Pursue | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, I know its February already, but this is my first post for this year and I just wanted to say Happy New Year!  I hope that 2023 is off to a great start for you!  Today I’m sharing a layout that I created with the beautiful Storyteller collection.  Every year I create a layout about myself for my word for the year.  This year my word is Pursue.  I used an alpha cut file from Just Nick Studio, and welded the letters together on Cricut Design Space.

I used used Cross It Off for my background paper and decided to hand stitch around the crosses in white embroidery thread. Love how this adds some subtle texture.

I created backed my title cut file with papers from the A5 Paper Stack.  I always love to feature beautiful papers.  I used several of the beautiful Chipboard Stickers to embellish around my photo.  My background is created with distress oxide ink and the trusty packaging technique.

I love the Die Cut Ephemera in this collection.  The little banner with flowers was perfect on the title.  I used one the phrases from the Accessory Stickers too.

Love Our Story | Storyteller | Kellie Moore

Hello everyone and welcome back to the CVS blog.

Today I’m sharing a page using the new ‘Storyteller’ collection with a focus on florals.

I decided I wanted to divide my page into thirds, using blue, yellow and red as the focus for each section. To start my page, I used a strip of white cardstock to stamp florals using my distress oxides..the red is Candied Apple, the blue is Faded Jeans and the yellow is Fossilized Amber.

I chose 3 of our wedding photos and printed them in black and white so they didnt compete with my colours. I wanted to have something to pop out from behind my photos, so I used some gauze that I coloured with the same inks…this adds a nice texture to the page.

Next, I went through all the embellishments..the ephemera pack, the chipboard, accessory stickers, wooden buttons and puffy hearts and pulled out all the colours that matched and icons that would work…making sure I used florals in each cluster.

While going through my collection I also found a yellow and blue stitched heart from previous page so I included these as well..

For my title, I used the Foam Title Stickers, placing one word on each line of the page… including some of the black foam hearts…perfect for a wedding page right?!

Sunshine on my Mind | Sunkissed | Kellie Moore

Hello CVS fans, Kellie back here today with a layout for Throwback Thursday.

When I was thinking about which older collection I wanted to pull out I went with ‘Sunkissed’…..the bright colours in this collection really are my jam.

To start my page, I decided I wanted to create a sunburst design on the left side of my page.  I chose the paper ‘Fun in the Sun’ from the collection and a paper called ‘Home Grown’ from the ‘These Days’ collection. I then hand stitched these down on my page to create more texture. I decided I didnt want to leave between the rays white so I used some distress oxides to colour my page.

To create the illusion of clouds I made a fake stencil with a piece of cardstock and again used distress oxides in pink and blues down the right side of my page.

I decided to use a cutfile for my title and instead of using it as a straight word as it was designed I decided to cut it up so I could curl it around my photo which I cut into a circle and backed using some of the papers from the A5 paper stack. Again I used the ‘Fun in the Sun’ paper to back the word ‘Sunshine’. To add more interest to it I used some of the floral ephemera and puffy stickers between the letters.

To embellish the right side of my page I made a large embellishment cluster with a bunch of elements from the ephemera pack and some of the puffy stickers….. puffy stickers always have my heart! I also added some of the word phrases from the Accessory Sticker Sheet to the bottom of my page to finish it off.

I love how bright and summery this page turned out….yellows, blues and pink… YUM!

Sweet Heart | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, Melissa here and today I have another layout that I created with the gorgeous new Storyteller collection!!  For this layout I really felt like hand stitching so I selected several of the Pocket Cards to stitch over the printed design.  My photos are from Brielle’s 8th birthday in April of this year.

Whenever I use several of the pocket cards I go with a grid design to feature as many cards as possible.  For this layout I chose two cards that were patterned paper to house the photos, and the other four cards feature beautiful design elements that could be further embellished. I used Little Love for my background because I love the beautiful yellow and subtle pattern – perfect for featuring all of the cards. The “Love This” card was calling out for me to hand stitch around it.  I pierced holes around the edge of the words, and then stitched with the full 6 threads of the skein. Simple yet effective.

