You Make Me Smile | Using a Cut File & Storyteller |Niki Rowland

Hey everyone, this is Niki here (@nikiclairecreates) with a new layout and video using the Storyteller collection. I adored this collection when it came out a few years ago and I still love it now!

I have used a cut file for this layout – I don’t use cut files very often because I have a technical issue with my Silhouette machine but I have managed to cut this one! I cut the cut file in white, and then back filled it using lots of patterns from the Storyteller A5 Paper Stack. I tried to stick to blues, greens and yellow patterns.

 

Once back filled, I placed my heart onto a white background. I added some areas of dark blue ink under the areas where my photo, title and embellishments would go. I then added lots of fussy cut flowers and Floral Ephemera and my title from the foam stickers ‘you make me smile’.

I also added a wooden button, some Chipboard Stickers and some phrase stickers from the Accessory Stickers.

I finished off with some black foam hearts, some little puffy hearts, handwritten journaling and some splatters of black paint.

I love how this layout turned out, it was lovely to use Storyteller again, and to use a cut file! I hope you like it too.

Choose Happy | Happiness collection | Tarrah McLean

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new scrapbook layout featuring the gorgeous Happiness collection! I was given the Throwback Thursday theme for this week so I decided to revisit the gorgeous Happiness collection and got creating! I don’t know about you but the Happiness collection would have to be one of my all-time favourite collections by Cocoa Vanilla, I am in love with it!

I chose to document a photo of my honey and I on a date a couple of months ago, opting to print the photo in black and white so that it would stand out amongst all the colour in the Happiness collection. I began by choosing a title cut file from CUT to YOU, cutting it out on white cardstock, I then took one of the papers from the A5 paper stack and backed the open letters in the cut file. I added craft foam to the underside of the larger letters and adhered it down in the centre of another sheet of plain white cardstock. I did leave adhesive off the top part of the cut file so that I could tuck in my photo and some embellishments and the cut file would be able to overlap these. I trimmed this white cardstock down to measure roughly 11′ x 11′ and adhered it to the ‘B’ side of the Botanical Bliss paper, I machine-stitched a border around the outside to add some texture and some interest.

I layered another of the papers from the A5 paper stack underneath the photo and also one of the frames from the ephemera pack. I also tucked one of the journal spots from the Accessory sticker sheet into the top of the frame and photo. Next, I cut out the ‘You Are My Happy’ from the A5 paper pad and adhered it to the right-hand side of the photo. I also tucked in the tag from the Accessory sticker sheet into the top of the You Are My Happy piece. I took some more ephemera pieces like the florals and butterflies and layered them around the cut file, I also layered the phrase banner die-cuts on top of the cut file.

The clear stickers in this collection are gorgeous so I added them around my page and also some of the phrase stickers from the Accessory sticker sheet as well. As I don’t journal on my pages all that much, I love how these phrase stickers help to tell the story behind my photo.

I cut a strip of the ‘B’ side of the ‘Frame of Mind’ paper and punched out a scalloped border using my border punch. I then adhered this piece below the cut file and machine-stitched through the centre to add some extra texture. Lastly I stamped the date stamp to finish my layout. A love how it turned out and hope you are inspired to get creative!

Love This | Heart & Home collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new layout featuring the gorgeous Heart & Home collection.

The Heart & Home collection is perfect for documenting photos of family. I took this photo of my parents recently at the airport before my Mum was leaving for England. I just love this photo of the 2 of them.

I started with a plain white cardstock background and chose a free quilt design cut file by Paige Evans as one of the features for my layout. I cut the cut file out from the ‘B’ side of the Framed paper and love how the wood grain looks against the white. With the bigger frame piece, I adhered the white cardstock on top of this piece and then machine stitched a border around the outside to add some texture. I then took the A5 paper stack and backed some of the open spaces. I adhered my photo on the right hand side of the page using craft foam and added one of the cardstock frames from the ephemera pack over the photo. I also tucked in one of the florals underneath, I love how you can see the different dimension I created here.

