End of school year | Bohemian dream Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. It’s Anna here with my newest page. My challenge for this post was to use pattered paper for the background of my layout. And I have to tell you – I went bold with this one. I not only used one paper, I mixed 5 or 6 patterns, creating very colorful and busy page with “Bohemian dream” collection.

I started with soft “Dreamer” paper as a base for all those squares cut out from the various “Bohemian dream” papers. You can easily use smaller paper pads to cut them, like I did here. This is a perfect way to use up paper scraps too. Each of my squares is 2 inches big. I didn’t add glue close to the edges so I could bend them a little, adding dimension to the page.

To mix things a little bit I arranged my squares in a diamond shape. I did the same with the photos. I was a little bit of a challenge because you need to print them much bigger to be able to cut them into diamond shape too. Unless, having them tilted doesn’t bother you. I picked four photos of my daughters documenting the end of this very weird and unique school year. They we snapped in my living room because all the school events vere cancelled due to the COVID infections. This school year needed a separate page to document it for sure.

I decorated each square without the photo adding title and bits and pieces from ephemera pack. I also used up few flair buttons and cardboard stickers. I used up most of my “Bohemian dream” embellishments already so playing with paper was a great solution for me to keep the page busy.

Even though this page is busy, I love how it turned out. Love the texture and I will definitelly come back to this kind of design. If you don’t feel comfortable with mixing so many patters, you can use only one or two “calmer” papers and add texture by bending and tearing the edges. It will add a lot of interest to the background and make your photos pop.

Best | Boys Rule collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone! It’s Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a layout I created inspired by one of our fellow Cocoa Vanilla fans layouts!

All this week the design team are choosing a fellow Cocoa Vanilla fan’s layout to scraplift from the International Scrapbooking Day challenges. I chose Gayle Selman’s awesome layout from Anna’s monochromatic challenge below…

To replicate Gayle’s layout, I started out by adding some blue distress oxide ink to white cardstock. I then added some black splatters of mist. Once dry, I then got a few stamps with some black ink and stamped them just like Gayle did. I don’t do mixed media all that often so when I get the opportunity to add a little bit!

I then added some paper strips from the Boys Rule 6′ x 8′ paper pad and also punched some stars with a few star punches. Underneath my photo, I layered one of the chipboard frames and used craft foam to pop up my photo. My photo is of my boys goofing around for the camera!

I added a small cluster of embellishments in the top right corner including a chipboard phrase, a rubber charm, and some stars. My title is one of the chipboard titles, I added one of the flairs above the title and lastly I added some phrase and clear stickers.

I love how my layout turned out and I hope you think it does Gayle’s layout justice!

Family memories | Midnight Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. It’s Anna here with my newest layout. This week we are focusing on die cut titles – awesome product for all the layout makers. You can find them in few recent collections such as “Legendary“, “Happiness” and “Midnight“. Other collections have words too, made as a foam stickers or chipboards. You can easily mix and match them on your page. Sets are perfect for title building and you can combine few words in longer phrases. I decided to use “Midnight” collection as I still have a lot of elements form it. I created five rows of words on my background making meaningful clusters that describe my photos.

I started my project with “All the things” pattern paper and arranged words in an order. It’s a really simple layout as I wanted die cut titles to shine. They are the main focus and they didn’t need much of embellishing.

I printed my photos in black and white version to better fit the overall mood of the page. Very deep navy color of the words looks almost like black and pink, monochromatic background is a good, neutral base for them.

I embellished areas around the pictures using leftover chipboard flowers but you can easily replace them with flowers from ephemera pack or the ones fussy cut from paper. I also added even more words in different size and font.

I finished my page by stitching through every row using white thread. I wasn’t planning doing that at first but the layout looked like it needed something more so I carefully step in with my sewing machine. It created extra layer of texture and I am happy I did it.

Last step was to add enamel dots. This collection didn’t have a matching set so I grabbed the ones from “Unforgettable” line.

