It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new layout for our Mother’s Day theme we have going on this week on the blog! I decided to document a special photo of my beautiful Mum and myself on Sydney Harbour when we went to the ballet a year ago. I pulled out the gorgeous Midnight collection to help me document this special memory.
I found a really lovely cut file designed by fellow team member Gwen from Cut To You, I cut it out from white cardstock and then backed the hearts at the top of the cut file with the pink side of the Shine Bright paper the Special word in the cut file, I backed with the ‘B’ side of the Inky Depths paper, I love that small soft floral side. Once it was all backed, I placed craft foam underneath both the hearts and the ‘Special’ word.
I chose the ‘B’ side of the Mixed Blessing paper for my background and also matted that piece with another sheet of the Inky Depths paper. I machine stitched around the entire edge to add some texture and interest. I placed the cut file title in the centre of the page and I cut a strip of the Bloom and Grow paper and placed it underneath the bottom of the cut file before I adhered it all down. I matted my photo in the orange part of the Shine Bright paper and added craft foam underneath the photo and mat, it fit perfectly just above the word ‘Special’ with one of the hearts from the cut file overlapping onto the photo also.
I tucked in one of the cute die-cut frames from the die-cut ephemera pack into the top of my photo, I then took one of the paint strip clear stickers and added it to white cardstock, I then fussy cut it out and tucked it into the right side of my photo. I also added one of the cute flair buttons here. The jar and flower chipboard piece fit perfectly there just above the ‘You’ in the cut file, I love how this looks here. I also tucked in one of the floral die-cuts to the left of the jar to bring in some more of the florals to the page. I also added a few chipboard hearts and also a clear sticker heart too. Lastly I added some of the accessory word and phrase stickers and the date stamp to finish off!
Thank you so much for stopping by the Cocoa Vanilla blog today! I hope you have plenty of Mother’s Day memories you can document!
Hey CVS friend, today I have some boy love to share! I have used the fab new Legendary collection.I have used a fun cut file from Silhouette Design store, I chose it so I could use more of the designs on one layout.
I cut my white card stock down to 10×10 inches and adhered it to the Wild One paper. Keeping to the rule of thirds, I chose three papers to paper piece the cut file, Wild One – yellow side, All Star paper and One Way paper. I used foam tape to adhere the finished cut file to create a 3D effect.I then added my photo and again with foam to create more height. I chose to create an embellishment cluster around my photo, using the die cut ephemera and accessory stickers. How gorgeous is the geometric bear I tucked behind my photo!I used the accessory stickers to add my subtitle/journalling.
I have used more foam tape to add die cuts to create more height and added some enamel dots under some of the die cuts.I love all these colours together but because I didn’t want my layout to look ‘too’ busy I was careful when it came to my embellishing.
And there you have it one super colourful and super fun boy layout! Thank you for stopping by today and have a wonderful week!
Hello Cocoa Vaniila friends and family! During INSD weekend, I shared a peek at this system that I was currently making in and so many of the ladies tuning in seemed really interested so here’s a spread in the book that I am using to document quarantine life using the Unforgettable collection!
These inserts measure 7.5×9 so there is plenty of space to make and explore new techniques in which is why it is one of my favorite mediums to play in right now. To start with this page, I quickly blended some flowers on the right side using some Distress Oxide ink pads and a stencil. Of course, most of this got covered up but I really like the pop of color behind the photo.
I printed my photo at 4×6, and it is a picture of some peonies some friends of mine sent me and I loved how lush and beautiful they were. After matting my photo on some scraps of paper – I love this particular project for stash busting – I went to work on picking out embellishments.
Because this is a closed book, I was wary about adding things that would be too dimensional so I stuck to the cardstock ephemera, accessory stickers and the clear stickers. I first chose a piece of paper to cover the entire left side since I had some ink showing through and added a strip of that same paper to the right side to repeat that pattern. Next, I created a loose grid on the left side using some cutaparts from the 6×8 paper pack as well as some stickers and die cuts. My title is from the Midnight collection title pack and I added a lot of clear stickers to fill in the empty space and add interest to my page.
