Let’s Go Explore | Great Escape | Michelle Stokes

Hooley Dooley its February already! Michelle here with you today, sharing something a little different for me using the new Great Escape Collection.

The minute I laid eyes on this awesome collection I immediately thought of all the travel inspired layouts and creations I could make, then I remembered that travel for us has well and truly been on the back burner for quite some time. So why not create a mini book ready for when we are ready to.

I created this mini album in 6×8 size using so many of the fun pattern papers from this collection, with plenty of space to add photos, write down memories and keep all the things we can collect along the way. Think maps, tickets and tags of all kinds. Theres pockets, fold outs and extra clear pages for all the extra photos I’m sure we will add. I’ll add a list of all materials used at the end of the post for those who may want to recreate for your own travel photos.

Once all the pages and pieces were complete, I bound it all together using my Cinch tool ready for our next family adventure.

Be warned, this is a very photo heavy post as it was just too hard to choose a few photos to share.

First up is a pocket with hidden tag for photos, bits n pieces or even a little journalling. Then when you flip the page you come across space for larger photos or even postcards collected along the journey

I added in pieces of notepaper scattered throughout the book to give space for journalling all about the adventures being had

I created a large pocket perfect to hold larger items like folded maps and brochures. This was super easy to create by joining 2 pieces of pattern paper together and sewing along the top and bottom. No need to sew along the edge that needed to be closed as the binding coils help to enclose that end.

I added another clear pocket over the page for another larger photo, which can be moved like all the pages in this album, by opening up the coil and rearranging.

One of my favourite ways to mix things up in these mini books is by creating different types of pages, this one is a double sided tag with ribbon, reminiscent of a luggage tag

Another fun piece is this flip out page that opens up to showcase multiple photos and journalling together, which would be perfect for extra special moments within the journey

Further into the book theres yet another pocket with some pull out pieces for hidden photos/journalling/ephemera, with the pocket sewn straight onto the pattern paper this time with an opening to the side.

Flipping through theres more places for photos, including a space for some film strip type photos and more journalling.

1 last pocket for the book with a top opening and plenty of space for extra photos/tickets or even receipts from along the journey

Lastly a space on the final page for last thoughts, future trip ideas, extra photos you name it

And a cute little something on the back of the book ready to fill out once its filled up with memories.

The good times | Happy days Mini album | Anna Komenda

Hello, hello! It’s Anna here and today I don’t have a layout for you! While I was waiting for the brand new “Heart & home” collection to arrive, I once again decided to make “use as much as you can” type of project with the older line. Those cabins won’t stretch any more further so I need to make some room. Truth to be told – I would probably need to make 100 of albums like this to notice some empty space… However, the result of my internal challenge is cute, colorful mini album made with wonderful “Happy days” collection. I need to warn you that I have many photos to share with you.

I made this mini album from scratch, using three pieces of cardboard for the cover and some colorful cardstock for the page bases. I arranged them in rainbow order inspired by all the rainbows in “Happy days” collection. I also went through all the pattern papers and chose few in matching colors to continue the rainbow trend. I used both 12*12 papers like “Lush blooms”, “Flutterby”, Juicy friut”, “Feel good”, “Little blossoms” , “Sunshine lollipops”  along with A5 Paper Stack.

Album is quite small, measuring only 10*15 cm, but each page has some folded flaps or pockets so it can hold many photos. You can easily expand the album even further by adding even more flaps on the back of each page.

This is how it looks from the side, with cascade of pages, each 1cm smaller than a previous one. There is plenty of room to add more volume with photos and embellishments.

To decorate the pages, I reached for almost all of the embellishments from this collection. I used Accesory stickers, Die cuts ephemera, Floral ephemera, Chipboard titles, Puffy stickers and Puffy hearts. I only added the glue on the edges of the embellishments so you can still tuck the photo behind it!

I also added some embellishments on the back of each page, the way you can look at it without turning the album upside down. As I mentioned each page has some flap or pocket for more room for photos. It was hard to photograph them so you need to believe me they are there.

