YAY 6! | Make a Wish Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello and happy Thursday!!  Its Melissa here and I’m so excited to be here with you for a ‘Throw Back Thursday’ where we use an older collection!  I’ve been patiently waiting my turn for this, and I’ve always known that I’d create with the gorgeous Make a Wish collection, which reminds me of when I first fell in love with Cocoa Vanilla Studio.

I decided to make a birthday layout with the pieces of this collection that I have left, and if I’m honest have been hoarding! Brielle turned 6 during our Lockdown, and we still tried to make it a fun day for her.

For my layout I was inspired by this cut apart with beautiful paint stripes that I recreated on my background with watercolour paint.  I added several splatters too for extra interest, and because I couldn’t help myself!

I used a cut file around my photo to bridge the gap between the stunning floral patterned paper and the paint stripes.  I then embellished on the cut file.

I used the chipboard “YAY” for my title with a 6! from my letter and number sticker stash. I also added a little cluster on the bottom right of my page to provide balance.

I loved adding dimension to this page by using dimensional adhesive behind my floral clusters. I added sparkle with the shimmery hearts from a mixed embellishment pack and some glittery enamel dots, also from the collection.

Happy Times | Happiness Collection | Laura Alberts

 

Hey y’all! Laura back again and this time to spread some Happiness! When I saw these two photos, the first thing that popped in my mind was to make a quilt pattern. Inspired by my lovely grandma, I cut several of the papers from the 6×8 paper pad with a 1 inch hexagon punch and then puzzled the pieces together to create a quilted flower effect. Such a fun design and so easy to make!

Once I punched all of the hexagons, I cut out small 1 inch square papers to use as a base and then taped each individual hexagon piece into a simple flower design. It doesn’t really matter which piece starts in the center, I changed up each of mine a little bit from the others. It’s a lot of fun to play with quilted designs!

To add a bit of movement along the page, I added fussy cut butterflies all throughout the quilted flowers and even created little Nuvo gold trails behind them, this gives the appearance of movement! Plus, I added clear stickers underneath clusters and butterflies to give it the appearance of depth. This works because the butterflies’ wings are popped up just a bit.

Happy | Happiness Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there! Danni here with a soft and subtle mixed media layout using the stunningly pretty Happiness collection. I still adore all the bright happy colours in this collection and I had so much fun dipping back into it. The colours were a perfect match for the blue floral dress I am wearing in this photo.

I started with the lovely Sprinkles 12×12 patterned paper as a background because it already has that mixed media effect . I applied some iridescent gel medium in a diagonal across my page; this is a really fun medium to play with that adds a beautiful pearlescent finish. While it was still wet, I added some colour with distress oxide ink pads and sprays in a variety of blue and pink shades, using both a paintbrush for splattering and spraying directly onto the paper.

While that mixed media dried I took some butterfly die cuts I had lying around and traced them onto patterned papers, fussy cut those shapes out then glued them together along the centre of the butterfly body, leaving the rest of the shape free to add dimension.

I backed my photo with patterned paper as well as some white crepe paper ruffle along the sides for lots of lovely texture. I popped my photo right in the centre of my page and added the butterflies along that diagonal line of the mixed media. I filled in the gaps with the beautiful little butterflies fussy cut from Bright & Beautiful 12×12 patterned paper, bending them in the middle and only gluing down the centre to make it seem as if they are flying off the page!

I added a few florals and leaves from the die cut ephemera either side of my photo and a simple “happy” title from the die cut titles. I adore the script font of these, it is just so pretty! I went ahead and added several tiny word phrases and another butterfly from the accessory stickers and added a few lines of simple journaling on strips of white cardstock above my photo.

To finish off the layout I added a sprinkling of gold ink; you can never have too much sparkle in my opinion! There is a process video linked below if you would like to watch me talk through the process. Thank you so much for joining me today.

You Captured | Unforgettable Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello again!! It’s Melissa here and I’m back today sharing a layout focussing on using a patterned paper background using the gorgeous Unforgettable collection!  For this layout I made sure I selected a paper that wasn’t white based, because lets be honest – that would easy!!  I also didn’t gravitate toward a woodgrain, which also would be easy for me! In order to not overwhelm myself, and to really focus on the paper I chose a neutral photo (without a lot of colours) and I printed it large because I adore this photo of Brielle dressed up in her bother’s stormtrooper costume. The patterned paper I used for my background is called Lacewing, and it is the B side of the gorgeous butterfly paper. I added some small splatters of water activated sparkly gold mist for a little bit of interest, but most of it got covered up!!

I backed my photo with Forget Me Not and made two triangles with a scrap of Unscripted from the 6×8 Paper Stack. Of course I had to distress all the edges of the paper! I used some leaf and flower cut files (designed by Anita for International Scrapbooking Day) that were left over from my scraplift layout. It was very satisfying to use them up on this layout!

