Adventure Awaits | The Great Escape | Kel Moore

Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends and welcome back to the blog.

It’s Kel here today and Im so excited to be sharing my first page with the brand new The Great Escape collection.

There is so much to love with this new line…..the colours, the versatility of what it can be used for, the icons, the chipboard… I could go on and on!

I decided to scrapbook this photo of my son on his way to his first school camp…here it is..

After looking through the collection and seeing the trees, mountains etc, I decided I wanted to create a scene of a ‘camp,’ so I cut a log cabin on my silhouette and made it the main element on my page..

I really wanted to use a brown woodgrain for my cabin so I used a paper from the Boys Rule collection, along with papers from The Great Outdoors A5 paper stack then added some hand stitching to create texture.

I decided I needed a paper to ground my cabin so I used the paper called ‘Horizon’ to cut apart the blue mountain tops, distressing the edges then putting them back together.

Next, I layered up my photo with papers from both the A5 paper stack and the orange paper called Happy Camper. I cut a small banner from the Wild Life paper and added it to the top left of my photo and used a sticker from the Accessory Sticker Sheet to pop out from the right side of my photo.

Under my photo I added a compass from the Ephemera Pack and a label for my date.

I then made a road leading from the cabin up to the top of my page using more of the tree die cuts from the Ephemera pack, along with the mountains and the ‘Fun Times’ sign.

For the title I used the word ‘Adventure ‘ from the Chipboard Stickers, popping a lantern from underneath it…I like how that looks! I anchored the title to the page using the ‘Horizon’ and ‘Journey’ papers.

I finished off my page with some of the stars from both the Chipboard Stickers and the Puffy Star Stickers.

Thankful | Heart & Home | Kellie Moore

Hi everyone, I am so happy to be back today sharing my first layout with the brand new ‘Heart and Home’ collection. This range has a very autumnal, warm colour palette and I think is a very versatile collection to document all the things you are grateful for in your life…hence I chose a family photo to scrapbook. Here is my page..

I couldn’t decide which papers I wanted to use so I decided to try and get a variety of them onto my page so I started with cutting some zig zag / chevron shapes in 3 of the different papers, and to use the woodgrain paper for my background…. I LOVE woodgrain papers ..they add such a nice texture to a page.

Next, I double mounted my photo and placed it on top of the text paper with some foam dimension.

I knew I had to use some of the florals on my page so I created a visual triangle around my page… one on the top right of my photo, one to the bottom left and one at the top left of my page. I used florals from the Floral Ephemera Pack and also fussy cut some from the ‘Bountiful’ paper.

In the top right cluster I used some pieces from the Ephemera Pack..

For my title I used one of the Titles with Gold Foil and popped a house from the Ephemera Pack underneath it… then fussy cut some hearts from the ‘Gather’ patterned paper and placed them under my title.

At the top of my page on top of the floral cluster I used a word sentiment from the ‘Gather’ paper to finish it off.. and also used some Puffy Hearts around my page.

My finsishing touch was a little hand stitching…love little details!

To the Moon and Back | No Limits | Danni Visser

Hi Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with a fun, bright layout featuring my two favourite little people and the incredible No Limits collection. This week the team were challenged to make a layout with multiple photos or shaped photos, so I decided to do both. I am really happy with how this one turned out, I hope you like it too!

One of the easiest ways to use shaped photos is to use a cutfile. I have had this star patterned one sitting in my stash for ages, so now was the perfect time to use it. It’s a combination cutfile/stitching template which gives an extra layer of detail and interest, but that’s completely optional.

I used the A5 paper stack, Eclipse 12×12 patterned paper and a couple of double-sided 3×4 cards to back all but two of the star shapes in the cutfile, which I saved for my photos. Just make sure to print the photos large enough so they will fit in the stars, then adhere the photos to the back of the cutfile and trim off the excess. My two littles were having a lovely time at the park this day, even though the weather was a bit gloomy!

Once my cutfile was backed I added some adhesive foam to the back of the stars to add dimension. For the stitching, I used the stitching template part of the cutfile to cut the stitching holes into The Big Bang 12×12 patterned paper, before stitching with embroidery thread using a chain-stitching technique. This can be quite time consuming, but I love all the extra texture this provides.

