Super Awesome | Legendary Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello its Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back sharing a sports layout with you that I created with the amazingly versatile Legendary collection.  The photo is of my son at our New Zealand National Jiu-Jitsu Tournament in 2018.  I always think a sports layout is the perfect way to feature stars, especially when its a boy layout too!!

 

For this layout I really wanted to feature some of the gorgeous star die cuts from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, and I knew that I wanted to have them hanging like a key chain.  My photo was taken in 2018 and Sam was aged 11 at the time, so I really wanted to make sure the key chain feature looked masculine, and not girly or like a baby mobile. In order to this I used a really old banner paper clip from my stash, which also enabled me to attach the stars to my photo. The papers that you can see backing my photo are Offbeat, One Way, and All Star.

I created a shaker pocket from the largest star with plastic packaging, which I hand stitched to close the pocket.  I used some sequins to fill my pocket, and then attached all of the stars with some blue and white stripped twine.  I backed the second largest star with Outdoors Type and then punched holes in all of the stars to thread the twine through.  I arranged all of the stars with different lengths of twine, and then tied them in a knot around the paper clip.  It was a little fiddly, but so worth it!

I created my background with gesso first, then texture paste through a stencil followed by water activated powders that I applied with the packaging technique, and then splatters.  I always think its worth taking the time to dry in between layers of powders to get defined spatters.

Most of my embellishing was done with one of my favourite Cocoa Vanilla Studio supplies, the Clear Stickers.  I also used a phrase from the clear stickers for my title.   I finished my embellishing with a couple of the Accessory Stickers on my photo, and a subtle piece of ephemera which I cut in half and used as a layer under the paper layers.  In order to ground my photo I used a torn strip of Off Beat on the left side of my page.

The Mountains are Calling | Legendary Collection | Anna Blades

Hi everyone!

Anna here with you today with a new layout featuring the awesome “Legendary” collection. With this page, I really went out of my comfort zone: no pink and no flowers!!

I started googling a mountain shape and with my Silhouette Cameo, I traced it and cut it. Then, I used it as a stencil with my distress inks in white cardstock. I love how this background turned out!

I also created the title with my Silhouette Cameo, using both sides of the Outdoors Type paper in two different fonts, and I raised the word “mountains” with foam dots. I stacked a flair button with the same pattern next to it (and could be used as a subtitle).

From the Die Cut Ephemera pack, I choose two that had mountains and placed them on both sides of my picture. The picture was matted with the B side of the Wild One paper and the whole page with the Outdoors Type paper too. I also made a machine stitching all around it.

Finally, some stars from the Die Cut Ephemera in the sky and some clear stickers.

It was so hard not to use pink at all, but I love the final result! I hope you like it too!

Scraplift a Fan! | Mixed collections | Rachel Lowe

Hey CVS friends, I loved this challenge and have chosen a fab layout created by Natalie King for the Grab 5 INSD 2020 challenge. And here is her gorgeous layout.

And here is my scrap lift of her layout.

I have used a mix of Bohemian Dream and Wild At Heart collections. I first cut a doily on my Silhouette instead of Natalie’s circle at 8 inches. I cut my white cardstock down to 10×10 inches. I used the vibrant Flower Child paper as my border page (creating a stark contrast for visual impact). I then used two polaroid die cut frames (these photos are 2.5×3 and 2×2 inches) and added with smaller photo with foam tape.

I next created the 3 embellishments clusters as Natalie did. I used the Bohemian Dream Ephemera die cuts, layering under and over the photos and a smaller one under the doily.

I have used enamel dots and some clear stickers to add a little mixed media feel and add more dimension.

You will see here that I have not glued the outer part of my doily cut file, only adhering the centre, this ensure it does not look ‘flat’ and helps create another layer on the layout.

I finished off my layout adding a clear sticker brush stroke on the edge of the white cardstock and added a sentiment banner over the top

I had such fun scrap lifting this layout! I also love going back and revisiting older collections and falling in love with them all over again! Thanks for stopping by and see you again soon.

Explore | Legendary Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back with a super fun scraplift of one of our amazing Facebook Group’s members! This is a stunning layout by Lisa Johnston for the mood board challenge on International Scrapbooking Day and it just grabbed my attention! It was so lovely, layered, and filled with butterflies, so of course it was calling to me! I decided to take on her grid style, but add some extra photos and a masculine theme.