On the left side, I stuck down my photo and then began embellishing it with the same elements that I used on the right – clear stickers, cardstock ephemera and the accessory sticker pack. There is a clear sticker that says “the story” so I used that to be a journaling spark and added my story about the flowers and what they meant to me and finished off this spread with a few more clear stickers around the page!
I hope you enjoyed this project and a peek at a fun new size. Having new materials like this one help to keep the hobby fresh and fun and I hope it inspired you to try something new!
Hey Creative friends, Gwen on the blog today with some more scrapbook inspiration. I have a special share for this one using the new ‘Legendary’ collection. It’s my sisters birthday today, so for this page, I really wanted to create a page for her and her fur-baby. I won’t be able to visit her for her birthday this year, so I thought this would be a nice way to help her feel special today.
For this page, I started with the ‘Wild One’ pattern paper as I really wanted to add some colour for this page. I’ve used it as a frame for my layout and also to back the cut file banner here. This cut file is part of the set that was designed by CUT to YOU for the Legendary collection and is available for FREE download here. If you don’t have a cutting machine, CUT to YOU offers a cutting service and ships worldwide. I’ve resized the banner piece as large I could to make it a background feature and used it as an anchor for the other elements in my page.
I’ve also used the ‘Off Beat’ B-Side pattern paper on the banner for contrast. For my photo, I’ve gone with a double mat, using the A-Side of the ‘Off Beat’ pattern paper and the pop of yellow from the B -Side of the ‘Wild One’ pattern paper. **Design Tip – I’ve only used 2 pattern papers for this page, but it looks like more because I’ve made sure to include and A and B sides of both.
With my large banner cut file centred on my page, I decided to offset my photo, pushing it slightly to the right. To balance out the page, I’m going to add my embellishing to the left. For this, I’ve gone with elements from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, starting with the largest elements first.
I’ve decided to go with the ‘Adventure Awaits’ Banner piece which mirrors the cut file shape and also doubles as my title. I’ve also added in some of the round elements from the die-cut pack for interest. I’ve added these into my layers. It was at this point that I wanted to add some more warmth to the page. To do this, I’ve dug deep into my stash and found some vintage ‘Life is Beautiful’ pieces of wood veneer. These are long gone from the store, but you could use any wood veneer you have in your stash to replicate this look.
With the larger embellishment pieces locked into place, I’ve gone back and added in some smaller details such as the die-cut stars and some typed sentiments from the ‘Accessory Sticker sheet’. I’ve also added some enamel dots from the collection as well as a sprinkling of sequins from my stash and called the layout complete.
I had a lot of fun making this page for my sister, I hope she likes it! I hope it has inspired you in some way. If you haven’t seen the new ‘Legendary’ collection, it’s shipping now from a store near you so be sure to check it out.
Anita here with you today sharing a layout using unforgettable collection to create this beach themed layout
This photo always reminds me of when I was young going camping, fishing and just having fun swimming with the puppies… so I was inspired to get out of my comfort zone and use a peach coloured cardstock instead of my normal white…
So I started off by applying some modeling paste through a stencil and having it digitally across my cardstock
Then I trimmed it down and matted it on sprightly pattered paper to add a little pink around the border then using my sewing machine I stitched a boarder.
To add some texture to my photo I add a stitched border.i then started layering pattern papers behind my photo I used pretty bits , sprightly and natural beauty Next I used my cameo to cut out a layered flower I designed using papers glorious, garland, lacewing and patterned paper from the 6×8 paper pad
And started layering them around the photo putting then into a cluster and tucking the leaves in randomly to spread the colours out.
Then using some of the butterflies, leaves and other bits from the ephemera I added them around my photo and in some of the layers.. I also used one for my title to add right beside my photo.
Next I I add some flicks of white paint and some of gold and to finish it off with some scattered enamel dots.
check out my process video on YouTube
I hope I’ve given you some inspiration using a different colour combination
Hello Friends. I am always anxious to see and use new lines beautifully designed by Zoe but after making few projects with them I start missing some older goodies. I like revisiting and rediscovering them again and again. This time I decided come back to “Wild at heart” line. You can still purchase some papers and embellishments from this collection to supplement your stash. I was running out of untouched neutral papers so I reached for wooden pattern from “You rock” collection.
I started with making 6 simple pockets out of papers with 3*4 cards. I even found a piece of vellum. I used sewing machine to mount the pockets to the base. They are not glued so you can still put elements inside them, including hidden journaling.