For the card with lots of adorable hearts, I stitched around the edge of each heart with 3 threads of the skein.  This resulted in a thinner stitches (due to less thread), and I think was more appropriate to the smaller design.

For the card housing my journaling I stitched around the speech bubble in navy blue thread to match the colour on the card.  I love how the stitching looks, and I embellished with a Die Cut Ephemera phrase and a butterfly.

For my title I used two of the Foam Title Stickers and for my embellishment I used several Chipboard Sticker buttons, Die Cut Ephemera Butterflies, and Puffy Heart Stickers.  I love how this finished my layout and I even surprised myself by not adding any mixed media, not even splatters!!

I hope I’ve encouraged you to use the pocket cards and embellish them with stitching!

Love Our Story | Storyteller | Kellie Moore

Hey friends and welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla blog.

Today I am back to share my second page using the new Storyteller collection…. here it is….

When I sat down to create, I was really drawn to the script chipboard words “Love Our Story” so I decided that was what I was going to use for the title of my page. I substituted the ‘our’ word for some smaller alphas from my stash as they fit better with my design.

The photo I am scrapbooking is the our first photo as a family of 5….and I really do love our story….. Ollie was the icing on our cake.

Once again I have been loving hand stitching on my pages…. so I diecut some hearts from the A5 paper stack in three different sizes and layered them up, adding the stitching which brings so much texture to my page.

 

I always love the woodgrain papers in CVS collections, so today I used the ‘Cross it Off’ paper as my main piece… neutral but effective in popping off all the colours I was using…to add more detail I used a scalloped border punch to add strips down the sides from the navy paper found in the A5 paper stack.

To finish off my page I added some butterflies from the ‘Fly Away’ patterned paper, a camera cut from one of the ‘Pocket Cards’ and some word phrases from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet.’ I thought the bottom of the page was a bit empty so I cut out the hearts from the border strip found on the ‘Story Time’ paper and made a strip along the bottom of the page combining them with the ‘Puffy Stickers’.

Love You | These Days collection | Kellie Moore

Good morning CVS fans, I hope you are all well.

Today I am sharing a page with you that I created using the beautiful ‘These Days’ collection….documenting a picture of my hubby and I.

To start my page I decided I wanted to create a background using circles. I pulled out the A5 paper stack and cut a bunch of circles, then decided to give them more interest on my page I handstitched around them.

Next, I wanted to add some layers behind my photo so again I used a few different papers from the A5 paper stack and added a layer of white tissue paper to add a different texture. Next I cut two frames from the ‘Wall of Fame’ patterned paper and stuck them out from each side of my photo.

To start embellishing my page, I cut some florals from the ‘Home Grown’ paper and added them to the top left and bottom right of my photo to create a diagonal flow…..can anyone else not get enough of Zoe’s florals?!!

For my title I used the ‘Love’ black foam sticker from the ‘Foam Title Stickers’ then a stamp from my stash. Along the bottom of my photo you can see I used a mug and typewriter from the ‘Clear Sticker Sheet.’

To finish off my page, I also added some of the ‘ Wood Epoxy Buttons’ into my clusters.

You Are Awesome | No Limits collection | Guest designer – Kellie Moore

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla blog.
For today’s page I decided I wanted to create my own background using some Distress Oxides so I chose the colours Evergreen Bough, Chipped Sapphire and Fossilized Amber which match with the ‘No Limits collection’. To add them to my white cardstock I simply added the oxide to some plastic packaging, spritzed them with some water then pushed the plastic down on to my page. I placed the colour more to the right hand side of the page where I wanted to place my photo.
To balance the page I added a strip of the ‘Latitude’ paper to the left hand side of the page with a slight strip of black cardstock showing through. This also balances my black and white photo.
For my photo I added some different papers from the ‘A5 paper stack’ and popped my photo up on dimensional foam.
I decided to cut some hearts from the papers and added some hand stitching around them to create some texture. I placed the hearts and the top left and bottom right of my photo.
Next, to finish off the embellishing around my photo, I added pieces from the Chipboard Sheet, Ephemera pack and some of the Wood Epoxy Stickers.
For my title, I used the ‘Awesome’  from the ‘Chipboard Sheet’ and I decided I wanted it darker so I simply used a Sharpie to colour it black.
The page felt very right heavy so I decided the top left needed something so I used a tag from the ‘Ephemera’ pack, another stitched heart and ‘You rock my world’ from an A5 paper.

