Ho Ho Ho | Joyful Collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout using the ever-beautiful Joyful collection. This is my all-time-favourite Christmas collection! I absolutely love the colours, and the embellishments are so sweet – especially those cute little woodland creatures! I documented a couple of photos from last Christmas of my youngest daughter and my Mum.

I started my layout off with the Deck the Halls patterned paper as my background. I then cut a 6 inch circle out of the same paper, this time using the reverse side, and adhered the circle to the centre of my page. This provided a focal point on the page for me to build my layers on top of. I printed my photos at 3×4 inches and matted them with a paper from the A5 Paper Stack. I positioned the photos, along with a Pocket Card across the middle of the page, adhering them at an angle to give them a fun and whimsical look.

I created two embellishment clusters on the layout, positioned diagonally from one another in order to keep the layout feeling balanced, and to draw the viewer’s eye through the photos. The first was positioned below the photo on the left, and it includes a fussy cut floral cluster, as well as a cute deer, a present and a banner, all from the Die Cut Ephemera pack. I adhered the deer with foam tape to help it to pop off the page, and to give the cluster some extra dimension and interest.

For the second embellishment cluster, I used another fussy cut floral, as well as a Die Cut bird and a Chipboard banner. As in the first cluster, I also added a Wood Epoxy Button to the centre of the flower. Here you can also see the Die Cut phrase – Ho Ho Ho – that I used as the title for my layout.

To finish the layout off, I added a few Gold Puffy Stars around the page.

My Sunshine | Daydream Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends! Today I am sharing a layout created using the gorgeous Daydream collection. My stash is running low and that makes me sad because it is one of my fav collections. On the bright side I am scrapping the cutest puppy ever!

As most of you know I am a huge fan of rainbows and I fell in love with this cut file one available from the Silhouette Design store. As the colours of Daydream are muted I decided to cut the file in black to provide a stark contrast. I cut my white cardstock down to 10×10 inches, splashed with black paint and then machine stitched onto the base paper cresting a larger border.

I added the rainbow strips using a large and small floral, then a block colour piece. I added the heart paper pieces using the lightest colour to balance out the colours and patterns.

I next added my photo and used a wood grain photo frame die cut. I fussy cut some smaller flowers and added to the bottom of the frame. I added the sun sticker from the accessory sticker sheet tucking it under my frame and finished off adding a phrase sentiment tab and butterfly die cut. All of this draws your eye to the photo.

I next created my title using a die cut title word and also words from the accessory sticker sheet. I added the title die cut with foam tape to add dimension and added over the hearts at the bottom of the rainbow die cut.

I created a journalling block fussy cutting out of one of the pocket cards from the collection. I cut it straight and attached under the white cardstock as I forgot to add before I added the black machine stitching! I had to add a fabric Puffy Heart just because I love them.

Lastly I added a floral cluster to the right top side of the rainbow, slightly tucking them under and then finished off with another butterfly added with foam tape. I am so glad I went with the black accents as I think it really gives this layout a bit of a wow factor.

Love This | Storyteller | Lina Monaco

Lina here with you today with a sketch and my take on it. I used the Storyteller collection to document this photo of my oldest daughter and myself from this current summer! Autumn is on it’s way here in the Northern Hemisphere and as much as I love the fall, I’m not quite ready for summer to be over. So what better way to enjoy it than by scrapbooking a photo from it. Well, that’s my theory anyway.



The sketch I used is from Citrus Twist Kits and I really like the composition of it… it’s totally my style. Of course I tweaked it a bit to make it my own but for the most part, I stayed true to the sketch.
I began my layout with my first change and that was to use a 12×12 sheet of white paper. It’s the size I most enjoy creating my layouts with so why change it? I used some TH Distress Inks and a blending tool and pulled some varying shades of blues and greens to create the background you see. I sprinkled some water (just a bit) as not to distort my paper, let it sit for about a minute and then wiped it off with a clean paper towel. You can see that the water lifts the ink and creates a reverse splatter. Fun!


