Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new scrapbook layout featuring the awesome Legendary collection. I have documented a rare photo of myself and my family from a day out together last year.

This week I had the task of scrap lifting myself, I chose my original 8.5′ x 11′ size layout below to ‘lift’ and chose the same collection to work with however I changed the size from the 8.5′ x 11′ into a 12′ x 12′ size.

You can see I added lots of the same elements in the same positions on my new page, including the large banner piece on the left as the main focus and a smaller cluster in the bottom right corner also. I cut the large banner piece from the ‘B’ side of the Explorer paper and popped it up using foam tape. The back ground paper is no longer available in the Cocoa store however the orange paper that the layout is matted on is the ‘B’ side of the One Way paper.

I placed my photo slightly to the right of the banner piece and placed the wood frame over the top to draw some attention to the photo. I tucked in one of the large stars from the ephemera pack under the top left of the photo. Two more stars were added to the lower part on the right of the banner to continue the stars across the page. I also took the round piece that says authentic and tucked that piece into the left of the photo also. On top of the frame I added the Sweet As sticker from the Accessory sticker pack and adhered one of the arrows from the ephemera pack to the bottom of the frame also. 

My title is made up of the Die Cut titles and I also added one of the words from the Clear Sticker pack. I added a few more of the word and phrase stickers from the Accessory sticker pack, some enamel dots and a few more of the smaller stars from the ephemera pack popped up on pop dots. Lastly I bent the edges of the background paper to add a little texture to my page and I stamped the date stamp.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE | JOSEFINE VD HOEVEN | LEGENDARY COLLECTION

Hello Paperlovers,

Welcome to the Cocoa Vanilla blog! It’s Josefine here today with a new scrapbook layout for you. I absolutely love the new No Limits collection! and can’t wait to play with it. I was so inspired by the colors that I wanted to create a cool boys layout for this blog. So I took Legendary out of my stash to create a mixed media layout with a winter touch.

I draw a circle in the center of the layout and with Distress Oxide I created a mixed media background. I used a background stamp that looks like a splatter and stamp several times with the distress oxide in a circle on the background.I mixed the ink with water to create a watercolor look. With a. thin round brush I splatter with the ink on the mixed media background. I really love the effect of splatters on my layout. The color I used is “faded Jeans”

I used two cut files on this layout. The deer in the background I cut out twice and glued half on top of each other. The cut file is from the Cricut design studio. The “Outdoor Adventure” title is a cut file from Cut to You. I cut a circle from the design paper and stitch the edges with brown sewing thread. I place the circle in the center of the mixed media background. I placed the deer on top and cut some design paper to size and glued it behind my son’s photo. I placed the design papers with the photo on top of the cutfile. I use 3D foam to create more dimension.

I make a cluster of die-cuts and word strips on both sides of the photo. I stitched the words “So Epic” in the middle. I colored the cutfile title with a green Distress Oxide color. The color I used for that is “Peeled paint” I cut out several stars from the design paper and placed them in different places on my layout.

 

I attached the stars with 3D tape. I like the way the stars. stand out a little from the background. I mix the white gesso with water and with a thin brush I make white gesso splatters on my layout. I like the effect. I think Legendary is a great collection with pretty cool colors. I am so happy that No Limits will be the next wonderful boys collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio!

You are Awesome | Legendary Collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout for our Throwback Thursday feature this week. I decided to pull out the awesome Legendary collection for this layout! The masculine themed collections from Cocoa Vanilla Studio are always amazing and Legendary is definitely one of my all time favourite collections for creating layouts about my boy! On this layout I documented a photo of Isaac from earlier this year. It was just an everyday kind of photo, but I wanted this layout to convey how awesome I think he is!

I started my layout off with a sheet of white cardstock as the background, and then I trimmed down a piece of the yellow Wild One patterned paper to adhere to the top half of the background. Instead of cutting it straight across, I decided to cut the bottom edge on an angle to give it some more interest. I also tucked a strip of both the navy Explorer paper and the All Star paper under the bottom edge of the yellow paper, and I distressed the edges of all three papers to give them lots of texture. Once my background was done I added some black machine stitching around the edge of the page.