CHERISH PRECIOUS MOMENTS | MORE THAN WORDS | LAURA ALBERTS

Hey y’all! I’m back with a fun and page-filling take on Tarrah’s awesome challenge in the International Scrapbook Day Event happening RIGHT NOW on Facebook! I hope you will join us for some fantastic inspiration and a few freebies too! In Tarrah’s challenge, we are encouraged to use multiple photos and a multiple font title, so I decided to push this challenge to the max! Using 5 photos and a 6 word title, then filling the whole rest of the page, collage-style. It was so much fun to fill every nook and cranny of this page, let me tell you! Seriously, satisfying!

These photos are of my oldest daughter’s experience homeschooling and I really wanted to include as many as possible for this layout. The best way that I know how to make photos like these pop on the page is to let the bold colors shine in the photos and focus on softer colors in the background. That meant the stunning More Than Words collection would be perfect for this one! These sweet florals and soft pastels made a lovely backdrop and accent.

My favorite part of piecing together this fabulous layout was the title. Using a mix of chipboard, ephemera, and stickers to make an elaborate title was a technique that’s new to me, but that I really enjoyed! My sweet girl is an over-the-top, exuberant personality, so it just seemed fitting that the title of this layout be dramatic and divine, just like her. I often try to incorporate the feeling of the moment or the personality of the photo’s subjects into the design of my layouts. It’s a fun way to make each layout feel like an experience, rather than just a documentation of memories!

Good life | Wild at heart Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. I am always anxious to see and use new lines beautifully designed by Zoe but after making few projects with them I start missing some older goodies. I like revisiting and rediscovering them again and again. This time I decided come back to “Wild at heart” line. You can still purchase some papers and embellishments from this collection to supplement your stash. I was running out of untouched neutral papers so I reached for wooden pattern from “You rock” collection.

I started with making 6 simple pockets out of papers with 3*4 cards. I even found a piece of vellum. I used sewing machine to mount the pockets to the base. They are not glued so you can still put elements inside them, including hidden journaling.

I used a selfie of myself but the whole page is about how my life looks when I am 36 hears old and how I was imagining it will look like when I was much younger. I tried to sum up if the expectations and plans I had 15 years ago and make some sort of check list. To be honest I was thinking my life will be different now but it’s still awesome. I live good and happy life and I am gratefull for that.

I decorated each pocket with ephemera pieces and some chipboard stickers leftovers. I also added butterflies fussy cut from one of the patterned papers. Title was made with foam stickers that were included into the “Unforgettable” collection.

Grid design is so fun to work with and I love coming back to it over and over again. And you? Do you like revisiting older lines are you work with them till the last piece and then you move to newer ones? Maybe you put leftovers to one bag and use the mix of collections to supplement other lines? I bet I sould still make at least one page with the very first CVS collections :D I am a hoarder for sure. Maybe it’s time to move back in time even more :)

Sweet | More Than Words collection | Anna Blades

Hi friends! Anna here today with a new layout! One of the things I like the most about spring are the cherry blossoms. I love all these tiny pink flowers. And I was inspired by them to make this page featuring the pretty More than words collection.

I chose the B side from the Effervescent paper for my background. This gray chevron is just perfect. I trimmed half an inch from each side of the paper and backed the layout with a gray card-stock. Then I stitched all around the page with my sewing machine.

To make the layered flowers I cut the Darling Buds paper with my Silhouette Cameo. They’re a Paige Evan’s design. Once I had all the layers, I raised the tips of the petals to give them more dimension, glued all the layers and put a white enamel in the middle of each flower.

All around the flowers, I placed some leaves that I diecut out of white card stock and vellum. I love how they look peeking from behind the flowers.

Behind the photo I put tissue paper with white polka dots. You can hardly see it, but I think it’s a nice delicate touch. I also added a doily and a label behind the photo.

