Costa Brava | Sunkissed Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello everyone. It’s Anna here with another batch of jummy colors and fun images. All of that thanks to the amazig “Sunkissed” collection – tha brand new, summer line from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. You all know I can’t get enough of rainbows so I made another page with this theme. I always have some summer photos to scrapbook and this time I picked two taken during our vacation at Costa Brava in Spain.

I started with cloudy paper called “Just chillin” as my background. Next step was to cut out rainbow strips from “Bright side” sheet and glue them over the clouds using strips of foam tape. It’s quite clean and simple page with not so many elaborate layers and so easy to recreate.

I placed my two horizontal photos on the bottom of the rainbow with no extra layers of papers under them. I didn’t want to cover the rainbow and the page was already colorful enough. I only added some smaller tabs from Stickers Sheets. One of the new products, that appeared in “Sunkissed” collection is pack of flowers and leaves. You have so many colors and sizes to choose from and I added some of them over my rainbow, color on color.

Sun and clouds from Ephemera Pack matches my sky scenes perfectly. I glued them down using pieces of foam tape to add more dimension. I finished the layout by adding few enamel dots from some older collections, that I had in my stash. I love making mixed media pages but I am also a big fan of simle and clean layouts, that comes really quickly together and do not require any special skills and supplies. It’s so refreshing to just play with paper.

I decorated area around the photos with two woodies (my fav embellishment!!!) and a puffy sticker. I love combining different textures and materials of one page. And you? Are you a team “just paper” or “mixed media”? Or maybe you are like me, like to jump between those two. I noticed I tend to make plain paper pages when the collection is new to me and then move to mixed media ones when I am already running out of papers or embellishments and I need to be more creative to stretch my stash.

Fun in the Sun | Sunkissed Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hey Hey! It’s Michelle back here on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog with a new layout featuring our sweet NEW Sunkissed Collection. I’m still loving the bright fun colours of this collection, and yep those florals make another appearance

I created another mixed media background using some green and teal inks, smooshed together using my go to piece of bubble wrap plus a few extra splatters. I created vertically across the layout within the top 2/3. I used some of the cute heart paper ‘Feelin’ Fine’ as the main pattern paper, with hints of the blue version of ‘Fun in the Sun’ florals from the A5 paper stack. Both sections of pattern paper have machine stitching around the edges for a little extra detail.

The photo I’ve documented from 2019 is a cute moment when we visited the local rock pools. This was a time when Mario and Luigi came everywhere with Leila, but she didn’t have enough hands to carry everything while discovering creatures, so had left them safely sitting on a dry area on the rocks. I layered the photo backed with some papers from the A5 paper stack on top of the larger section of pink heart paper, then created a large floral cluster to the left using fussy cut florals from the ‘Growing Wild’ paper and floral ephemera pieces 

Love a good floral cluster, as most of you would guess from almost all of my layouts. OOH and how cute are the new puffy stickers that Zoe has added to this collection!!

And excitement PLUS that the Wood Buttons have made a comeback! I think I shared my excitement for them in a previous post too

I used the awesome new Gold Glitter words for the title, so many cool phrases to use within the pack too.

Over on the right I created a cluster of more florals, made a tag using the cute rainbow spot paper from the A5 paper stack and the matching journal card from the ephemera pack. I added the flip flops from the ephemera pack as we were at the beach and another of the cool puffy stickers. All pieces within both clusters either side of the layout were adhered using foam tape and glue dots for different heights of dimension.

Here’s another look at the final layout. I’m really impressed with myself for creating yet another layout with a mixed media background, even if it was just the simple plastic packaging technique.

Throwback Thursday | Paint your Dreams | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends, today is all about stash busting, yes its throwback Thursday. I recently invested some time in sorting out my older CVS collections, using three pizza boxes, one for 12×12 papers, one for paper scraps and the last one for embellishments. I have done this because I do not have enough left of a collection to create but adding them all together means I can be creative and mix and match collections.

Here is my throwback Thursday layout featuring a photo of my daughter. I went for an uplifting/inspirational layout for her. As you can see I have used a mix of collections here but they still coordinate so well together.  I used two cut files from the Silhouette design store, paint palette and title ‘paint your dreams’.

I used the script writing inspirational  paper as my base. I cut a 10×10 inch white cardstock strip and centred this on my base page. I next cut the paint palette and brush as this was the feature of my page. I found a wood grain paper in my CVS 12×12 paper box, once cut I added machine stitching to the edge. I backed it with a marble paper and to add a little something extra I added glitter to the paint blotches. I then added with foam tape off centre onto the white cardstock.