Next I matted my photo with my woodgrain Outdoors Type patterned paper and I adhered it on the left hand side of the page using craft foam for extra dimension. I added a little banner sticker to the top left hand corner of the photo that says ‘You’re pretty rad’, and I also tucked a tag under the top edge of the photo that I cut out of the Brave Heart paper.

I knew I wanted to add lots of stars to this page as they complement the theme of the layout. This boy is a super star! I used quite a few from the die cut ephemera pack in various sizes, and I also fussy cut a few from the All Star paper. I scattered them vertically down the left hand side of the page behind my photo. The larger open die cut stars were backed with vellum, and some were adhered with foam tape to give the layout lots of interest.

On the bottom right hand corner of the photo I added a Rubber Charm from the You Rock collection, as well as a little word sticker from the Legendary Accessory Sticker sheet.

To finish my layout off I added my title and journalling on the right hand side of the page. I followed the angle of the yellow patterned paper when adhering both. For my title I used a word from the Die Cut Title pack, combined with some white alpha stickers from my stash. To the right of my title I added another die cut star, as well as a couple of arrows from the Clear Stickers.

Boy album | Mix of collections| Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. it’s Anna here and it’s time for another Throwback Thursday. I recently dug up some older masculine collections from CVS and I decided I need to use them up finally. You know I usually am a bigger fun of flowers and pink so I still had plenty of papers and embellishments to play with. I went bold with this project, cutting into dozen of papers, using up to the last bit 5!!! sheets of 6*12 stickers and 3 sheets of transparent stickers! I am so proud of myself for putting those old goodies in good use. Ladies and gentlemen – I present you a big boy album with a mix of many CVS collections:

Can you name all of the lines I used here? I think I managed to squeeze in every single masculine collection that was ever released at Cocoa Vanilla. You can finds bits and pieces from: “Flying high”, “You rock”, “Boys rule”, Totally rad”, “Legendary” and “Made of awesome”. Most of them are no longer available in the store but “Flying hight”, “Made of awesome” and “Totally rad” were released as digital versions too! So you can print yourself as many papers and elements as you wish.

My album is sized 21*21 cm and it holds 5 pages inside. Each page has some flaps or pockets to hold many photos at 10*15 and 13*18 cm size. There is also plenty of room for a journaling and other keepsakes. I made everything from scratch starting from the cover. I used false leather with a wooden print to make album more durable. I mixed it with kraft cardstock that seemed to work better with all those patterns and colors.

Colorful papers are so joyful and fun – perfect for a little boy album. Even though they are from different collections, they still look good and cohesive together. I am not going to lie – I used so many 12*12 sheets here but I also managed to squeeze in many smaller paper scraps. However I was holding those papers for years and they totally deserved to shine and bring joy to someone.

I embellished my pages with a lot of various embellishments like ephemera pieces, 6*12 stickers, transparent stickers, chipboard stickers, washi strips, flair buttons, wooden elements and resin stars. All of them comes from the collections I listed previously. To be honest, many of them were stored in one bag together as a “boy stuff” that I can no longer tell which collection they belong to. It doesn’t matter though. I am just happy I managed to use up as many of them. It always feels so good to throw away used up sheet of stickers. Does it feel this way for you too?

Some of the pages are more “fancy” with shakers filled with sequins or transparent foil piece. They serve mostly decorative purposed but I can imagine it will be more fun for kids to browse through this kind of album. Hidden spots, pockets, magnets make the album more interactive.

Making this album took me few days for sure (much more hours than I planned) but it was such a great experience. It’s not filled with photos as it will be a gift for my friend and her little boy. I even added his name on the back of the cover.

I hope it will bring her joy and adding photos will be a great dive into memory lane. This is the essence of scrapbooking for me! Now it’s time for a girl version, don’t you think? I still have some of the boy collection left so I will be able to make few mini albums too. There is a chance you will see them here :)

Photos will not give justice to this album so I recorded a flip through video for you. You will be able to see all the flaps and pockets this way.

Super Awesome Adventure | Legendary Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with another boy layout featuring the Legendary collection. I absolutely loved this Brave Heart mixed media style patterned paper, but didn’t want it to over power my photos. So, by layering white cardstock between the mixed media paper and the gray dot paper, the two work better together! I love the little photo corners I cut out of some scraps to give the center area a bit of dimension.