I started with the Offbeat patterned paper for the background. So, for each part of the grid, I essentially created a mini layout with a background, focal image, and detail work. On this top right corner, I was super excited to use this bear face as these animals were a brilliant inclusion in the Legendary Collection! I layered in some stars and cut-apart pieces, then some Nuvo, enamel dots, and ink splatter.

For this bottom right area of the grid, I did a bit of layering along with another bear ephemera piece (because my son was in the Bears level of scouts). The outdoorsy theme of this collection is perfect for camping photos and scouts, which I needed! With three kids in scouts, this has been such a fun collection to scrap both my daughter and my sons’ photos!

My favorite part of the grid, however, is this center left section. I have wanted to get a compass and mountains onto a layout every since I first opened this collection! Such cool icons and together they make a brilliant cluster for a camping layout.

Beautiful | Midnight | Anita Bownds

Hi there crafty friends, Anita here sharing a layout for this months scraplift challenge where we pick a layout from the international cocoa vanilla studio scrapbook day challenges for my layout I chose Debra Beers layout from challenge 6 …
And my layout…
I started off with white cardstock and adding 4 strips from inspired and sophisticated down the right side I layered then just over lapping so I could machine stitch each strip. Then I matted my photo on papers from the 6×8 paper pad and tucked a doily into the layers.

 

Using the flowers from the ephemera, accessory stickers I layered them in 2 of the corners
And added my chipboard title that I painted pink and flicked white paint over it. I add it to the bottom of my photo.

 

Then using the clear stickers I added hearts ,leaves and flowers tucked and around the main floral pieces and finished it off with a few pearl drops.

Little adventurer | Legendary Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. We continue our fun game of scraplifting YOUR projects by CVS DT. We are picking one page, that was sumbitted by our fans during weekend online crop we had for iNSD, and simply use it as an inspiration. I love white backgrounds and some mixed media layers so my attention was drawn to this fantastic, quite monochromatic page by Katie Scott:

I also started with white background and five paint strokes. I was going to use “Legendary” collection so I was looking for a shade of blue color matching this line. Pictures I chose are more colorful so I didn’t narrowed my color palette to only one shade.

While making this page I used only few paper scraps, but even though they are visible only in pieces, they add this small splash of color to the whole layout. I used: “One way“, “Total legend” and “Wild one” patterns.

Even though I am a mom of two girls, I am still able to use this line with my girl’s photos. It’s very versatile and can be used with all “outdoor plays” pictures, like climbing the tree. To make it a little more “cute” I used animal silhouettes around the photo. Some of them are from Ephemera pack but brown deer is fussy cut from “Epic tales” paper. Yellow fox is made of transparent sticker and a piece of yellow pattern paper.

To build my title I use a clever solution – I fussy cut the word ADVENTURE from paper “Epic tales” and some extra R from another sheet. Word LITTLE is made of letters cut out from few words from Die cut Titles. Thanks to that it’s a perfect match with the collection! All you need to do is to think outside the box sometimes :)

I finished my page with few scattered stars and white enamel dots. It was so fun and refreshing to scraplift layout of other scrapbooker. It’s always a perfect solution when your mojo is low.

Best | Boys Rule collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone! It’s Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a layout I created inspired by one of our fellow Cocoa Vanilla fans layouts!

All this week the design team are choosing a fellow Cocoa Vanilla fan’s layout to scraplift from the International Scrapbooking Day challenges. I chose Gayle Selman’s awesome layout from Anna’s monochromatic challenge below…

To replicate Gayle’s layout, I started out by adding some blue distress oxide ink to white cardstock. I then added some black splatters of mist. Once dry, I then got a few stamps with some black ink and stamped them just like Gayle did. I don’t do mixed media all that often so when I get the opportunity to add a little bit!

I then added some paper strips from the Boys Rule 6′ x 8′ paper pad and also punched some stars with a few star punches. Underneath my photo, I layered one of the chipboard frames and used craft foam to pop up my photo. My photo is of my boys goofing around for the camera!

I added a small cluster of embellishments in the top right corner including a chipboard phrase, a rubber charm, and some stars. My title is one of the chipboard titles, I added one of the flairs above the title and lastly I added some phrase and clear stickers.

I love how my layout turned out and I hope you think it does Gayle’s layout justice!

Happy Layout | Legendary | Rachel Lowe

Hey CVS friends today I have a fab boy layout to share using my fav paper from the Legendary collection, Wild One !

