You Rock | Legendary collection | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy with you today, and I’m kicking off our Stars and Stripes theme that we’ll be featuring here on the blog for the next few days. I couldn’t go past using the amazing Legendary collection for this! I’ve definitely hoarded this collection, and it’s still one of my favourite masculine themed ranges. I decided on documenting a photo of my hubby on this layout, and I converted the photo to black and white to help it to really pop against all of the bright and bold colours in this collection.

I started this layout off by using the reverse side of the Epic Tales paper as my background. To bring in the ‘Stripes’ element of the theme I couldn’t go past using the gorgeous Wild One paper. I LOVE the beautiful artsy rainbow stripes on this paper and I added a strip of it across the bottom half of the layout. I distressed the edges of the paper before I adhered it to give it lots of nice texture. Next I used a notebook border punch on the blue Offbeat paper and then tucked this under the bottom edge of the striped paper.

I matted my photo with the beautiful woodgrain Outdoors Type paper and then adhered it on the left hand side of the page, overlapping the striped paper. To give the layout some more movement and interest, I adhered the photo on an angle. I also added a layer of craft foam underneath it to lift it off the page and add dimension.

Next I brought in the stars, which are one of my favourite elements to add to a masculine themed project! I included stars from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and the Clear Stickers, as well as some that I fussy cut out of the All Star patterned paper. I scattered them from the bottom left hand corner of the page up to the top right hand corner. This helps to draw the viewers eye from the photo, up through the title, and to the cluster in the top right. I adhered some directly to the page and others were adhered with foam tape to help them pop off the page.

Along the top of the page I added a narrow strip of both the All Star and the Offbeat patterned papers. I then created a cluster in the top right hand corner of the page using more Die Cuts and fussy cut stars, as well as a little banner Sticker.

To finish the layout off I added my title and typed journaling. For my title I decided on using the awesome Clear Stickers and I love the way this gives the look of it being handwritten directly onto the page!

Sunny Days | Sunkissed Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends well before I move onto the new gorgeous Storyteller collection which arrived in my mail box today here is a layout using an older collection (but still a fav of mine) Sunkissed . I had many of the wood epoxy buttons left that I decided to make them a focus of my layout.

I decided to create a non summer themed layout using the blue and pink palette and of course wood epoxy buttons! This beautiful Butterfly cut file is from the Silhouette Design Store, I just love the way there is tiny butterflies coming from the wing. I chose the deep blue and pink heart papers to create my butterfly, I used foam tape on the tiny butterflies to add dimension. I added the gorgeous dark blue heart button on my butterfly.

I added some die cut clouds to create the illusion of a sky above the butterfly. This is where I got to add two of the wood epoxy buttons, cute tiny rainbows! To add balance I added a puffy cloud sticker and to finish off I tucked two of the puffy sticker flowers behind the die cut clouds.

I then added my 3×3 inch photo (you could obviously add a larger one) matting it on some paper scraps in a way you could see each pattern peeping through. My photo is adhered with foam tape to add height. I added one of the large wood epoxy buttons to the left of my photo slightly over the photo mat, another rainbow but this time multi coloured.

I created a floral bunch using the floral die cut ephemera, layering and using foam tape and finished of with a phrase sentiment from the accessory sticker sheet.

I used the paint brush strokes from the clear sticker sheet to add a contrast against the white, which is also why I added a border using a light blue, this avoids the white background paper being too overwhelming. Over the top I added my title Sunny Days which again is a cut file from the Silhouette Design store. I added another wood epoxy button, I think this one with the word ‘fun’ just a perfect little extra to my title.

In total I managed to use five wood epoxy buttons on this layout! I probably wouldn’t use that many normally because I always hoard embellishments like this!!!! So if you have any Sunkissed left here is an idea to create a non summer layout.

Hello Beautiful | Happiness collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share another design team project with you. For today’s post I was tasked with scraplifting the amazingly talented Sophie Delorme, which was simultaneously exciting, but terrifying. It’s no secret I have a huge scrappy crush on Sophie’s work, so to be asked to scraplift one of her layouts was no easy feat. How would I ever choose? Or do it justice? In the end, I chose a stunning autumnal themed layout that she created a few months ago using the ‘These Days’ collection.