I then added my paint brush and added some small butterfly die cuts under the palette. I found a gorgeous die cut doily and used this to mat my photo. I used some phrase sentiments under my photo and finished off with a camera die cut.I added my title, I used some silver glitter paper for one word to stop it from looking too flat visually. I also added a light splash of black paint to add some contrast.

To finish off my page I added some beautiful die cut flowers and enamel dots. I added some more light splatters of black paint.

Most of these papers and embellishments are no longer in the store but you can recreate this layout with what you have in your CVS stash and don’t forget CVS have digital bundles of older collections too, just print and use.

Cheers to the Weekend | Sunkissed collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share a fun mixed media layout I created using the new ‘Sunkissed’ collection. For this page, I decided to document a photo of myself and my sister that was taken when we snuck off for a last minute weekend away late last year. Just us, peace and quiet, cocktails, snacks and lots of scrapping with ocean views. It was sorely needed after the forced cancellation of our annual retreat due to COVID, and pure bliss!

I started my page with the Just Chillin’ patterned paper, which features the sweet cloud print. Before I did anything else, I wanted to tone down the pattern in the centre of the page, where the focal area of my layout was going to be. I used white and yellow acrylic paint, which I applied lightly with a brayer, which softened the pattern enough, but not so much that you could still see through it. Once that as done, I turned my attention to creating some papery layers.

I started with a couple of papers from the A5 Paper Stack first – a yellow chevron, and a blue animal print. (These two papers are exclusive to the A5 Paper Stack, so cannot be found in the 12×12″ Collection Kit.) I chose the yellow and blue because the combination of these colours just screams “beach” to me. I tore both the papers and layered them, adding a strip of the pretty yellow floral from the Fun in the Sun paper on top. I then added a piece of the striped Good Vibrations paper, a small yellow doily, and some frayed gauze, before finishing the stack with my photo on top.

The next item I reached for was the Pocket Card pack. Pocket cards may not be something you would usually reach for when creating a traditional 12×12″ layout, but I love how versatile they are! I used one cut in half to add an extra layer in behind my papers; a card for my typed journalling; and a third card that I fussy cut my title from. My title was also popped up on some foam tape to give it some dimension.

To embellish my page I used several pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack including the small feeling fine banner; the tab and flag on the corner of my photo; a couple of clouds and the cute sun. I also used the gorgeous rainbow arrow from the Accessory Sticker sheet; a small Wood Button; some Clear Stickers; and a few cute Puffy Stickers.

I finished my page with some black ink splatters (and yes, some got on my photo! haha); and some stamped phrases using a roller stamp.

EASTER MORNING | SUNKISSED |GWEN WRUCK

Hey Creative Friends,

Gwen back on the blog today with some more inspiration using the brand new ‘Sunkissed’ collection. This collection is Summer themed but today I’m using it to create an Easter-themed layout. This photo was taken of my daughter quite a few years back on Easter morning.

To begin the page, I’ve created a frame for my background using the ‘Growing Wild’ pattern paper. I’ve used a piece of white card stock from my stash and then sewn around the edge with a pastel blue thread. I’ve also taken the time here to fussy cut out all of the floral elements from the inner part of the paper and will keep those for use in future layouts.

Next up, I’ve backed my cut file; this one is from CUT to YOU. I’m using the ‘Summer Lights’ pattern paper for the basket and ‘Good Vibrations’ for the eggs. I’ve also added in paper from the Paper Pad for the egg details as well as the photo mat. Be sure to check out the paper pad as it has some exclusive patterns in it which are not available in the 12 x 12 pattern paper sheets.

I’ve positioned my photo on the left of the layout and then created two floral clusters. The first cluster is quite small and sits above my photo, the second will be the main cluster and sits to the right of my photo. These two clusters are made up of the fussy cut florals from the ‘Growing Wild’ pattern paper as well as die-cut pieces from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera’ pack. I’ve also added elements from the ‘Puffy Stickers’ sheet.

I’ve positioned my title down the bottom of my page under my photo. For this, I’ve used Thickers from my stash. I really wanted to use the title stickers in the collection but nothing fit quite right simply because this is a Summer-themed collection which I’m using to make an Easter-themed page. Be sure to check out the ‘Foam Title Stickers’ in this line, they are super sparkly and gorgeous and you will definitely want them for documenting Summer.

For more interest on my page, I’ve added in two of the ‘Wood Buttons’ as well as elements from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’.

