Together | These days Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. We are having themed week and we are focusing on frames and borders. When I saw it in the schedule, I started thinking of where I can find those. We have some frames in ephemera packs and as a pattern papers. Borders are printed on paper with bunch of other elements to cut out. As I am a bigger fan of frames, I decided to focus on them this time. One of the papers from brand new “These days” collection, called “Wall of fame”, has plenty of doodly frames on one side, so I cut out some of them. And then… I started to wonder how can I incorporate them into layout. I decided it’s time for some fall project! I am not a fan of gloomy and grey days and rainy weather but I totally love first few weeks of autumn with all of their fantastic colors and “These days” collection has a lot of them added.

I took set of leaf dies and I cut out a lot of leaves from beautiful “Daybreak” paper. Ombre pattern with green, yellow, orange and red was made for this kind of projects! Next step was to create a matching, mixed media background with my beloved watercolors. I picked five colors and made few vertical strokes with each of them. Nothing fancy and complicated. When the background was dry, I splashed each color with a matching mist to add some color drops in more vivid shades.

I printed four pictures in small size and filled four frames with them. Rest of the frames became part of the background. I glued them directly to the base I prepared earlier and added photos. Next step was to arrange leaves, color on color, all around the background.

I went through ephemera pack and picked few trees to add them to by composition. I also cut out few colorful butterflies from “Take flight” paper. Color on color technique always gives fantastic results and helps you orginize the page easily. You don’t have to think much on where to place the embellishments – it kind of happens  naturally.

Thanks to my light background I could use some clear stickers included into “These days” collection. Brush strokes matches the messy charakter of my page perfectly. I also added more trees here and there. Puffy stickers and wooden buttons are perfect finishing touches. And there is nothing better for the title than beautiful foam word stickers! Black color stands out great from the backgrund.

I had so much fun making this page and it all came together very easy. I think it’s because of this fantastic color palette. Frames are great for smaller photos and make the shapes of them less common and obvious.

Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends !

 

Sophie with you on the blog today sharing this new layout created with the beautiful “These Days” collection.

 

 

My focus today was to use the A5 Paper Stack. Ohh this was fun !!!

 

Here is a look at my process;

 

This frame paper is really what got me started. I fussy cut plenty of those cute little frames and I knew that I wanted to incorporate them on my page.

 

 

I selected 3 other A5 patterned papers and printed my photo in black and white. It’s actually a selfie that Sabrina took while trying to cuddle our dog !

 

 

I teared the 3 patterned papers and planned to align them on the bottom of my layout.

 

 

I also played with some Lindy’s Stamp Gang magical powders to create a soft mixed media background on a thick white cardstock as shown here:

 

 

 

Then, I tied everything together. I added tissue paper and adhesive foam behind my photo. I layered the 3 pieces of patterned papers, stitched them down and curled them a little bit for more dimension.

 

I mounted most of the frames on adhesive foam and placed them in a horizontal design around my photo.

 

 

I decorated each of them with different elements from the collection; Accessory Stickers, Die Cut Ephemeras, Floral Ephemeras, Wood Epoxy buttons and Puffy Stickers. My title is from the Clear Stickers that I first sticked to white paper and fussy cut.

You and Me together | Josefine van der Hoeven | These Days collection

Welcome and so happy to see you at the Cocoa Vanilla blog today. It’s Josefine here and share with you a new layout that I made with this amazing collection ” These Days”

I really wanted to work with these super cute puffy stickers and the shimmering gold hearts. I thought it would be fun to make a wreath and used the golden hearts in the center of these paper flowers.

I first draw a circle with a pencil on my white cardstock background. Then I stamped several times with the Distress Oxide color “evergreen bough”
I use a background clear stamp and print several times. Until I have a green circle in the middle. I mix the Distress Oxide with water and with a water brush I splash several times.

It’s time to make a wreath and I used the flowers and leaves from the “Floral ephemera” set
I put everything in a circle and used the punch floral set from We R keeping memories to punch out the five flowers from the design paper. In the center of these paper flowers I paste a gold heart. These flowers look so cute.

