Beautiful You | Storyteller Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey there Scrappy Friends! It’s Michelle back here with you today to share my newest creation using the Storyteller Collection. For this layout I wanted to document a couple of photos of Leila (being Leila) hanging out being the superstar that she is at her birthday celebrations last year. Hard to believe that in just 2 more months she will be 12!

I wanted to keep this layout pretty simple, with just a couple of photos, a ‘tidy’ background and my trademark floral clusters. I used the green circular pattern design from the back of the FLY AWAY paper and fussy cut 3 lines out using both scissors and my craft knife for all the inner pieces. Once ready I adhered in the top half of the white cardstock, roughly just above the centre line of the paper. I used double sided foam tape to lift it off the page just slightly.

I can’t take credit for these 2 magical photos, Leila’s aunty managed to capture them while the kids were happy playing in the massive play room while we had dinner. I kept them black and white so not to clash with the colours of the beautiful Storyteller Collection. I used 3×4 cards to back the photos before adhering to the middle of the green circles with foam for an extra pop of dimension.

Clusters created on either side of the photos using both fussy cut florals from the SPRING FLING paper (A5 paper stack size), flag banners from the ephemera pack, word flags from the STORY TIME cut apart paper, wood buttons and black foam hearts from the foam title stickers pack.

Totally obsessed with floral clusters, so much so that I ended up creating clusters similar to ones I’ve made previously. I just cant help it when florals are so so pretty and work so well in certain combinations.

These foam title stickers are the best for creating a good quick title that has impact on the page, they’re a beautiful product to work with too.

I added one last little cluster at the bottom of the layout layered together with another strip of green circles from the FLY AWAY paper, then splattered the entire layout with gold ink to finish it all off.

Here’s one more look at the entire layout, such a quick layout to recreate when you’ve got a couple of photos to document.

Totally Epic | No Limits Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, I’m so happy to be back sharing another creation with the amazing new No Limits collection!! I decided to document my teen son’s first day of school photos for 2022, and yes he gave me full permission to share these photos yay!  For layout I’m using one of my favourite papers from the collection called Eclipse.  The B side is a cut apart sheet which I just had to use as a full sheet because I love how the patterns look together!

I decided to create a pocket-style page, but without the pockets. In order to break up the different rectangles I machine stitched in black thread intentionally uneven.  I stitched two rows close together along each of the lines.

I had taken three photos of Sam at home before he walked to school.  I loved that I was able to use them all, and backed each of them with papers from the A5 Paper Stack.  Rather than stick within the confines of each rectangle, I decided to add interest by going over the lines.

I embellished with a mix of Die Cut Ephemera, Accessory Stickers, Chipboard Stickers, Wood Buttons, and Puffy Stickers.  I had so much fun deciding what to put where!

For my journaling I used a Pocket Card (which I fussy cut shown in the photo above) and a journaling spot from the Die Cut Ephemera.  I added black machine stitching on them for extra interest and texture.

For my title I used a word from the Die Cut Titles paired with a word from the Chipboard Stickers. I love the two different textures together.

Captured | These Days | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share featuring the These Days Collection, and boy was it a fun one to create! I had the joy this week of Scrap-lifting one of my fellow DT Members Kylie, and yes a challenge it was. I had the hardest time deciding which beautiful layout of hers to recreate as they’re all so stunning! I chose something wonderful that was created a couple of years back, heres my version…

Fussy cut florals eat your heart out! If you cant tell by what I’ve created, I chose the absolutely stunning layout Kylie created with the Unforgettable collection and all those beautiful hand made flowers. Now my layout doesn’t stack up to the amazing creation below, but I’m still pretty happy with the outcome.

To create my version of Kylies layout I turned the orientation of the layout around in a couple of different ways. I used the design of the layout as a sketch and both rotated and mirror flipped it to create the design of my own layout. I used similar elements and pattern ideas that Kylie has used, just in a slightly different way.

I started with a pattern paper background using a mix of dotted paper, wood grain paper and a multicolour pattern to peek out between the 2.  (Family Ties & Pretty Posies paper)

I scrapped a cute photo of Leila from many many moons ago, almost 10 years ago to be exact. I printed the photo in black and white as I knew I’d be adding A LOT of colour within the clusters of florals and didn’t want them to clash. I added a couple of layers of A5 papers behind and adhered it over the background using foam for a hint of dimension amongst all the other layers.

I added the title to the photo using a foam word title from the Unforgettable collection along with 2 cut apart pieces from the Good Life paper that I adhered with a little foam tape.

