Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends!

 

Sophie on the blog today with this new layout created with the No Limits collection!

 

 

I used a black and white photo of my son Gabriel holding our new puppy on the very first day that we got her.

 

I used a white cardstock for my background and teared a big chunk of the No Limits Nebula patterned paper that I placed on the left side of the page.

 

I added tissue paper and foam adhesive behind the photo and placed a layer of the colorful No Limits Latitude paper on the left side of it.

 

I selected a cut file from the Silhouette Studio store, cut the title directly on the white cardstock, backed the letters with two yellow 3×4 cards and hand stitched around the Paw Print. I also created a little shaker with that paw print. It’s such a beautiful addition to the page!

 

 

I wrote my journaling on another 3×4 card, added two subtitles “Out of this world” and “One of a kind” fussy cut out of the No Limits Universal paper and stamped the date.

 

 

I decorated around the photo in a diagonal design with a few hearts punched out of different patterned papers, on which I added vellum hearts. I stitched the hearts in their center and curled up their edges. A simple but sophisticated way to embellish a page!

 

 

Finally, I added Wood Epoxy Buttons and puffy stickers here and there around the page for the finishing touch.

You’re Awesome & the best my Sweet boy | No Limits | Josefine vd Hoeven

Hello paperlovers, So happy to see you at the Cocoa Vanilla blog! For today I have new scrapbook inspiration for you. My Challenge for this layout “Create a layout with the chipboard die-cuts and the wooden buttons” This layout came about very easily. But I think the result is very cool. I used the amazing collection “No Limits”. I really can’t get enough of this cool collection. The colors orange and blue are my favorite.

I first started by tracing a circle on a sheet of white cardstock. Then I stitched it with blue sewing thread. In the center of the circle, I stamped a stain with blue oxide ink. The color I used is “faded Jeans” With a cleaning sponge that I first moisten and then pick up some blue ink and then I stamp with the cleaning sponge several times on the white cardstock until the stain is big enough. I dry the oxide ink with the heat tool and then I splash a little with the oxide ink by using my watercolor brush.

When my mixed media background is dry. I look for several chipboard die-cuts that I want to use. I placed the chipboard die-cuts in different places in the circle. I think the design is very cool. When everything is in place I cut the picture of my son into a circle. I also cut a circle out of the design paper and line the edges with a stitch border of blue sewing thread. I stick the photo on top of the blue circle and then I placed both of these on top of the chipboard die-cuts in the center of my layout.

For the title of this layout called “You’re Awesome & the best my Sweet Boy” I use the chipboard alphas set and an alphas set from my own stash. I really enjoy using different alphas sets for my scrapbook titles. It really gives a playful effect which I love.

To make my layout come more alive I splash with white gesso. I mix white gesso with a small amount of water and with a thin brush I make several white splatters on my layout. I also splash some more with the blue Oxide ink “faded Jeans” This way the chipboard die-cuts stand out more. Of course I also want to use some wooden buttons. As an extra decoration.

I’ve said it before but the wooden buttons they are definitely one of my favorite embellishments. They are so cute and fun. I am very happy how this layout turned out. The playful effect from the different chipboard elements and the ink splatters make this a cool boys layout. Easy, simple and with a surprising result.

You’re The Best | No Limits Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello fellow Creatives! It’s Michelle back here today with a new layout to share with you all using the awesome No Limits Collection. A layout that stared off looking a lot different to the way it finished up.

Does anyone else out there start a layout with a clear intention of following along a certain design direction, especially when creating something to follow a specific theme, or use a specific product, only to fall down a completely different rabbit hole? Just me?

Well this crazy crafter was given the task of showing off the wonderful Chipboard Stickers and Woodgrain Buttons from the No Limits collection. I had a specific idea in mind to create something that used a tonne of both embellishments, and next to no pattern paper… But then I got a little side-tracked with what I was watching while crafting and Voila! A pinwheel of sorts made up of a bunch of pattern papers with awesome bright colours and designs and a splattering of embellishments.