I’ve finished the layout off my adding in some of the small heart die cuts and a couple of die-cut tabs from the ‘Ephemera Die Cut’ pack.

Cairns Getaway | Sunkissed Collection | Danni Visser

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans! Today I want to talk about layouts with zero photos; these could be pages about a memory where you had no photos available, a page where you wanted to add extra journaling that wouldn’t fit on your photo layout, or like a I have here – a title page.

It can sometimes be difficult to fill up a page when you don’t have a photo taking up a large portion of the real estate. In this case I made it easier for myself by utilizing a smaller format page; this is A4 size, roughly in between 8.5×11” and 9×12”. If you find yourself struggling with a large 12×12” layout you could easily scrap a smaller size within a larger piece of cardstock. Another tip is to use large elements. I used two large cut files as a title and embellishment, which definitely helped fill up all that space.

This layout will be the introductory title page for a holiday album. We visited tropical North Queensland so I wanted it to be super bright and summery. The new Sunkissed collection fit the bill perfectly! I started with Good Vibrations 12×12 patterned paper as my background as I just could not resist those rainbow stripes!

I took the large floral cut file by COAPA Cutfiles and backed it with Summer Lights, Feelin’ Fine and Good Vibrations 12×12 patterned papers. The ‘CAIRNS’ cut file is one I made myself using a bold font in my design software. I wanted some different colours in this one, so I turned to the double sided 3×4 cards to back it with. These are so versatile!

Once I had those cut files backed and positioned, the rest of the layout came together easily. I added ‘Get Away’ from the glitter foam titles to finish out my title. I also took a few of the tiny word phrases from the accessory stickers and staggered them in the space below my title. I chose phrases that applied to our holiday so they double as brief journaling!

I wanted to enhance that large floral cut file so I took several of the die cuts from the floral ephemera and tucked them around the cut file. I also built a small floral cluster at the top of the page to help balance the layout, as well as adding some of the small florals popped up on dimensional foam. I love the extra shadow and dimension this gives.

For finishing touches I used a white gel pen to scribble a sketchy border around the edge of my layout, then added a splattering of white and metallic gold inks all around the page. Call Me Charlie | Sunkissed Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura back again with a large photo layout. This 5×7 inch photo of my darling child and her new nickname are an important story to share in her album and I think the Sunkissed collection was perfect to highlight it! I added a border to a piece of white cardstock and then weaved three strips of patterned paper vertically and horizontally to make a corner to place my photo.

I outlined each of the strips to give them a little extra pop and added a title along the right side of the photo with clear stickers to accent each of my clusters as well. A banner on the top left and top right of the layout gives it a fun feel. I even tucked a clear mixed media style sticker behind the journaling strips I cut from a journaling card.

This cluster of florals were fussy cut from the patterned paper and I layered it on top of a die cut rainbow with a word phrase sticker tucked alongside and two more on top! Little puffy hearts are spread all over the layout for my scattering bits! Nuvo drops and gold ink splatter finish off the white spaces!

These sweet days | Sunkissed Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello everyone. It’s Anna here with fresh from the oven layout made with “Sunkissed” collection. I already told you how in love I am with this line – all those juicy colors and fun, summer motiffs is a dream come true to me. Making pages with this collection is so easy and I feel temptated to keep adding things to my design, because there are so many different product to choose from.

I finally broke into the papers (well… sort of) and created full of circles summer page.

I mostly focused on paper stack, that this time has some extra patterns to offer comparing to reguar 12*12 papers, which is amazing and help you spread your options. I used a circle punch and punched 25 circles from various papers, adding few from “Sunny days”, “Fun in the sun”, “Feelin’ fine” and “Bright side” papers. I wanted this page to be as colorful as possible.

I started with white cardstock for my background. I splashed it with yellow mist to add more interest to it. Next step was to glue down the circles. Each has a layer of cardboard underneath for more dimension. I tried to create five even rows but was too lazy to measure everything. My eyeballing is all I could manage (blame my lazyness). Alignment is not perfect but you still can see some order.

I also printed four photos remembering about the circle shape I was going to add to them. I placed them over some of the circles and I was ready for the fun part of layout making – embellishing!

Title is something I always add to my pages and this time I didn’t have to think too much as “Sunkissed” collection comes with set of beautiful, golden glitter foam phrases! I just picked the one that describes my mood when I look at those photos. I divided it into two circles and I was done!

