Star of the Week | Legendary Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey friends its Michelle back here today with a new layout share featuring the awesome Legendary Collection. I was so inspired by our recent Stars and Stripes theme that I couldn’t help but use that as the base for this layout. Stars are the perfect embellishment for scrapping a layout of Leila’s ‘Star of the Week’ photo from last year.

I chose a fun new cut-file design from CUT to YOU that features 3 different star designs and resized them to create different focus points for the layout. I cut all 3 designs out on white cardstock and backed the larger design using a mix of different patterns and colours to compliment the stars within the collection. Papers used – ALL STAR, EPIC TALES, EXPLORER, OFF BEAT, TOTAL LEGEND and WILD ONE.

I adhered the star to the left side of the layout using foam sheeting to raise it off the background paper (OUTDOORS TYPE) and added the super cute photo of Leila to the left backed with a piece of BRAVE HEART and a sticker tab from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

I created the title using a cardstock title piece and alpha stickers from previous collections. LOVE LOVE LOVE those white alphas! There’s a sprinkling of stars, both fussy cut and ephemera, on top of the big star also.

I kept the other 2 star designs open and adhered half of each design to the edges of the layout, creating open clusters and tying all the elements of the layout together. In the top cluster I added the ‘Hey You’ banner sticker from the sticker sheet and a mix of fussy cut and ephemera stars.

In the bottom cluster I added pieces from the ephemera pack, fussy cut and ephemera stars plus a word sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet. Lastly a splattering of gold colour shine to finish it off.

This is Love | Happiness Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone,

It’s Raquel here with you today sharing with you a layout for our ‘sewing’ theme here on the CVS blog. One of my go to techniques on my layouts are to add machine sewing to my pages, so for todays layout I decided to give myself a little creative challenge and hand stitch instead. Hand stitching is something I do not particularly enjoy doing, but I always LOVE the finished outcome.

 

Here is the layout that I created to share with you today:

For todays layout I used the beautiful Happiness collection. It has to be hands down one of my favourite CVS collections. I have used the Happiness Large Die Cut heart as the main focal piece of this layout. I used the backing patterned piece as it came and simply cut away the pink pattern away from the outline so I just had the heart. I then adhered the heard to my layout using foam sheets to give it some dimension.

To embellish this page I have used mainly the floral ephemera from the die cut pack – aren’t they just stunning. I would love a whole pack of just the flowers!! I used a combination of foam and liquid adhesive to embellish my page. The photos are a series of selfies that my daughter and I took together. She is just the cutest and loves a good selfie. I printed these 4 to a page and slightly smaller on my Canon Selphy. I normally edit my photos is an app like Pic Tap Go or Pic Collage first before I print anything out. I then adhered the photos to white paper and matted the whole strip on the Expressive paper.

The tiny word stickers in the 6×12 accessory sticker sheet are a great way to add that special touch to an embellishment cluster. Here I have used the words ‘you are beautiful’ to finish that group of embellishments.

My title for this layout is using the Die cut titles pack in the collection. I adhered these words using a foam adhesive and I love how they popped off the page, especially because the navy is such a contrast to the brights. The heart near the ‘my happiness label’ is a clear sticker that I have stuck onto some white cardstock. I will do this when I want the clear sticker to be a feature that stands out.

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, the theme of todays post was sewing. So yep, I brought out my needle and a hot pink embroidery thread and got to work. To ensure my stitched border was nice and straight I added a light grey lead line using a ruler. I then used a piercing tool to pierce the holes, trying to keep them a similar distance apart. It did take a while I admit, and hats off to all those who hand stitch regularly on pages, it is not something I would do a lot – but I do love how it turned out.

Sweet Easter | Happiness Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello its Michelle here today with my first layout share this month. I hope this post finds you safe and well during the Easter break. This weekend is looking a little different, and a lot quieter than previous years so I thought what better way to brighten it up than to create something Easter related using the cheerful HAPPINESS Collection. Full of wonderful happy colours to brighten our moods.

I chose a sweet cut file from CUT to YOU, a basket thats full of eggs reminiscent of most Easter mornings after the big fluffy bunny has been and left a wonderful mess. As Leila is getting older this may be on of the last years in our house that we can share in the joy of the Easter Bunny with her. Lets hope we get at least one more..

I started my creative process by cutting the design out a few different ways. First was the basket using the woodgrain pattern on the BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL paper. I’ve cut both the detailed design of the basket and also the backing piece using the same paper to replicate the look of a real basket. Next I cut the eggs multiple times so that I could individually back them with pattern paper then layer them together in the basket at different heights. If only Easter eggs looked this good!