To the Moon | No Limits collection | Guest designer – Kellie Moore

Hello CVS fans and welcome back to the blog today to see my 2nd creation using the new ‘No Limits’ collection.

For this layout I decided I wanted to make a big rocket for the main focus of my page. I took one of the rockets from the ephemera pack and recreated it using different papers from the collection.

Now, I am a BIG fan of hand stitching on my layouts. I love the texture it adds and I actually find it relaxing… I know this is not everyones cup of tea as it is time consuming. You can see I have stitched in co-ordinating threads on my rocket and it really helps to make the rocket pop from the page. To finish the rockets off I also added some of the wood epoxy stickers and puffy stickers …so fun!

To add to the ‘space’ theme I created some clouds to the top of my layout. I just used white cardstock and free hand cut them out…again you will see I stitched my clouds. I then cut a moon out of the ‘Orbit’ paper and then added a bunch of stars to the top of my page both from the chipboard sheet and some of the puffy stickers.

For my title I used ‘Love You’ from the Die Cut Titles then for ‘Moon’ I just cut apart some of the other words to make it work!

I backed my photo with a piece of the ‘Latitude’ paper….yellow is one of my favourite colours in scrapbooking…it helps to make the photo stand out on my page.

Lastly I added a few stickers from the ‘Accessory Stickers’ under my photo and thats it!

I love how this page turned out and I hope you do too!

Memories | These Days collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a hand-stitched layout featuring the stunning These Days collection! For this beautiful title, I used a stitching cut file from Paige Evans. Instead of using an electronic cutting machine, however, I printed out the image and used a paper piercer to poke the holes by hand. Then, using a variety of coordinating colored floss, I chain-stitched the title. While three days of stitching was certainly a time commitment, I think the end results were worth it!

I backed the entire layout with a stunning wood grain paper called Pretty Posies and then reached into the A5 paper stack for these beautiful banners and mat behind my photo. The florals I’ve clustered on either side of the photo are fussy cut from the Home Grown patterned paper as well as the floral ephemera pack. Even those tiny little scattered florals are fussy cut! I do enjoy prepping new collections by fussy cutting all the florals first!

On opposite sides of my stitched title I added florals from the ephemera pack that I fussy cut the white border off of, with little fabric hearts for a bit of added texture. That is the name of the game with this layout! Stitching is a brilliant way to add texture and dimension to a layout without adding a lot of bulk to your albums! I finished off the layout with gold Nuvo drops around the clusters for extra detail and a bit of gold ink splatter. My favourite part was adding my journaling to the ‘O’, such a fun and unexpected place for journaling!

Always Happy | These Days Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, Its Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back sharing my second layout created with the beautiful new “THESE DAYS” collection.   For this layout I really wanted to create a layout mixing two patterned papers as my background, and I chose “TAKE FLIGHT” and “FAMILY TIES”.  I love that one is subtle and the other is bold.  My photo is of my daughter and her TY soft toy collection, and the colours in my photo were perfect for the soft colours in These Days.

 

My sewing machine is broken at the moment, and ordinarily I would have stitched between the two papers, but I actually love that I distressed the edge of the white polka dot paper and left it lifted.  I added mixed media with inks and shimmery splatters, predominantly on the white paper to tie the two papers together.

I backed my photo with papers from the “A5 PAPER STACK” and embellished with lots of flowers and some leaves from the “FLORAL EPHEMERA”.  I also cut out one of the small cut aparts from the A5 Paper Stack and used it as additional journalling.

I fussy cut lots of butterflies from “TAKE FLIGHT” and placed them to look as though they flew over my photo.  I glued the centres down and lifted up the wings with dimensional adhesive.

The “FOAM TITLE STICKERS” were perfect for my title, and I love how the two words look nestled together.