I still think it turned out pretty rad, just not the direction I intended to take haha

This sweet little face amongst the tiny plushies absolutely loves when I create layouts for her that aren’t the traditional girly colours and patterns, so this collection No Limits is right up her alley. I framed the photo using the larger chipboard sticker Frame and grouped it with the smaller to act as a frame for the title piece (also a chipboard sticker), ephemera piece and wood button.

The background is made up of a few different layers starting with the base – woodgrain BIG BANG paper, white cardstock that is twisted over the top and adhered flat. Next is the wonky pinwheel, made up of 8 different patterns from the 12×12 papers that are cut down into smaller triangles. I’ve sewn around each and left the threads loose for a little added texture to the layout then adhered each to the layout using pieces of foam for slight dimension.

I used a mix of chipboard pieces to the left hand side as embellishments, words that can often be used to describe this child of mine. I’ve added another wood button to the group also

I used a colour blocking method for the extra embellishments in both the orange and yellow sections of the pinwheel, adding fussy cut stars from both the 12×12 and A5 versions of NEBULA paper

I added the date using a cut apart piece from the A5 version of UNIVERSAL paper and grouped it together with a star and the black ORBIT paper triangle

You’re the best, Cool Kid | No Limits | Josefine van der Hoeven

Hello Paperlovers, How nice to see you again on the Cocoa Vanilla blog today. It’s Josefine here with a new mixed media layout. This time I worked with the super cool and beautiful boys collection “No limits” I think this is such a great collection. The cool look and the cool colors can’t get enough of it.

 

I first started with the mixed media background and used the following colors of Distress Oxide, “broken china” and “prize ribbon” I took a cleaning sponge and cut a piece from it. I wet the sponge and placed a little ink from both colors on a piece of plastic. I pick up the ink with the sponge and apply it in a stamping way on the white background.

I take a text clear stamp and stamp small prints of the stamp on my mixed media background. The ink I used is “broken china”

I used a cut file with stars and choose a cut file from Cut to You calls “Star Cluster”  I cut the cut file from orange pattern paper and placed the cut file on my mixed media background. I stitched Some stars I with blue sewing thread and put it on top of the cut file for a lovely 3D effect.

For this boys layout I used a number of pocket page cards. I picked out a few for the right colors and cropped them and then placed them behind the photo. In between the pocketpage cards, I stick some tabs, stars and die-cuts. Lovely all these layers.

 

I fussy cut several stars from the beautiful pattern paper and placed them in different spots on top of the cut file. Some of the stars I provide with a blue stitch border of blue sewing thread and on top of the stars a few word strips.

I made two clusters of die-cuts, stars, wooden buttons and tickets on both sides of the photo. For the title, I used the awesome large die-cut titles. The title for this layout is “You’re the best Cool Kid”

 

Now it’s time to do some splattering on the layout with both colors of distress oxide and also some white splattering with the gesso. I mix the gesso with a little bit of water so I can splatter more easily with my brush. I hope you got some fun and creative ideas from my blog today and enjoy getting started with this beautiful collection. Always Be | No Limits Collection |Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey Scrappy Friends, its Michelle back here today with a new layout to share using our amazing No Limits Collection. Another layout documenting a fun moment that Leila was enjoying, using this wonderful collection thats great for kids of all kinds.

I designed the entire layout around the ‘Always be Your Awesome Self’ card which can be found on the UNIVERSAL cut apart paper. I wanted to use this as the main title for the layout and keep it in line with the photo and journalling card. I thought it was the perfect way to document Leila and her epic 1 person clothes horse cave/fort.

I started with the usual white cardstock background, a mix of complimentary colours and patterns in both 12×12 and A5 papers and a bunch of fussy cut stars from the NEBULA paper

I cut all the papers in to different size banner pieces, and sewed around the edges of some for a little extra detail. I adhered all the pieces to the background using different thicknesses of foam and tape for differing heights of dimension. The shadow effect this gives a layout really makes it come to life.

