Beautiful Moments | Throwback Thursday Midnight Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there! Danni here with today’s Throwback Thursday inspiration featuring the gorgeous Midnight collection. I adored this collection so much that I have been hoarding a lot of it, so it felt great to put it to good use.

The Sunset Strip 12×12 patterned paper has always reminded me of a sunset, so it was perfect for a background of this landscape sunset photo I took in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I had cut the floral circle cutfile for another layout, and the negative interior pieces looked so pretty on the cutting mat that I could not bear to bin them, so I carefully glued them to the background paper. It looked so lovely with the patterned paper peeking through!

Next, I used some inks and mists to add some purple, pink and gold splatters to the background. This helps tone down the stark white of the cutfile and adds some interest to the background. I used the Shine Bright 12×12 pink gradient patterned paper to back my photo and built some horizontal layers behind it with plain vellum and the woodgrain side of Shine Bright 12×12 paper to give my photo a natural ‘resting place’.

I made sure to line up the horizon in my photo with the colour change gradient in the background paper – this makes the page look cohesive and really enhances that sunset illusion.The Beautiful Moments title from the chipboard pieces fit perfectly around my photo and was the perfect sentiment for this layout. I used a tab from the die cut ephemera and some tiny words from the accessory stickers to supplement my main title.

Even though I want to hoard them forever, I placed some of the gorgeous die cut ephemera floral peonies and leaves in clusters either side of my photo, then added a pretty butterfly from the accessory stickers on the centre of one of the cutfile flowers, making sure to pop the wings up on dimensional foam – one of my absolute favourite techniques.

Finally, I added a few enamel dots from my stash in matching colours to finish off the layout. This whole layout was very quick to come together, even though it looks very full with plenty of detail – making an interesting background meant I could keep my embellishments minimal while still having a very impactful layout.

6’th grade | Mixed collections Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Cocoa Vanilla maniacs. I have a pleasure to open a RAINBOW LOVE week over the CVS blog. I bet you can imagine my excitement when I saw this theme. I am hudge rainbow fan and I love mixing and matching many collections in one project. I ended up with very energetic page documenting first day of a brand new school year of my older daughter. She is already a sixth grader so it means only two more years before she will finish elementary school and move to high school. I am totally not ready for that moment.

I started making this page with a white watercolor paper sheet. I picked six Distress Oxide ink colors and made a rainbow rays with them, starting in the middle of the page. It’s a really easy and simple process. You can easily replace Oxides with any other inks. They just need to blend easily. After I applied the colors, I sprinkled everything with clean water to create few splatters. Ink reacted with water fading away which added some great texture to the background.

Next step was picking six papers in corresponding colors to layer them over mixed media background. I went through my CVS stash and picked orange and yellow papers from “Legendary”, green and blue from “Boys rule”, pink from “Happiness” and purple from “Bohemian dream”. I run them through my Silhouette Cameo and cut simple arrows in different sizes in each color.

I glued them over the backgroun color on color. Last step was to place the photo with some embellishments around it. This time I gathered 6*12 sticker sheet from many older and newer collections and picked few labels and tabs to add them under the photo. I didn’t want to cover too much of my background.

I went through my collection of enamel dots, also from the previous collections, and placed few of them between the arrows, also color on color.

It was such an easy and fun page to make. I can never say “no” to all those juicy colors. If you want to learn how it was done, you can watch a process video I recorded for you.

UNIQUE | HAPPINESS | Sophie Delorme

Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends ! It’s Sophie here today and I am sharing a bright and colourful layout with you !

 

I created my page with the GORGEOUS Happiness Collection. I only have a few scraps of it left, but you will see with this page that even a little can go a long way !!

 

 

I chose a photo of my little Sabrina playing in the park where we had a picnic a few weeks ago. It was a radiant sunny day, and I wanted to highlight this moment with the bright colors of the Happiness collection.

 

I started with a thick white cardstock as my background. I added some powder inks diluted in water to create a big blue and aqua area on my layout where I planned to put my photo and embellishments. I used the packaging technique and added numerous splatters of ink on the cardstock.

 

I let it dry completely. In the mean time, I cut a beautiful flower cut file from Just Nick Studio on a white cardstock and backed it with different papers of the Happiness collection, mainly the Botanical Bliss paper, the Frame of Mind paper, the Expressive paper and the Good Vibes paper. I put adhesive foam behind the cut file before adhering it to pe page.