And here is my take on it using the ‘Happiness’ collection…

I have to admit, the clincher that made me choose this particular layout of Sophie’s was the butterflies. And I couldn’t help but reach for the collection with my all-time favourite Cocoa Vanilla butterflies – ‘Happiness’. I think I will actually cry the day I use my last scraps of this collection.

Sophie and I have daughters that are very close in age, so just like Sophie did for her layout, I wanted to document a photo of my gorgeous girl too. Due to her position, where she was facing towards the left side of the photo I chose to mirror the design so I could position my photo closer to the left edge of the page and having her facing inwards. (Tip: always position your photos so the main subject is facing towards the larger space on your page.)

Just like Sophie’s original, I added torn paper along the bottom edge of the page; and instead of the Pocket Cards that she had used across the middle, I used pieces of patterned paper cut to size. I chose the piece with the two large butterflies and hello beautiful on it to act as my title card, which was cut from the cut apart paper. On top of the the heart paper I added some of the phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet, which I had mounted onto some pink paper to give them a little definition against the background.

From the torn paper along the bottom edge, I added fussy cut flowers spilling out and winding their way up along the right edge of the photo. these were layered to give them depth and I used foam tape under the one on the corner of the photo for even more dimension. I couldn’t help but add a little frayed gauze for some texture too.

The only item I used on my page that wasn’t from the ‘Happiness’ collection, was the small wood button that was actually from the ‘Sunkissed’ collection. ‘Happiness’ did not have wood buttons, and as Sophie had used one on her page I wanted to include one too. I also wanted to add a couple of embellishments to my photo, so I chose a small heart flag and a phrase banner from the Die Cut Ephemera pack.

I substituted the journalling from Sophie’s layout with a couple of paint swatch stickers from the Clear Sticker sheet and I like the mixed media touch they gave the page. The star of the embellishment show however, was the glorious burst of fussy cut butterflies spilling upwards from the title card. I bent their wings up from the page to give them dimension and a sense of movement. The final touch was some small splatters of navy mist (because I couldn’t have my layout too clean, could I?)

My World | These Days collection | Kellie Moore

Good morning everyone and welcome back to the CVS blog.

For today’s layout I thought I would pull out the ‘These Days’ collection from my stash and create a more feminine page to share with you.

I had an idea of wanting to create a design with multiple photos on my page and I managed to squeeze 18 photos on….. I have never done this before and am really happy with the result.

I decided to print off a bunch of photos of my husband with myself and all of the kids. To keep the page from getting too busy I decided to print my pictures in black and white.

I wanted to create a focal point for my title to sit on so I cut out a globe cut file and used papers from the A5 paper stack to back it.

To fill out the globe I cut out a heap of the florals from the ‘Homegrown’ paper and some of the houses from the ‘Neighbourhood’ paper. For the florals, instead of sticking them flat to the page, I simply used my hands to bend the petals slightly then glued the centres down. I finished the clusters off with some of the hearts from the ‘Clear Stickers’ and some of the word phrases from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet.’

Bloom & Grow | Unforgettable Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with an Easter layout using the gorgeous Unforgettable collection! These sweet pictures of my daughters opening their Easter baskets were just perfect for this colour scheme. I split my photos into two clusters along the horizontal line of my background. I used a the frame from the ephemera pack and backed it with paper from the A5 paper stack, then tucked it behind one of the photos.  Adding florals and a camera to finish off this cluster, then a few butterflies for movement.

On the right side, I added a cut-apart piece and clustered floral and ephemera circle behind that photo. Along the side, I added a tab, camera, and butterfly, as well as clear stickers to create a base layer under the other pieces. I love the mixed media style clear stickers for just this kind of accent.

I love these foam titles and just had to use ‘Bloom & Grow’ for this layout. It was the perfect sentiment for my darling girls who are growing like weeds! Layering the clear stickers gives the appearance of depth behind the title and photos.

