Love This Kid | Legendary Collection | Danni Visser

Hi Scrappy friends!  Danni here, super excited to be sharing my first project as a member of the Design Team!  And what an incredible collection to get started with – the adventure-packed new LEGENDARY!  Of course, I had to start with a scrapbook layout featuring my gorgeous little man and those big beautiful eyes.

I was very inspired by the mandala-like pattern on the EXPLORER paper the second I saw it, so I decided to fussy-cut the design out and add some texture by hand-stitching with a chain-link stitch and white embroidery thread.  Stitching is one of my absolute favourite techniques to add yummy texture to a page!

 

 

I made sure to keep the rest of the EXPLORER paper to use as a border for my layout. I layered plain white cardstock on top with lots of messy blue ink splatters – I just love the contrast between the white and dark navy blue.  I popped up the fussy-cut mandala on adhesive foam for dimension before adhering it to the layout.

I used WILD ONE and EPIC TALES papers to mat my photo, then used a mixture of ephemera and accessory stickers to create a couple of small clusters around my photo.  I made sure to include a label from the accessory stickers for the date!

My title was easy with the amazing die cut titles included in the collection – ‘Love This Kid’ was just perfect for this special little person. For finishing touches I added some stars from the die cut ephemera and clear stickers, then sprinkled some of the gorgeous enamel dots around the layout.

I simply adore this new collection! Cocoa Vanilla have really knocked it out of the park with this one, don’t you agree?  If you would like to watch me put this page together, there is a process video below.  Thank you for joining me today!

Epic | Legendary collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share my latest design team project with you, and my very first using the brand new ‘Legendary’ collection. It’s no secret that I love creating boy pages, so to finally have this amazing collection in my hands was very exciting. This range is fabulous for scrapping boys of all ages, so to prove it I thought I would kick off with a layout I created of my hubby (who really is just an overgrown boy! hehe)

I knew immediately which photo I wanted to use – an awesome shot of my husband hanging off the side of a mountain that was taken by his best mate when they were climbing one day.

So I started my page with the gorgeous wood grain on the reverse side of the Outdoors Type paper, to tie in with the colour of the rock face. I then added a vertical strip of the mixed media style Offbeat paper; and a strip of the Explorer paper alongside it. (This provided me with a strong vertical base on which to mount my portrait oriented photo.)

I then began building a diagonal line of embellishments that would provide flow and help draw the viewer’s eye through the photo. Starting in the top left corner, I added a large star from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, which I topped with the die cut compass using foam tape. I also added a small star sticker from the Clear Sticker pack and a sprinkling of Enamel Dots.

I continued the diagonal line of embellishments to the right of my photo using a couple more die cut stars from the ephemera pack and a journal spot from the cut apart Epic Tales paper.

I added a large cluster of items under and around the bottom right corner of my photo, using the mountain scene and the woodgrain explore label (both from the cut apart paper) and the extreme label from the ephemera pack. I topped these pieces with the let’s go Flair Button; added the adventurous spirit phrase sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet; and another die cut star and more enamel dots.

Next, I created a vertical title to run down the left side of my photo, by fussy cutting the word EPIC from the cut apart paper; and adding an arrow from the ephemera pack amongst the middle of the letters. (I popped all of these elements up slightly from the page using foam tape to provide extra dimension.)

To finish off, I added some tiny splatters of black and white ink and I was done! I am super happy with how this layout turned out (and had so much fun I had to create another page with the range immediately, but you will have to wait for that one, sorry!)

Incredible adventure | Legendary | Anna Komenda

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans. It’s Anna here with fresh from the oven page. I got my stash of brand new “Legendary” collection and I knew I had to use it right away. You know I am a mom of two girls, big fan of flowers and pink, but Cocoa Vanilla masculine lines are always so colorful that I would want them anyway. “Legendary” line is also perfect for all your outdoor adventures and this it the way I decided to use it first. I am planning some mini album with my oldest, furry child, who is a good boy but I needed a warm up first.

I was very inspired by the paper with a map pattern “Outdoors type”. Because let’s be honest – what can be better as a background for travel page? The problem is that I love the B side too… Such a pretty wooden pattern. So I combined them both :) They look amazing with my photos taken in Tatry mountains during our first (me and hubby) trip as a couple. It was time before fancy cameras and I do not have many decent photos from that time. I managed to pick few when we were reaching a high peak using a cable car. Landscape from above looked amazing that day.

I picked some ephemera pieces that may fit the travel theme and gathered then under the photos. I also added a title using a word from “Die cut titles”. This is such an amazing product and it makes adding titles so easy. You can use words separately or build longer sentences.

I also have an idea for a very simple embellishment – add little wooden sticks to the flags included into ephemera pack and you will have some dimensional element to add to your projects. I placed my flags over the mountains silhouettes.

I finished my page adding date stamp, few stars and enamel dots. Did you noticed that they are back to the CVS products range? “Unforgettable” collection had them and this line also has matching ones. I love this product and I am so happy to see it back.

Cool Dude | Legendary Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends,

It’s Tarrah back with you and today I am excited to be sharing my first layout using the AWESOME Legendary collection!

As the mother of 2 boys and hubby, I am slightly outvoted in my house and love all the boy collections to document their antics with! The Legendary collection is absolutely perfect for their pages, on this page I have documented a photo of my handsome youngest son hanging out at the shops one day!One of my favourite papers from the collection is the rainbow one called ‘Wild One’, I love how it is in a diagonal design! I trimmed it down slightly and added it to the ‘Explorer’ paper, I like the navy as a mat for the page. I then cut out a diagonal triangle cut file design from The Cut Shoppe from white cardstock and placed it over the top of the paper. I love how the white breaks up some of the rainbow paper. I machine stitched around the outside edge of the layout.

