Happy Moments | Daydream Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello hello!! Its Melissa here and I’m sooooo super excited to be sharing my first layout with the breathtakingly gorgeous new ‘Daydream’ collection!! This collection is so beautiful that its almost hard to cut into, part of me just wants to frame the papers!!

I’ve been in the mood for fussy cutting lately, especially florals.  For this layout featuring my youngest daughter Ava, last summer, I cut apart the wreath design on ‘DAISY DAYS’ and decided to do one of my favourite techniques with a printed wreath which is to deconstruct and then reconstruct in a different configuration.   I love the look of partial wreaths and the fussy cutting enabled me to layer and lift the leaves and flowers.

For this layout I did what I’d call ‘extreme’ fussy cutting, and even used a craft knife to remove as much of the white background as possible.  It took me several evenings watching movies on Netflix to get it done bit by bit, and it was so worth it. Here is a close up of my cutting with my small scissors to show the scale.

I used ‘SWEET SERENITY’ for my background, I just love adding subtle mixed media to papers like this one.  I also fussy cut some of the moths and a butterfly from ‘ALL AFLUTTER’ and used dimensional foam behind their wings for extra lift.

Of course I had to use a rainbow, and this gorgeous one is from the ‘DIE CUT EPHEMERA’ pack.  The sweet little yellow heart and phrase on my photo are from the ‘ACCESSORY STICKERS’ sheet.

I also added some cut file leaves that I painted with my watercolours to add to my partial wreaths. The sequins are from the ‘SEQUINS & FLOWERS’ pack.

My title is from the ‘DIE CUT EPHEMERA’ pack and ‘DIE CUT TITLES’ pack. I just love how the two words work so well together to tie in the entire layout, because eating an ice cream in the summer sunshine is definitely one of life’s Happy Moments!

Mont Saint Michel | Throwback Thursday Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friend. It’s time for Throwback Thursday kind of a post and you all know I really like revisiting older CVS lines. I have few favorite ones, like “Hello sunshine”, “Life is beautiful” or “Sugar and spice” but I also like to mix collections to use them up to the single piece. Today I want to share with you layout made mostly with “Life is beautiful” with minor elements from some other lines.

This collection is already unavailable but you can still purchase super cool digital kit and print papers and embellishments at home. Element I like the most in “Life is beautiful” are colorful flowers in whimsical shapes. They are easy to fussy cut and look great on any project. I cut out few of them and composed them with papers and photos to make this layout.

We recently got back from our summer vacation in Britanny, France and I have so many fresh photos to scrapbook. This layout is about our visit at Mont Saint Michel. I snapped few photos of Maja posing in front of this amazing monument and I needed to scrapbook how adorable she is. I lined all my elements in one line, creating kind of the vertical banner, composed of papers and photos.

I mixed in few small labels and words trying to keep everything quite simple. Pretty yellow, orange and blue colors worked with my pictures perfectly. I added machine stitching at one end, anchoring my composition to the base paper.

Adding few enamel dots from various collections and some splatters was the last step in my creative process.

Hello Boy | Legendary Collection | Anna Blades

Hey everyone! It’s Anna here, sharing this monochromatic layout with you today, featuring the Legendary collection. Two months ago my sister had a baby boy, and we are very happy because is the first boy in the family!! My parents have two girls (me and my little sister) and I also have two daughters. So, at last, we can say “hello boy!”. For this layout, I was inspired by the stars in the picture.

First, I used the distress oxide inks and the plastic technique to make my background in a watercolor 12×12 sheet. I did it with different shades of blue and also add some splatters. I wanted it to look like a sky.

I spread some stars diagonally, from top to bottom of the page. I took them from the Die Cut Ephemera, the Clear Stickers, and also fussy cut some stars from the All Star paper. I put foam dots behind a few stars to add more dimension. In between the stars, I also glued some enamel dots.

On top of the page, I stacked two strips from the Offbeat and Epic Tales papers. I cut the Offbeat paper a little bit crooked, and I used a stamp with white ink to simulate a machine stitching. It’s subtle but I think it gives an extra touch (and I didn’t feel like taking out the sewing machine).