My title is made up of the gorgeous gold foil cardstock titles and I placed the title on the left of the photo using craft foam for dimension too. I layered one of the small phrase pieces from the Gather paper over the top of the title. On the right of the photo, I added more die-cut pieces from the ephemera pack and also added a puffy heart here as well.  At the top of the frame I added one of the phrase stickers from Accessory sticker sheet and also placed one of the banner stickers also from the Accessory sticker sheet at the bottom of the photo and layered a puffy heart over top of the heart on the sticker.

Next up it was time to add some more embellishments. I decided to add some of the stickers from the Accessory sticker sheet, adding 2 of the square ones to the square shapes in the cut file. I also added some more of the smaller die-cut pieces from the ephemera pack to some of the open spaces in the cut file as well. Some of them I added craft foam to underneath and some I placed flat on the page. I love the different levels of dimension not to mention the shadows this creates on a project. Lastly I added some more of the super cute puffy hearts and stamped the date stamp of when the photo was taken to finish off the layout.

I love how Cocoa Vanilla collections co-ordinate! It is so easy to create pretty projects with their gorgeous collections, I highly recommend you get the Heart & Home collection for your family memory keeping, it has perfect elements to help capture those all important memories and to tell your stories.

Families Are Like Fudge | Heart and Home | Kellie Moore

Hello and welcome back everyone. It’s Kellie here today sharing another page using the new Heart and Home collection.

Today I am documenting some silly family pics …here is my page…

I recently saw a cut file from Kelly Made It on her blog which reminded me of some of the stitched icons found in this collection and I thought it would work perfectly with this range so I chose matching embroidery threads and made them a feature on my page… love how this worked out.

I used the paper called ‘Harvest’ with the stripes to add to the top of my page and another smaller strip to the bottom… I love how this brings in all the colours of this collection. I then bought in a strip of the woodgrain paper called ‘Framed‘ to separate the stripes from the stitching.

I placed my 3 photos vertically down the right side of my page and popped them on the ‘Gather’ paper, distressing the edges to give some dimension. I also added some of the cut aparts also from the ‘Gather’ paper to add to my photos.

Next I worked on my title. I cut out a frame from the ‘Framed’ paper and used the ‘Mini Puffy Alphabet Stickers’ to add my title. I popped the frame up on foam pads to add dimension then added some florals which were cut from the ‘Bountiful’ paper to tuck in behind the frame.

Elf on the Shelf | Merry and Bright | Kellie Moore

Hello CVS fans and welcome to my first post for 2023!

Over the past few weeks I did a little Christmas scrapping and pulled out the ‘Merry and Bright’ collection which I still have a decent amount of in my stash. I love the pop of pink in this collection which doesn’t make it so ‘traditional.’ Here is a look at my page..

To start my page, I used this cut file from Paige Evans, and backed it with a bunch of the patterned papers, also using some gold glitter paper…..to me, gold screams Christmas and I love it! I think this cutfile was perfect for this photo of my twins and their elf.

Around my photo, I used some Ephemera pieces and tucked some florals in my cutfile… layers make my heart happy.

To add some separation between the cutfile and the star background paper, I added some distress oxide… I like the glow this provides to my page. I then added some of the word phrases from the Accessory sticker sheet under my photo.

I hope if you have this collection in your stash that you have been inspired to pull it out…or even the Joyful collection…another gorgeous collection.

Bloom & Grow | Unforgettable collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a sweet Spring themed layout featuring the gorgeous Unforgettable collection!

We are focusing on our current seasons this week on the Cocoa Vanilla blog with our projects! Currently we are enjoying some Spring weather here in Australia so my layout today is all about the florals and my title is pretty fitting as well! I am documenting a photo of my niece in front of a beautiful rose bush, the Unforgettable collection compliments my photo perfectly.

I chose the gorgeous teal coloured paper from the Unforgettable collection as my background. I did trim this piece down and adhered it to a sheet of plain white cardstock, I then bent the edges up to create some texture.

I chose a beautiful floral cut file from CUT to YOU that I cut up slightly and then backed it all with some of the gorgeous papers from the A5 paper stack from the Unforgettable collection.

