Love Our Story | Storyteller | Kellie Moore

Hello everyone and welcome back to the CVS blog.

Today I’m sharing a page using the new ‘Storyteller’ collection with a focus on florals.

I decided I wanted to divide my page into thirds, using blue, yellow and red as the focus for each section. To start my page, I used a strip of white cardstock to stamp florals using my distress oxides..the red is Candied Apple, the blue is Faded Jeans and the yellow is Fossilized Amber.

I chose 3 of our wedding photos and printed them in black and white so they didnt compete with my colours. I wanted to have something to pop out from behind my photos, so I used some gauze that I coloured with the same inks…this adds a nice texture to the page.

Next, I went through all the embellishments..the ephemera pack, the chipboard, accessory stickers, wooden buttons and puffy hearts and pulled out all the colours that matched and icons that would work…making sure I used florals in each cluster.

While going through my collection I also found a yellow and blue stitched heart from previous page so I included these as well..

For my title, I used the Foam Title Stickers, placing one word on each line of the page… including some of the black foam hearts…perfect for a wedding page right?!

Good morning CVS fans, Kellie back on the blog today to share some more inspiration with you!

For todays project, I decided I wanted to use a cut file to showcase lots of the patterned paper in the gorgeous Storyteller collection. I wanted to record these two pics of me and my baby girl Penny (she is totally my girl in a house full of boys!). Here is my page…

I had this cutfile sitting in my craft room for quite some time, I ‘think’ it could be Paige Evans?! Anyhow I decided I wanted to create a ‘pretty’ page as I do scrap a lot of pics of my boys! How gorgeous are all these papers ?! I started with a blank piece of cardstock, added on some distress oxide and gold splatters.

Cutfiles are a great way to incorporate lots of different patterned paper if that is something you are wanting to achieve. The cutfile came as one piece but I decided to cut it in half and place it on each side of the page so my photos stayed central on the page and it draws your eyes in to the photos.

Next I backed my photos in 2 different patterned papers from the A5 paper stack and got embellishing around my photos. As you can see, I used a mix of just about everything….ephemera, pieces from the Accessory Sticker Sheet and chipboard.

I also thought it would be fun to use some of the wooden buttons to serve as centres for my flowers…

For my title, I used the word ‘Together’ from the foam title stickers, then popped some of the word phrases under it from the Accessory Sticker Sheet. Because the title is black, I also wanted to add some of the hearts from the tile pack to balance out the design.

Sweet Heart | Storyteller Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, Melissa here and today I have another layout that I created with the gorgeous new Storyteller collection!!  For this layout I really felt like hand stitching so I selected several of the Pocket Cards to stitch over the printed design.  My photos are from Brielle’s 8th birthday in April of this year.

Whenever I use several of the pocket cards I go with a grid design to feature as many cards as possible.  For this layout I chose two cards that were patterned paper to house the photos, and the other four cards feature beautiful design elements that could be further embellished. I used Little Love for my background because I love the beautiful yellow and subtle pattern – perfect for featuring all of the cards. The “Love This” card was calling out for me to hand stitch around it.  I pierced holes around the edge of the words, and then stitched with the full 6 threads of the skein. Simple yet effective.

For the card with lots of adorable hearts, I stitched around the edge of each heart with 3 threads of the skein.  This resulted in a thinner stitches (due to less thread), and I think was more appropriate to the smaller design.

For the card housing my journaling I stitched around the speech bubble in navy blue thread to match the colour on the card.  I love how the stitching looks, and I embellished with a Die Cut Ephemera phrase and a butterfly.

For my title I used two of the Foam Title Stickers and for my embellishment I used several Chipboard Sticker buttons, Die Cut Ephemera Butterflies, and Puffy Heart Stickers.  I love how this finished my layout and I even surprised myself by not adding any mixed media, not even splatters!!

So Sweet | Storyteller | Kellie Moore

Welcome back to the blog Cocoa Vanilla fans!

Today I am sharing my second page using the new ‘Storyteller’ collection and these colours are my jam! I find them so easy to use and the whole collection can be used to cover so many different subjects…the choices are endless!

For my page today I started with wanting to make a statement background that featured many of the patterned papers, so out came the A5 paper stack. I chose a few different patterns and decided that I really wanted to bring in more of the red so I pulled a piece of red cardstock from my stash to add into the mix and went crazy cutting out 1 inch squares.

I decided to make a big star with the squares so I used a piece of cardstock to cut a star then stuck down all of the squares onto the star, trimming off all of the excess paper. I then decided to add some more texture to my page by adding some hand stitching to some of the squares…love me some texture!