Once I had finished the stitching, I added some tiny delicate splatters of gold mist and white acrylic ink all around the outside of my stitched pattern. Then I adhered the cutfile down within the stitched pattern. Make sure to use a good amount of adhesive if you do something like this, as the backed cutfile is quite heavy.

For the title I decided to use the gorgeous ‘To the Moon and Back’ piece from the chipboard stickers and adhere it right in the centre of the largest star. I then did the same with two of the larger epoxy wood buttons and two of the other stars to add some more circular elements. To embellish, I added some more of the smaller chipboard pieces and layered them over the cutfile.

For finishing touches, I added lots of chipboard sticker and puffy sticker stars all around the outside of the layout, followed by three tiny word phrases from the accessory stickers. I love the contrast of the bright colours of this layout against the neutral woodgrain background. I hope you enjoyed joining me for this layout today. Take care and happy scrapping!

Egg Hunt | No Limits Collection | Danni Visser

Hi Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with an Easter themed layout using the incredible No Limits collection. This collection may not be traditionally themed towards tEaster, but with a little creativity you can challenge yourself to create a gorgeous holiday layout!

For this one I took inspiration from the exploding star pattern on Big Bang 12×12 patterned paper and decided to add some sparkle using hand stitching. I pierced holes following the starburst pattern on the paper, then threaded them using a running stitch with some teal and metallic silver embroidery thread, adding sparkly sequins into the stitching as I went. I added some further interest by adding some ink splatters in soft blue and metallic silver to match the thread I used previously.

Stars are a great universal shape that can be used for pretty much any kind of layout. I took it one step further and cut my three photos into star shapes, placing one of them within the star shape on the patterned paper and the other two backed using the A5 paper stack patterned papers. I also added dimensional foam to give them added height.

For my title I wanted to add something small as my layout was already quite busy, so I took the yellow paper from the A5 paper stack and a small alphabet die set to custom make a small title. I used the same die set and yellow craft foam to create a foam backing for each of the letters, then glued them to the paper letters for a DIY dimensional alpha title. Super easy and effective!

To further embellish my photos I added some larger star outline shapes from the die cut ephemera and layered them over my two smaller photos, rotating them slightly for an interesting layered effect. To finish off the layouts, I added some small stars from the chipboard stickers, followed by some small die cut ephemera stars and finally a couple of puffy sticker stars. I scattered these around each of my star-shape photos for extra detail and visual interest.

Love This | Unforgettable Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello everyone! It’s Melissa here and I’m thrilled to be back with a layout I created for Throwback Thursday!  I always love when its my turn to use an older collection, and today I decided to go back to 2019 when life was what we considered normal! I created my layout with the beautiful Unforgettable collection, and I specifically wanted to challenge myself to use a cut apart patterned paper as a full sheet.  The paper I chose to use is ‘Pretty Bits’ and ordinarily I would cut this paper up to use as layers, or use it to back a cut file.  The photos are of my youngest daughter Ava with a friend who my little girls consider to be their older sister!

I used black embroidery thread to stitch between the lines of the different papers and I love how it created a pocket page look, but without the pockets.

I decided to place my two photos on two patterns that were small and repeating.  I used papers from the ‘6×8 Inch Paper Stack’ and distressed the edges.  I also cut out some of the smaller cut aparts from the paper stack because the smaller size was perfect to use as embellishments for my page.

The top left hand part of the paper had a very subtle black floral on white which was perfect for my title.  I used several of the ‘Clear Stickers’ and even layered them to create a mixed media look.  I created my title from two of the ‘Foam Title Stickers’ and placed them directly on top of the clear stickers.  I love how this turned out, and I added a fussy cut butterfly.

For my journalling I used a circular frame from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera’ pack and I glued it onto the striped side of ‘Sprightly’ so that I could use the lines for my hand writing.  I embellished with a ticket from the Die Cut Ephemera, a ‘Flair Button’ and another fussy cut butterfly.

The bottom left had side part of the paper had 4 larger butterflies printed on it.  I fussy cut the same butterflies from another piece of the same paper, and then adhered them by glueing the centres and lifting up the wings and adding dimension.  I also added lots of subtle shimmer to the butteries, and several other features on the layout.