Once the cut file was all backed, I added craft foam to the underneath and adhered it to the background paper. By using the craft foam, it creates shadows and dimension on my page which I love. Because I cut up the cut file, I was able to strategically place my photo between the 2x floral clusters, I added a small banner die-cut to the top right corner of the photo.

Next it was time to embellish and add the title. I decided to use a die-cut title from the Midnight collection – called Bloom & Grow. I added the word ‘Bloom’ to the left of the photo overlapping the small journal sticker that is tucked in to the side of the photo. I also added the ‘&’ and the ‘Grow’ at the bottom of the cut file. On the right of the photo, I added one of the super cute flair buttons from the Unforgettable collection and below the photo, I added a phrase die-cut and a word accessory sticker. I took out some of the larger florals from the ephemera pack and adhered some with craft foam and some with regular adhesive.

Some of the smaller flowers I adhered with craft foam to help them pop up and give the page some more dimension. Next I tucked in some of the pretty feathers from the ephemera pack and bent the edges up slightly on them to make them look more realistic. I just love the enamel dots in this collection and quite a few made it onto this page, I placed 2 in each cluster. I created 3 clusters of the enamel dots.

Lastly to finish my page, I stamped the date stamp and sprinkled some white mist around the page. Do you have any of the Unforgettable collection that you’re hoarding?!

Beautiful | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, It’s Melissa here and I’m back sharing another layout that I created with the beautiful Storyteller collection!  I just love that this collection is so versatile for documenting all the stories I want to tell.  For this layout I was inspired by the beautiful cameras in the collection, and I decided to scrapbook a photo of my daughters from Mother’s Day last year. I used Cross It Off for my background, and I just love the gorgeous woodgrain pattern.

The camera cut file I used is from Just Nick Studio, and was perfect to recreate the camera with florals. I love the navy blue in this collection and used Ditsy Daisy, Brighter Days, and Little Love to back the cut file.

I used lots of flowers and leaves from the Floral Ephemera pack to embellish the camera.  I bent up the petals and used lots of dimensional adhesive to keep them from laying flat. I also used one phrase from the Accessory Stickers.

I added my journaling on a piece from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and I tucked it into the floral cluster.  I love that my journaling is contained!

I selected the phrase “So Beautiful” from the Foam Title Stickers.  They sat so perfectly across the camera. My final touch was to splatter with gold shimmer which is so lovely on the woodgrain background.

I hope I’ve inspired you to take inspiration from the icons in the collection.

Love This | Storyteller collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing another layout featuring the stunning new Storyteller collection! This collection is absolutely gorgeous and so versatile for any themed projects and layouts you want to document your memories.

 For my layout today, I am documenting a photo of my Mum and myself from a recent lunch out together.

 I started by cutting out a free cut file design from Paper Issues from white cardstock and then got busy backing the hearts in the cut file with the beautiful heart and navy papers from the A5 paper stack. Once the cut file was all backed, I added craft foam underneath the cut file and adhered it to the centre of the gorgeous 12′ x 12′ wood grain patterned paper. I love the shadows and dimension this adds to my layout. I did trim down the wood grain paper a little bit and matted it with the 12′ x 12′ small floral paper. I machine stitched a border around the edge using my sewing machine with white thread.

I decided to place my photo over towards the right of the page so as not to cover up too much of the hearts in the cut file design. I chose 2 more of the papers from the A5 paper stack and trimmed them to layer under my photo. I also slightly distressed the edges of the papers, I like how this adds a little more interest and texture to my layout. I also added one of the small banner stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet to the top left corner of my photo. I also tucked in one of the tab stickers above the photo too. I created a cluster of embellishments in the bottom right corner of the photo and could not go past the ‘Special To Me’ banner piece from the ephemera pack. I added foam tape under this piece and placed it under my photo. I also added a chipboard button, heart and floral die-cuts and a couple of stickers here as well.