Next I wanted to add some paper layers behind my photo so I HAD to use the woodgrain paper that matches so well with the hat my little boy is wearing in the photo….and I also added a paper doily to give some separation between my star and my photo.

Now that the base of my page was done, it was time to get some embellishments down, and of course I needed some of the gorgeous florals, so I used a mix of the florals from the floral ephemera pack and some that I had cut out from the ‘Spring Fling’ paper. I positioned them to the top left and bottom right of my page to draw the eye down through my photo.

Next, to complete these clusters, I added some of the butterflies from the ephemera pack and some of the gorgeous ‘wooden buttons’ ….LOVE!

Now, I just need to add my title so the words ‘So Sweet’ from the foam title stickers were just too perfect not to use… so I placed it below my picture and my page was complete!

Awesome | No Limits Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hello CVS friends today I have another boy themed layout to share using the fab No Limits collection! I have used two cut files on this layout, star background and Awesome 3D title, both can be found in the Silhouette Design Store.

I used the latitude paper under the star cut file so you had a multitude of colours showing through. My white cardstock is cut at 11×11 inches and I used Spark paper for my border.

I used the grey side of the universal paper to cut the outline of the Awesome cut file. I then used nebula paper for the letters which I added with foam tape to give my layout dimension.

I chose two photos of my boy which I sized at 2.5 x 2.5 inches. As they are smaller photos I embellished on the photos to draw your eye to them, tucking elements under and over the photos. I have used a combination of die cut ephemera, wood epoxy buttons puffy stickers and chipboard.

Really the cut files do a lot of the work for you here! This layout is all about colour and dimension.

I love how this turned out and works so well with photos of a teenage boy!

Epic Adventure | No Limits Collection | Melissa Vining

Hi everyone, I’m so happy to be back sharing another layout created with the amazing No Limits collection.  My assignment today was to create a layout with either multiple or shaped photos. I decided to create with multiple photos so that I could feature three of the nested frames from the Chipboard Stickers.  My photos are from last weekend when my 8 year old daughter played her first netball game.

I used the Big Bang paper because I love the large star with all its rays.  I handstitched the outline of both stars in corresponding thread to make it stand out, and to add interest.

All of the three fames are chipboard, and I selected my photos intentionally to feature action photos in the smallest frames that were taken at a distance, and then printed small to fit the frames.  All three frames fit nested within each other.   This one is the largest and is polaroid style. I embellished on top of it with Accessory Stickers.

The next frame isn’t probably meant to be used as its more a separator between the two other frames.  But I though it was perfect, and I don’t like to waste product!  I embellished with a Chipboard banner.  This photo also shows my title which I easily created with two words from the Die Cut Titles, which I popped up on dimensional adhesive.

The smallest frame is also the thickest, and once again was perfect for an action photo. The “Be Yourself” is cut apart phrase from

I embellished with lots of chipboard stars, Wood Epoxy Buttons, Accessory Stickers and Puffy Stickers.  I love how all these elements look scattered amongst the frames, and radiating out from the star.

Always Be | No Limits Collection |Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey Scrappy Friends, its Michelle back here today with a new layout to share using our amazing No Limits Collection. Another layout documenting a fun moment that Leila was enjoying, using this wonderful collection thats great for kids of all kinds.

I designed the entire layout around the ‘Always be Your Awesome Self’ card which can be found on the UNIVERSAL cut apart paper. I wanted to use this as the main title for the layout and keep it in line with the photo and journalling card. I thought it was the perfect way to document Leila and her epic 1 person clothes horse cave/fort.

I started with the usual white cardstock background, a mix of complimentary colours and patterns in both 12×12 and A5 papers and a bunch of fussy cut stars from the NEBULA paper

I cut all the papers in to different size banner pieces, and sewed around the edges of some for a little extra detail. I adhered all the pieces to the background using different thicknesses of foam and tape for differing heights of dimension. The shadow effect this gives a layout really makes it come to life.

I added some of the gorgeous Woodgrain paper BIG BANG to the back of the photo to help it stand out amongst all the patterns and colour, and adhered to the top of all the layers using some foam tape

I roughly tore the edge off one of the layers, and used a border punch on the other so that there weren’t too many straight edges. I embellished this side using accessory and chipboard stickers plus a tiny hand cut star

To the right of the photo I added the journaling using another card from the UNIVERSAL cut apart paper. I added more cut apart pieces to the right of that, adhered using my tiny attacher.

I left the threads loose on all the pieces I sewed around to create texture, even though they’re small they still add overall design of the layout.

The fussy cut stars from the NEBULA paper were a last minute addition to the layout, and one I’m glad I added. The layout didn’t feel complete without them

And lastly I added a couple of puffy sticker dots to the star clusters and a splattering of black in to finish it all off.