For my title, I used two words from the Die Cut Titles which I raised with foam dots and a phrase from the Clear Stickers. I embellished it with a die cut star and a flair button that matched perfectly with the color and the stars. I don’t usually write journaling on my layouts, but this time I did it. Below it, I placed another die cut that says “legendary”.

With the All Star paper I matted my picture. Behind it, I put some tissue paper too and foam to raise it up. Two more die cuts and another one for layering, and that’s it!!

Once in a while I enjoy making a monochromatic layout, it’s kinda challenging for me. I hope you like it and thank you so much for stopping by today!

You Are My Sunshine | Daydream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It’s Tarrah back with you on the Cocoa Vanilla blog and today I am very excited to be sharing my first project using the stunning brand new Daydream collection! Oh my goodness it is just so beautiful! I think this one might be up there as one of my favourite all time collections from Zoe! So as soon as I received my goodies, I pulled out that amazing rainbow paper and believe me, it has been a very popular paper amongst the design team!

I decided to trim the rainbow paper down so that I could mat it with the darker blue paper and then again with the small black and white spotted paper. I like how the darker blue paper draws out the hearts in the bottom left and also the hat and dress of both of my nieces in the photo. The photo is a recent one of my sister and her gorgeous family on an outing to see a waterfall. I matted the photo with the woodgrain frame from the ephemera pack and also adhered one of the die-cut phrases on top of the photo. I layered half of the large circle die-cut and a paper doily on the left of the photo and tucked in some of the super cute florals and a tab on the right of the photo.

I love the strip of rainbows die-cut so I added that piece to the top of the photo. I chose to create a long title for this layout, choosing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and splitting some of the title to draw your eye around the page. The ‘You Are My’ part I wanted to arrange in an arch to mimic the rainbow arch and the ‘Sunshine’ part of the title fits perfectly at the bottom of the photo. I did use craft foam underneath the title to give the page some dimension and create a shadow. You can see in the detail photo above the shadow this created in the words.

I chose some more of the gorgeous florals and pulled out one of the cute puffy hearts. I adhered all of these to the left of the photo. I had to add that awesome sun die-cut above the word ‘My’ and I layered one of the flair buttons straight on top. I chose some of the small heart stickers and die-cuts and placed these tone on tone around my layout. To finish off the page, I chose some of the phrases and words from the accessory sticker sheet that were appropriate and placed them around the layout, I also stamped the date stamp that the photo was taken.

Happy Heart | Bohemian Dream | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends, Rachel here! Today I have a fun layout using lots of colour and busy patterns which if done in a balanced way and with a white (or black) contrast totally work. I have used Bohemian Dream collection. I cut a piece of white cardstock to 10×10 inches. I added some turquoise paint brush strokes randomly across the page and splattered lightly with some black paint (this is as messy as I can get lol). I then added messy machine stitching in a turquoise colour. I also tore some of the white cardstock edges for texture.I attached this to the stunning Abundant paper as a stunning border. I used two floral cut files from the Silhouette Design to add to the sides of my pages. I used another busy paper Flower Child  to paper back these, which you can do as they have the white background paper to contrast.I love using the Accessory Stickers to create my journalling which I usually tuck into embellishment cluster.I added my photo using s die cut frame and then added more florals to either side and finished off adding some phrase banners under my photo and not forgetting a gorgeous butterfly which I had to add because the colour was perfect! I also added my photo with foam tape which I always do when I am using a smaller photo so it has dimension.Lastly I added my title using a die cut and accessory sticker words, I love the contrast between big and small in a title. I went back and added some enamel dots to add more texture.This layout would be perfect for a teenage girl themed layout, it’s modern, bright, bold and lots of fun!Thank you so much for stopping by today and I am so excited to share my first layout using the stunning Day Dream collection, so see you all soon. Good Day Sunshine | Daydream collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It’s Sue here today to share my very first layout using the brand new, and oh-SO-beautiful, ‘Daydream’ collection. This was created for our current ‘Outdoor Adventures’ theme, and I was very excited that the collection arrived in time for me to use it for this page.

The photo I chose to document was one that I took of my hubby and our boys doing some gardening together. My sons recently celebrated their 8th birthday, and one of them had requested “gardening stuff” as a present. (Isn’t that the cutest?) I couldn’t resist his lovely request, so I went and got him his own gloves, tools, seedlings, pots and potting mix. He was so happy, and has been lovingly caring for them ever since.

