Fun in the Sun | Sunkissed Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here today sharing a new layout with you using the latest and gorgeous Sunkissed collection. Today’s layout is a layout I created for fun featuring some holiday memories using this bright and fun summer themed collection.

Here is the layout that I created to share with you today:

This layout is documenting a moment with our family when we have been away over summer. This layout is a flashback to 2018, I cannot believe how time flies and how quick our kids grow up!

You can see by these pictures that Mumma scrapbooker was trying to get those picture perfect photos – this is a foreign thing to these kiddies. I think they have been accustomed to posing for photos that on this specific day – this Mumma just gets what she gets, even if it wasn’t the perfectly posed photo . I printed three 3×4 photos for this layout and quickly realised that they would be too large for this layout. So I used a circular die I had in my stash to cut the three photos into circles.

The base of this layout was inspired by a Daffodil cut file from Cut  to You. I used various patterned papers in the paper pad to back the cut file.

The title of this layout ‘Fun in the Sun’ was created from the Glitter foam titles pack. To help balance the gold in the title I used some of the hearts amongst the layout also.

To build more detail to the cut files I added extra floral ephemera pieces, in particular I used leaves and the bud stems. To the top right of the page I added some short typewritten journaling that simple documented the when and where of the layout.

I was able to embellish in three main clusters on the page allowing the layout to still have balance. For the smaller details I used the puffy stickers and small ephemera hearts.

The white card stock base of the layout was framed with the blue clouds and machine stitched. I was able to add depth and dimension using foam adhesive to the cut files, florals and photos.

Bunny Kisses | Sunkissed Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here sharing an Easter layout today with you all  I hope that you had an amazing Easter celebrating with your family and friends. I am creating with the Sunkissed collection today, the perfect collection for an Easter layout as well.

Here is the layout that I have created:

In this layout I have flash backed to Easter 2015 and documenting a super sweet photo of my babes. Boy, I had so much fun going back through the archives looking for an Easter memory to document. This photo spoke to me right away and I just new it was the one. Look at how little and cute my babes are. Oh my!

I printed my black and white photo with a small white border and matted the photo with the cloud paper in the small paper pack. To the top right of the photo I love to add the tabs that are available in the ephemera packs or accessory sticker sheets. This captured tab was a part of the ephemera pack.

The title of the layout also served as a big focal point of the layout given its size. This is a cut file from the Cut to You store and I have backed each word using a different paper from the paper pack. I thought the word Easter needed to be using the flora paper. The look just screams Easter to me. I adhere the paper to the back of the cut file and use my fine tip scissors to cut out the negative areas.


I added my main embellishment clusters to the top right and bottom left of the page to maintain balance. The top right cluster is made up of floral ephemera teamed with a small glitter heart from the foam title stickers and some enamel dots from my stash. I have used a variety of dimensional adhesives to adhere the florals.

The bottom left cluster on the page is created in very much the same way however this one contains a tiny word accessory sticker and the stamped date from the time this pic was taken.

The entire cut file was adhered to the page with a thin foam adhesive that was purchased from Australian hardware store Bunnings. It has the perfect amount of dimension to add a little shadow to the white on white of the cut file and background card stock.

The whole layout has been framed on the ‘Just Chillin’ paper in a skewed fashion. I then added machine stitching to complete the layout.

You are Awesome | Boys Rule | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel Bowman here today and I am here sharing a “Throwback Thursday” layout. For today’s throwback I am delving into one of my fave boy collections from CVS called Boys Rule.

Here is the layout that I created to share with you today:  

I came across the featured photos on this layout while looking through a photo box I had in my craft room. I just wanted to document them immediately. These pics are of my little man when he was only a couple of years old. His little cheeky personality sure shines through with these photos and the Boys Rule collection was perfect to document them with. I also teamed my photos with a cut file from Cut to You – my fave place to buy cut files for my crafty pages. 

I used the 6×8” paper pad to back the clip board cut file binder clips. I also backed the clip boards in a combination of patterned papers and ephemera pieces to add layers and detail. 

As well as the clipboards framing the photos – stars were another repeating element to this page. I used the stars to embellish the page but also to support your eyes to go from the photos down to the title. The title of the page was fussy cut from the cut apart patterned paper. I added machine stitching through the title to allow it to stand out even more and add extra texture. 
I love that pop of aqua blue that the title brings to the page – I am so added some fussy cut stars and the banner ‘eat sleep and be rad’ – another cute element that compliments the rest of the layout design. 