Next up was the fun part of creating clusters of florals in a diagonal line across the layout. I had pre-cut tonnes of flowers from the Home Grown paper in both 12×12 and A5 sizes while sitting on the couch one night a few weeks back so there was plenty to play with. I layered the florals using both foam tape and glue dots and added a touch of silver thread for added texture. The cute gold glitter heart adds another form of texture and dimension to the cluster along with the cute mini puffy hearts

I used more of the same elements in the top cluster too. Just love these colours together

On the right side of the photo I’ve added more florals in a mini cluster along with a frame from the Wall of Frame paper, cut apart pieces from the Good Life paper, more puffy stickers and thread

I really enjoyed creating this layout, especially making floral clusters with all those gorgeous flowers and I certainly never grow tired of creating with them.

Memories Together | These Days | Michelle Stokes

Hey Everyone Its Michelle back here today with a new layout to share with you all. I’ve scrapped a funny moment with Leila using the new These Days collection, ensuring the silly photos also get documented in our albums. It cant always be about the sunshine and rainbows… or can it?

I started by adhering a strip along the bottom of some white cardstock. This rainbow printed strip can be found on the bottom of the ‘Good Life‘ cut apart paper. Next I printed a set of photos in black and white slightly smaller than 3x4inch size and adhered both to different complimenting pattern papers (one of which is a pocket page card). I also cut a 3rd piece from another patter the same size to create a base for my large cluster, plus a trip of another complimentary pattern to tuck underneath. All 3 ‘cards’ were adhered to the cardstock using foam for a little dimension off the page. I tried flat scrapping this layout, and it just isn’t me. Give me ALL the dimension without bulking up the albums too much.

The photos I’ve used aren’t spectacular, but they’re certainly something funny to document. I think Leila and I sat this way for over an hour, her watching something on the iPad and me the tv. Yep we’re oh so weird in this household!

Next up I worked on the main cluster using some of the beautiful florals from the ‘Home Grown‘ paper that I had pre-cut on the couch a few nights prior. I wrapped them around the cute little ephemera piece that I thought worked perfectly for a mum & child layout. I used a couple of different forms of adhesive for this cluster to give the florals layered dimension.

The title was one that came together really quickly using our fancy new foam title pack plus a cut apart piece and word sticker from the accessory sheet.

Under the title I added another floral cluster, similar to the first one I created. Again using different forms of adhesive for layered dimension.

Heres another peek at the top cluster where I’ve used word strips from the a5 size cut apart sheet, and a cute gold glitter heart.

Lastly a 3rd mini cluster of florals was made at the top corner to balance out the entire layout but creating a visual triangle. Sometimes I don’t stick to this rule as it depends on the orientation of the layout, but most of the time I feel that it really gives a layout a more finished cohesive look. Oh and I also added a splattering of gold ink, cant forget that finishing touch either!

These Days | These Days | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle here on the blog today with a brand spankin new layout share that features our amazing NEW collection – These Days. Love Love LOVING the soft colour palette and all the pretty patterns within this collection. Its perfect to mix together within a grid style layout like I have done, which some of you might say is very similar to one I’ve made in the past. You’d all be correct as its the newest addition to my yearly themed layout of ALL things Leila.

For those who aren’t quite familiar with what I’m talking about, heres a look at the previous 2 layouts I created in past years using the same layout design, same design techniques and recording the same details as years past. I’ve done this so in years to come we can look back on all the fun things that Leila loved each year, and its an easy way to simplify scrapbooking when you just want to document memories quickly.

The main focus of this layout is to share Leilas current favourites at the same time each year, along with a current photo. However, this year has been a little hectic and It skipped my mind to get it done scrapped so its a couple months later than usual.

To start off the layout I grabbed the a5 paper stack and flipped through to fins 6 complimentary pattern papers to create the grid background. I sewed around each piece using machine stitching adding a couple of extra detailed stitches in random places. Next up I worked on creating the list on a ‘clip board’ using some scrap notepaper and adhered to the woodgrain pattern paper from the a5 paper stack. I’ve used the fancy new black foam title stickers as a title and added mini puffy number stickers from the new mini puffy alphabet set for her age plus a cute little puffy house sticker and gold heart to bring the B&W photo and list together. I used the rainbow watercolour stripe a5 paper as a base for the photo, tucked in a label tab from the ephemera pack, created a mini floral cluster of both ephemera and fussy cut florals (Home Grown paper) and added a few accessory word stickers to finish off this area of the layout.

At the top left of the layout I created one magical cluster of ephemera pieces, wood button, puffy heart sticker, wreath from the Good Life cut apart paper and foam leaf from the foam title stickers pack.

I replicated a similar cluster at the bottom right using more ephemera, wood button, florals and foam leaf strand.

At the top I added a couple of banner flag pieces from the Good Life cut apart paper.

Lastly a close up of some of the messy stitching, oh so slightly distressed paper edges and a sprinkling of gold colour shine to finish it all off.