 

 

This layout documents one of many fond memories – the excitement and sheer concentration of opening all the hunting eggs to see whats inside. I layered 2 photos together, both backed with a piece of EXPRESSIVE paper with some fussy cut florals layered to the right.

I used the SPRINKLES paper that reminds me of confetti for the bow on top of the basket, along with a lighter hint of pink from the MEADOW paper. The eggs are backed using MEADOW, LITTLE THINGS, GOOD VIBES, SO FRESH and EXPRESSIVE.

I fussy cut butterflies from both the 12×12 and 6×8 versions of BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL along with a floral cluster from the SO FRESH wreath to layer along the edge of the basket rim. I also tucked in a couple of leaf strands and stapled tiny hearts to the eggs from the EPHEMERA pack.

The title is made up of a CARDSTOCK TITLE word and alphabet letters from older collections.

Theres a few more tiny fussy cut flowers scattered here and there from both the MEADOW paper and 6×8 version of BOTANICAL BLISS and a good splattering of gold colour shine to finish it off. Once the ink was dry I trimmed the edges of the white cardstock and adhered the layout to a 12×12 piece of BOTANICAL BLISS to bring all the colours together.

Our INCREDIBLE Kid | Legendary | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle back again for one more scrappy share this month because I couldn’t end the month without sharing one more layout using the awesome Legendary Collection! This one was so fun to create, I even enjoyed all that intricate fussy cutting

I started with 2 pieces of the amazing aztec mandala inspired pattern paper – EXPLORER. I fussy cut the outer ring and inner star (which ended up being covered up) from one piece of the pattern paper, then on the second piece I cut only the middle section of triangles on 2 sides so that they would pop up. I then sandwiched it all together with some white cardstock as per below

Bottom layer – cardstock

2nd layer – full pattern paper piece with only the triangles cut in the middle ring and popped up using raised glue dots

Top layer – outer ring and inner star shape adhered with foam tape

Next I worked on the photo and journalling in the centre of the layout. For this I used a piece of the reverse EXPLORER paper combined with a frame from the EPHEMERA PACK, and cards cut from the TOTAL LEGEND & EPIC TALES cut apart papers. These are layered together with the photo and adhered to the layout using foam tape.

I created the title using words from the DIE CUT TILES pack and an EPHEMERA piece

To the right of the middle cluster I added pits from the EPHEMERA PACK, ACCESSORY STICKERS sheet and EPIC TALES paper

And lastly added clusters of stars (my 2nd favourite design element after florals) to the top right and bottom left of the layout to create a diagonal effect. I also added a few enamel dots and splatters of gold colour shine to finish it off.

Hello Sweet Smile | Throwback Thursday – Midnight collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Crafty Friends its Michelle back here today with another instalment of Throwback Thursday. For this creation I was given the task of using one of our more recent older collections, if you could call them that HAHA. I chose to create something with the Midnight collection as that is one that I haven’t touched for a little while. I focused on using the Large Die Cut without the backing sheet which you can find HERE in the store

I started the layout by removing the die cut from the backing sheet – its lightly adhered so that you can remove and create your own way. I used similar patterns and colours to what is already on the backing sheet along with some vellum and left the outer rim open. I then adhered it to the INSPIRED pattern paper using foam tape. I LOVE the mixed media effect this pattern paper gives a layout which is perfect for this ‘clean’ scrapper.

I layered a couple of frames from the ephemera pack with a piece of pattern paper to create a base for my photo, then added multiple ephemera pieces and stickers to create one large cluster under the title.

At the top left of the layout I added a some florals from the sticker and ephemera packs, a couple of enamel dots, heart and tab sticker.

I replicated similar items along the bottom right to create a diagonal effect on the layout.

Lastly a sprinkling of my favourite gold colour shine to finish it all off.

Super Star | Legendary Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle back here today with my newest layout share featuring the BRAND NEW collection to Cocoa Vanilla Studio – Legendary. OMG It is one heck of a collection! The bold masculine colours and designs are perfect for documenting both every day BOY themed layouts, but also sweet pages of little school rockstars!

Most of you all would know by now I generally only scrap layouts of Leila, so boy themed collections are a little tricky to navigate. But once I find a common theme within the papers and embellishments that work with anything other than boy related photos I run with it. Today I went a little nuts with the stars, my 2nd favourite design element to create with after florals. I chose a cut file that worked with the design I had in mind from CUT to YOU and a pattern paper  OFF BEAT  to use for the background that wasn’t white cardstock.