Next, I played with paper from the A5 Paper Stack to matte my black and white photo. I used a few different sheets to create a layered effect. I popped it up on dimensional foam and adhered it down using my hot glue gun. I also used a Pocket Card and adhered that down, on a slight angle, right next to my photo.


The sketch showed some cut strips of paper and I added the same. I cut mine on a slight angle and stuck them down slightly on top of each other. The papers I used are strips cut from full size 12×12 sheets of paper; Little Love and Cross It Off. I just adore the balance and grounding these few strips give to the layout.


Next, I embellished! I used pieces from the Floral Ephemera and the Die Cut Ephemera and created floral clusters around my photo and Pocket Card. I also used the small typed phrases from the Accessory Stickers to add sentiment to my layout… plus, I just love the look. I think I used them in every layout! They’re just my fave! I also added some gold thread behind the further most back layer of my photo to add something different and texture. Finally, I added some yellow Puffy Stickers and some gold metallic spray splatters to finish off my layout.
This layout came together super quick and easy and I just adore how it turned out!

So Sweet | Storyteller collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. This month we are focusing on the reason we all scrapbook, and that is telling stories. For today’s layout I decided to document the story of my son and his friend. These two have known each other since they were babies, and it is so lovely to see that their friendship has lasted. I decided to use the gorgeous Storyteller collection for my page, and kept my photo black and white so that it wouldn’t clash with any of the colours of the collection.

I began my layout by creating a mixed media background, using a combination of pale peach acrylic paint and ‘Prize Ribbon’ Distress Oxide ink. I applied the acrylic paint with a brayer over an area approximately half of my page, leaving a white border around the edge. I really love the effect the brayer creates, and it also helps the paint to dry fast because the coat is so thin. On the other half of the page I applied the Distress Oxide by mixing it with water and using a wide brush, before setting it aside to dry. I love the contrast using two different mediums give the page – both from the colours and the effect of the different techniques.

Whilst my background was drying, I turned my attention to the paper component of my page. I cut a piece of the vibrant Oh My Heart paper to sit horizontally across my page where the paint and ink met. This provided separation between the lighter colour at the top and the darker colour at the bottom. I also added a very thin strip of the green pattern on the the reverse of the Fly Away paper behind where I planned to sit my photo. My photo was matted with a blue paper from the A5 Paper Stack, and I also tucked in a small yellow doily and some frayed gauze underneath it. In the top right corner of my photo I added the so happy banner sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

Alongside my photo, I added one of the Pocket Cards which featured a coordinating strip of coloured hearts, and I used my typewriter to add my journalling to it. I then topped the card with the the story behind the photo die cut from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, which was mounted on some foam tape to help it stand out. Along the bottom edge of the card I added another die cut, this time a small banner which read happy little moments, that was also mounted on some foam tape. A Wood Epoxy Button with a sweet little camera completed my cluster on that side of the page.

 

Near the top edge of the page along the border of my paint, I added a second strip of the Oh My Heart paper, which I used as the anchor for another embellishment cluster. This one featured two die cuts – a camera and a floral piece, which were both adhered using foam tape. I also added another Wood Epoxy Button, this time the smaller size, over the lens of the camera. Alongside that was the noteworthy banner piece from the Chipboard Stickers sheet.

Below my photo I added yet another piece from the ephemera pack – a beautiful strip of bunting which provided a lovely underscore for my photo. This was also popped up on foam tape to ensure it sat up at the same height as my photo.

At the bottom of the page I added the words So Sweet from the Foam Title Stickers pack to form my page title, and a small foam heart from the same pack nearby. I finished embellishing my page by adding three butterflies from the ephemera pack and then last of all I added some small black ink splatters to tie it all together.

I am so happy I documented this story of friendship for my son and I know this layout will mean so much more to him with my words included on it than if it was just another pretty page. I know we can all be guilty of not including enough journalling on our layouts from time to time, so hope you are feeling inspired to get a story told on your next page.

Smile | Storyteller collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am very excited to be sharing my first layout featuring the stunning new Storyteller collection! This collection is absolutely gorgeous and so versatile for any themed projects and layouts you want to document your memories with! I absolutely LOVE anything with hearts so the 12′ x 12′ patterned papers with the hearts on them would have to be my favourite!