You’re Awesome | No Limits Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello, its Melissa here and I’m thrilled to be sharing my first layout created with the gorgeous new ‘No Limits’ collection!! When my 12 year old daughter saw this collection she told me she loved it and I had to create a layout for her with it!  I was so happy to do this and decided to scrap her first day of school photo taken at the beginning of February of this year.

I decided to showcase some of the B sides of the patterned papers, and really wanted to create a rainbow.  My cut file is from Cricut Design Studio.  I selected suitable rainbow colours, which in the case of this collection created a boho rainbow.  The papers I used are ‘Spark’, ‘Latitude’, ‘Nebula’, ‘Stardust’, and ‘Eclipse’.

I used dimensional foam tape behind the thicker bows, and glued the thinner bows directly to the paper.  This provides some dimension and interest.

I used water colour paints applied with my brush after I adhered the bows in matching colours.  I tried to make this appear as random as possible, which is easier said than done!

I kept my embellishing very simple so as to not take away from the photo or the rainbow.  I used ‘Chipboard’, ‘Die Cut Ephemera’, ‘Puffy Stickers’, a ‘Wood Button’ and an ‘Accessory Sticker’.  My title is from the ‘Die Cut Titles’.

I love how this layout turned out!  No Limits should definitely not be limited to just masculine layouts, it works for feminine layouts, and I also think it would work for outdoor adventure pages.

So Awesome | No Limits collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am very excited to share with you my first layout featuring the awesome NEW No Limits collection!

This collection is just amazing and I absolutely LOVE that I can create boy layouts with it! You do not have to have boys though as the colours and so many of the elements can be used for any themed projects too!

I decided to create a 12′ x 12′ layout with a frame look. I gutted some of the middle of the yellow side of the Latitude paper to create the frame. I then machine stitched around the opening in black thread. I added craft foam underneath the frame and then adhered it to the Stardust paper. I like how this created a shadow and added some dimension to my layout. I took the teal coloured A5 paper from the A5 paper stack and cut a strip to fit vertically down the right side of my page. I knew that this was where I was going to place my photo and some of the detail so this paper helped to ground these elements to the background. Next I cut out the rainbow stripe strip of paper from the Universal paper and adhered it horizontally along the bottom of the layout – leaving about a 2 inch gap from the edge of the yellow frame. 

I added foam tape underneath the photo of my son and and layered one of the frames from the ephemera pack and also took one of the 3′ x 4′ cards and layered this slightly to the left of the photo. I also adhered one of the arrow die cuts here and added the You’re the Best chipboard from the chipboard pack. The Cool Kid sticker is from the Accessory sticker sheet and I placed that below the You’re The Best chipboard piece. My title is So Awesome and is made up of the awesome Die-Cut titles. I popped these up using foam tape as well. On top of the photo in the top right corner I stapled a banner sticker from the Accessory sticker sheet. Below the title, I added some more phrase stickers and the Born to be Awesome chipboard piece.

Whenever I create a layout, I always start off with the larger elements on my page like the photo, the papers and the title, I then add the smaller embellishments at the tale end of my project like puffy stickers, small die-cuts, wooden buttons and accessory stickers. Above the photo I added the chipboard banner piece that says Fun Fun and added some stars here is puffy and die-cut form. On the right of the photo, I added the tab sticker from the Accessory sticker sheet, in the bottom right corner of the photo, I added a puffy sticker star and a wooden button. At the beginning of the word ‘So’ I added another die-cut star and layered a puffy star over the top also.

Lastly I stamped the date stamp and my layout was complete.

Cards for Christmas | Joyful collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello and a very Merry Christmas to you all. It’s Michelle here today with a new festive crafty share using our beautiful Joyful Collection. I’ll keep this post short and sweet too, as I know you’re all probably out there enjoying the day with family.

I’ve been wanting to make some handmade cards for our immediate family at Christmas for years now, and this year I finally carved out some time to make some. The Joyful collection contains so many pretty elements that can easily be transformed into quick cards ready to pass along to loved ones near and far.

I made a couple different sizes of cards, the usual 4×6 size a 5×5 and a 6×6. All started with some white cardstock for the base of the card then a pattern paper background using the A5 paper stack. Smaller prints make the perfect background for smaller projects.

Each card has a different design while incorporating similar elements. Fussy cut florals from the ‘Tis the season‘ paper and some tiny gold puffy stars from the Puffy title stickers pack

A couple of them have accessory stickers, ephemera pieces and chipboard words

And each of them have machine stitching for a little extra detail

I cant quite pick a favourite out of the mix as all of them turned out so cute. I’m going to find it hard to figure out who gets what card, but I cant wait to give them out later today.