 

 

I also backed my photo with tissue paper (as I always do..!) and adhesive foam, and two layers of patterned papers (Good Vibes and Expressive papers).

 

 

I added a few leaves on my flower cut file, a little black wreath and two beautiful butterflies on the left side of my photo. They all come from the Happiness Die Cut Ephemera pack.

 

 

My title is a word from the Die Cut Titles pack. “Unique” couldn’t be a better word to describe my sweet girl who is always full of joy…!

 

I also created a little cluster on the top right of the layout where I added ephemeras and a few stickers from the Happiness Clear Sticker sheets for a pop of color and more dimension. It creates a diagonal design that guides the eye through the page.

 

 

I finally wrote dawn my journaling and added the date.

 

I am so happy of the end-result ! It screams summer to me and it is much needed, as fall is slowly coming and the days get colder and darker quite fast, at least here in Canada !

Lovely You | Daydream Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there lovely Cocoa Vanilla fans! Today I am up with a fussy cutting, mixed media fest using the stunning new Daydream collection and some photos from my beautiful daughter’s first birthday.

When I first saw this collection, I knew I would be whipping out my scissors right away and getting stuck in to fussy cutting those gorgeous patterned papers, and the floral wreath in Daisy Days 12×12 paper immediately caught my eye. I used my precision scissors and a craft knife to cut out the wreath and cut away most of those tiny inside sections to add a feeling of real depth and dimension.

I knew I wanted to fill out the wreath with some extra foliage, so I used my manual die cutting machine and metal dies to cut a bunch of extra leaves from Garden Variety and Up in the Clouds patterned papers.  I also cut a border from the same Garden Variety paper and added it behind some white mixed media cardstock to make the base for my background.

I went ahead with making my mixed media background by laying down some paints in a circular shape where my wreath would go. I used a combination of watered-down acrylic paints and distress oxide sprays in complimentary colours, adding them onto some plastic packaging and smooshing them onto the cardstock. I also added some splatters all the way around with a paintbrush.

Before I adhered my wreath down, I added some adhesive foam to the edges so all the little leaves and flowers would lift up from the page and look extra three dimensional. I then glued my wreath down and filled in any spaces with the leaves I die cut earlier. I tucked my two photos under the right inside edge of the wreath, then added my title “Lovely You” from the die cut titles to the left of my photos in the remaining space. I used three of the sweet little moths from the die cut ephemera around the wreath, popping their wings up with more adhesive foam to bring them to life.

I filled in the gaps on the inside of the wreath and beside my photos with some floral and tab stickers from the accessory stickers, and popped in some tiny word stickers below the title.

Lastly I used a bunch of the beautiful sequins from the new sequins & flowers pack to fill in all the gaps and spaces all the way around my wreath, adding lots of pretty sparkly details. These sequins are one of my favourite items from the new collection, I have used so many I will need to order a new pack very soon!

Happy Moments | Daydream Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello hello!! Its Melissa here and I’m sooooo super excited to be sharing my first layout with the breathtakingly gorgeous new ‘Daydream’ collection!! This collection is so beautiful that its almost hard to cut into, part of me just wants to frame the papers!!

I’ve been in the mood for fussy cutting lately, especially florals.  For this layout featuring my youngest daughter Ava, last summer, I cut apart the wreath design on ‘DAISY DAYS’ and decided to do one of my favourite techniques with a printed wreath which is to deconstruct and then reconstruct in a different configuration.   I love the look of partial wreaths and the fussy cutting enabled me to layer and lift the leaves and flowers.

For this layout I did what I’d call ‘extreme’ fussy cutting, and even used a craft knife to remove as much of the white background as possible.  It took me several evenings watching movies on Netflix to get it done bit by bit, and it was so worth it. Here is a close up of my cutting with my small scissors to show the scale.

I used ‘SWEET SERENITY’ for my background, I just love adding subtle mixed media to papers like this one.  I also fussy cut some of the moths and a butterfly from ‘ALL AFLUTTER’ and used dimensional foam behind their wings for extra lift.

Of course I had to use a rainbow, and this gorgeous one is from the ‘DIE CUT EPHEMERA’ pack.  The sweet little yellow heart and phrase on my photo are from the ‘ACCESSORY STICKERS’ sheet.

I also added some cut file leaves that I painted with my watercolours to add to my partial wreaths. The sequins are from the ‘SEQUINS & FLOWERS’ pack.