I punch out some more leaves from the green colored designer paper and slide them between the homemade paper flowers. I decorate my wreath with butterflies, wooden buttons and of course the puffy stickers. I place several puffy stickers between the leaves. Everything together gives such a festive effect. Really I love it. I cut out the photo in a circle and also cut out design paper in the shape of a circle. I use my sewing machine and stitch the edges. Then I place the photo in the center of the wreath. Finally I splash some white acrylic paint and gold acrylic ink on my page. So happy how this layout turned out.

Hello Lovely | Hello Lovely digital collection | Sophie Delorme

Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends !

 

It’s Sophie with you today and a Throwback Thursday layout !

 

I used the Digital Hello Lovely collection that you can find here in the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Shop.

 

 

Everything you see on this page comes from the digital kit that I printed at home with my Ink Jet printer. Let’s guide you through my process:

 

I started with a thick white cardstock as my base and created a simple mixed media background with some Lindy’s Stamp Gang magical powders diluted with water. I also added splatters of color with my brush.

 

I used a cut file from the JustNick Studio store and backed it with some Hello Lovely patterned papers. I also added a little bit of watercolor paint on the leaves and flowers to give them more depth and interest.

 

 

I mounted the cut file on adhesive foam and placed it on the lower half of the page.

 

I printed a beautiful photo of my little Sabrina in black and white, added tissue paper and arranged it a bit crooked above the cut file.

 

I fussy cut the title, banner and ephemeras from the printed digital collection and made sure to pop them with adhesive foam for more dimension before placing them on my layout.

 

 

I also added fussy cut beautiful florals that I added on top of the cut file.

 

I teared a big chunk of the polka dot paper to place on the bottom of the page, adding to it a fussy cut scalloped border, different words and a label on which I stamped the date.

 

 

Finally, I handwrote my journaling with a fine tip black pen directly on my background and scattered a few white Nuvo Drops as the finishing touch.

Bloom | These Days Collection | Danni Visser

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends! Danni here with a layout inspired by this month’s gorgeous moodboard. I was incredibly inspired by all the bright rich colours and the quote, so I decided to pull out my watercolours and have some painty fun.

When I first received the new ‘These Days’ collection and saw the sketchy florals in Neighbourhood 12×12 patterned paper, I thought it was perfect for making a customized painted background. I pulled some of the beautiful bright colours from the moodboard and used my watercolour paints to fill in the outline of some of the leaves and flowers.

I wanted that soft hand painted watercolour effect, so I kept the painting quite messy and imperfect. I also left some of the outlines unpainted to avoid the background looking too clustered and added some delicate splatters.

I chose a single photo of a beautiful kookaburra my husband took several years ago and matted it with the woodgrain paper from the A5 paper stack. Using the floral images from the moodboard, I chose some floral cluster cutfiles from my stash and backed them with Daybreak 12×12 patterned paper and one of the 3×4 pocket cards. I tucked the clusters around opposite corners of my photo.

To fill out the floral clusters I tucked some of the floral ephemera in amongst them, layering them to create an illusion of depth and dimension. I added a sticker from the accessory stickers as a small title, layering it with a label below my photo. I added in some small leaves and flowers from the floral ephemera to tie this in with the rest of the ephemera clusters.

To finish everything off I added three tiny butterflies that I fussy cut from the A5 paper stack butterfly paper, bending them in the middle to make them three dimensional. I love how the hand painted background turned out! This is such a great way to add colour and tailor a paper to exactly what you are going for. I hope you enjoy trying this out too. Happy scrapping!

Fun in the sun | These days Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello, hello! It’s Anna here wnd I come to you with another layout. After so many years me being on this Team, you probably already know I love colorful collections and scrapbooking summer and vacation. That’s why you may be a little surprised today as I scrapbooked summer, beach photo but I used very soft “These days” collection, that has nothing in common with sea. I know I could cut into fantastic “Sunkissed” line, and to be honest, I even had it on my desk, but photo I picked turned out so dreamy and light that I just couldn’t fit it into so many colors. It’s full of sandy beiges and washed blues – colors that appear in “These days” line. So I challenged myself to use it with this particular photo.