The whole layout was matted in that black chalkboard style paper – to work well with the office theme of the page. To finish the layout and add texture to the page I used machine stitching.

Wonderful You | Daydream Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here with you today sharing my latest layout using the gorgeous Daydream collection.

Here is the layout that I created:

The subject of this layout is my two boys; my husband and my little man Jack. In this picture Jack was a few years old. I rediscovered this photo in my photo stash prior to creating this layout and it brought back some beautiful memories. It is just crazy how quickly time flies. 

I have actually combined another Cocoa Vanilla Collection in today’s layout. I have used the ‘More than Words’ collection to embellish some of this page. The feature element on this page along with the photo of course is the cut file which is a file by Cut to You. 

I matted the photo in a pattern from the 6×8” Paper pad and also vellum from my stash to compliment the soft colours in this layout. I also added a small 4” doily to behind the photo. 

I backed the cut file with a variety of the patterned papers – I tried to stick to softer tones and soft prints in the files. I embellished with florals, stickers, and fussy cut moths. 
To embellish this page I also added one of the gorgeous fabric puffy hearts. I added this on top of the cut file. I love the pop of mustard this gave to the layout. The wonderful chipboard word that made up this title came from the ‘More than Words’ collection. It worked perfectly with this page. 

I added journaling to this page using my usual form; typewritten journaling adhered to the page in strips. I reflected on the relationship these two have…so beautiful. The layout was very top heavy and in particular to the top right – so I added a small little floral embellishment to the bottom left corner of the page.

Happy Times | Happiness Collection + Monthly Challenge | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, its Raquel here with you today sharing some inspiration for this months Monthly Challenge that can be found in our Facebook ‘Cocoa Vanilla Studio Community’ – the winner randomly drawn will be able to score a $25 voucher to spend in the CVS store. 

Here is the layout that I created inspired by the mood board – 
 
I chose to draw inspiration from the colours, the nature and plant elements, adding butterflies to my page and also from the painted striped image at the bottom of the inspiration board.

The subject of my layout is my home town of Geelong. This photo was taken pre-covid when the waterfront was very much hustle bustle even on a weekday. I think this pandemic has brought me to reflect on the good times and things that I have in my life, our little town is one of those things. 
 
The Happiness collection has soo many gorgeous floral elements and embellishments. As you can see from my process video the embellishing of this page came together so nicely and just worked. The cut file I have used on this page is another one from the Cut to You store, however this one was one of the Newsletter freebie files. I backed the file with vellum as I really wanted to showcase the beautiful florals on this layout. 
 
Can you see something different for me on this page? Yep I had a little play with some distress inks and water to create that rainbow wash background. I fully committed to the design, though I must admit, I thought I would not like the result and would end up putting the background in the bin. Much to my surprise, that wasn’t the case and I like how it turned out. 
 
The title Happy Times was found in the ephemera pack. I had played with the die cut titles pack in the collection, and really love the way the one titled ‘beautiful’ looked on the page, however, I ended up choosing the less bold and smaller in size ‘Happy Times’. 
 
To frame my photo I used the light pink cross paper from the 6×8 paper pad. This pink shade has to be one of my favourite papers in the collection.I have used it multiple times and I was surprised that I had some left to mat my photo. 
I created embellishment clusters to the left and right of the photo and also a small cluster to the bottom left of the page to balance out the heaviness on that top right side, this small cluster also served as a good place to pop my journaling. I have used mainly the florals in the ephemera pack to embellish this layout, though I did also use some of the Accessory stickers (words, hearts) and some fussy cut butterflies.
The journaling on this page, as always is typewritten and reflects my love of our town. 
I love the opportunities that layering various elements gives, allowing me to add dimension, detail and depth by using foam adhesives to varying parts of the clusters. This image below gives you the chance to see some of the layering and detail that is on this page.

Captured | Unforgettable Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here with you today sharing a layout featuring the Unforgettable collection. This collection is one of my absolute faves from CVS; the colour palette is just so stunning.

Here is the layout I have to share with you today – 

This layout is documenting a very special moment for my two kiddies and our family. This photo was taken at my brothers wedding and these two kiddies had a special role in that wedding, my son was the ring bearer and daughter a flower girl. They just looked so adorable and this collection is just perfect for documenting it.