And that is all! I know it was a lot of photos but it was hard to choose only few pages to showcase. I hope you like this mini album.

Rainbow Run Mini Album | Happy Days collection | Guest Designer – Niki Rowland

Hey everyone! This is Niki (@nikiclairecreates) and I’m excited to be back with another project and process video Guest Designing for Cocoa Vanilla Studio! This time I have made a mini album. It is a box in the shape of a rainbow, with an arch shaped mini album inside!

To make the box, I started with the front and back covers. I hand drew a rainbow onto a piece of scrap cardstock and cut it out and then used this as a template. I traced around it onto lots of different papers from the A5 paper stack and cut them all out, then distressed the edges and layered them all together. I then mounted this onto a piece of white card and cut out leaving a white border. I added pink hand stitching around the edge using embroidery thread I did all this twice so I had identical rainbows, one for the front of the box and one for the back.

To make the clouds I did the same: hand-drew a cloud onto a piece of scrap cardstock and cut it out to use as a template. I drew around it onto that super-cute ditsy heart print which I cut out and mounted onto white card. I added pick stitching around all of the clouds, then added them to my rainbows.

To make the inside part of the box, I used yellow cardstock to make an insert. I make these really simple, just two pieces of cardstock cut and folded – you can see more details on the process video.

With the box assembled, I moved on to making the mini album itself. I again created a template from white cardstock for the pages and cut that out. I then used this as a template for all pages. I drew them onto more papers from the A5 Paper Stack and cut them out. I then stuck them all together, back to back, to make a super-easy album, which I secured around the outside with ribbon.

I embellished the front of the box with a Chipboard Title, a few pieces of Floral Ephemera, a fussy cut butterfly and some phrase stickers. I also added the title ‘Rainbow Run’ using those adorable Mini Puffy Alphabet Stickers, to one of the clouds.

To embellish the album itself, I wanted to include the wooden medal from the Rainbow Run (this mini album is all about a sponsored run I took part in) and the actual ribbons from the medals at the event. I managed to incorporate those onto the front page and the ribbons are what tie the album together I think it’s really great to include momentums like that within albums if possible and these were perfect!

The album itself is quite interactive – I have 40 photos to include, so it had to be! Some pages have photos that flip up or flip out, there is a ball-chain containing 11 photos, there is also a pocket page. On one of the pages, I made a shaker pocket: I cut a piece of acetate to the same size as the page, pierced holes all the way around the edge and chain stitched with the same pink thread used for the album covers, trapping the sequins inside. I love how this looks! 

I used more papers from the A5 paper stack throughout the album to decorate the pages and mount my photos. I’ve also used lots of Floral Ephemera,  Phrase Stickers and several of the puffy heart stitchers throughout the album. I also used some of the other Chipboard Titles to make feature pages.

I absolutely love how this turned out, it is just adorable and so pretty to look at and I had the perfect photos for a rainbow album! Family memories | These days Album | Anna Komenda

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans. It’s Anna here with another (and probably my last ever) inspiration made with wonderful “These days” collection. Using whatever I have left from this line I created a mini album. This is my favorite way of “killing” the collection as it uses up the most of papers and random embellishements. I am left with wonderful album, ready to add the photos or be given as a handmade gift.

Album itself measures about 12*17 cm and can acommodate 10*15 cm vertical photos and some smaller ones. I made my album base from scratch adding five main pages inside. Cover is a combination of pattern papers and a piece of a false leather with wooden pattern to strengthen up this area, as paper may crack in time from opening and closing the album. I also added a row of paper flowers from Flower ephemera Pack as a decoration of the cover. This collection has a strong “family bonding” theme so I decided to dedicate it for all the moments spend together, hence the FAMILY TIME MEMORIES title. It’s a combination of black Foam Title Sticker and Accessory Sticker.