“These days” collection is filled with fantastic motifs but none of them matches my beach photo. That’s why I focused on simple and versatile patterns and used dies to cut out shells and starfishes. I mixed papers from A5 Paper Stack and few 12*12 sheets like “Good life” and “Family ties”. Next step was to make myself very soft background. I quickly painted few blue stripes on white watercolor paper. I added a lot of water to the color because I wanted to achieve a very light shade.

After the background was dry, I glued my square photo in the middle and surrounded it with my die cuts mixing colors and shapes. Some of the shells are glued directly to the base and some are raised with one layer of foam squares. Thanks to that my composition is more dimensional and full of texture. For my title I reached for gold glitter foam titles from “Sunkissed” line. It has perfect words and color. Black words from “These days” would be too dark.

I went through the ephemera pack and picked few versatile shapes, like banner, to add them to my composition. I also found few matching stickers with generic words on them. My light background was perfect for displaying clear stickers so I picked few hearts and small crosses and scattered them between the die cuts.

My favorite wooden epoxy buttons are perfect for any type of project and they add fantastic texture. I added three of them here and there and finished everything with few small hearts from puffy stickers sheet. Few blue and gold splatters connected everything together perfectly.

I just love using scrapbooking collections in unusual ways and spreading my stash and this is a perfect example. I hope it will inspire you to look at your papers in a new, fresh way. Thank you so much for stopping by and see you in two weeks.

HELLLO GRATEFUL LIFE | JOSEFINE VD HOEVEN | THESE DAYS COLLECTION

It’s Josefine here with you today at the Cocoa Vanilla Blog sharing a new layout that I created with the beautiful “These days” collection and I couldn’t wait to combine my photos from Paris with the beautiful patterns and designs of this awesome collection.

I started by stamping on the white cardstock background by using a background clear stamp that looks like a stain. I make a mixed media background in the center of this page and stamp several times. The color of the Distress Oxide I am using is “tattered rose”
The color is very light and doesn’t stand out very much with photographing this layout.

I cut several picture frames from the design paper and placed them in the center of the page. I choose some different design papers and cut them into strips and fold them in half. I slide them under the picture frames.This gives a great dimension and extra details to your layout. I choose different die-cuts, labels, (puffy) stickers, word strips and wooden buttons to decorate my layout.

On both sides I make clusters of die-cuts, labels, flowers and stickers. I love creating different layers. I use 3d tape to make my clusters. Through the middle of the trees I sew with gold sewing thread. I love using sewing thread in my layouts.The great big black title ” Grateful” gets a nice spot under the photo. With the cute small alpha set I make the word life. My layout calls “Hello Grateful life” In love with the little puffy sticker typewriter. So cute!

Finally, I add some butterflies to my layout and splash some more with the Distress Oxide colors, tattered rose, speckled egg, victorian Velvet. I hope I was able to inspire you with this layout and want to thank you for visiting the Cocoa Vanilla Blog today! I wish you a beautiful and crafty day!

Lazy summer Days | Josefine vd Hoeven | Sunkissed collection

Welcome to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog today! So happy to see you It’s Josefine here sharing a new mixed media scrapbook layout with you that I made using the absolutely gorgeous summer collection “Sunkissed” just cant’t get enough of this collection.

For this summer layout I used the pocket page cards the 6×8 paper pad some die-cuts, a wooden button and stickers.The cut file I used is from Cut to you calls ” Lazy summer days” I started with a white sheet of cardstock and start mixing my pink colored distress oxide with a little bit of water and created a big stain in the center of this layout and at the end I splatter with the same color (Kitsch Flamingo)

 

 

I used a 6×8 star design paper sheet and cut it to size in a banner shape. I choose several patterns of pocket page cards and cut them to size and sew them on top of the star design paper using my sewing machine. I placed the two banners in the center of my layout and cut several 6×8 design papers to size and layer them behind the photo. I cut the title “Lazy summer day’s” with my Cricut and colored it with the color “peacock feathers” Distress Oxide and used a blending tool for the ombre effect.