I created two main embellishment clusters and once smaller one.  I used lots of Die Cut Ephemera, the cut file flowers and leaves, and fussy cut butterflies from Lacewing.  I always give butterflies more dimension by glueing them in the centre and popping up their wings with dimensional adhesive.  Here’s a close up look at the butterflies on my top cluster.

 

For my small cluster I featured a Flair Button and another fussy cut butterfly. The “love this” flair button was perfect for my photo.

I also used the some of the Accessory Sticker phrases and a label which I lifted up on some craft foam for extra stability and dimension. I wrote my journaling on a  label that I cut from Story Teller.

Two of the Foam Title Stickers were perfect for my title, and I used three of the foam hearts as embellishment around my page too. White Enamel Dots were my final touch!

I hope I’ve encouraged you to try using a patterned paper for a background.  Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections have a wonderful mix of both bold and subtle patterns, and I find that the more subtle B sides work beautifully for backgrounds.

Beautiful | Bohemian Dream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone. Its Tarrah back with you today on the Cocoa Vanilla blog sharing a new layout featuring the gorgeous Bohemian Dream collection!

I am not normally a purple person when it comes to clothing or scrapping but when it comes to the Bohemian Dream collection, how can you go past that gorgeous purple?! The dress that my niece is wearing in this photo together with my Mum was the inspiration for my layout today. The colours in Amelia’s dress were the perfect match with the Bohemian Dream collection!

To start my page, I chose my background, which is the Dreamer paper and then started to build from the background up. I cut 2 strips of paper from the A and B sides of the Flower Child paper and placed them horizontally, I then trimmed the blue with white spots paper and cut it into a rectangle shape. Next I layered a paper doily underneath my photo, one of the journal cards from the Beautiful Mess paper and also layered one of the die-cut frames from the ephemera pack under the photo. The photo and frame have craft foam underneath them to add dimension to the page.

To embellish my layout, I took some of the florals, feathers and butterflies die-cuts from the ephemera pack and tucked them into various places around the page. On the left of my photo, I added one of the gorgeous flair buttons and the ‘Beautiful’ die-cut became my title for the page.

Bright Eyes | Mixed Collections | Danni Visser

Hi there! Danni here with a scraplift of Michelle Robertson’s gorgeous black and white layout for the International Scrapbooking Day monochromatic challenge. As soon as I saw this stunning layout, I knew I had to have a go at creating my own version!

I first went through all my Cocoa Vanilla collections and pulled out all the black and white elements I thought could work for this. I decided to flip Michelle’s layout horizontally to work better with my photo, and I reversed the order of the light/dark elements on the page by choosing a lighter background (Sophisticated floral 12×12 paper from Midnight collection)  and a darker main photo mat (Happy Go Lucky paper from Boys Rule collection). I added some soft layers with various monochrome papers from More Than Words collection as well.

I watered down some black acrylic paint and made lots of black paint splatters on my background paper before adding down my main photo mat. To echo the tissue paper strip on Michelle’s layout, I cut a strip of vellum, ruffled it up, added a strip of lace trim and ran it through my sewing machine with white thread.  I kept the thread tails long for added texture.

Next I took some fussy cut butterflies from More Than Words and added a layer of darker paper beneath with some foam squares to create layered butterfly embellishments. I also included some leaf die cuts, fussy cut elements, vellum ephemera and stickers from More Than Words and Unforgettable to create a cluster either side of my photo and at the top left of the page. I included a doily and some messy thread for more soft textural elements.

To help some of the elements stand out I used a white gel pen and a grey felt tip pen to outline and ink the edges of the paper layers. For a title I used the die cut titles from Midnight and some dark grey alpha stickers from my stash. To finish off I added a sprinkling of enamel dots from More Than Words and Unforgettable, choosing the grey and white tones.

Although this is a scraplift, I think they ended up looking quite different! I’m really pleased with the result and so happy I gave this a try. Have you had a go at scraplifting someone recently? Love You | Happiness Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura here, sharing a wedding layout using the beautiful Happiness Collection. I absolutely love this gorgeous patterned paper, Expressive, and had to use it for the background. It has such a beautiful mixed media design to it with little marks that appear hand-drawn, stunning! I decided to add a little bit of extra media via texture paste through a stencil to create a landing spot for my photo.  With just a few scraps of papers from the 6×8 paper pad along the left side of the photo helps create a defined foundation.

I tucked in several floral ephemera pieces on the left side of the photo along with a few butterflies that I fussy cut from the 6×8 paper pad for a bit of fun. A couple of flags from the sticker sheet on the corner of the cluster. The title is layered along the bottom corner, overlapping a journaling spot with a sweet message about my darling husband.