Inner part of front cover is decorated with two 3*4 cards from Pocket Cards set. I used up a lot of them while making this album. They are great for journaling but also for fussy cutting some extra elements for decorating pages. Doodly frames from Ephemera pack from the first page are mounted with a piece of foam tape and you can slip photo under each of them.

I like adding extra flaps, pockets and inserts to my album and each page has some interactive elements. They are hard to be shown on photos, but believe me – they are there. Thanks to that, album can hold many, many photos. Most of the decorative elements are placed in the cornes with glue added only near the corner so you can tuck the photos behind them too!

Each page is also a pocket with even more space for extra photos or hidden journaling. I also added a waterfall page, that will be perfect for adding multiply smaller, horizontal pictures. You can fit even 14 of them on a single page! I decorated the flaps using all sort of embellishments: Accessory stickers, Ephemera pieces, Flower ephemera, Clear stickers and Puffy stickers.

For decorating my pages I not only used 12*12 papers but also almost the whole 6*8 paper stack that I had left. I also turned some of the paper scraps into smaller tags and pocket fillers so nothing was going to be wasted!

As a page bases I used regular kraft cardstock that corresponds really well with “These days” collection. Whenever I can, I always prefer kraft cardstock over white one while making albums. It seems so decorative by itself and it makes embellishments pop more.

I turned my last page into a big pocket for extra keepsakes and photos so whoever will be using this album in the future will have even more possibilities to customize it.

After finishing this project I could throw away few empty sheets of stickers and other empty packs. I don’t know why but it’s such a pleasure for me to use up something to the very last bit. Do you feel similar finishing an embellishment pack or it’s only me?

Mini album “Our story” | Storyteller Collection | Anna Komenda

Hello crafty Friend. It’a Anna here and today I have something different than a layout for you! I know it’s been a while but I also love making albums. Sure, layouts are faster and easier, but albums have this extra cute factor and can hold much more photos and stories. And what collection can be better for saving stories than a “Storyteller”? This brand new CVS line is just fantastic and so versatile. You can scrapbook any photo with it – both feminine and masculine, thanks to the big range of colors and motiffs. I didn’t have any specific ones in mind so I made a generic album, than can be filled any time in the future. It can also become a great gift for someone, who loves documenting their live.

Album itself is rather small but it can hold about 30 3*4 photos, thanks to the pockets and extra cards. I made the album base from scratch with three pieces of cardboard and some extra fabric to reinforce the cover. I think jeans pattern and color matches the papers perfectly. I combined it with paper with hearts called “Oh my heart”. You may notice the pattern is upside down, which wasn’t intended… I realized my error after the pages inside were finished and there was no easy fix for this. So I tried to cover the hearts with the flowers as much as I could hoping they will be distracting enough so hearts won’t be that visible.

Both front and back covers are decorated with ephemera pieces, floral ephemera pieces and chipboard stickers. There are so many great embellishments to choose from the “Storyteller” line! Black foam title stickers are just a cherry on top. I added them both on covers and inside the album as a contrasting piece and decorative element!

There is also one more product that I used in big quantities here – pocket cards! I am not a project lifer so I was sure I won’t use up those cards for my PL spreads. I decided to use as many as i could for my album. They serve as a filler for five pockers in the pages but they can be also found tucked into the pages. You can use them either as a base for extra photos or for some journaling.

For smaller projects, like my mini album, 6*8 paper stack can be more convinient to use than 12*12 papers.It also gives you a bigger choice for patterns as they are a bit different than the ones in 12*12 sheets. I used a lot of the pages for my album mixing them with dark navy cardstock as a page base.

On this page above I used doodly frames from ephemera pack as a pockets to slip photos into. All I needed to do is to add strips of foam on three sides of the frame and glue it down to the page.

Another page in my album got a little, long pocket that I filled with tags and squares cut out from 12*12 paper called “Story time”. This is such a mighty paper – you can cut it into pieces and add them into your epehemera pack for even more elements!