Crazy divers | Sunkissed Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends! Welcome on Throwback Thursday kind of a post. This time I get a pleasure to rediscover one of the older Cocoa Vanilla collections. You know I love them all and I love coming back to them, combining bits and pieces and pattern papers. This time however I focused on one line only and I pulled out “Sunkissed”. It was hidden for the period of winter but it’s time for the big comeback of vivid colors and summer motifs! I pulled out two most expensive photos in my mamarazzi career and scrapbook them with little mixed media vibe. If you wonder why they are the most expensive, let me only tell you that I was convinced my new smartphone is waterproof… It wasn’t. At least I got those photos, right? :D

I started with sheet of watercolor paper as my background. I knew I wanted to use water so I had to be sure to use the proper base paper. Next step was to apply some clear gel medium through stencil with circles in different sizes. They are going to mimic the air bubbles in water. Gel medium is transparent and shiny when it’s dry and it’s also color resistant. Just make sure you dried it well before moving to next step.

I picked three Distress Oxide inks in “Mermaid lagoon”, “Broken china” and “Peacock feathers” colors and tap them all over the background and sprayed everything with clear water. Colors mixed with water well and started floating on the surface. I dried the background with the heat gun removing excess of water with paper towel. When everything was dry, I took a blending brush and applied some ink through the stencil in random spots. The background was done!

I was ready to start building my composition. My pictures didn’t have any white outline so I back them with some pattern papers to make them pop from the background. I used “Bright side” and “Sunny days” for this purpose. Idea for this page was to create an underwater scene so I kept it very monochromatic, in all shades of blue. I also cut out circles in various sizes using the same pattern papers adding few scraps from A5 Paper Stack.

Few bits and pieces from Ephemera Pack serve as an embellishments scattered around the photos. I also added my beloved Wooden Buttons and Puffy Stickers here and there. They are the best finishing elements. I was almost done with my page, when I noticed I also got some transparent stickers left so I added few of them in the background using mostly blue ones. They work best on light backgrounds, like the one I have in my page.

Oh You | Daydream | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends today I have a 8.5 x 11 inch layout to share with you using Daydream collection. There is nothing cuter than a baby themed layout and Daydream has enough elements to create this theme.

I love this clipboard cut file (available in the Silhouette design store) and wanted to frame my photos in a unique way. I cut two, the first to add my photo and the second which is smaller to add journalling. The woodgrain paper for the clipboard. I used the Daisy Days  paper using the blue daisy side on the larger clip board and the reverse side on the smaller one. I added machine stitching to these two paper pieces and added to the woodgrain paper piece. I then added to my clipboard with foam tape to add dimension.

I used the Accessory Sticker sheet to add my journalling to the smaller clipboard.  I tucked two small floral die cuts and then layered a moth over the top with foam tape. I added the clip with foam tape and finished off by adding two tiny flowers and a paintbrush stroke clear sticker under this embellishment cluster.

I added another layer of paper on the larger board, adding a paper square behind my photo (which is 3×3 inches). I added my photo with foam tape again to add dimension and tucked a tab under the top of the photo. I created a large floral embellishment using die cut ephemera cluster, layering and adding foam tape to some of the flowers. As my photo has some negative space I added a cute flair.

Before adding the clip to the top of the board I added an eyelet and threaded a heart charm. Lastly I added my title.

I used die cut titles to create part of my title, so these did not appear ‘flat’ I added with foam tape. I just had to add puffy hearts and created the other part of my title using a die cut phrase.

I love how this layout turned out with the beautiful rich colours, texture and dimension. Baby collections can be limiting in use so being able to use a collection that lends itself to a variety of themes is great and Daydream is that collection.

Love | Sunkissed Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello everyone, its Melissa here and after weeks of creating Christmas pages I’m so happy to be back creating with the gorgeous Sunkissed collection. In fact it was a recent photo of my two youngest daughters at the beach that inspired a return to creating with this collection!

This month we are focusing on scraplifting ourselves, which is something I love to do when I’m lost for creative flow!  Here is the fun and colourful layout I created.

And here is the original layout that I decided to scrap lift, which I created last year in February using the stunning These Days collection. I didn’t realise that it was created nearly a year ago when I selected it, and I was pleasantly surprised!

The first thing I decided to do was use a cut file, and this one by Paige Evans was perfect!  I backed the letters with papers from the A5 Paper Stack.

I had so much fun recreating this layout with bright and bold colours, and I used Distress Oxides to applied with a small stamping block a more intensional position of ink than the packaging technique. I colour matched the colours of inks with the colours of the papers backing the cut file.

