Hello creative Paperlovers,

Welcome and how lovely to see you on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog. This time, I’ve created a scrapbook layout using the oh-so-beautiful “Day Dream” collection. I had some scraps left over and couldn’t resist capturing the gorgeous view of Costa Rica with Day Dream. The view is truly dreamy.

 

 

As almost always, my base is a lovely white sheet of cardstock. I use an extra white cardstock sheet to cut out a square of 8×8 inches. I stitch the edges of the square with a white stitched border using white sewing thread and placing the 8×8 square on my desk.

 

I start decorating the edges with the fussy-cut Day Dream flowers. I create lovely clusters of flowers both in the top left and bottom right corners. I die-cut four butterflies from the 5×8 patterned paper  pack and stitch them in the center with white sewing thread. I frame the photo with a wood-colored photo frame and position it in the center of the custom-cut 8×8 square.

 

For the title, I use various alphabet sets and a black and white word title. The colored puffy stickers are from the “These Days” collection. The title of this layout is “Lovely View, Costa Rica.” I scatter the butterflies playfully across the layout. I also cut out a few more butterflies from the Day Dream patterned paper and place them on top of the clusters.

I fold the edges of the 8×8 square slightly and then adhere the square on top of the white 12×12 cardstock sheet using 3D foam tape. This makes it protrude slightly from the whole, giving a very nice and playful effect. Finally, I mix white gesso with some water and splatter it onto my layout. Happy Easter | Daydream | Josefine Van der Hoeven

Hello Paperlovers,

I hope you all had a wonderful easter weekend and welcome to the Cocoa Vanilla blog today! On this layout, I turned myself into an Easter bunny and chose for the amazing “Daydream” collection. One of my favorite things to do at Easter is painting eggs and, of course, baking fresh Easter cupcakes with the kids. The beautiful soft pastel shades from the “Daydream” collection fit this Easter theme perfectly. The cutfile of the bunny ears and the Easter eggs are from the Cricut store.

 

 

First, I cut eight strips of patterned paper to size and use two edge punches from Martha Stewart and stitch the top of the strips with light blue sewing thread. I place the strips of patterned paper centered on the white cardstock.

I placed my Easter selphy on top of the paper strips and start decorating on the left side of the photo. I used different embellishments from the “Daydream” collection and a view elements from the “These Days” collection. I found a view butterflies from my previous scrapbook project and they fit the theme perfectly. I layered the flowers, butterflies and a cute yellow heart from fabric by using double-sided tape and 3D foam.

 

 

I cut three Easter eggs from a piece of white cardstock just as I did with the bunny ears. I colored the eggs with three different colors of distress oxide inks. ( evergreen bough, mustard seed and kitch flamingo)  I playfully lay the colored  Easter eggs on top of each other on the right side of the photo then I placed the rabbit ears above the photo and I think it gives a very funny snapchat effect.

 

In some places of the strips of patterned paper I curl and fold it a little bit. With white gesso I make some fun and festive splatters on my layout. For the title I use the word “Happy” from the Cocoa Vanilla word ephemra and used a mustard colored alpha set from my own stash to create the word easter.

Little Loves | Day Dream | Kellie Moore

Welcome back CVS fans!

While waiting for the new “Happy Days” collection to arrive, I pulled out an old favourite of mine… Day Dream! Im such a big fan of using rainbows, I think they are such a fun and happy motif so I cut out a bunch from the patterned paper and added some handstitching to add texture and I love the result.

To start my page I used the woodgrain paper to create a base for where the majority of my elements were going to sit. I think it brings some nice warmth to the page with all the pastel colours.

Next I created a heart with the pink heart paper and again stitched around the edge to help it pop on the page. I placed the heart to the top left of my photo so that it stuck out from behind my photo and draws the eye in.

I wanted to add a bit more to the white cardstock as it felt a bit stark for my liking so I used a stencil and distress oxide to add some circles around my design… I think it adds a little something without overpowering the page.

From the ephemera pack I chose a scalloped circle diecut that I cut out and added half to the left of the page and the other half to the right…this helps create balance. I added one of the flair badges inside the circle with some gold thread underneath it, again creating that texture. On my page you will see a house to the right of my photo and a sun to the top left…these are both from the ephemera pack, as well as the row of rainbows under my photo.