As soon as I saw the rainbow striped paper, I knew I wanted to use this paper for my first layout. I decided to cut the coloured strips up and placed them all but one, onto a sheet of plain white cardstock. I adhered them down and then bent the edges of all of them with my fingers to create some texture. I left one of the coloured strips out as I wanted to leave some space in between each coloured paper.

I placed my photo slightly to the right of the page using craft foam to add dimension. I layered some papers from the A5 paper stack underneath the photo and distressed the edges slightly to add some texture and to help make the photo pop! I searched through the pocket cards and found the perfect one to suit the photo of my son as photographer! I used craft foam to adhere the pocket card to the left of the photo. When I am placing elements on my page and I am not 100% certain about their position, I will mostly always only use a very small amount of adhesive in case I need to reposition anything or add an extra layer underneath. Once I am happy with where everything ends up on my layout, I add extra adhesive for reinforcement.

Now I have the main focus of the layout sorted out, next I added a title. I went through the gorgeous black Foam Titles and chose the word ‘Smile’. I placed this word at the bottom of the pocket card to help tie the photo, pocket card and title together. At either end of the photo and pocket card, I tucked in some pretty flower ephemera pieces, I also added the little piece that says ‘Snap Happy’ to the right of my photo.

On top of my photo, I adhered the ephemera piece that says, ‘The Story Behind the Photo’ and also a small phrase sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet in the top right corner. I also added some more of the phrase stickers above the photo and below the photo, these are great additions to a page to help tell a story! Above the pocket card, I added the camera die-cut using craft foam. From this point, I decided to add my embellishments in a tone on tone look…I took some of the super cute heart die-cuts, enamel hearts and wood epoxy buttons and placed them on their corresponding colours.

Rad Times | No Limits | Kellie Moore

Hello CVS fans and welcome back to the blog!

I am so excited to announce that I am now a full time design team member of the Cocoa Vanilla Studio design time and I am so blessed with this opportunity.

For today’s layout I am again playing with ‘No Limits’….I seriously can not get enough of this collection.

I am documenting a story of my son being in isolation recently when he was unwell. I wanted to highlight his headphones so I used a cut file to tell that part of the story and backed them with a bunch of the different patterned papers, both from the 12 x12 papers and the A5 paper stack.

I love the hand icon in the No Limits range so I cut this one from one of the Pocket Cards and added my title using the Die Cut Titles.

I loved cutting apart the ‘Nebula’ paper so I could use ALL.THE.STARS on my pages. I added these around my page to draw the attention to my photo.

I also used some of the Wood Epoxy Stickers and Puffy Stickers…..who doesn’t love these?!

I have been trying to get better at adding journalling to all of my pages….this time I cut down a pocket card to add next to my photo. These cards are so versatile and can be used in so many different ways…don’t be afraid to cut them up!

I hope you have been inspired by my page today. Keep creating and documenting those memories.

You Love This | No Limits collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. For today’s post I was assigned with showcasing the A5 Paper Stack and Pocket Cards from the new ‘No Limits’ collection so I decided to create a pocket page. If you have been keeping up with my recent creations, you will already know that I have been making a concerted effort to create more pocket pages this year to go alongside my traditional 12×12″ layouts in my albums. This is so I can get more photos and details recorded, but still have the freedom to be artistic on my 12×12″ pages. So far, the balance has been working well and I intend on keeping it up. (So yes, there is a traditional layout that goes with this pocket page but for today I am just sharing the pocket page.)

The subject of this page is my son’s current love of soccer. As a result, I have a lot of photos that I have taken of him that look very similar. (If you are a fellow sporting mum, I am sure you can relate.) Documenting sports photos is a topic that I discuss in my process video for this layout, and I have some tips for creating pages with them.

I have included some close up images of my layout below so you can get a better look at how it is constructed.

Adding embellishments directly to my photos is something I usually do on my traditional layouts, but it is a technique that works especially well on pocket pages. I like for there to be a lot to look at as the viewer’s eye travels around the page.