 

I grab several die-cuts, stickers and word strips for decoration. Some die-cuts I sew with gold sewing thread and make clusters on both sides of the banners. At the top of the banners, I use white cotton thread for extra decoration. I sew gold thread through the center of this cutfile and place it under the photo. Finally, I make some white splatters with white acrylic paint for a festive look!

Picture Perfect Moments | These Days Collection | Danni Visser

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here sharing my first creation with the incredible ‘These Days’ collection, and I have to say, this is possibly my favourite collection ever! I have been so inspired to create with this one that I had to jump straight in with it. This layout was inspired by the adorable mason jar 3×4 pocket card.

I started with a mason jar cutfile (there are plenty of these available on Etsy) and cut out a white cardstock outline, and solid inside piece using Family Ties 12×12 patterned paper and a lid using grey and silver glitter cardstock. I raised the jar outline and the lid on foam to create a 3D effect.

To create a filled mason jar effect, I printed two small photos and selected all the trees and houses from the die cut ephemera pack. I arranged these within the cutfile jar to echo the design in the 3×4 pocket card. I also added in some tiny houses that I fussy cut from Neighbourhood 12×12 patterned paper and some tiny butterflies fussy cut from the A5 paper stack. These are so perfect for adding those tiny details.

For the background I chose the woodgrain side of Pretty Posies 12×12 patterned paper. I love woodgrain patterns for backgrounds, and it nicely emphasises the rustic country vibe of the mason jar. To create some extra detail I splattered some white acrylic ink all around the outside of the large mason jar.

I couldn’t resist using the mason jar 3×4 pocket card on the layout somewhere, so I fussy cut it out of the card and tucked it to the right of the large mason jar. I layered it with the ‘Picture Perfect Moments’ die cut ephemera piece to use as my title. I love using these smaller pieces for titles when I already have a large statement piece on the page.

To complete the page I added some more fussy cut tiny butterflies from the A5 paper stack, as well as some of the larger butterflies that I fussy cut from Take Flight 12×12 patterned paper. I love the two sizes of these butterflies! It enables you to create so much visual interest by varying sizes on the layout. I also added a smattering of white dimensional drops as a final touch.

100 Awesome Days | Boys Rule Collection | Danni Visser

Hi Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with a Throwback Thursday layout featuring some messy mixed media and the Boys Rule collection, plus a little You Rock and Totally Rad mixed in. These boyish collections all work so well together that I keep them together in the same plastic sleeve and use them as one big kit – so versatile!

I knew I wanted to do some mixed media today so I chose a lightly patterned background paper from Boys Rule called Good Times 12×12 patterned paper. Once I had decided where my photo would go I used a waffle stencil with white modeling paste to create texture in the space surrounding my photo. I added some colour with a distress oxide ink pad in navy blue and used a paintbrush and some water to soften and blend it. I also used a midtone blue ink spray to add variation in tone and lots of ink splatters.

I layered up my photo with a variety of patterned paper scraps in varying shades of grey, blue and yellow. In my photo my son is wearing a bright yellow bow tie, so I really wanted to add pops of that bright colour around the entire layout. With this in mind, I chose some wood veneer stars from the You Rock collection and coloured them with yellow ink. I also decided to use the “Awesome” wood veneer piece as part of my title, so I inked that in a bright teal.

I build two large embellishment clusters around my photo and a smaller one around my title. I mainly used the accessory stickers from all three collections to do this, plus the inked wood veneer stars. I chose a variety of shapes including arrows, tabs, flags and stars, mostly using blues but also making sure to add some pops of bright yellow and orange to brighten up the layout.

As a final touch I added three tiny word stickers from the Boys Rule accessory stickers, some aqua dimensional drops and some bold ink splatters in black for an extra dramatic touch. This is definitely a ‘messy’ layout, and I feel that the black splatters really help to bring it all together.