Next, I added the rainbows around my page…how sweet are they?!

For my title I used words from the word die cuts….I wanted the word ‘loves’ not love, so I cut and ‘s’ off another word…make the products work for you!

Lastly I added some torn paper strips to the top left and bottom right of my page…. creating more a diagonal design.

I hope you found some inspiration today…and maybe even adding some hand stitching to your own pages.

Beautiful Life | Daydream collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share my layout inspired by our ‘All things Delightful’ April mood board. Here’s a reminder of of the beautiful mood board designed by Rachel.

I was inspired by the gorgeous images of the flowers and the rainbow in the mood board, as well as the use of soft pastel colours. I couldn’t go past the gorgeous Daydream collection for this layout, and of course the Over the Rainbow paper was just perfect! The photo that I chose to scrapbook is a selfie of my hubby and I, taken when we had a little mini getaway for a few days last year.

Using that gorgeous rainbow as my background made this layout come together so quickly and easily! I started by matting my photo using the Up in the Clouds paper and adhering it on the right hand side of the rainbow. As I often do, I used craft foam under the photo to give it some added dimension.

Next I fussy cut some flowers out of the stunning Garden Variety paper and created a beautiful floral cluster on the top right hand corner of the photo. By tucking some flowers underneath the photo and adding others on top it again gives the cluster some lovely dimension and interest.

On the bottom right hand corner of the photo I created a small embellishment cluster using a die cut house and banner, as well as a couple of sweet little Puffy Stickers from the These Days collection.

To balance out the larger floral cluster, I added another smaller one in the bottom left hand corner of the layout. This cluster was also fussy cut from the Garden Varity paper. The positioning of the two florals clusters gives the layout a diagonal flow, drawing the viewer’s eye from the top right hand corner, down through the photo to the bottom left.

For my title I decided on using words from the lovely Die Cut Titles pack. These are so versatile and make it super easy to add a beautiful title to your page. I used the words ‘Beautiful Life’ which perfectly summed up this photo.

I finished the layout off by adding some die cut butterflies and hearts, as well as some Puffy Heart Stickers. I also added my typed journaling strips in the upper right hand corner of the layout.

Sweet Moments | Daydream collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here with you today to share a new layout using one of my all-time favourite collections, Daydream! I adore the pretty colours and sweet florals in this collection and I can’t help coming back to it time and again. The photo that I chose for this layout is one of my Mum and youngest daughter, taken recently when we enjoyed a fun girls day out, op shopping and lunching!

The gorgeous wreath on the Daisy Days paper is one of my favourites, and it was the perfect way to showcase a special photo such as this one. I decided to add some extra interest to the background by using the Sun Shower paper to frame the wreath. I did this by cutting a wavy circle out of the middle of the paper and then laying it over the wreath paper.

Next I matted my photo using one of the papers from the 6 x 8 inch Paper Stack and I adhered it at the bottom of the wreath. I added some extra die cut flowers around the bottom of the photo, adhering them with foam tape to give them some nice dimension. I also added some leaves from the These Days Floral Ephemera to the cluster, and I finished it off with a Wood Epoxy Button, also from the These Days collection.

I love combining different alphas to create my titles and on this layout I chose to use a combination of the lovely Mini Puffy Alphas from the These Days collection, with a word from the Daydream Die Cut Titles. My title ‘Sweet Moments’ was the perfect sentiment for this photo. I added my typed journaling strips underneath the title.

I finished the layout off by adding a couple of sweet little butterflies that I fussy cut from one of the 6 x 8 papers, and I also tucked one of the lovely Puffy Hearts into the cluster around the photo. I love the texture that this adds to the page!

Beautiful | Daydream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new layout featuring the gorgeous Daydream collection! The Daydream collection would have to be one of my all time favourite collections by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. Which collection would be your favourite?

The photos I am documenting on this layout are of my niece when she was posing with a cute hat on her head! The florals and the lovely words in this collection are perfect to go with my photo.

I decided to start out my layout with a plain white piece of cardstock, which I often do, I then cut strips of different patterned papers from the Daydream collection in 1 inch sizes. I strategically then arranged these strips into a triangular pattern so that no 2 patterns were together on the page. I matted the photos with some of the papers from the A5 paper pack and arranged the photos slightly overlapping each other.