In keeping with the outdoor theme, I decided to use the wood grain print on the reverse side of the Over the Rainbow paper as my background. This gave the page a good “earthy” base, and because it’s such a beautiful detailed grain, it also made my job much easier as it really didn’t need anything added to it.

I then created the focal point for my page using layered pieces from the B sides of the patterned papers Sun Shower (a delicious rich yellow with stripes); All Aflutter (a lovely coral with a sweet heart print); and Garden Variety (a sweet blue-grey tiny spot).

I then added a small grey paper doily from my stash, before sticking my photo down using some scrap cardboard to pop it up from the page. (Did you notice the rainbow lens flare in my photo? I think it looks cool, which is one of the reasons I chose this shot.)

With my photo now in place, it was time to add some embellishments. The first thing I reached for to go with my gardening theme, was the stunning floral print on the Garden Variety paper. The flowers on this sheet were just begging to be fussy cut! I cut several clusters and tucked them in around my photo, bending the edges up away from the page to provide dimension.

I created a small cluster around the top left corner of my photo using the so sweet tab sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet; a small flower and leaf from the Die Cut Ephemera pack; and one of the new embellishments on the block – a Puffy Heart. These fabric hearts are super cute, and they have beautiful, delicate gold thread woven through them.

Next, I added my page title to the right of my photo; using three words from the Die Cut Titles pack. (I actually cut the “s” off the word “days” so it fit the phrase I wanted.) I used foam tape under my title words so that they would sit up at the same height as the photo and allow me to overlap the edge. Above my title I added the sweet little die cut rainbow from the ephemera pack.

With my layout so bottom heavy at this point, I created a small cluster in the top right corner to help balance it out. I wanted to mimic the focal area of my page, so I used small pieces of the same papers, then topped it with the oh happy day banner from the sticker sheet.

To finish off my page, I used a label cut from the Happy Place cut apart paper to write my journalling, then added two small die cut flowers. A light splatter of some white mist around my page, and I was done!

This collection is just so easy, and such a pleasure to work with that I was able to create four pages before I even really came up for air. It has just started hitting the shelves of retailers, so make sure you check with your local store or favourite online retailer to see if they have it available. It really is one you need in your stash!

FAMILY MOMENTS | DAYDREAM | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative friends, Gwen back on the blog today with a new share and I’m so excited to be using the brand new collection ‘Day Dream’. This is the first layout I’ve created with this collection and I absolutely loved working with it, so soft and pretty! This week on the blog we are being inspired by the theme ‘Outdoor Adventures’ so I thought it would be fun to document a couple of photos from a recent family trip to Rainbow Beach.

The design of the page was inspired by my photos and this sweet pattern paper called ‘Over the Rainbow’. As soon as I saw the pattern paper, the idea popped into my head to make a little scene of sorts with the rainbow crossing over the sky in my pics.

I began by fussy cutting out the rainbow design and then placing it onto the ‘Sweet Serenity’ pattern paper and adding stitching along each of the rainbow arcs. Next, I’ve positioned my photos underneath the rainbow, mounting on the ‘Garden Variety’ pattern paper from the 6×8 paper pad. I love using the paper pad to back my photos as the prints in the designs are smaller and they translate really well as photo mats. I’ve raised my photos up on foam for dimension.

I’ve then gone ahead and placed the larger die-cut pieces, the florals are from the ‘Ephemera Pack’ and the title is from the ‘Die Cut Titles’ pack. Placing the larger elements first helps the page come together quickly. I’ve also raised some of these elements up on foam tape for dimension. I love mixing and matching the heights of elements on my page.

I’ve then worked on creating my ‘flowing clusters’ as I like to call them… clusters of embellishments that draw the eye around the page.

I’ve used a combination of elements from the ‘Accessory Sticker sheet’, ‘Die Cut Ephemera pack’ and the ‘Flair button pack’ to create one main cluster and two smaller ones that draw the eye from the top of the rainbow down to the photos.

To finish the page off, I’ve fussy cut out three of the cute moth elements from the ‘All Aflutter’ pattern paper and two of the cute hearts from the ‘Puffy Hearts’ pack, these smaller elements add texture and interest and finish off the page really nicely.