I focused on backing all the Stars of the cut file using both the star pattern paper  ALL STAR  and a couple of complimentary patterns  OFF BEAT & WILD ONE . I also added vellum to some of the smaller circles to soften all the colour that was popping off the page

I created a photo mat using a roughly torn reverse piece of  EPIC TALES  layered with corner pieces of the  OFF BEAT  pattern and a tag cut in half from the bottom cut apart section of  EPIC TALES  . The orange noteworthy tab is from the  EPHEMERA  pack . This whole piece is layered and raised up with foam sheets.

To the left of the photo I added the title using some of the  DIE CUT TITLE  words plus a couple of  ACCESSORY STICKER  strips

Along the bottom right I added a few extra  EPHEMERA  pieces with some cut file off cuts. Lastly I scattered stars from the  EPHEMERA  pack along with some  ENAMEL DOTS  and gold colour shine to add some finishing touches.

You HEART Me | More than Words | Michelle Stokes

Hello Friends it’s Michelle back today with my final share for this wonderful month of LOVE. I stepped back in time and used the beautiful More than Words for this lovey dovey share along with a family photo from a few years back. Love the sweet pastel colours within this collection that give a soft feminine feel to the layout.

I chose a fun cut file from CUT to YOU (designed by DT Member Gwen) to use as the main focal point on the layout and backed it with multiple pattern papers from the 6×6 paper pad within this collection. I used a loose rule of 3’s for this to ensure I had a good balance of colours and patterns = 3 of each pattern or colour tone spaced out amongst the letters, words and hearts. I backed the entire layout on a 12×12 piece of the COLLAGE paper (reverse side) plus a little pop of the same pattern used as a layer within the photo stack.

I used foam tape to adhere the entire file to the backing cardstock – this gave it a slight pop of dimension off the page.

I adore this photo of us, Leila was so little compared to how giant she feels now. I layered some scrap pieces from previous layouts under the photo stack – nothing goes to waste here! Theres a cluster of sorts formed to the right of the photo using pieces from the ephemera pack. Love the tiny floral bits in this collection.

Another little cluster using similar elements over on the left of the page, incorporating a couple of stickers – one of which was fussy cut from a larger sticker.

Another mini cluster at the top of the layout to finish off the visual triangle I was hoping to achieve with such a ‘large and in charge’ type of cut file in the background. I really love how it all turned out, and felt it was complete after a sprinkling of my trusty gold colour shine.

Life is short, Eat the Cake | Make a Wish | Michelle Stokes

A big Hello to you scrappy friends! It’s Michelle back here today with a new layout share featuring an older collection that holds a sweet spot in my heart – Make a Wish. I love that this collection is perfect to document birthday memories, but is versatile enough to just create something soft, sweet and feminine. This layout documents Leila’s most recent birthday, the last in single digits.

I’d been holding onto this fun cut file from CUT to YOU for a little while now, ready and waiting for the perfect birthday photos. I wanted to keep the layout ‘fuss free’ without the massive clusters I’ve created in the past. I started with a full sheet of that wonderful woodgrain (reverse side of FRESH CUT) for the background of the layout. I added a couple of rough torn strips of HIP HOORAY to the bottom third of the layout to use as a base for the cut file and photos.

Next I cut the cut file out on white cardstock and backed it using my ultimate favourite paper of all time DAYDREAM and adhered that to the left side of the layout using foam tape for a little extra dimension,

To the right of the cut file I adhered the photos using a little of the PARTY DOTS paper to layer underneath. I also added an accessory sticker, ‘beautiful’ word strip from the PARTY MIX cut apart paper and the ‘make a wish’ came from the barcode strip on one of the papers.

Above the photos I added a cake that was cut from the PARTY MIX paper, an accessory word sticker and crystal heart and sequins from the bits & bobs pack, plus some stars from the ephemera pack.

Lastly this bottom mini cluster created with leaves, numbers strip and star from the ephemera pack, sequins from the bits & bobs plus the hat and fabulous ticket from the PARTY MIX paper. I also added a sprinkling of gold colour shine and called it done. I had so much fun creating this layout while my sweet nephew watched along asking questions about the process. I think both him and Leila might be ready for a little crafting class of their own.