On the right side of the picture I stacked two stickers from the sticker sheet, because the colors and the sentiment were perfect for the page.

Like I did on my previous layout, I used one of the chipboard words for my title, but this time I chose it in black with the black outlined heart. Instead of journaling, I added two typewritten phrases from the sticker sheet with two heart shaped enamel dots on each side, and stitched them with my sewing machine.

The final touch was an adorable chipboard heart with tiny polka dots and a soft pink enamel dot on the upper left side of the photo.

I really hope you like it and inspires you to create a floral layout, which is always a winner.

Sweet Moments | More Than Words Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi friends,

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a layout for Throwback Thursday. I decided to go back and pull out the gorgeous More Than Words collection for my Throwback Thursday project. I decided to cut a scallop design cut file that is from Cut To You first and backed some of the open spaces with some of the gorgeous papers from the collection.

I chose the Noteworthy paper as my background paper and arranged all the scallop pieces on the background how I liked them. I chose to document a lovely photo of my Mum and my son together at my Nan’s 90th birthday at the end of last year. I added one of the cardstock frames behind my photo and popped it up with foam tape to raise it up off the page. I placed some embellishments around the photo, including the flair button, a few die-cut phrases, a chipboard heart and some enamel dots and shapes.

My title is made up of the chipboard ‘Moments’ word from the chipboard elements pack and also the word ‘Sweet’ from the black chipboard titles pack. I placed both of these on the left of my photo, I like how they look overlapping the scalloped papers underneath. I added some of the floral cluster die-cuts around the page also, I like how they add some more colour and another element to the page.

The most time consuming part of the layout was backing all the scallop pieces and getting them arranged. Once that was all done and I had them glued down, the rest of the layout came together quite quickly. I find backing cut files very therapeutic, a bit like fussy cutting….however I know its not everyone’s cup of tea lol! A few of the last bits I added were the small phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

Bedtime rituals | Mixed collections | Anna Komenda

Hello friends. It’s Anna here with my newest page made with CVS goodies. You all have seen the brand new line that will be appearing in the stores any time called “Legendary”. It’s another amazing, boy themed line, that came out from Zoe’s wonderful mind. I am still waiting for it, so I decided to dive into older collections. This time my creative process started with a picture, that I printed long ago but didn’t have mojo on how to scrapbook it. The important thing for this page is mentioning that my printer was dead for few days so I had to use photos that I already had on hand, so I was kind of “forced” to use this one. Don’t get me wrong – the picture is so cute and darling to me but the colors were hard to scrapbook as I always prefer more pastel shades and this one was edited with weird filter. it was a perfect opportunity to challenge myslef. I knew I am going to use some CVS collections, so I went through my stash and picked papers that may work for those colors and “baby bedtime” theme.

“Endless summer” line turned out to be just perfect when it comes to colors, especially the paper with cute clouds. It’s no longer available in the shop but you can purchase the digtal version of it and print your own paper. Stary paper “Star fall” from “Boys rule” collection was just perfect for a bedtime themed page. Thta it how thw whole idea came out.

After I fussy cut some clouds, I placed them around the background and added photo. I knew, I didn’t want to add too much to make a picture a main star of the project. I have a little box filled with elements from older CVS collections, all mixed up so I searched through it looking for matching elements. I didn’t care the line, I just wanted them to fit the theme. I picked many wooden stars from various collections including the very first boy themed line “Flying high”. I also added a cardboard frame and rubber tag that were a part of “Wild at heart” collection. My title was made with leftover alpha stickers.

It’s a very simple page and because the photo carries so many good memories, i wanted to add journaling too. however, I hate seeing my hadwriting on the pages, so I hid it. I cut out two tags in the same size from paper scraps and tided them with a string. The bottom tag has a little journaling on it, but it’s cover by the second one. This way I still get my memories recorded and a clean page :)

That is all for today. CVS collections are perfect used separatelly and together and working with them is a pure joy. I am a member of this team for 5!!! years and I still can’t get enough of them. thank you for stopping by and see you in two weeks.