Feelin’ Fine Together | Sunkissed Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle back here today with a new rainbow inspired layout share. I’ve been itching to make something with all the patterns and colours from the Sunkissed collection since it arrived, and even though theres similar layouts out there I just couldn’t myself. The papers practically stuck themselves down haha

I started by cutting and tearing pieces of almost all the patterns within the A5 paper stack, plus a couple from the 12×12 papers. Enough to create a bunch of strips in different sizes to layer together down the side of the page. I originally had them overlapping the edge of the right hand side from top to bottom, but then changed direction after I created the background on cardstock.

I made the Rainbow background using shimmer inks and plastic packing technique to create a watercolour effect, and then ended up covering most of it with the paper strips. Its always a shame to cover up something so pretty.

The photo I’ve documented is a family snap from a couple years back that I realise now as Im typing this I’ve already scrapped. Haha Does this happen to anyone else? You can see in the close up above that Ive sewn through a majority of the paper strips to add a little extra detail to the layout. I’ve also adhered some of the strips using foam tape to give them a little dimension. This made adding the photo a little tricky as it needed different depths of foam adhesive to fit over all the layers.

I backed the photo with the pretty rainbow splatter pattern paper that you can find in the A5 paper stack.

I created the title with the ‘Feelin’ Fine’ piece from the 12×12 cut apart paper – Fun in the Sun, plus one of the last remaining gold glitter title words I have left. I might have to add more of these packs to my collection as I just love them! Both title pieces worked perfectly in rainbow order, right where I needed them to be.

At the top left of the paper strips I created a pink cluster, in line with all the pink coloured strips. I’ve used a mix of florals, stickers, puffy stickers and bits from the cut apart papers

And then I replicated the cluster at the bottom within the blue hue section also. The florals I’ve used are from the Floral Ephemera pack, something I’ve not even touched as I was so floral fussy cutting crazy on previous layouts.

Fun in the Sun | Sunkissed Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle back here on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog with a new layout featuring our sweet NEW Sunkissed Collection. I’m still loving the bright fun colours of this collection, and yep those florals make another appearance

I created another mixed media background using some green and teal inks, smooshed together using my go to piece of bubble wrap plus a few extra splatters. I created vertically across the layout within the top 2/3. I used some of the cute heart paper ‘Feelin’ Fine’ as the main pattern paper, with hints of the blue version of ‘Fun in the Sun’ florals from the A5 paper stack. Both sections of pattern paper have machine stitching around the edges for a little extra detail.

The photo I’ve documented from 2019 is a cute moment when we visited the local rock pools. This was a time when Mario and Luigi came everywhere with Leila, but she didn’t have enough hands to carry everything while discovering creatures, so had left them safely sitting on a dry area on the rocks. I layered the photo backed with some papers from the A5 paper stack on top of the larger section of pink heart paper, then created a large floral cluster to the left using fussy cut florals from the ‘Growing Wild’ paper and floral ephemera pieces 

Love a good floral cluster, as most of you would guess from almost all of my layouts. OOH and how cute are the new puffy stickers that Zoe has added to this collection!!

And excitement PLUS that the Wood Buttons have made a comeback! I think I shared my excitement for them in a previous post too

I used the awesome new Gold Glitter words for the title, so many cool phrases to use within the pack too.

Over on the right I created a cluster of more florals, made a tag using the cute rainbow spot paper from the A5 paper stack and the matching journal card from the ephemera pack. I added the flip flops from the ephemera pack as we were at the beach and another of the cool puffy stickers. All pieces within both clusters either side of the layout were adhered using foam tape and glue dots for different heights of dimension.

Here’s another look at the final layout. I’m really impressed with myself for creating yet another layout with a mixed media background, even if it was just the simple plastic packaging technique.

Cheers | Sunkissed Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! Its Michelle back here today with a new layout share. I’ve used the stunning new Sunkissed Collection and went a little crazy again with the fussy cut florals from the Growing Wild paper.

You will also notice that I added a touch of mixed media to the background of this layout, just like I’ve done with the last couple. You might be able to say that this clean scrapper has been slightly converted to the messy side. I went with the packaging technique using watered down ink sprays and some bubble wrap, giving the background a watercolour look. Then added a strip of Sunny Days across the middle to hide all the ugly parts and sewed it in place for a subtle hint of texture

The entire layout came together pretty quickly once all the elements were fussy cut, but I did notice towards the end that I was creating a layout design that is very similar to the last layout I shared. Whoops!

The photos I’ve documented are some of many taken at the last Cocoa Vanilla Studio Creative Escape Retreat. It’s hard to believe that this retreat was almost 2 years ago, but man we had a ripper time! This outdoor seating area was perfect for an afternoon beverage, even if it was just a Lemon Lime & Bitters.