The floral die-cuts in the Daydream collection (or any of the collection for that matter) are just so beautiful! They look absolutely gorgeous when they are added to a project! I tucked in lots of different sizes and colours at each side of the photos and I also tucked some in to the top of the photos as well. I added different heights of foam adhesive and regular adhesive to get the shadow and dimension on my page. Once they were all stuck down, I bent up the edges of the petals and the leaves to make them look more realistic as well!

My title is made up of the gorgeous cardstock title words and I also added one of the banner die-cuts below the title too. I adhered it slightly overlapping the bottom of the photos and added foam tape to the bottom of the title to adhere it with the same level as the photos. Some of the smaller embellishments that I added include accessory stickers, moth and heart die-cuts and also some of the super cute sequins. You can see I added some of the sequins to the centres of the flowers, I love how the sequins look in the centres of the flowers. I should add sequins to my projects a lot more often!

Above the photo on the right, I also added one of the tab stickers from the accessory sticker sheet and also added one of the super cute fabric puffy hearts here too. Lastly I stamped my date stamp and called my layout finished. I love how it turned out. I love the pattern that the papers make on the page and how the florals look even against the busy patterned paper background.

Favourite Moments | Daydream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a new layout created for the Throwback Thursday feature this week.

I chose to pull out the STUNNING Daydream collection as I had the perfect photo to document using this gorgeous collection! The photo is of myself with my crafty friends from a recent macrame workshop where we made rainbows. Just love how my rainbow turned out!

I chose a rainbow style background cut file from Paper Issues and cut it out from white cardstock, I then adhered the cut file to a sheet of the peachy coloured paper in the Daydream collection. I really love the effect of the cut file against the background paper. I backed my photo with one of the papers from the A5 paper stack and distressed the edges with my edge distresser tool. I like the texture this gives to the edges. I adhered the photo to the centre of my page and layered some papers and embellishments underneath.

My title is made up of a word from the awesome die-cut titles and an ephemera piece from the ephemera pack. I popped up both pieces with some pop dots and placed the title slightly on the left at the bottom of my photo. I tucked in one of the gorgeous fabric puffy hearts behind the Favourite ephemera piece and also chose some of the gorgeous rainbow die-cuts to adhere here as well. I used different size adhesive so that there were layers to my layout, I like how this creates shadows on my page.

On the right of my photo, I pulled out more rainbow pieces in both accessory stickers and ephemera pieces too and adhered them the same as the other side with different levels of adhesive for a layered effect and to create shadows. Another gorgeous puffy heart was also tucked in and I adhered some gorgeous, small floral ephemera pieces too. When I create my layouts, I will always place and adhere the larger things on my page first like the photo, a cut file and a title. From there my next step is to add the smaller embellishments like die-cuts, frames, chipboard etc and work down to even smaller embellishments again like enamel dots, sequins and small stickers.

I like to audition things before I completely commit to them staying on the layout so I will choose something I want to add and then I try it in a few different places before I am happy with how it looks, I take into consideration the colour, the size and if it balances with other things also on the page, I try to achieve the visual triangle on my pages so that my layouts are pleasing to the viewers eye. The last thing I did on this layout was added a few sequins and sprinkled some gold mist around my page.

Spring Days and Icecream | Daydream | Kellie Moore

Welcome back to the CVS blog friends…hope you are doing well!

It’s Kellie here, and today I’m sharing a page with this months prompt of ‘Spring.’ For my page, I have used a lot of the ‘Daydream’ collection with a bit of ‘Storyteller’ thrown in…. here it is!

To start my page, I used the paper from ‘Daydream’ that is a white with a black dot….this is a great paper to use as a background as it’s not too busy. Next I decided to look through my cutfiles to see what I had that would help represent spring…and this one from Confessions of a Paper Addict with the suns, rainbows and clouds was perfect! To back the cutfile I used a bunch of the papers from both Daydream and Storyteller and added in some plain vellum for the clouds as they give a nice, soft effect. For the centre of the suns, I made some shaker pockets with some yellow/gold sequins.