Merry & Bright | Unforgettable Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hi Everyone It’s Michelle back here with a new festive share for the month of December. I’ve used the Unforgettable collection to document a sweet moment of Leila in front of the Christmas tree last year, right before she ripped into all the presents. The colours within this collection are perfect for documenting any occasion, even Christmas!

I chose a fun BIG cut file from CUT to YOU to used as the base of this layout and backed the open pieces of the letters using papers from the 6×8 paper stack. Perfect small designs that work wonderfully with intricate cut files. I couldn’t choose one pattern to be the backing piece for the layout, so I chose the PRETTY BITS paper for all its wonderful colourful designs and added some of the grey GLORIOUS in place of the butterflies.

The patterns I used to back the cut file with are SPRIGHTLY, NATURAL BEAUTY, GARLAND, GLORIOUS, LACEWING & STORY TELLER

Once all three of the main parts to the layout were sandwiched together ( cut file, cardstock and backing pattern paper) I added the photo and embellishments. I added a couple of layers behind the photo to tie all the colours together – FORGET ME NOT, STORY TELLER & LACEWING. These are from the smaller 6×8 paper stack with the addition of the pink ephemera piece and heart from a previous cut file. The floral piece at the top of the photo has been fussy cut from the 6×8 glorious paper

I added one main floral cluster to the left of the photo using the large floral ephemera piece and a couple of extras tucked under and adhered with different foam tape. This added slight dimension at different heights to really make the layers pop.

Along the bottom of the cut file I added an extra floral piece, cut apart word, accessory sticker, clear sticker and some enamel dots. Lastly a splattering of gold ink and I called it done.

The Sweet Life | Unforgettable | Amanda Baldwin

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends!

Amanda here, joining you today with some super pretty UNFORGETTABLE inspiration! This week the Design Team have been asked to create scrapbook pages that feature pattern paper as the background – so no white cardstock! We’re aptly calling it ‘white out’ week! Here’s what I came up with…..

“The Sweet Life” 

Sweet indeed! What a delightful page!

You’ll spy that I used the beautiful woodgrain paper, CV-UF008 NATURAL BEAUTY as my background paper. However, once I started looking at all those pretty papers I just couldn’t stop at one – so.much.gorgeousness! Naturally, there are lots of pretty pattern papers featured on my layout today! Let’s take a better look….

Isn’t this just gorgeous?!! And truly, life couldn’t be any sweeter with my two darlings!

To the top of my layout, I added a one inch strip of that divine floral, CV-UF001 GLORIOUS. This paper makes me swoon every single time I lay eyes on it! Such a stunning floral design! And speaking of florals, I used that coordinating floral swag DIE CUT EPHEMERA piece to embellish the GLORIOUS trim, and act as an anchor for my title and overall design.

My large title is a digital cut file courtesy of Cut To You, and I have backed it with a few of the 6 x 8 PAPER PAD papers. ‘The Sweet Life’  papers happen to be the smaller variation of the B-side designs to CV-UF003 GARLAND and CV-UF005 LACEWING. Love!!! The 6 x 8 PAPER PAD is the perfect choice for backing cut files with!

I embellished my larger title with a few carefully selected pieces, the first of which was my photo cluster. I tucked my photo just beneath the edge of my title and attached them together with the ‘treasured’ ACCESSORY STICKER. I used another sticker beneath my photo, as well as a DIE CUT EPHEMERA tab to support my photograph. Here’s a closer look for you…

The Cocoa Vanilla Studio FLAIR BUTTONS are always amazing, and I added that sweet camera one to complete the look.

To balance my black & white photo on such a colourful page, and create that second point of interest to the title, I foam mounted that sweet DIE CUT EPHEMERA camera embellishment. Subtle, simple but so effective!

In keeping with the rule of three, and the sweet camera embellishments, I also featured the pretty black camera ACCESSORY STICKER. So cute!

The final adornment to that big title is the fussy cut the florals from pattern paper, CV-UF003 GARLAND. I foam mounted them just below the title, and ensured that they reflected the swag at the top of the page too. This really added that wow factor to my overall design.

The CV-UF008 NATURAL BEAUTY paper is so stunning that I had to use both sides of it. The pretty B-side (that striking black & white foliage print) trims the base of my layout. I ensured that the GARLAND floral arrangement overlapped this trim & in turn, created a more cohesive design. For a polished look I added the ‘best things in life…’ sentiment ACCESSORY STICKER and a good sprinkle of ENAMEL DOTS.

And there you have it! Beautiful, classic creating that highlights our gorgeous UNFORGETTABLE pattern papers!