The title is from the clear sticker sheet, thought it has the look of handwriting or stamping! A small cluster of stars in several places on the layout were the minimal embellishing I added to this page. Most of the stars are fussy cut from the All Star patterned paper, but some are punched from scraps. Small dots of gold Nuvo Drops and gold ink splatter, along with hand-drawn stars add tiny details to each cluster.

I puzzled these photos together with the intention of creating the look of a modified grid, balanced, but yet off-kilter. I think this design works beautifully with these photos because it illustrates the nature of the castle featured there.  My favorite part of this layout is the clear sticker “Epic” on my photo with word phrases underneath. That small detail is just awesome!

Super Rad | Legendary collection | Kylie Kingham

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans. It’s Kylie back with you today with a new layout I have created with the Legendary collection. I have so many photos of my son to scrapbook and knew that the Legendary collection, combined with a fun cut file which has been designed by Cut To You, would be perfect together.

I have always loved the colour palette of the ‘Legendary’ collection and have used the beautiful ‘OFFBEAT’ paper as my background. I tore a 1.5 inch strip off the top of my page and added a piece of ‘ALL STAR’ paper as a contrast. My cut file was backed using both sides of the ‘WILD ONE’ paper.

I love that this particular cut file has a frame for positioning your photo. I cut down my 4″x 6″ photo to fit within the frame before adhering the cut file to the background with some foam adhesive squares. From the die cut pack I added a few extra stars surrounding my photo for balance.

Because I loves me a BIG title, the die cut title pack was perfect for constructing something well suited to the theme of my layout. These were also added, overlapping my photo a little with foam adhesive squares.

To complete my page I used a white marker pen to freehand draw a border around my page. This detail may only seem faint but it frames my completed page perfectly.

Epic | Legendary Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a bold and beautiful boy layout featuring the stickers in the Legendary collection. On the right side of the layout, I’ve created a trail of clear arrow stickers to add a border along that side and anchor the layered block to the side of the page. Then, alongside the right side of the bottom photo, I added a column of phrase stickers from the cardstock sticker sheet. The enamel dots give a little pop of dimension next to each phrase.

To the left of the photos, I layered clear star stickers around the die cuts to give a “stamped” effect. Love how clear stickers look on a white background! Then, I layered punched scraps and fussy cut stars all around the large die cut star (which I backed like a cut file with patterned paper). Enamel dots, Nuvo Drops, and ink splatter added the perfect detail finishers to this large star explosion!

The title may be my favorite part of this layout, it’s fussy cut from the Epic Tales cut apart and fit perfectly in that spot at the bottom! I popped each letter up on foam to give it a bit of dimension and put them on a jaunty angle for a bit of fun. Love the way the colors of the letters tie the layout together. I added my journaling around the perimeter of the layout for an extra border.

Brothers | Legendary collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi Cocoa Vanilla friends,

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new layout for our ‘My Signature Style’ theme. When I think of my signature style I think of my sons and boy layouts! So I chose to create with the awesome Legendary collection

Also my signature style would have to include, colour, clean lines and a cut file – I chose a star and rainbow one from CUT to YOU.

I cut out a rainbow and stars cut file design from white cardstock and backed the majority of the design with the gorgeous Wild One paper Where there are stars in the design, I backed these with various scraps of the 12′ x 12′ papers from a previous project, making sure not to have the same pattern too close together. Once the entire cut file was backed, I added craft foam to the back of the cut file. I then adhered it to another piece of white cardstock. I love the shadows this creates.

I placed the photo of my sons on the lower section of the cut file, I layered a patterned paper underneath it and popped it up with craft foam also. I added the ‘Yeah Boy’ sticker to the right hand side of the photo and the Noteworthy tab to the left of the photo. My title is one of the awesome cardstock die-cut titles I love these so much! The font is so cool and very ‘boy’! I adhered the title flat however I added the Extreme die-cut and popped this up above the title. I also added a clear sticker to white cardstock and then fussy cut it out, adhering it just under the Brothers title.