My title is from the ‘DIE CUT EPHEMERA’ pack and ‘DIE CUT TITLES’ pack. I just love how the two words work so well together to tie in the entire layout, because eating an ice cream in the summer sunshine is definitely one of life’s Happy Moments!

Hello Boy | Legendary Collection | Anna Blades

Hey everyone! It’s Anna here, sharing this monochromatic layout with you today, featuring the Legendary collection. Two months ago my sister had a baby boy, and we are very happy because is the first boy in the family!! My parents have two girls (me and my little sister) and I also have two daughters. So, at last, we can say “hello boy!”. For this layout, I was inspired by the stars in the picture.

First, I used the distress oxide inks and the plastic technique to make my background in a watercolor 12×12 sheet. I did it with different shades of blue and also add some splatters. I wanted it to look like a sky.

I spread some stars diagonally, from top to bottom of the page. I took them from the Die Cut Ephemera, the Clear Stickers, and also fussy cut some stars from the All Star paper. I put foam dots behind a few stars to add more dimension. In between the stars, I also glued some enamel dots.

On top of the page, I stacked two strips from the Offbeat and Epic Tales papers. I cut the Offbeat paper a little bit crooked, and I used a stamp with white ink to simulate a machine stitching. It’s subtle but I think it gives an extra touch (and I didn’t feel like taking out the sewing machine).

For my title, I used two words from the Die Cut Titles which I raised with foam dots and a phrase from the Clear Stickers. I embellished it with a die cut star and a flair button that matched perfectly with the color and the stars. I don’t usually write journaling on my layouts, but this time I did it. Below it, I placed another die cut that says “legendary”.

With the All Star paper I matted my picture. Behind it, I put some tissue paper too and foam to raise it up. Two more die cuts and another one for layering, and that’s it!!

Once in a while I enjoy making a monochromatic layout, it’s kinda challenging for me. I hope you like it and thank you so much for stopping by today!

Happy Heart | Bohemian Dream | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends, Rachel here! Today I have a fun layout using lots of colour and busy patterns which if done in a balanced way and with a white (or black) contrast totally work. I have used Bohemian Dream collection. I cut a piece of white cardstock to 10×10 inches. I added some turquoise paint brush strokes randomly across the page and splattered lightly with some black paint (this is as messy as I can get lol). I then added messy machine stitching in a turquoise colour. I also tore some of the white cardstock edges for texture.I attached this to the stunning Abundant paper as a stunning border. I used two floral cut files from the Silhouette Design to add to the sides of my pages. I used another busy paper Flower Child  to paper back these, which you can do as they have the white background paper to contrast.I love using the Accessory Stickers to create my journalling which I usually tuck into embellishment cluster.I added my photo using s die cut frame and then added more florals to either side and finished off adding some phrase banners under my photo and not forgetting a gorgeous butterfly which I had to add because the colour was perfect! I also added my photo with foam tape which I always do when I am using a smaller photo so it has dimension.Lastly I added my title using a die cut and accessory sticker words, I love the contrast between big and small in a title. I went back and added some enamel dots to add more texture.This layout would be perfect for a teenage girl themed layout, it’s modern, bright, bold and lots of fun!Thank you so much for stopping by today and I am so excited to share my first layout using the stunning Day Dream collection, so see you all soon. Best Buddies | Legendary Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with a bright and happy outdoors themed layout to share with you, using none other than the Legendary collection. This collection has just been absolutely perfect to get all those outdoor adventures documented! This time I have created a multi-photo layout to document my son and his little friend’s sandpit adventures.

I based my layout around this fab sunny sky background cut file, which I cut on a dark blue cardstock on my electronic cutting machine. I knew I wanted to use a light background and I knew the blue would really pop, plus I just love using coloured cardstock! I backed the suns and rainbows in the cut file using patterned papers Total Legend cut apart side and Wild One.

I then decided I wanted to play with some vellum and art media for the clouds. I took some plain vellum, then an iridescent gel medium which I applied first with a paintbrush, then a sponge (I did not find much difference either way) to turn my vellum into a shimmery metallic translucent finish. I love this effect! It was so easy and looks so pretty. Once the vellum dried, I used it to back all the clouds in the cut file.

Next my background. I chose Epic Tales patterned paper for a lovely light bright base, then added a border of Total Legend patterned paper to pull in some of the bright blue from the photos. To avoid the vellum looking invisible on the white background, I spritzed some light blue mist onto the paper roughly in the places the clouds would go. I also added some burnt orange ink splatters for a contrasting colour.