I have used a cut file from the Silhouette Design Store (Happy Rainbow). Once I had cut the rainbow I them added machine stitching to each rainbow piece (you could hand stitch this too), I loving adding texture to my layouts and sewing on your layout is a great way to do that.

I then used the reverse of the Wild One paper (yellow and left over after cutting the rainbow) and cut the Happy off set. I cut the actual letters in white cardstock. This is added under the rainbow which I attached with foam tape to create dimension.

I added phrase sentiments from the Accessory Sticker sheet that tied in with my theme and photo. I also added these with foam tape to add even more dimension. I LOVE the Clear Stickers especially the mixed media elements (It saves so much time and mess lol) and I have added a contrasting green and orange paint brush stroke clear sticker under the yellow title.

I next added my photo matting it on Off Beat paper (blue star side) and added with foam tape. I then tucked under Die Cut Ephemera elements. How cute is the geometric bear! I added some more clear stickers and Enamel Dots.

I finished off with a light splatter of black paint on the white cardstock. I love how this turned out and such a sweet photo of my boy and his pup documented!

Super Star | Legendary Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there! Danni here, back with another fun layout using Legendary. You know we all LOVE stars over here at Cocoa Vanilla and I have been eyeing off the large star die cuts from the die cut ephemera for quite a while now. For this layout I decided to go sequin-happy and make some shaker embellishments!

I took four of the large star die cuts with the negative space in the centres to make my shakers, they were just absolutely perfect for this. To make the shakers, I adhered a layer of vellum behind the die cut for the largest stars and acetate for the smaller ones (just for some variation, you could use either). I then added a layer of adhesive foam around the edge, filled the space inside with sequins and glued another layer of vellum behind to keep it all together. Ta da! Instant shaker embellishments.

Next I went to work on my background. I laid down some white gesso on the grey side of All Star patterned paper, then went in with a combination of distress oxide inks, watercolours, pearl watercolours and spray inks in several different shades of blue, using the packaging technique to create lots of messy inky goodness. To finish off the background I added a generous splattering of acrylic ink in a bright metallic silver.

To mat my photo I used Offbeat, Outdoors Type and Wild One patterned papers in several layers, using up some of my scraps from previous layouts. I can’t stand to waste a single of piece of the gorgeous paper in this collection! I positioned my photo in the centre of my mixed media background and arranged the shaker stars around it, adding in lots of fussy cut stars from All Star patterned paper to fill in the gaps.

For my title I chose the words ‘Super Star’ from the die cut titles and machine stitched them onto the background, running it through back and forth several times with white thread for lots of texture. I added in some tiny stars from the clear stickers on top of my photo and in the centre of the large shakers for a bit of extra something!

Next I dug into the accessory stickers, choosing a label for the date and a couple of tiny word stickers at the bottom of my photo to help anchor it. I included a few lines of handwritten journaling to the right of my photo following the diagonal of my title, then added a sprinkle of enamel dots in three places to add the perfect finishing touch!

Super Star | Legendary Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi Cocoa Vanilla friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing another new layout featuring the awesome new Legendary collection!

I have been mixing up the size layout I have been working on lately and decided to create another 8.5′ x 11′ page today. I started by choosing to cut out the stars from the awesome exclusive FREE Legendary cut files, designed by Gwen. I cut these out from white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo.
I chose the gorgeous rainbow paper called ‘Wild One‘ to back all the stars with. Once the stars were all backed, I added craft foam to the underside of the stars, I then arranged them vertically and adhered them to a white cardstock background that was trimmed down slightly smaller than 8.5′ x 11’. I chose to cut the ‘One Way‘ paper to be the mat behind the white cardstock. I then machined stitched around the edge of the white cardstock as you can see in some of the detailed photos.
I matted my photo (which is of my youngest son when he was about 3) to the B side of the ‘Wild One‘ paper. I then adhered it over the top of the stars so that it became the main feature of my page. I added one of the accessory sticker sheet banner stickers to the too right corner of the photo and also overlapped the title onto my photo also. The title is made up of those awesome font die cut cardstock titles, these are so super fun!
I added the rainbow star strip from the ‘Epic Tales‘ paper to the top of my layout and I finished off by adding a few more stars in clear stickers, diecuts and the flair badge too, the date stamp almost always makes it onto my pages too, so I stamped the date the photo was taken!