I pull out ephemera pack, puffy stickers, woodies and transparent stickers and I added little something to almost all the circles. I used 3D squares to mount those elements (you know I am a dimension freak). Photos I scrapbooked were taken on the beach during our last year summer vacation so every single element from epehemeras and stickers would be just a perfect match here.

I ended up with colorful, full of joy and possitive memories, page and I love how easy it is with “Sunkissed” line. Simple shapes, like circles, can be really powerful in making pages.

Get Away | Sunkissed Collection | Melissa Vining

Hello everyone!! Its Melissa here and I’m so excited to be back with another layout created with the stunning Sunkissed collection!! I really can’t get enough of this collection and I’m using it exclusively to scrap our January 2021 beach holiday at Riverton over summer (I’m creating a 12×12 album).  For this layout I decided to document the cute little beach house that we stayed in.

I decided to fussy cut almost a whole sheet of the gorgeous florals from the ‘Growing Wild’ patterned paper.  I honestly find fussy cutting relaxing and I love the look of layered florals.

For my background I used distress oxide inks in green and blue to complement the blue skies of ‘Just Chillin” and the green of the leaves.  I created the water colour effect by stamping the ink pad onto plastic, spritzing with water and then smooshing the plastic on to my card stock (the packaging technique).  I didn’t use any gesso, and I also allowed my paper to dry naturally so to reduce the warping.

In order to pull out more of the blues and greens I used a torn strip of ‘Good Vibrations’, and machine stitched both pieces of paper.  I then built my floral clusters around my two photos, and I love how it mimics the house that is located within bush.

 

Some of the flowers I placed over the photos, but most we tucked underneath.  I just kept adding flowers until I felt the layout was balanced.  I kept my embellishment very simple because the flowers and leaves did so much of the work for me. I just had to add the ‘Die Cut Ephemera’ sun, which I popped up on dimensional adhesive. I added some other die cuts too.

I used the banner ‘Our Vacation’, and even though its not a term we use in New Zealand I love it!  I also had to use the ‘Our Summer’ flag, with a ‘Puffy Sticker’ heart layered over it.

I used two of the gold glitter ‘Foam Title Stickers’ for my title, and as aways I had to add my handwritten journalling. My final touch was to add some black splatters.

Hey Hey! Its Michelle back here today with a new layout share. I’ve used the stunning new Sunkissed Collection and went a little crazy again with the fussy cut florals from the Growing Wild paper.

You will also notice that I added a touch of mixed media to the background of this layout, just like I’ve done with the last couple. You might be able to say that this clean scrapper has been slightly converted to the messy side. I went with the packaging technique using watered down ink sprays and some bubble wrap, giving the background a watercolour look. Then added a strip of Sunny Days across the middle to hide all the ugly parts and sewed it in place for a subtle hint of texture

The entire layout came together pretty quickly once all the elements were fussy cut, but I did notice towards the end that I was creating a layout design that is very similar to the last layout I shared. Whoops!

The photos I’ve documented are some of many taken at the last Cocoa Vanilla Studio Creative Escape Retreat. It’s hard to believe that this retreat was almost 2 years ago, but man we had a ripper time! This outdoor seating area was perfect for an afternoon beverage, even if it was just a Lemon Lime & Bitters.

I backed the larger photo with a piece of wood grain from the A5 Paper stack and the super pretty pink hearts paper Feelin’ Fine. There’s a tab from the ephemera pack tucked into the top, date label from the Fun in the Sun cut apart paper layered behind and a banner from the ephemera pack over the top. I added the smaller photo, backed with the A5 version of Feelin’ Fine, to the bottom left of the larger photo layered with the ‘welcome to paradise’ tag. This whole piece was raised off the background using a piece of foam sheet.

Next to create was the fun title to the right of the photo using a banner from the Fun in the Sun cut apart sheet and the word CHEERS from the gorgeous GOLD Glitter Foam Titles. Under this I’ve added more pieces from both sizes of the Fun in the Sun cut apart sheet and sewn through them to keep in place. There’s a phrase sticker above this from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

Above the title is the first of 3 floral clusters, this one made of multiple fussy cut floral pieces from the Growing Wild paper, a cute palm tree from the ephemera pack and a sweet little pink drink puffy sticker

Under the photo is the second large floral cluster using more fussy cut florals, some fun heart sunglasses from the puffy sticker sheet and another phrase sticker

Up at the top of the layout I kept the cluster very small using the same type of embellishments as the other two to tie it all together.

Here’s one final look at the entire layout. I’m super happy with the end result and glad I’ve  been able to document another memory from this wonderful week in paradise using this wonderful collection.
