Super Star | Legendary collection | Rachel Lowe

Hey crafty friends, here is WA my boy was meant to start school on Monday, but on Sunday we were forced into a five day hard lockdown. I was frustrated but he was elated! I am not a fan of back to school layouts so I tried to think outside of the square and come up with a back to school layout with a twist.

I have used the fab Legendary collection with its perfect colours and embellishments!

I have used a fab cut file from Cut to You, this is the second time I have used this back pack cut file, previously I created a girl version. The star confetti background cut file is by Paige Evans/Silhouette design store.

I used the off beat paper as my background paper. I cut my white cardstock paper down to 10×10 inches and then used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the stars. I back this piece with total legend paper to add contrast. I centred this on the off beat paper and added some blue messy machine stitching.

I cut the back pack cut file in black and then used one way and all star papers. I added it to my layout using foam tape. I next added my photo (which I added a text graphic from Pic Monkey), I used explorer paper to mat my photo which I finished off with a flair button

I used the accessory sticker sheet phrase stickers to create my journalling. I used a paint brush stroke clear sticker and finished off adding some enamel dots.

I added another sticker from the accessory sticker sheet so I could add a date space which if you have several odd children (like I do having four!!!!) is a must.

To finish off my page I added die cut stars from the die cut ephemera pack.

You Are My Sun, My Moon and All of My Stars | Boys Rule collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It’s Tarrah back with you on the Cocoa Vanilla blog and today I am sharing a new layout for an ‘Add Something Black’ feature this week!

I decided to add a black cut file design from CUT to YOU for my black feature and I dug into my big Boys Rule collection!!

I cut the design out from black cardstock and then backed all the different words in the cut file with the papers from the Boys Rule 6′ x 8′ paper pad. I then added foam adhesive underneath the entire cut file and adhered it to gorgeous blue background paper. I trimmed down this paper and matted the entire layout with black cardstock also.

I adhered the photo of my eldest son in the top right corner of the page, lifting up the cut file slightly to have the file sitting over the photo. I layered a tag, a tab and some paper under the photo and added one of the awesome chipboard stars over the top of the photo. Some of the other chipboard elements I added were the pennant that says, ‘The Best’ at the top, the arrow on the left of the page and the lightning bolt at the bottom.

Some star die-cuts were also added to help fill in other spaces, you can never go wrong with stars on a boy page right?! I also added the piece that says, ‘100% Boy’ under the word moon.

Some phrase stickers from the accessory sticker sheet were added as a final touch and I also stamped the date stamp of when the photo was taken. I really enjoyed working with a black cut file instead of my go to white for this layout. I love how the black makes the colours in the Boys Rule collection really pop!

Hello Boy | Legendary Collection | Anna Blades

Hey everyone! It’s Anna here, sharing this monochromatic layout with you today, featuring the Legendary collection. Two months ago my sister had a baby boy, and we are very happy because is the first boy in the family!! My parents have two girls (me and my little sister) and I also have two daughters. So, at last, we can say “hello boy!”. For this layout, I was inspired by the stars in the picture.

First, I used the distress oxide inks and the plastic technique to make my background in a watercolor 12×12 sheet. I did it with different shades of blue and also add some splatters. I wanted it to look like a sky.

I spread some stars diagonally, from top to bottom of the page. I took them from the Die Cut Ephemera, the Clear Stickers, and also fussy cut some stars from the All Star paper. I put foam dots behind a few stars to add more dimension. In between the stars, I also glued some enamel dots.

On top of the page, I stacked two strips from the Offbeat and Epic Tales papers. I cut the Offbeat paper a little bit crooked, and I used a stamp with white ink to simulate a machine stitching. It’s subtle but I think it gives an extra touch (and I didn’t feel like taking out the sewing machine).

For my title, I used two words from the Die Cut Titles which I raised with foam dots and a phrase from the Clear Stickers. I embellished it with a die cut star and a flair button that matched perfectly with the color and the stars. I don’t usually write journaling on my layouts, but this time I did it. Below it, I placed another die cut that says “legendary”.

With the All Star paper I matted my picture. Behind it, I put some tissue paper too and foam to raise it up. Two more die cuts and another one for layering, and that’s it!!

Once in a while I enjoy making a monochromatic layout, it’s kinda challenging for me. I hope you like it and thank you so much for stopping by today!

So Awesome | Legendary Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It’s Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a new layout featuring the awesome Legendary collection!

I have chosen to scrap a 8.5′ x 11′ size layout today, I have been on a bit of a kick with this size of late and the photo that I am documenting is of my 2 sons on a recent bush walk where they found a cave.

I trimmed a piece of plain white cardstock to 8.5′ x 11′ and then trimmed the Offbeat paper with the blue stars showing down to 8′ x 10.5′. I machine stitched the paper to the white cardstock and bent up the edges to create a textured look. I then trimmed a piece of the One Way paper, turned it over to show the orange side and cut a banner edge into the bottom. I love how this paper looks as a contrast on the blue star background paper.