To add some more colour to my page I used some distress oxides behind different spots of my cutfile to enhance the design.

For my title I used some yellow alphas from my stash and the word ‘Days’ is from the Daydream ephemera. I love using different fonts in my titles!

I love the florals in the Daydream collection so I used these next to my title and on the right hand side of my picture. I also added some butterflies around my page….

Love | Daydream collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here with you today, and I have a layout to share for our sketch theme this month. To make it even more fun, it’s Throwback Thursday! It’s probably no surprise that I decided to pull out the Daydream collection for this layout. It’s definitely one of my all time favourite collections, and it worked perfectly with this photo of my hubby and eldest daughter that I wanted to scrapbook! For my sketch inspiration, I decided on using one from Creative Memories…

I love working with sketches when I’m creating a layout. I find that they’re great for giving me a jumping off point and they provide inspiration for different page designs that I wouldn’t necessarily come up with on my own. I chose this sketch as I love the patchwork style design in the background, as well as the large circular element in the middle of the page. After that, I deviated from the sketch a bit as I only had one photo, and therefore didn’t create the collage of photos inside the circle, but the general design of the page is there.

I started my layout off by selecting some patterned papers from the 6×8 Inch Paper Stack to create my background. I cut each piece at 4.8cm x 14.4cm, and then pieced them together on my white cardstock background, making sure to balance out the patterns and colours as I went. I then cut a circle out of white cardstock, which was 8 1/2 inches in diameter, and I cut a slightly larger circle out of the peach All Aflutter patterned paper to matt the white cardstock circle onto. I also added some machine stitching around the circle to give the page some additional texture. My photo was matted on another paper from the 6×8 Inch Paper Stack, and was then adhered inside the circle.

Next I created an embellishment cluster on the top right hand corner of the photo, using a floral cluster that I fussy cut out of the beautiful Garden Variety patterned paper, as well as a rainbow Sticker. I also added my title here using one of the words from the Die Cut Titles pack.

To balance out the first embellishment cluster, I added another fussy cut floral cluster on the bottom left hand corner of the photo. You’ll notice that I chose florals with a curved design so that they followed the shape of the circle. I adhered this floral cluster with foam tape to add some nice dimension to the page.

To finish the layout off I added a couple of butterflies, one from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and the other fussy cut from one of the 6×8 papers. I also sprinkled around some sequins as well as a few more tiny fussy cut flowers.

I had so much fun creating this layout and I love the unique design that the sketch inspired!

Happy Mother’s Day | Daydream collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here today to share a new layout with you. This week on the blog it’s all about different ways of featuring your photos. When creating a layout I always try to make the photo/s the focus of the page. Sometimes I only need one photo to tell the story, and other times it’s important to include more, but either way, all of the other elements on a page are there to complement and support the photo and story. For today’s layout I wanted to include three photos – one with each of my kids on Mother’s Day, and I chose to use one of my all-time favourite collections, Daydream to document these photos.

I started this layout off with a sheet of the All Aflutter paper as my background. I trimmed it down to 11 inches square, added some machine stitching around the edge, and then matted it on the Happy Place paper. This framed the layout nicely, and helped to make all of the elements on the page feel contained.

Next I cut my title using my new little Cricut Joy (which my hubby surprised me with for Mother’s Day!). I chose one of the phrases available to download within the Cricut Design Space and cut the word ‘happy’ from the Over the Rainbow paper and ‘Mother’s Day’ from the Sun Shower paper. I then created an offset and cut this from white cardstock, which helped the title to really pop and stand out from the background. I also adhered my title using foam tape to give it some nice dimension and shadows.

I matted my 3×4 inch photos with various patterned papers from the 6×8 Inch Paper Stack, and then arranged them around the title, creating a visual triangle.

Next I created two floral clusters, one in the top left and the other above the photo in the bottom right. This helps to give a diagonal flow to the layout, drawing the viewer’s eye down the page and through the title and photos. I used various floral and leaf die cuts in the clusters, layering them up and adhering some with foam tape for extra dimension and interest.

I finished the page off with a couple of little moths/butterflies that I fussy cut out of one of the 6×8 papers, as well as a few little heart stickers. I also added my typed journaling next to the photo at the top of the page.