Stay Colorful | Happiness Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura here with a bouncy, energetic layout featuring my darling girls enjoying their favorite outdoor activity, jumping on the trampoline! I decided I wanted this layout to have just as much energy as these two  bunnies! Using the stunning Happiness collection’s 6×8 paper pad to back this sweet heart wreath cut file from Paige Evans made a super easy background when layered on this mixed media styled Sprinkles patterned paper.

 

In the top right corner, I tucked in a tag, ticket, and a heart behind one of the sweet little word phrase banners for a cute cluster. As a bonus, this adds a journaling spot amidst the business to add a quick reflection on the twins’s favorite activity. In the bottom left corner, I added a floral/heart cluster with my title phrase banner, “Stay Colorful,” which came from the ephemera pack.

To add a bit of detail, I stamped some teeny tiny hearts as well as some Nuvo drops and splatters around the outside of the wreath. In random places, I tucked in clear sticker hearts for a fun, peek-a-boo effect. This layout is such a fun, happy, bouncy design that perfectly matches these two wild bunnies jumping around!

  I hope this cut file layout inspires you to look at your patterned papers a little differently! It’s fun to see how you can use every little scrap up in a new way. If you’d like to see the Stay Colorful layout come together, I have the entire process in the video below!

So very beautiful adventure | Unforgettable | Anita Bownds

Hi there crafty friends , Anita here sharing a fun sweet adventure layout using the beautiful Unforgettable collection
Our kitty Luna and I love going on little adventures around our garden..she manly just follows me around while I take photos of pretty flowers but she enjoys it as my girls are grown up now but she used to follow them around when ever they where playing…
With my layout today I wanted to try something new and tear my white cardstock down the middle removing about 2 inches to add a strip of glorious patterned paper behind.
Then I tore a bit from top left and bottom right to add more glorious patterned paper behind

 

Then I matted my photo on papers from the 6×8 and tucked ephemera into the layers to add colour and dimension
Then using one of the cardstock titles from legendary I added adventure below my photo

 

Then on the 2 sides that I add the patterned paper I clustered ephemera and adhered it down
Then I selected flowers from the ephemera and started layering them around the photo and a few in the clusters of ephemera 

 

I added some accessory stickers to my photo layers and one to the top of my title along with a clear sticker beside it to add more colour I then add splashes of ink across the layout to add more colour in the background .

 

 

And a few enamel dots to finish it off

Best Buddies | Legendary Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here with a bright and happy outdoors themed layout to share with you, using none other than the Legendary collection. This collection has just been absolutely perfect to get all those outdoor adventures documented! This time I have created a multi-photo layout to document my son and his little friend’s sandpit adventures.

I based my layout around this fab sunny sky background cut file, which I cut on a dark blue cardstock on my electronic cutting machine. I knew I wanted to use a light background and I knew the blue would really pop, plus I just love using coloured cardstock! I backed the suns and rainbows in the cut file using patterned papers Total Legend cut apart side and Wild One.

I then decided I wanted to play with some vellum and art media for the clouds. I took some plain vellum, then an iridescent gel medium which I applied first with a paintbrush, then a sponge (I did not find much difference either way) to turn my vellum into a shimmery metallic translucent finish. I love this effect! It was so easy and looks so pretty. Once the vellum dried, I used it to back all the clouds in the cut file.

Next my background. I chose Epic Tales patterned paper for a lovely light bright base, then added a border of Total Legend patterned paper to pull in some of the bright blue from the photos. To avoid the vellum looking invisible on the white background, I spritzed some light blue mist onto the paper roughly in the places the clouds would go. I also added some burnt orange ink splatters for a contrasting colour.

I added some simple photo mats using Wild One and One Way patterned papers and arranged my photos in a diagonal line across the page. My title was easy thanks to the die cut titles – I simply chose ‘Best Buddies’ and added the titles either side of my photo line. So simple!

I chose some of the tags, tickets and banners from the die cut ephemera and the accessory stickers to embellish around the top and bottom photos, keeping to that diagonal layout. I added my journaling and date on label stickers, then used my very last enamel dots to add some detail to the corners of the photos. I don’t know about you, but it feels so good to use up the last few bits of a scrappy supply – luckily, I have a backup packet!