I added craft foam underneath the orange paper and the other layers to create shadows and dimension, I adhered these all in the top left corner with my photo. I then added some of the awesome accessory stickers, clear stickers and die-cuts to embellish this main design element on my page.

For the bottom right cluster I had to add that gorgeous bear die-cut, he is popped up off the page with craft foam, I overlapped the Explore piece also and tucked in a few clear stickers here. The stars are clear stickers adhered to white cardstock and then fussy cut out with a foam dot placed under each of them. My title is made of those awesome cardstock die-cut titles with that super cool font!

Lastly I placed some enamel dots and stamped the date stamp to finish my page.

Best | Boys Rule collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone! It’s Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a layout I created inspired by one of our fellow Cocoa Vanilla fans layouts!

All this week the design team are choosing a fellow Cocoa Vanilla fan’s layout to scraplift from the International Scrapbooking Day challenges. I chose Gayle Selman’s awesome layout from Anna’s monochromatic challenge below…

To replicate Gayle’s layout, I started out by adding some blue distress oxide ink to white cardstock. I then added some black splatters of mist. Once dry, I then got a few stamps with some black ink and stamped them just like Gayle did. I don’t do mixed media all that often so when I get the opportunity to add a little bit!

I then added some paper strips from the Boys Rule 6′ x 8′ paper pad and also punched some stars with a few star punches. Underneath my photo, I layered one of the chipboard frames and used craft foam to pop up my photo. My photo is of my boys goofing around for the camera!

I added a small cluster of embellishments in the top right corner including a chipboard phrase, a rubber charm, and some stars. My title is one of the chipboard titles, I added one of the flairs above the title and lastly I added some phrase and clear stickers.

I love how my layout turned out and I hope you think it does Gayle’s layout justice!

Happy Layout | Legendary | Rachel Lowe

Hey CVS friends today I have a fab boy layout to share using my fav paper from the Legendary collection, Wild One !

I have used a cut file from the Silhouette Design Store (Happy Rainbow). Once I had cut the rainbow I them added machine stitching to each rainbow piece (you could hand stitch this too), I loving adding texture to my layouts and sewing on your layout is a great way to do that.

I then used the reverse of the Wild One paper (yellow and left over after cutting the rainbow) and cut the Happy off set. I cut the actual letters in white cardstock. This is added under the rainbow which I attached with foam tape to create dimension.

I added phrase sentiments from the Accessory Sticker sheet that tied in with my theme and photo. I also added these with foam tape to add even more dimension. I LOVE the Clear Stickers especially the mixed media elements (It saves so much time and mess lol) and I have added a contrasting green and orange paint brush stroke clear sticker under the yellow title.

I next added my photo matting it on Off Beat paper (blue star side) and added with foam tape. I then tucked under Die Cut Ephemera elements. How cute is the geometric bear! I added some more clear stickers and Enamel Dots.

I finished off with a light splatter of black paint on the white cardstock. I love how this turned out and such a sweet photo of my boy and his pup documented!

Rad Robot | Legendary collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here to share another design team project using the brand new ‘Legendary’ collection with you. Today I am sharing a 12×12″ layout I created to document some photos of one of my boys and the awesome Lego robot he made with his dad. Building Lego is one of the activities they really enjoy doing together and I love seeing what they come up with. I couldn’t resist snapping some shots of this robot, it was very impressive!

I began my layout with the reverse side of the Brave Heart paper which features a fabulous painty style pattern. I then stacked a variety of pieces taken from the Wild One; One Way; and Explorer papers to define the focal area of my page and form a mat for my photo. These were topped with the strip featuring black and white arrows that was cut from the Total Legend cut apart paper.

Once the papers were in place, I added some lines of black machine stitching to help define the horizontal structure of the stack and also add some extra visual interest. I also added a rough stitched border around the outer edge of the page to help connect the background with the foreground, before adding my photo on top of the paper stack.

Now it was time to turn up the fun factor by adding some embellishments. (I usually have trouble deciding which pieces to use when I receive a new collection, as there are always so many to choose from.)

I began to the left of my photo, creating a small cluster using the die cut geo bear and a star from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, as well as a few Enamel Dots.

To the right of my photo I created my title cluster using the round frame and another star from the ephemera pack; the word RAD from the Die Cut Titles; a few enamel dots; and some small alphabet stickers I had left from the Made of Awesome collection. For an little extra pop of colour I also added the orange paint splat from the Clear Sticker set.

I created a third small cluster (because – visual triangle and rule of threes!) above my photo using the tag and phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet; with the small die cut flag layered over the top. I brought further balance to my page (and my mind) by adding an extra die cut star below my photo, which completed my secondary visual triangle.

I also created a small cluster for my journalling at the top of the page to counteract the fact that my page was so “bottom heavy”. The label and the strip of stars both came from the Epic Tales cut apart paper. I then finished off my layout with some black stamping using texture and phrase stamps and a few well placed tiny staples.