To the left of my photo, I added the cute camera die-cut from the ephemera pack and placed one of the gorgeous wood epoxy buttons on top. Above the camera I also added some of the phrase and word stickers from the Accessory Sticker Sheet. Below the camera die-cut I added my title which is made up of the foam title stickers. Below the title I added a die-cut butterfly and another chipboard button. You will notice in between the hearts in the cut file that I added some of the super cute enamel hearts randomly. This was mainly to enhance the heart design of the page. I love how this looks.

In the top left corner I added another cluster of embellishments here also, this cluster consists of one of the gorgeous floral die-cuts, a chipboard button and a butterfly die-cut. I added this cluster to help balance out the cluster I added in the bottom right area of the page. This helps with the flow of the page and draws the viewers eye in. With almost all of my pages, I start out adding all of the largest elements like my photo, the title and any larger embellishments. I then move to adding some smaller embellishments and then the smaller things to finish off the page. Once I had finished embellishing my page, I added some sprinkles of white mist and stamped the date stamp as well.

My World | These Days collection | Kellie Moore

Good morning everyone and welcome back to the CVS blog.

For today’s layout I thought I would pull out the ‘These Days’ collection from my stash and create a more feminine page to share with you.

I had an idea of wanting to create a design with multiple photos on my page and I managed to squeeze 18 photos on….. I have never done this before and am really happy with the result.

I decided to print off a bunch of photos of my husband with myself and all of the kids. To keep the page from getting too busy I decided to print my pictures in black and white.

I wanted to create a focal point for my title to sit on so I cut out a globe cut file and used papers from the A5 paper stack to back it.

To fill out the globe I cut out a heap of the florals from the ‘Homegrown’ paper and some of the houses from the ‘Neighbourhood’ paper. For the florals, instead of sticking them flat to the page, I simply used my hands to bend the petals slightly then glued the centres down. I finished the clusters off with some of the hearts from the ‘Clear Stickers’ and some of the word phrases from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet.’

Boys Will Be Boys | Mini Album | No Limits | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends, as promised I have created a mini album focusing on the Pocket Cards from the No Limits collection. Apart from using one 12×12 paper, Big Bang for the cover I used papers from the A5 paper pad.

This mini album is super easy to make and no cutting machine required! Here are the cutting instructions:

  1. Cut a 11 x 5 inch strip.
  2. Score 5 inches in from the left and then right. This will leave you a 1 inch spine.
  3. Cut another paper strip 3 x 5 inches.
  4. Score at 1 inch from the left and then right. This will leave you a 1 inch spine again. This binding piece will fit perfectly onto your album cover.
  5. Machine stitch binding paper strip and wet glue to your cover.
  6. Use a corner punch on front and back cover

You will see inside I have created a pocket which again is simple to do.

1.Cut a 4 x 3 inch strip.

2 Score a 1/4 inch at each side and fold under.

3. Scallop punch top of pocket.

4. wet glue each fold and a thin amount to bottom to close up.

I have added some tags to my pocket. I decorated my pocket with embellishments from the chipboard and finished off with an epoxy wooden button.

On the other side I punched a hole and added an eyelet (ensuring it would be big enough for my O ring) and threaded through an O ring I found in my stash. This is where you will add your pocket cards and photos.

I added machine stitching to all my pocket cards to add texture and left some thread on for a rustic feel. I chose the larger stars from the die cut ephemera pack which hang from the O ring.

I have added traditional photos measuring 3×4 inches and added them between the pocket cards which allows you to journal. You can also add photos to the pocket cards also. I also cut the silhouette of my son and added to a pocket card which looks super adorable and mixes things up.

I used the accessory sticker sheet phrase sentiments and added directly onto my photo.

I used the puffy stickers to also add some sparkle to the cards! The trick is to add lots of different textures to your mini album so it is not flat but has lots of dimension.

My title Boys will be Boys is a cut file from the Silhouette design store. To add dimension some letters I have added with foam tape others flat. I added a mix of chipboard stars, die cut stars and puffy sticker stars.

The wonderful thing about this album is that it is not a huge consumer of paper, saving those 12×12 papers! I do not do PL and therefore this is a fab way to use pockets cards where you can photos, mementos and add lots of journalling.