I added some simple photo mats using Wild One and One Way patterned papers and arranged my photos in a diagonal line across the page. My title was easy thanks to the die cut titles – I simply chose ‘Best Buddies’ and added the titles either side of my photo line. So simple!

I chose some of the tags, tickets and banners from the die cut ephemera and the accessory stickers to embellish around the top and bottom photos, keeping to that diagonal layout. I added my journaling and date on label stickers, then used my very last enamel dots to add some detail to the corners of the photos. I don’t know about you, but it feels so good to use up the last few bits of a scrappy supply – luckily, I have a backup packet!

Happy | Happiness Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there! Danni here with a soft and subtle mixed media layout using the stunningly pretty Happiness collection. I still adore all the bright happy colours in this collection and I had so much fun dipping back into it. The colours were a perfect match for the blue floral dress I am wearing in this photo.

I started with the lovely Sprinkles 12×12 patterned paper as a background because it already has that mixed media effect . I applied some iridescent gel medium in a diagonal across my page; this is a really fun medium to play with that adds a beautiful pearlescent finish. While it was still wet, I added some colour with distress oxide ink pads and sprays in a variety of blue and pink shades, using both a paintbrush for splattering and spraying directly onto the paper.

While that mixed media dried I took some butterfly die cuts I had lying around and traced them onto patterned papers, fussy cut those shapes out then glued them together along the centre of the butterfly body, leaving the rest of the shape free to add dimension.

I backed my photo with patterned paper as well as some white crepe paper ruffle along the sides for lots of lovely texture. I popped my photo right in the centre of my page and added the butterflies along that diagonal line of the mixed media. I filled in the gaps with the beautiful little butterflies fussy cut from Bright & Beautiful 12×12 patterned paper, bending them in the middle and only gluing down the centre to make it seem as if they are flying off the page!

I added a few florals and leaves from the die cut ephemera either side of my photo and a simple “happy” title from the die cut titles. I adore the script font of these, it is just so pretty! I went ahead and added several tiny word phrases and another butterfly from the accessory stickers and added a few lines of simple journaling on strips of white cardstock above my photo.

To finish off the layout I added a sprinkling of gold ink; you can never have too much sparkle in my opinion! There is a process video linked below if you would like to watch me talk through the process. Thank you so much for joining me today.

SWEET MEMORIES | WILD AT HEART | GWEN WRUCK

Hey Creatives! I hope you are all well. Gwen up on the blog with you today sharing and I’ve dug deep into my stash for this share, using the ‘Wild at Heart’ collection. I paired it with this happy snap of Miss C and myself which was taken a while back while we were just hanging out. I love these pics, so fun and so ‘us’ and they work so well with this sweet collection.

For this page, I was really inspired to use up some of the ‘Chipboard Frames’ from the collection. I had an unopened pack in my stash so pulled them out and set out a plan to layer them onto my page. I just mixed and matched them with my photo until I was happy. At this point nothing is stuck down, I just needed to get an idea of where everything was going to go.

Next, I went about backing my photo. For this, I’ve used the ‘Memento‘ paper and ‘Luscious’ paper, I’ve also added my signature stitching here. I’ve then gone ahead and recreated my design with the photo and the chipboard. Once I was happy with the position of everything, I’ve glued the frames to the photo (not the background) so that everything is in one piece and easy for me to move around.

Now it was time to work on my mixed media background. I’m going for a subtle look here and used some mixed media shimmery spray and the packaging technique, not fussing with it too much, just letting the spray drip a little and move around the page, then set it aside to dry. Once dry, I’ve added my photo and frame pieces on top.

Before sticking everything down, I’ve added in a large die-cut doily from the ‘Ephemera Pack’ to the right of my photo as well as a tag from this same pack, sticking out the top edge of my photo. My page is a central design so everything is working from the centre of the page outwards.

It was now time to embellish! I’ve started by fussy cutting out some of the elements from the ‘Fussy Cuts’ paper and pulling pieces from the ‘Ephemera Pack‘ and ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’. Adding bits and pieces to the main structure of my page. I’ve also used a bow die in my Sizzix machine to create some fun paper bows and added these for dimension and interest. This is a great way to use up paper scraps if you have them.

Next, I’ve added in a flair button from the ‘Flair pack‘, some typed sentiments from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ and some ‘Enamel Dots’ in gold to add a pop of sparkle. These smaller elements help round out the page and finish it off so nicely.