I backed the larger photo with a piece of wood grain from the A5 Paper stack and the super pretty pink hearts paper Feelin’ Fine. There’s a tab from the ephemera pack tucked into the top, date label from the Fun in the Sun cut apart paper layered behind and a banner from the ephemera pack over the top. I added the smaller photo, backed with the A5 version of Feelin’ Fine, to the bottom left of the larger photo layered with the ‘welcome to paradise’ tag. This whole piece was raised off the background using a piece of foam sheet.

Next to create was the fun title to the right of the photo using a banner from the Fun in the Sun cut apart sheet and the word CHEERS from the gorgeous GOLD Glitter Foam Titles. Under this I’ve added more pieces from both sizes of the Fun in the Sun cut apart sheet and sewn through them to keep in place. There’s a phrase sticker above this from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

Above the title is the first of 3 floral clusters, this one made of multiple fussy cut floral pieces from the Growing Wild paper, a cute palm tree from the ephemera pack and a sweet little pink drink puffy sticker

Under the photo is the second large floral cluster using more fussy cut florals, some fun heart sunglasses from the puffy sticker sheet and another phrase sticker

Up at the top of the layout I kept the cluster very small using the same type of embellishments as the other two to tie it all together.

Here’s one final look at the entire layout. I’m super happy with the end result and glad I’ve  been able to document another memory from this wonderful week in paradise using this wonderful collection.

HAPPY DAYS WITH YOU | DAYDREAM | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative friends, Gwen back on the blog today with a new share and today’s layout is featuring the stunning ‘Daydream’ collection. For today, I decided to have a play with the cut apart pattern paper in the collection called ‘Happy Place’. It’s fun to see just how many elements I can get out of one sheet of pattern paper!

To begin my page, I’ve created a background with the ‘Serenity’ pattern paper as my border and a plain white cardstock from my stash. I’ve then used the centre of the ‘Serenity’ paper to cut out some simple banner strips. I’ve done this with a cut file from CUT to YOU but you could also do this with a border punch or even just fussy cut out the design freehand with your scissors.

Next, I’ve cut the striped piece and the heart row from the ‘Happy Place’ pattern paper. I’ve layered these two pieces with the banner pieces to create my background. I’ve added them randomly, working bottom to top along the centre line of the page, adding stitching to the top of each banner piece as I go.

I’ve then also added in three of the smaller banner pieces from the cut apart sheet and added stitching to those too. These are normally used as journaling spots, but I’m using them here just as parts of my layers.

I’ve then positioned my photo. I think this design works particularly well with photos that are landscape as the banner pieces in the background draw the eye across the page. I have used foam tape for this as well, just for added dimension.

I’ve used the cut apart sheet again for the text element ‘Beautiful’ which is positioned above my photo. I’ve also fussy cut out three of the cute rainbows and added those above and below my photo running along the same lines as the banner pieces.

I’ve also added in here some stickers from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ as well as fussy cut out floral elements from the ‘Garden Variety’ pattern paper and butterflies from the ‘All a Flutter’ pattern paper.

Here you can see a close up of the stitched details. To finish the page off, I’ve added a few typed sentiments from the ‘Accessory Sticker sheet’ and a Flair button.

Life is short, Eat the Cake | Make a Wish | Michelle Stokes

A big Hello to you scrappy friends! It’s Michelle back here today with a new layout share featuring an older collection that holds a sweet spot in my heart – Make a Wish. I love that this collection is perfect to document birthday memories, but is versatile enough to just create something soft, sweet and feminine. This layout documents Leila’s most recent birthday, the last in single digits.

I’d been holding onto this fun cut file from CUT to YOU for a little while now, ready and waiting for the perfect birthday photos. I wanted to keep the layout ‘fuss free’ without the massive clusters I’ve created in the past. I started with a full sheet of that wonderful woodgrain (reverse side of FRESH CUT) for the background of the layout. I added a couple of rough torn strips of HIP HOORAY to the bottom third of the layout to use as a base for the cut file and photos.

Next I cut the cut file out on white cardstock and backed it using my ultimate favourite paper of all time DAYDREAM and adhered that to the left side of the layout using foam tape for a little extra dimension,

To the right of the cut file I adhered the photos using a little of the PARTY DOTS paper to layer underneath. I also added an accessory sticker, ‘beautiful’ word strip from the PARTY MIX cut apart paper and the ‘make a wish’ came from the barcode strip on one of the papers.

Above the photos I added a cake that was cut from the PARTY MIX paper, an accessory word sticker and crystal heart and sequins from the bits & bobs pack, plus some stars from the ephemera pack.

Lastly this bottom mini cluster created with leaves, numbers strip and star from the ephemera pack, sequins from the bits & bobs plus the hat and fabulous ticket from the PARTY MIX paper. I also added a sprinkling of gold colour shine and called it done. I had so much fun creating this layout while my sweet nephew watched along asking questions about the process. I think both him and Leila might be ready for a little crafting class of their own.