The title of this layout was created using the foam title stickers. I love the contrast of black against the white of the layout and the colours in the collection.

 

This 4×6” colour photo was printed with a white border  the white border allows me to use a busy pattern to mat the photo with – I used the beautiful Unscripted paper to do this.

I am the biggest fan of the CVS woodgrain designs and the Natural Beauty paper in this collection possibly tops the list.  I love creating layouts with a vertical strip of patterned paper and embellishing around that.

The floral embellishments I have used on this layout have formed a somewhat ‘laurel wreath’ behind the 4×6” photo of my kiddies. For this floral design I have mainly used the ephemera pack.

 

To the top left of the photo and layout I have added a small cluster that is made up of a butterfly, a small flower and some hearts from the clear stickers and also the ephemera pack.

As well as clusters to the left and right of the photo – I created one to the bottom right of the page. This gave my layout the balance that it needed. To create this I have used a variety of ephemera, accessory stickers, clear stickers and one of the bows too. The tiny word stickers in the accessory sticker sheets are perfect for acting as journaling on a layout to supply more detail to the title.

Beautiful | Bohemian Dream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone. Its Tarrah back with you today on the Cocoa Vanilla blog sharing a new layout featuring the gorgeous Bohemian Dream collection!

I am not normally a purple person when it comes to clothing or scrapping but when it comes to the Bohemian Dream collection, how can you go past that gorgeous purple?! The dress that my niece is wearing in this photo together with my Mum was the inspiration for my layout today. The colours in Amelia’s dress were the perfect match with the Bohemian Dream collection!

To start my page, I chose my background, which is the Dreamer paper and then started to build from the background up. I cut 2 strips of paper from the A and B sides of the Flower Child paper and placed them horizontally, I then trimmed the blue with white spots paper and cut it into a rectangle shape. Next I layered a paper doily underneath my photo, one of the journal cards from the Beautiful Mess paper and also layered one of the die-cut frames from the ephemera pack under the photo. The photo and frame have craft foam underneath them to add dimension to the page.

To embellish my layout, I took some of the florals, feathers and butterflies die-cuts from the ephemera pack and tucked them into various places around the page. On the left of my photo, I added one of the gorgeous flair buttons and the ‘Beautiful’ die-cut became my title for the page.

Summer | Happiness Layout | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone! It’s Raquel here sharing a new layout I have created featuring the absolutely stunning Happiness collection. The Happiness collection has to be hands down one of my fave CVS collections. I love the brightness of the collection and the florals … oh boy, the florals are just everything aren’t they?!

Here is the layout that I created:

This layout features a photo of my amazing hubby and my beautiful girl taken on our last family holiday over the summer period. I knew the moment that I snapped this photo it would become one of my faves of these two. I just melt at the love this dad has for his princess. Such a special bond, I hope Charlotte will grow up to know how lucky she is to have such an terrific father figure and role model in her life.  I backed the photo in the same patterned paper that I bordered the whole layout with, Bright and Beautiful paper. I feel like this really helps the photo to become the main feature even though the background of the layout is busy and more detailed.

 

The cut files I have used on this layout are from both Paige Evans (the summer title) and Cut to You (the clouds). I rarely combine two cut files on the one layout however I felt that the photo allowed for it. to back the letter sections Of the cut file I used the 6×8 paper stack. These are a fave never addition to the CVS collections for me, I love that I can use the smaller versions of the patterns within cut files, but also as paper layers to add more detail and dimension to a page.

To the top left of the photo I have a small area of the layout which I embellished. This area contains a combination of accessory stickers and clear stickers. I love the sentiments on the accessory stickers within the tiny word stickers – I always manage to find the perfect wording.

The bottom left of the layout and for cut title featured another cluster and layering of embellishments . These were mainly from the ephemera pack. I am honestly surprised at how far I have stretched the ephemera packs florals. I love them so much! The butterfly is fussy cut from the Bright and Beautiful paper. I love adding a dimensional butterfly to a page and by fussy cutting them from a paper design gives you so many to play with.

As well as clusters of embellishments to either side of the layout, I also layered ephemera behind the photo and on top of the bottom section of the photo. The ‘my happiness’ sentiment was the perfect finishing touch.