Adventure | Legendary Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi Cocoa Vanilla friends,

It’s Tarrah McLean back with you today to share my second layout using the awesome Legendary collection! Having 2 sons and a hubby, I get so excited when the boy collections are released! It makes it so easy to create pages about the boys with all this amazing product!

As you can see I stuck with a sort of mono tone colour scheme for this layout, pulling out pieces that were blue, grey and black.

For this layout I chose one of the muted background papers to begin my page with and then I added the dark blue paper behind to lift it and act as a frame for the entire page. The photo I have chosen to document, is one of my youngest son when we last traveled 3 years ago, there are lots of exploring references in this collection so this was the perfect photo!  I matted my photo in one of the papers from the large 12′ x 12′ cut out sheet and adhered it flat the background in the centre, only adding adhesive to the centre and top and bottom of the under side of the photo. This allowed me tuck in those die-cut pieces either side of the photo with ease.

My title is one of the awesome cardstock titles and I added foam dots under this to pop it up at the bottom of my photo, I also layered one of the accessory phrase stickers over the top of the title. I absolutely adore that bear face die-cut so that had to make it on to this page! He looks super cute just above the title on the left overlapping on to my photo. Some more die-cuts were added including the mountains, the stars, hot air balloon, Limited Edition ticket, compass and Stay Wild banner at the top. Some of the stars are popped up using foam dots, I love how this creates shadows and height on my page.

Under the title I tucked in the round compass die cut and added a navy enamel dot to the centre, I also tucked in one of the tabs from the accessory sticker sheet and the large grey star here too. The ‘Epic’ clear sticker was also added here to enhance the adventure theme. I added a few more of the navy enamel dots around my page and also one of the gorgeous flair buttons. I chose the one with the mountains so that it could be layered over the mountain die-cut on the right. Lastly a few more accessory phrase stickers were added and some black mist splatters to finish off.

Epic Adventure | Legendary Collection | Rachel Lowe

Hi all, Rachel here! I am loving all the boy layouts on the blog currently, the new Legendary Collection is so fab that’s for sure! Here is my first layout featuring a photo of my three boys.

I used this wild bear cut file as the main element of my page, the Outdoors Type paper just so perfect with it’s two colour tones and map print. I added it to my base paper, Offbeat with foam tape. I had already worked out my title so added a clear sticker word (Adventure) and the Let’s Go flair.

My photo is 4×6 inches long as I wanted it to centre it above the bear but needed room to add another die cut ephemera word to complete my title. I used the clear sticker paint brush strokes to frame my photo, using several of the colour options. I also added a smaller green one over my title word Epic.

I added in a random manner die cut ephemera stars around the border and to add texture I added messy machine stitching.

I added some blue paint splotches clear stickers around the bears paws so it gave the illusion of water splashing as he is walking (well that’s the picture in my head lol!).

I finished off my layout using an Accessory Sticker so I could add the date later and a clear sticker arrow. This layout is easy and quick to put together, having a mixed media base paper and a large cut file really just leaved the finer details to add.

The Best | You Rock and more…… | Rachel Lowe

Hey there CVS friends! Well here is the boy themed layout as chosen by you earlier in the month. I have used a mix of  Boys Rule and You Rock collections.

I love grids and this is the basis of my design.

I used Boys Rule Messed Up paper as my background paper, who doesn’t love a paper where the mixed media is done for you! I then cut a 3×12 inch of Boys Rule Straight & Narrow paper and attached vertically to my base paper. I then hand punched different sized stars from Boys Rule Star Fall paper and arranged, slightly tucking some under the green paper and added some with foam tape slightly over the green paper. I added a row of stitching on the right side of the green strip to add texture.

I decided on a grid of three which allowed me one square for my photo and two to embellish. I started at the top creating an embellishment cluster, cutting a 3×3 inch square from Boys Rule Fun & Games paper. I added some random messy machine stitching and added a paper strip from the You Rock black cross paper. I then used the die cut ephemera from Boys Rule to embellish and finishing off with a flair from You Rock collection.

I next added my photo which is 2×2 inches, I used a die frame from the die cut pack and then matted onto Boys Rule Fun & Games denim square. I finished this off with some phrases from the Boys Rule Accessory Stickers and a flair from Made of Awesome collection.

I used another die cut frame for the Rubber tag Awesome. I used another phrase die cut and finished this off with enamel crosses from Made of Awesome collection, which I also added to the corners of my base page.

My title is created using Foam titles from Unforgettable collection (they don’t count as girl on this page lol!), they add such a wow factor in strong black with added height, a close second fav of mine, clear stickers being my absolute fav!

Of course you could add more photos, make your grid with 5 squares instead of three! I hope I lived up to the hype of creating a boy layout to inspire you. I can’t wait until the new boy collection Legendary arrives.