I used a selfie of myself but the whole page is about how my life looks when I am 36 hears old and how I was imagining it will look like when I was much younger. I tried to sum up if the expectations and plans I had 15 years ago and make some sort of check list. To be honest I was thinking my life will be different now but it’s still awesome. I live good and happy life and I am gratefull for that.
I decorated each pocket with ephemera pieces and some chipboard stickers leftovers. I also added butterflies fussy cut from one of the patterned papers. Title was made with foam stickers that were included into the “Unforgettable” collection.
Grid design is so fun to work with and I love coming back to it over and over again. And you? Do you like revisiting older lines are you work with them till the last piece and then you move to newer ones? Maybe you put leftovers to one bag and use the mix of collections to supplement other lines? I bet I sould still make at least one page with the very first CVS collections :D I am a hoarder for sure. Maybe it’s time to move back in time even more :)
Thank you for stopping by and see you soon during International Scrapbooking Day.
Hello again, it’s Melissa here and I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of April!! I hope you’re all well and finding some time to be creative.
I have another layout to share with the amazing ‘Legendary’ collection today, and its the toughest photo I’ve ever scrapped! This photo is of my brother in law Blair and our youngest daughter Ava a week after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2018. Blair passed away in October 2019, and I’ve held off documenting any photos from his journey until now, mostly because I felt that I couldn’t do his memory justice. But the Legendary collection speaks to me, and is perfect for documenting this special photo.
I knew that I wanted to fussy cut some of the stars from the ALL STAR paper and make a wreath to represent what a star Blair was during his nearly 1 year battle with cancer. I used a cut file from Paige Evans, and backed the stars with several papers from the collection (including WILD ONE, TOTAL LEGEND and Brave Heart) that had small repeating patterns. I also added some velum from my stash for some lightness. I matted my photo with ALL STAR and EPIC TALES and distressed the edges.
The OFFBEAT paper was perfect for my background as it helps direct the eye towards the centre of my page, and of course towards the photo. I did some subtle machine stitching in white thread, and just drew a circle with pencil and stitched around it abut 5 times. Its always easier to machine stitch when it doesn’t have to be perfect!!
I didn’t do much embellishing on this layout, mostly because all of the stars are embellishment! But I did add a tab sticker, word sticker, die cut ephemera tab, and some of the clear stickers. My title was easily made with two of the die cut words which I popped up on foam.
I will admit that I found this layout hard to make emotionally, but I’m so happy I finally managed to start scrapbooking Blair’s Epic Journey. Blair was an amazing bother in law who was able to present to the New Zealand Government the largest cancer petition in history, and made significant changes to cancer care in my country before he passed away. I’m so grateful for our wonderful memory keeping hobby, and I hope I’ve inspired you to scrapbook the photos and memories you find difficult too.
You can watch my process video for this layout here.
Hello friends and welcome back to another focus on stitching layout! I was so ready for the challenge of finding a way to include the texture of stitching and thread on my page because it is a technique I love to see on other’s work but not one I reach for very often and I have to say, I am pleased with the result.
Before I pulled out any embellishments or paper, I started by stitching a loose 3×3 grid. I’ve recently really been enjoying using more geometric and orderly designs on my page and they are a nice change from my more messy and loose layouts that I normally reach for. I used a light pink and a light blue thread to stitch semi straight lines to create my grid and left my threads on top to add a bit of messy factor to an otherwise not very messy layout. I am pleased to report that my sewing machine relatively cooperated and only made me curse existence once so I am calling that an improvement.
After I had my stitching finished and my bobbin threads neatly tucked away on the backside of my layout, I went to work on creating my base layer of embellishments. I printed my photo at 4 inches by 4 inches, which is a bit larger than I am used to using and set it in the middle of the page so I could build my clusters around it. Using the Midnight collection, I pulled out the die cut ephemera pack, the chipboard, the flair and the clear stickers and tried to mix all the textures in each section of my grid.
Once all of my smaller clusters were finished, I created a larger cluster around my photo of my husband and I and added my title underneath it using pieces from the chipboard pack. I love using the Midnight collection to scrapbook photos of my husband and I – the colors and sentiments in this line are perfect for photos like these. Finally, I cut and distressed the top and bottom edges of my page and added a strip of pattered paper for that Tazhi vibe and a bit of messiness.