My Heart | More Than Words collection | Tazhiana Gordon

Hello Cocoa Vanilla friends and welcome back to the blog! For my project today, I decided to do a Throwback Thursday inspired layout and play with some older collections that I haven’t played with in some time, namely the More Than Words collection and Wild At Heart. I’m really happy with this layout I created mixing the two lines even though they are so different in color palette and theme. 

Today, I am scrapbooking a photo of our little lady, Minerva, as she was taking a catnap on our bed. I started off by picking out pattered papers, which I almost never do, and layered the three papers over each other. I wanted to create a shadow box type of effect using my papers so I propped the floral paper up off the other two patterns using a ton of foam tape. I love ripped edges in my scrapbooking – I think it adds a ton of texture and dimension to the page and having the frayed edges on the papers added interest to the background and made it so much more fun.

After creating my background, I matted my photo of Minerva on some patterns from the cut apart sheet and ripped the edges on those papers as well to continue the distressed feel from the background papers. Once I completed this, I went to work on embellishing the layout. I literally had five die cuts left from the More Than Words pack so I added those first before pulling out the Wild At Heart pack and adding some elements from that one. I then pulled out my chipboard sheets to continue building and adding dimension and color to my layout.

Next, I went to work creating a cluster in the upper left half of my layout to balance out the one on the bottom right that held my photo. I did the same thing here, mixing cardstock stickers, die cuts and chipboard pieces to add height, dimension and color in the cluster. I love that large circle element and the phrase sentiment. After creating this cluster, I added my title, mixing a chipboard sentiment from the More Than Words chipboard title pack and some stickers from the Love Always line to create my title, My Heart, and called this layout good!

Happy Moments | Boys Rule & Midnight collections | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, and welcome 2020! I am so happy to be here with my first project of the new year for you. Today I am continuing on with our Holidays & Vacations theme, and sharing a layout I created using a combination of the ‘Boys Rule’ and ‘Midnight’ collections. I know what you are thinking – a bit of a strange mix of collections, right? Despite the very obvious differences between the two, they did work together surprisingly well and were a perfect compliment for the colours in my photo.

For my layout I decided to document a photo that was taken at the Cocoa Vanilla retreat that was held last May. Scrap retreats are definitely one of my favourite kinds of holidays – besides spending time with great friends, you get to enjoy a change of scenery, have a break from your everyday responsibilities, AND you get to create! What’s not to love about that?!

I started my layout with ‘Boys Rule’, with a sheet of Star Fall as my base,which I topped with piece of white cardstock, cut slightly smaller than the paper, to leave a narrow border around the edge. I then added four blocks of paper to my background using pieces of the Messed Up; Expressionist and Straight & Narrow papers. I distressed each of the blocks by scrunching and then flattening them back out; then ran them horizontally on my page to compliment the landscape orientation of my photo.

With my background complete, I then added some scrap cardboard to the back of my photo and decided on its placement on the page. I chose the beautiful floral print Bloom & Grow paper from the ‘Midnight’ collection to begin embellishing my layout, fussy cutting several pieces to tuck in around my photo to frame it.

With the flowers in place I then added the little banner that said the best from the ‘Boys Rule’ Chipboard Pieces pack, and a small black and white butterfly sticker from the ‘Midnight’ Accessory Stickers; placing both near my top floral cluster.

I created a small cluster below my photo by combining another fussy cut floral piece with a small leafy branch and heart, both from the ‘Midnight’ Die Cut Ephemera pack. In my cluster to the left of my photo, I also added the shine bright flair button from the ‘Midnight’ Flair Buttons set.

For my page title, I used the words happy and moments from the ‘Midnight’ Chipboard Pieces pack; and then I finished off my layout by typing up my journalling and applying it in strips (again tying into the horizontal theme) near the bottom of the page.