Some other embellishments I added were the star diecuts from the ephemera pack, some phrase and word stickers from the Accessory sticker sheet and some more clear stickers too. I printed my journaling onto cardstock and then cut it into strips, I also stamped the date stamp, lastly I trimmed down the white cardstock and matted the whole page onto the star paper. I love how my layout has turned out, it is definitely a ‘me’ page!

Totally Awesome Dudes | Legendary and Boys Rule collections | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue here today to share my latest design team project with you. Do you know what day it is today? It’s Throwback Thursday! And that means I am sharing a brand new layout using up some of my older Cocoa Vanilla stash. The purpose of this regular feature is to help inspire everyone to continue using up what they already have (so we can make room for all the new pretties, like the ‘Sunkissed’ collection).

For today’s project I decided to create a boy-themed layout, as I get lots of requests for boy pages, so I dug into my stash of both the ‘Legendary’ and ‘Boys Rule’ collections for an epic mash-up of the two. I love the way they combined for this layout, and I hope you do too!

I started my layout with the mandala-style print of the Explorer paper from the ‘Legendary’ collection as my page base. I then added a small amount of dark grey acrylic paint using a wide brush to help define the focal area of my page. My aim for this layout was to stick with a largely monochromatic palette of black / white / grey, with a pop of one colour, and I chose yellow. I love this colour combination for boys, as it’s a great change away from the traditional blues & greens that are often used for masculine pages.

I added a large piece of the Wild One patterned paper with the gorgeous yellow print in the centre of my page, which provided me with the big pop of colour I was looking for. I used a torn edge to add texture to the page and tucked a smaller piece of the Straight & Narrow striped paper from ‘Boys Rule’ under it. I double matted my photo using the Happy Go Lucky and Messed Up papers (also from ‘Boys Rule’) and added some scrap cardboard under it to pop it up from the page.

My title was the next element I tackled, as I knew I wanted it to fill the space beside my photo. I used a combination of the ‘Boys Rule’ Clear Stickers and ‘Legendary’ Die Cut Titles – because I love a good mixed font title!

For my embellishments, I created three clusters to form a visual triangle. The main cluster was at the bottom right corner of my photo, and consisted of a handmade star embellishment which I topped with one of the ‘Boys Rule’ Flair Buttons. I also added a die cut banner along the bottom edge of my photo and some gold twisted wire which I stapled to the page.

For my remaining embellishments I used a mix of ‘Legendary’ Die Cut Ephemera pieces; a few ‘Boys Rule’ Accessory Stickers and some of the ‘Legendary’ Enamel Dots. Then I finished off my page with some black ink splatters.

365 New Days | Legendary Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone!! It’s Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back sharing another layout with you.  This time it’s a much requested boy themed layout, and of course I had to use the amazing Legendary collection!! At the beginning of every year I create a page for each of my four children as an introduction to the year, setting the scene and telling them what I hope for them in the preceeding year. I used a stunning cut file from Cut To You which was so perfect for the theme of my layout for Sam (who is aged 13).

I created my background with a water activated ink pad.  I stamped on my craft mat, sprayed it with water and then did the reverse packaging technique where you place the cardstock onto the mat several times. The key is to not add too much water, especially if you’re not using gesso. I also used a stencil and foam pad to blend the same ink.  My final mixed media touch was to splatter with some sparkly water activated powder and white iridescent ink spray.  The reuse tis a very subtle layered background behind the cut file.

I backed the cut file with patterned paper that was not overly blue, so that I could use blue in my background to make the colours pop! I used Wild One, Total Legend, Brave Heart and All Star. For the stars I cut them in One Way and popped them up with dimensional adhesive.  I love the interest that it provides, especially as everything else on the cut file is glued flat to the background paper.

Its not often that I incorporate my photo into the backing of a cut file, but for this one the open “A” was perfect, especially as my photo of Sam was taken at our favourite beach.  One of my daughters was also in the photo, and my placing him in the cut file I was able to cut her out.  I love that I’m still able to see the rocks, beach and sea.

I embellished very simply with Accessory Stickers, Die Cut Ephemera, and Enamel Dots.  I didn’t want to take away from the cut file and especially the photo, and I think the small clusters work well to achieve this.