I used one of the papers from the A5 Paper Stack cut down to 4×6″ as the base for my title card, then several Pocket Cards and a piece from the 12×12″ cut apart paper to fill the remaining spaces.

I used my typewriter to type my journalling directly onto the Pocket Cards. (It has a few quirks and it never looks perfect, but I love it – it has personality!)

The embellishments I used were a mix of Die Cut Ephemera pieces; Accessory Stickers; Puffy Stickers and a few fussy cut pieces.

Totally Epic | No Limits Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, I’m so happy to be back sharing another creation with the amazing new No Limits collection!! I decided to document my teen son’s first day of school photos for 2022, and yes he gave me full permission to share these photos yay!  For layout I’m using one of my favourite papers from the collection called Eclipse.  The B side is a cut apart sheet which I just had to use as a full sheet because I love how the patterns look together!

I decided to create a pocket-style page, but without the pockets. In order to break up the different rectangles I machine stitched in black thread intentionally uneven.  I stitched two rows close together along each of the lines.

I had taken three photos of Sam at home before he walked to school.  I loved that I was able to use them all, and backed each of them with papers from the A5 Paper Stack.  Rather than stick within the confines of each rectangle, I decided to add interest by going over the lines.

I embellished with a mix of Die Cut Ephemera, Accessory Stickers, Chipboard Stickers, Wood Buttons, and Puffy Stickers.  I had so much fun deciding what to put where!

For my journaling I used a Pocket Card (which I fussy cut shown in the photo above) and a journaling spot from the Die Cut Ephemera.  I added black machine stitching on them for extra interest and texture.

For my title I used a word from the Die Cut Titles paired with a word from the Chipboard Stickers. I love the two different textures together.

Sweet You | These Days collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout with you! This week on the blog, the design team have been tasked with scraplifting themselves. This was a fun assignment, and I have to say, I really enjoyed looking back at past projects that I’ve created using the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections. I decided to recreate a layout I made back in 2018 using the gorgeous Bohemian Dream collection…

For my new project, I chose to use the lovely These Days collection to document a recent photo of my eldest daughter…

When creating my new layout I stuck very close to the design of my original layout, making use of the 3×4 inch Pocket Cards to create a grid. As with my original layout, I added multiple layers behind each section of the grid and adhered them at a slight angle to give the layout lots of interest and depth. I decided on using the beautiful Daybreak paper as my background and I love the soft mixed media look that this adds to the page.

Using my original layout as a guide again, I added my photo to the top right section of the grid. I layered a Pocket Card, as well as a paper from the A5 Paper Stack behind the photo, and then adhered it using craft foam for added dimension. As on the the original layout, I added some embellishing to the right of the photo, including some Die Cuts as well as a beautiful Gold Glitter Puffy Heart. I also added a couple of little flowers that I fussy cut out of one of the A5 papers. In choosing the embellishments for this page, I really wanted to include some icons and images that had relevance to my daughter. I therefore decided to include the mug, to signify her love of tea, and the typewriter, because she’s an amazingly talented creative writer. I like to include little things like that on my pages, that are significant to the person I’m creating the layout about.

For my title I decided on using the phrase ‘Sweet you’ from the beautiful Foam Title Stickers. I added this underneath my photo, in the same place where I’d included the wood veneer word on the original layout. I adore the lovely scripty font, and the dark title helps to balance out the darkness in the background of the photo.

I added another embellishment cluster to the pocket card in the bottom left section of the grid, creating a diagonal flow from the cluster in the top right. Again I used my original page as a guide, which made the whole process very easy! In this cluster I included some more Die Cuts and Floral Ephemera, as well as another Gold Glitter Puffy Heart. Of course I had to include that cute stack of books to signify my daughter’s love of reading. I also used the sweet Mini Puffy Alpha Stickers as part of my journaling on this Pocket Card.

To finish the layout off, I added a couple of butterflies, which were fussy cut from an A5 Paper, and a sprinkling of enamel dots from the Legendary collection.

Have you tried scraplifting yourself? I really enjoyed recreating a layout that I’d previously made, and recommend giving it a go next time you’re looking for some inspiration!