I added some of the gorgeous Woodgrain paper BIG BANG to the back of the photo to help it stand out amongst all the patterns and colour, and adhered to the top of all the layers using some foam tape

I roughly tore the edge off one of the layers, and used a border punch on the other so that there weren’t too many straight edges. I embellished this side using accessory and chipboard stickers plus a tiny hand cut star

To the right of the photo I added the journaling using another card from the UNIVERSAL cut apart paper. I added more cut apart pieces to the right of that, adhered using my tiny attacher.

I left the threads loose on all the pieces I sewed around to create texture, even though they’re small they still add overall design of the layout.

The fussy cut stars from the NEBULA paper were a last minute addition to the layout, and one I’m glad I added. The layout didn’t feel complete without them

And lastly I added a couple of puffy sticker dots to the star clusters and a splattering of black in to finish it all off.

Boys Will Be Boys | Mini Album | No Limits | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends, as promised I have created a mini album focusing on the Pocket Cards from the No Limits collection. Apart from using one 12×12 paper, Big Bang for the cover I used papers from the A5 paper pad.

This mini album is super easy to make and no cutting machine required! Here are the cutting instructions:

  1. Cut a 11 x 5 inch strip.
  2. Score 5 inches in from the left and then right. This will leave you a 1 inch spine.
  3. Cut another paper strip 3 x 5 inches.
  4. Score at 1 inch from the left and then right. This will leave you a 1 inch spine again. This binding piece will fit perfectly onto your album cover.
  5. Machine stitch binding paper strip and wet glue to your cover.
  6. Use a corner punch on front and back cover

You will see inside I have created a pocket which again is simple to do.

1.Cut a 4 x 3 inch strip.

2 Score a 1/4 inch at each side and fold under.

3. Scallop punch top of pocket.

4. wet glue each fold and a thin amount to bottom to close up.

I have added some tags to my pocket. I decorated my pocket with embellishments from the chipboard and finished off with an epoxy wooden button.

On the other side I punched a hole and added an eyelet (ensuring it would be big enough for my O ring) and threaded through an O ring I found in my stash. This is where you will add your pocket cards and photos.

I added machine stitching to all my pocket cards to add texture and left some thread on for a rustic feel. I chose the larger stars from the die cut ephemera pack which hang from the O ring.

I have added traditional photos measuring 3×4 inches and added them between the pocket cards which allows you to journal. You can also add photos to the pocket cards also. I also cut the silhouette of my son and added to a pocket card which looks super adorable and mixes things up.

I used the accessory sticker sheet phrase sentiments and added directly onto my photo.

I used the puffy stickers to also add some sparkle to the cards! The trick is to add lots of different textures to your mini album so it is not flat but has lots of dimension.

My title Boys will be Boys is a cut file from the Silhouette design store. To add dimension some letters I have added with foam tape others flat. I added a mix of chipboard stars, die cut stars and puffy sticker stars.

The wonderful thing about this album is that it is not a huge consumer of paper, saving those 12×12 papers! I do not do PL and therefore this is a fab way to use pockets cards where you can photos, mementos and add lots of journalling.

My Heart is Full | No Limits collection | Sophie Delorme

Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends!

Sophie here with a new layout to share!

 

I used the No Limits collection. I decided to do a little bit of mixed media on the gorgeous “Stardust” paper that I used for my background.

I cut a cut file from Just Nick Studio and used it as a stencil to apply white acrylic paint on the center of the page. I also added white splatters.

I mounted a beautiful black and white photo of my son studying with our dog on tissue paper, foam adhesive and a few layers of patterned papers chosen from the A5 Paper Stack.

 

I used another Just Nick Studio cut file for my title. I used the yellow A5 paper to create the inner parts of the letters, machine stitched on them and popped them up with foam dots instead of backing the cut file with them.  It creates a more dynamic title and I love the result!

 

I embellished around the photo with elements from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, the Puffy Stickers, the Chipboard Stickers and two Wood Buttons.

I handwrote my journaling on a die cut and placed it next to the photo.