That’s the page done! I hope you enjoyed this layout and it inspired you to pull out your sewing machine and to add some thread and texture to your own pages! Till next time, friends.
Hey scrappy friends, I hope you are doing well in these challenging times. Here is a layout to brighten your day! I have used the beautiful Unforgettable collection.
I have gone a little old school with this layout using lots of different shaped and coloured border strips. So get those those border punches out! If you have a cutting machine then you will be able to do the same. Mine measure 6 inches horizontally, so the 6×8 inch paper stack is perfect to use. I added a row of machine stitching on the border strips to add texture.
I added my 3.5×3.5 inch photo slightly off centre and with foam tape, I chose not to mat or frame my photo because I didn’t want to look too ‘busy’.
I then added my title using the Foam Title Stickers which really stands out against the colours chosen for the border strips.
I added a floral bunch to the top of my photo, I fussy cut some of the floral bunches from the Garland paper and also adding some smaller Die Cut Ephemera pack .
I did the same to the bottom of my photo creating another floral bunch.
I used two sentiment phrases from the Accessory Sheet and over the top I added a paint brush stroke from the Clear Stickers sheet. I added two hearts from the Foam Title Stickers under my sub to draw your eye.
To finish off I fussy cut butterflies from the Lacewing paper and placed them in a way on my layout so they looked like they were fluttering around (I also added with foam tape). A light splattering of black paint optional!
Well that’s it from me today but I hope this layout inspired you in some way. Thank you for stopping by and see you all again soon. Happy scrapping!
Hi everyone! It’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. For this layout I was tasked with incorporating the theme of “sewing”, which gave me a great excuse to dust off my sewing machine and put it to good use. I decided to use the ‘Legendary’ collection for my page and pair it with a series of photos of my boys and hubby having some fun with a swing at the park.
I started with a sheet of white cardstock that I cut down to measure 11×11″, and then mounted it against the fabulous rainbow stripe of the Wild One paper. I chose this paper as my base as I really wanted to coordinate with all the colours that were present in my photos. It also opened up a broad colour scheme for the papers I was going to use on my page.
For my design I knew I wanted something fun with lots of colour and a feeling of movement to echo the action in the photos, so I decided to create a large banner. Once I had decided where my photos were going to sit on the page, it was simply a matter of cutting an assortment of different sized paper pieces for the sections of the banner. (The papers I used included All Star; Total Legend; Wild One; Offbeat; and Explorer.) I then used a small amount of glue to tack the pieces lightly in place before I used my sewing machine to stitch down the middle of a few of them.
I then tacked the photos lightly in place before adding several lines of stitching back and forth across the top to represent the string of the banner and hold them firmly in place. (I deliberately left all the loose threads hanging intact, as they added to the texture of the page.) I then went back and bent up the tails of the banner pieces, as well as the bottom edges of my photos so they would look as though they were blowing in the breeze. Now it was time for some embellishments!
I started by tucking the large circular frame / mandala piece from the Die Cut Ephemera pack in underneath the middle photo, then added a large star over the top (which I also bent up from the page). I chose the words super and silly from the Die Cut Titles pack and tacked them along the top of my photos. I then took to it with my sewing machine again, and added some lines of stitching over the top, before I added the word fun from the Clear Stickers pack underneath.
In amongst the banner pieces, I tucked in a couple of tickets and a small flag from the Die Cut Ephemera pack; then I added a couple of phrases stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet along the bottom of the left photo. From the Clear Sticker set, I added two chevrons on either side of my photos to indicate a “swinging” motion and to help draw the viewer’s eye through.
At the top of my page I added some crazy, silly stitching in each of the top corners, then added a date label from the Accessory Sticker sheet to the right hand side. I finished off by adding a few paint splat Clear Stickers, and then a few splatters of black ink and I was done!
This was a really fun page to put together, (especially doing all that random wild sewing!) and I am really happy with the result. If you have a sewing machine but you aren’t confident sewing on a layout, then this type of project might be right for you because perfection is not necessary.
Thanks so much for stopping by today so I could share this with you. Until next time, happy scrapping!