Stay Weird Stay Wonderful | Legendary Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hi everyone, it’s Raquel here today sharing a new layout featuring the amazing new Legendary collection and the freebie cut file designed by Gwen at Cut to You exclusive to CVS. This layout today features my little man, who is not so little anymore, and our gorgeous puppy Lola.

The main feature of this layout, along with the photo of course, is the banner cut file which I have cut on black textured card stock. I normally cut all my cut files on a white so choosing the black was a big change for me. I have to say though I love the masculinity that this adds to the layout and that striking pop of contrast. To back the cut file I used both sides of the ‘Total Legend‘ patterned paper. My colour palette for this layout was to stick to the woodgrain, green, blues and greys which I was able to do with the embellishments and papers within the collection. These colours really complimented the colours in the photo of Jack and Lola.

The photo was matted on the green of the ‘Outdoors Type‘ patterned paper. I then added a cute woodgrain tab and a compass ephemera piece to the top left of the photo. The green legendary embellishment that you can see is actually a clear sticker, adhered to a piece of white card stock and cut out. I tend to do this a lot with the clear stickers as that gives me the freedom to move them around. Plus adhering them on white allows them to really feature and pop as an embellishment. I used my tiny attacher to add a few staples to the embellishments – more for a design purpose than for the use of adhesion. 

Stars feature on this layout heavily and were mainly chosen from the ephemera pack. There is nothing better than a scattering of stars on a layout, wouldn’t you agree? Of course, I added them in a number of 3. I always tend to work in threes when I embellish.

The enamel dots in this collection have this beautiful shade of blue. I scattered a few on this layout too.

For the title today, it did take me a while to figure out what I wanted to add. When going through my Legendary stash I came across the phrase ‘Stay weird, stay wonderful” on the ‘Epic Tales‘ paper and I just knew this was perfect. I fussy cut the heading out and then added my typewritten journaling in strip form underneath. 

The line style stars scattered amongst the page are a fussy cut star from the ‘Epic Tales‘ paper. I love the look of these as an added embellishment. 

I framed this layout with the woodgrain from the ‘Outdoors Type‘ paper. I love the woodgrain in this collection. So so amazing. I added extra detain to the border using machine stitching and also some staples.

This is Love | Happiness Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone,

It’s Raquel here with you today sharing with you a layout for our ‘sewing’ theme here on the CVS blog. One of my go to techniques on my layouts are to add machine sewing to my pages, so for todays layout I decided to give myself a little creative challenge and hand stitch instead. Hand stitching is something I do not particularly enjoy doing, but I always LOVE the finished outcome.

 

Here is the layout that I created to share with you today:

For todays layout I used the beautiful Happiness collection. It has to be hands down one of my favourite CVS collections. I have used the Happiness Large Die Cut heart as the main focal piece of this layout. I used the backing patterned piece as it came and simply cut away the pink pattern away from the outline so I just had the heart. I then adhered the heard to my layout using foam sheets to give it some dimension.

To embellish this page I have used mainly the floral ephemera from the die cut pack – aren’t they just stunning. I would love a whole pack of just the flowers!! I used a combination of foam and liquid adhesive to embellish my page. The photos are a series of selfies that my daughter and I took together. She is just the cutest and loves a good selfie. I printed these 4 to a page and slightly smaller on my Canon Selphy. I normally edit my photos is an app like Pic Tap Go or Pic Collage first before I print anything out. I then adhered the photos to white paper and matted the whole strip on the Expressive paper.

The tiny word stickers in the 6×12 accessory sticker sheet are a great way to add that special touch to an embellishment cluster. Here I have used the words ‘you are beautiful’ to finish that group of embellishments.

My title for this layout is using the Die cut titles pack in the collection. I adhered these words using a foam adhesive and I love how they popped off the page, especially because the navy is such a contrast to the brights. The heart near the ‘my happiness label’ is a clear sticker that I have stuck onto some white cardstock. I will do this when I want the clear sticker to be a feature that stands out.

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, the theme of todays post was sewing. So yep, I brought out my needle and a hot pink embroidery thread and got to work. To ensure my stitched border was nice and straight I added a light grey lead line using a ruler. I then used a piercing tool to pierce the holes, trying to keep them a similar distance apart. It did take a while I admit, and hats off to all those who hand stitch regularly on pages, it is not something I would do a lot – but I do love how it turned out.