Love this cute face | These Days collection | Josefine vd Hoeven

Hello creative Paperlovers,

Welcome to the Cocoa Vanilla blog today! It’s Josefine here showing you a new scrapbook layout. My assignment for this layout is, use an older Cocoa Vanilla collection. I chose the “These Days” collection. The beautiful soft colors match perfectly with the spring weather that is coming.This photo of my son has been a while. But his dreamy look he still has. I enjoy seeing these moments reflected in photos. They are beautiful and happy memories that I like to use for my scrapbook projects.Today I’m going to tell you how I made this layout.

I grab a 12×12 white cardstock paper and choose the colors of Distress Oxide I want to use. The colors I chose are, antique linen, fossilized amber, worn lipstick and spiced marmalade. I start by blending the Distress Oxides and use my blending tools. I start with the color antique linen. Then fossilized amber, spiced marmalade and lastly worn lipstick. I gently blend the colors together and the soft tones in my background come more and more to life. I splash some more with the different colors of distress oxides. Now it’s time to decorate my layout with the awesome collection “These Days” and the cute picture of my son.

I cut three hexagons from the pattern paper and stitched the edges with gold sewing thread. I also cut the photo into the shape of a hexagon. I placed the hexagons in the center of my mixed media background and begin making clusters around the hexagons.

I used different metal dies sets for the leaves and twigs. Some leaves I stitch with gold and white sewing thread. I like lots of little different details in my layouts. I select several die-cuts and along with the leaves and twigs I make clusters on both sides of the hexagons. I use the cute wooden buttons as additional decoration.

I combine the title for this layout with the black foam words and the colored mini alpha set. I find it fun and playful to make titles with different alpha sets. The title for this layout is “Love this cute face”. It is now time for my signature and splash some white splatters around with white gesso that I mixed with a little water. I love the festive effect the white splatters give.

I also splash some water droplets on my mixed media background. I let them soak in the Distress Oxide ink for a while and then I dab the drops with a piece of kitchen roll. I love the effect of water splashes on the oxide background!

I hope I was able to inspire you with this mixed media layout today. I had a lot of fun creating the mixed media background. You Got This | No Limits collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am excited to share a new scrapbook layout featuring the awesome No Limits collection!

I am documenting a photo of my eldest son from his first day of starting work at KFC as a casual. He was very confident and we knew he would be fine. 2 years on he still loves his job and everyone he works with also. There were so many cool elements in the No Limits collection to help tell the story and document the occasion!

I decided on a horizontal design for this layout, taking the A5 paper stack and cutting some strips from some of the patterned papers in the A5 paper stack.

I arranged them in different positions on the page and then added some machine stitching to the centres of each strip. I also bent up the edges of the papers just with my fingers, I love how the machine stitching and the bent up edges add some extra texture and interest to my page. I placed my photo slightly to the left of the page using craft foam and I layered 2 of the cards from the 3′ x 4′ Journal Cards pack under my photo here. I also stapled one of the banner stickers from the Accessory Sticker pack to the photo and layered another small rainbow sticker under the 3′ x 4′ journal cards.

To the right of my photo I placed my title that is made up of the die-cut titles from the No Limits collection. I used foam tape under the title also to give some dimension and to help it stand out. I also added the cool banner die-cut from the Die-cut Ephemera pack that says ‘Go For It’ and those super cool hand gesture die-cuts had to be added too, these are so fitting for boy layouts!

On the bottom green paper strip I added a small cluster of embellishments including an arrow from the Chipboard pack, another phrase sticker from the Accessory sticker pack and a phrase die-cut too. These phrases all help to tell the story and are suited to the message I am trying to portray to my son in my layout.  I also added a few of the die-cut stars around as well, you can never go wrong with stars on a boy layout!

On the left of my photo I added another cluster of embellishments including the wood/epoxy button, the hand die-cut and another of the stars. When I create my clusters I always try to include similar colours from clusters I have previously created. This helps draw the eye around the layout, helps with visual design and makes the page aesthetically pleasing to look at. You can see on my layout that in each cluster I have added the red/orange colour, this is a great colour to use as it pops against most other colours. Another great colour to use for this is yellow.

Lastly I sprinkled some black mist and stamped the date stamp also. I hope you enjoyed my layout today?