For the positioning of my photo I copied the original layout, and the smaller photo was perfect.  It lets the cut file standout, but still shines as the main feature of the layout!  I embellished with lots of Floral Ephemera, Clear Stickers, gold glitter hearts from the Foam Title Stickers and one Accessory Sticker.

I love how this scraplift turned out, you should definitely try lifting yourself!

Best Adventure | Legendary collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new scrapbook layout featuring the awesome Legendary collection. I have documented a rare photo of myself and my family from a day out together last year.

This week I had the task of scrap lifting myself, I chose my original 8.5′ x 11′ size layout below to ‘lift’ and chose the same collection to work with however I changed the size from the 8.5′ x 11′ into a 12′ x 12′ size.

You can see I added lots of the same elements in the same positions on my new page, including the large banner piece on the left as the main focus and a smaller cluster in the bottom right corner also. I cut the large banner piece from the ‘B’ side of the Explorer paper and popped it up using foam tape. The back ground paper is no longer available in the Cocoa store however the orange paper that the layout is matted on is the ‘B’ side of the One Way paper.

I placed my photo slightly to the right of the banner piece and placed the wood frame over the top to draw some attention to the photo. I tucked in one of the large stars from the ephemera pack under the top left of the photo. Two more stars were added to the lower part on the right of the banner to continue the stars across the page. I also took the round piece that says authentic and tucked that piece into the left of the photo also. On top of the frame I added the Sweet As sticker from the Accessory sticker pack and adhered one of the arrows from the ephemera pack to the bottom of the frame also. 

My title is made up of the Die Cut titles and I also added one of the words from the Clear Sticker pack. I added a few more of the word and phrase stickers from the Accessory sticker pack, some enamel dots and a few more of the smaller stars from the ephemera pack popped up on pop dots. Lastly I bent the edges of the background paper to add a little texture to my page and I stamped the date stamp.

My biggest treasure | These days Layout | Anna Komenda

Welcome crafty friends! It’s Anna here with my newest page. I decided to let the christmas go (even though I stil have plenty of “Joyful” collection on hand) and created a generic type of page, where I could play with colors. I was missing it so much! It’s not a vivid, summer rainbow as I used a bit muted and dreamy “These days” collection, but it still warms my heart. I am total sucker for colors. Inspiration for this page was very simple – pie chart! It’s not the first one I created in this style and for sure not last. This composition is great if you like mixing pattern papers. You can even use up some paper scraps!

This page is based on “These days” collection mostly but I also mixed in few other pattern papers, as I needed some green and navy to finish the rainbow order. I reached for some “Merry and bright” paper scraps with red and white stripes and green chequered pattern. I also added “Up in the clouds“, “Sun shower” and “Happy place” patterns from “Daydream” collection. Orange “Wall of fame” and mint “Family ties” along with some patterns from Paper Stack come from “These days” line.

The easiest way to make a pie chart type of layout is to take some unused 12*12 paper or a failed background, mark the point you want your triangles to meet and think of a number of triangles you want to include. Then, simply start drawing lines starting at the chosen point to the edges of the page using ruler. After you are happy with how it looks, cut out triangles (don’t forget to number them first so you won’t  be lost later) and use them as a stencils on pattern paper. This is exactly what I did here. You can save those triangles for any future pie chart layout!

After parts of my pie chart were ready, I glued them down over the white sheet of paper. I also added stitching along each side for more texture. Best spot for the photo is in the middle of the pie chart as the eye is naturally drawned to this point by all the lines. My paper pieces are arranged in rainbow order but you can create anything you want! Use only shades of one color or mix two colors. There are many possibilities. Next step was to decorate everything with lovely flowers from Floral Ephemera Pack. They come in many colors, shapes and sizes, along with some leaves and twigs, that you will be able to make many amazing projects with just one pack of them. I placed my flowers color on color enchancing the rainbow order. I also fussy cut few butterflies from “Take flight” paper and added thm to composition.

Few more transparent stickers and puffy stickers here and there and a title made with super cute puffy alpha stickers and the page was done. I don’t think I will ever get tired of making projects like this one – full of colors and flowers, with a girly vibe.