Starting at the bottom right corner, I created a kaleidoscope of butterflies fluttering off toward the top, left corner, a few overlapping the photo. With a little bit of Nuvo Glitter Drops to create butterfly trails, it gives the appearance of movement on the layout. A little bit of gold ink splatter finishes off the edges!

I hope you found some inspiration in this wedding layout! It was so much fun to fussy cut out all of these beautiful butterflies from the Bright & Beautiful patterned paper. I find if I just adhere the butterflies at the center and leave the wings free it gives a fun 3-D look without adding bulk. Below is the process video for this layout, enjoy!

Thankful for You | Happiness Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a sweet layout of my grandmother using the stunning Happiness Collection. I started with a cut file from Hip Kit and filled it with papers from the Happiness 6×8 paper pad, then added it to this gorgeous teal background on the Good Vibes patterned paper. Using floral swags from the ephemera pack on the left and bottom of the photo and adding a cut-a-part piece from the Little Things patterned paper to add my journaling.

The larger butterflies are fussy cut from a cut-a-part sheet and the smaller butterflies are all fussy cut from the Bright & Beautiful patterned paper. I love the simple elegance trenbolone these add to this layout, it’s amazing the mileage you can get from patterned paper if you’re willing to fussy cut out the beautiful icons! I thought these lovely butterflies were perfect for a memorial page honoring my grandmother’s amazing life.

To finish this layout off, I added clear heart stickers around the clusters and the arrows by the die-cut title. Then, a little flourish with Nuvo drops in gold and white, as well as gold splatter! I love the way the tiny details like butterfly trails give this layout such movement and interest.

You Are Special | Midnight Collection | Tarrah McLean

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am sharing a new layout for our Mother’s Day theme we have going on this week on the blog! I decided to document a special photo of my beautiful Mum and myself on Sydney Harbour when we went to the ballet a year ago. I pulled out the gorgeous Midnight collection to help me document this special memory.

I found a really lovely cut file designed by fellow team member Gwen from Cut To You, I cut it out from white cardstock and then backed the hearts at the top of the cut file with the pink side of the Shine Bright paper the Special word in the cut file, I backed with the ‘B’ side of the Inky Depths paper, I love that small soft floral side. Once it was all backed, I placed craft foam underneath both the hearts and the ‘Special’ word.

I chose the ‘B’ side of the Mixed Blessing paper for my background and also matted that piece with another sheet of the Inky Depths paper. I machine stitched around the entire edge to add some texture and interest. I placed the cut file title in the centre of the page and I cut a strip of the Bloom and Grow paper and placed it underneath the bottom of the cut file before I adhered it all down. I matted my photo in the orange part of the Shine Bright paper and added craft foam underneath the photo and mat, it fit perfectly just above the word ‘Special’ with one of the hearts from the cut file overlapping onto the photo also.

I tucked in one of the cute die-cut frames from the die-cut ephemera pack into the top of my photo, I then took one of the paint strip clear stickers and added it to white cardstock, I then fussy cut it out and tucked it into the right side of my photo. I also added one of the cute flair buttons here. The jar and flower chipboard piece fit perfectly there just above the ‘You’ in the cut file, I love how this looks here. I also tucked in one of the floral die-cuts to the left of the jar to bring in some more of the florals to the page. I also added a few chipboard hearts and also a clear sticker heart too. Lastly I added some of the accessory word and phrase stickers and the date stamp to finish off!

Good life | Wild at heart Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. I am always anxious to see and use new lines beautifully designed by Zoe but after making few projects with them I start missing some older goodies. I like revisiting and rediscovering them again and again. This time I decided come back to “Wild at heart” line. You can still purchase some papers and embellishments from this collection to supplement your stash. I was running out of untouched neutral papers so I reached for wooden pattern from “You rock” collection.

I started with making 6 simple pockets out of papers with 3*4 cards. I even found a piece of vellum. I used sewing machine to mount the pockets to the base. They are not glued so you can still put elements inside them, including hidden journaling.

I used a selfie of myself but the whole page is about how my life looks when I am 36 hears old and how I was imagining it will look like when I was much younger. I tried to sum up if the expectations and plans I had 15 years ago and make some sort of check list. To be honest I was thinking my life will be different now but it’s still awesome. I live good and happy life and I am gratefull for that.

I decorated each pocket with ephemera pieces and some chipboard stickers leftovers. I also added butterflies fussy cut from one of the patterned papers. Title was made with foam stickers that were included into the “Unforgettable” collection.

Grid design is so fun to work with and I love coming back to it over and over again. And you? Do you like revisiting older lines are you work with them till the last piece and then you move to newer ones? Maybe you put leftovers to one bag and use the mix of collections to supplement other lines? I bet I sould still make at least one page with the very first CVS collections :D I am a hoarder for sure. Maybe it’s time to move back in time even more :)