Two of my album pages got this little strip of paper that holds some loose pieces of papers and some 3*4 cards. You can add extra photos on them or a journaling. You can also add even more of them or remove them completely – whatever floats your boat!

When my album was done I went back and embellished each page with some small elements like puffy sticker hearts and dots or little, black foam hearts from Titles pack. This made the whole album more cohesive. This project took me few hours to finish, longer than a layout for sure, but it was time well spent and I love the final result. I hope you like it too and my alum will inspire you to make your own mini books with “Storyteller” line.

The Best Kid | Album | No Limits | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS crafty friends! I have another album to share using the fab new No Limits. This album is larger than the one I created earlier in the month and this album can fit up tp 12 photos of varying sizes. I

I have used the following papers: Stardust, Latitude, Nebula, Orbit and Spark.  This banner album is from the Silhouette design store. I added black machine stitching to add definition and texture.

I chose my title from the Die Cut Titles and added with foam tape on every second page. I have used the smaller banners so dates can be added. I found two blue O rings from my stash which go wonderfully with the colours of this collection.

I added frames from the No Limits chipboard for two smaller photos. I made use of the pocket cards as photo mats. I added more black machine stitching through the album. By adding another die cut title word here I have created another title.

I have used the pocket cards to add spaces to document and the accessory stickers to journal.

Here I created some flap pages to be able to add even more pages. These are simple to make, simply score a 1/4 inch at the top and use wet glue to attach on top of each other.

Of course the fun part is adding the embellishments! I used many of the wood epoxy stickers to add dimension. I used lots of phrase sentiments from the chipboard, die cuts and accessory stickers. Once I had added the embellishments I went back and added puffy stickers on most pages.

Boys Will Be Boys | Mini Album | No Limits | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends, as promised I have created a mini album focusing on the Pocket Cards from the No Limits collection. Apart from using one 12×12 paper, Big Bang for the cover I used papers from the A5 paper pad.

This mini album is super easy to make and no cutting machine required! Here are the cutting instructions:

  1. Cut a 11 x 5 inch strip.
  2. Score 5 inches in from the left and then right. This will leave you a 1 inch spine.
  3. Cut another paper strip 3 x 5 inches.
  4. Score at 1 inch from the left and then right. This will leave you a 1 inch spine again. This binding piece will fit perfectly onto your album cover.
  5. Machine stitch binding paper strip and wet glue to your cover.
  6. Use a corner punch on front and back cover

You will see inside I have created a pocket which again is simple to do.

1.Cut a 4 x 3 inch strip.

2 Score a 1/4 inch at each side and fold under.

3. Scallop punch top of pocket.

4. wet glue each fold and a thin amount to bottom to close up.

I have added some tags to my pocket. I decorated my pocket with embellishments from the chipboard and finished off with an epoxy wooden button.

On the other side I punched a hole and added an eyelet (ensuring it would be big enough for my O ring) and threaded through an O ring I found in my stash. This is where you will add your pocket cards and photos.

I added machine stitching to all my pocket cards to add texture and left some thread on for a rustic feel. I chose the larger stars from the die cut ephemera pack which hang from the O ring.

I have added traditional photos measuring 3×4 inches and added them between the pocket cards which allows you to journal. You can also add photos to the pocket cards also. I also cut the silhouette of my son and added to a pocket card which looks super adorable and mixes things up.

I used the accessory sticker sheet phrase sentiments and added directly onto my photo.

I used the puffy stickers to also add some sparkle to the cards! The trick is to add lots of different textures to your mini album so it is not flat but has lots of dimension.

My title Boys will be Boys is a cut file from the Silhouette design store. To add dimension some letters I have added with foam tape others flat. I added a mix of chipboard stars, die cut stars and puffy sticker stars.

The wonderful thing about this album is that it is not a huge consumer of paper, saving those 12×12 papers! I do not do PL and therefore this is a fab way to use pockets cards where you can photos, mementos and add lots of journalling.
