in two weeks time. Until then, happy scrapping!