The large stars in the ephemera pack have a line drawn on them so they were perfect to machine stitch, see the detail on 2 of the larger stars in the photo below. I matted my photo using the wood grain frame die-cut and one of the small cut out papers from the ‘Total Legend’ paper, I also stapled one of banner die-cuts to the top left corner of my photo. I adhered the largest star in the top left corner and the smaller one in the bottom right corner and then adhered my photo over the top.

The Die-Cut title pack are awesome and I love the font of these! I chose the words ‘Cool Dude’ for my title and popped it up with pop dots underneath and placed to the right of my photo. I took lots of the coloured stars from the die-cut pack and popped them up in rainbow fashion like the paper. I love the height and shadows this creates! I also added one of the awesome flair buttons with the star on it to the right of the ‘Cool’ word in my title. Lastly I added a few of the clear stickers, accessory stickers and enamel dots to finish my layout.

Bedtime rituals | Mixed collections | Anna Komenda

Hello friends. It’s Anna here with my newest page made with CVS goodies. You all have seen the brand new line that will be appearing in the stores any time called “Legendary”. It’s another amazing, boy themed line, that came out from Zoe’s wonderful mind. I am still waiting for it, so I decided to dive into older collections. This time my creative process started with a picture, that I printed long ago but didn’t have mojo on how to scrapbook it. The important thing for this page is mentioning that my printer was dead for few days so I had to use photos that I already had on hand, so I was kind of “forced” to use this one. Don’t get me wrong – the picture is so cute and darling to me but the colors were hard to scrapbook as I always prefer more pastel shades and this one was edited with weird filter. it was a perfect opportunity to challenge myslef. I knew I am going to use some CVS collections, so I went through my stash and picked papers that may work for those colors and “baby bedtime” theme.

“Endless summer” line turned out to be just perfect when it comes to colors, especially the paper with cute clouds. It’s no longer available in the shop but you can purchase the digtal version of it and print your own paper. Stary paper “Star fall” from “Boys rule” collection was just perfect for a bedtime themed page. Thta it how thw whole idea came out.

After I fussy cut some clouds, I placed them around the background and added photo. I knew, I didn’t want to add too much to make a picture a main star of the project. I have a little box filled with elements from older CVS collections, all mixed up so I searched through it looking for matching elements. I didn’t care the line, I just wanted them to fit the theme. I picked many wooden stars from various collections including the very first boy themed line “Flying high”. I also added a cardboard frame and rubber tag that were a part of “Wild at heart” collection. My title was made with leftover alpha stickers.

It’s a very simple page and because the photo carries so many good memories, i wanted to add journaling too. however, I hate seeing my hadwriting on the pages, so I hid it. I cut out two tags in the same size from paper scraps and tided them with a string. The bottom tag has a little journaling on it, but it’s cover by the second one. This way I still get my memories recorded and a clean page :)

Lovely | Unforgettable collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share a pretty page with you featuring the ‘Unforgettable’ collection. This layout was actually created for a class I taught at the December Workshop Wonders event at The Crafty Chain in Brisbane. I had great fun with the ladies in my class, and loved seeing all the different variations of this page as people put their own spin on it.

I used white cardstock as the base for this layout, then layered assorted size pieces of the Pretty Bits and Natural Beauty papers horizontally over the top. I love using these cut apart papers, as they are an easy and cost-effective way of adding a variety of patterns to the page. Some of the pieces were also distressed to add texture and dimension to the page.

Once all the background strips were in place I cut a large circle from the Lacewing paper, topping it with another piece from the Pretty Bits paper, before adding my photo on top. (This snapshot was taken at the Cocoa Vanilla retreat and features Zoe, myself and some of the girls from the team – it’s awesome to be able to be all together in person like this.) I used some scrap cardboard between the layers to add dimension, and also some messy cotton for texture.

To embellish my page I used a variety of pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, sticking with the neutral and warm tones of my chosen palette. (This also meant there were plenty of bits left over in the pack for participants to use in another project – it’s always nice to be able to take home extras from a class kit, don’t you think?)

For my page title, I used the word lovely from the ‘Bohemian Dream’ Chipboard Titles. Again, using only one word from the pack meant everyone had extras to take home – yay! I decided to leave the title plain white so it matched with my background, but I did encourage everyone in class to alter them if they wanted to, so some people chose to ink / stamp / paint theirs to suit their page.

To finish off, I added my handwritten journalling and then splattered a few coloured inks around the page – because I always love a little bit of mess! (Sorry for your table and window after everyone had finished this step Alison & Shelley!)

Hello | Unforgettable Layout | Anna Komenda

Hello Friends. It’s Anna here with my newest page made with pretty “Unforgettable” collection. This page is really unique for me and I will explain you why. Usually, when I make a layout, it takes me about 3 hours to finish it. I am a slow scrapbooker. I start with choosing proper papers going through all of my stash few times. Next step is finding out how many pictures I am going to use and how to arrange them. I am thinking about composition, title and whether I should use a cut file or not. I change my mind few times, swap papers, try different alignment. When all the decisions are done, it still takes me at least hour to pick all the embellishments and glue everything down. And this page came together within 10 minutes!!! Yes, it only took me that long (or short :).

It’s all thanks to the pretty paper with wreath called “Garland“. It determined the composition, the background, lack of cut file and placement of the photo. All I needed to do was to glue down the picture with a layer of “Unscripted” paper under it and start embellishing.

I didn’t want to cover all the pretty wreath so I only chose few flowers from ephemera pack and glued them around the photo. I also picked few smaller ones and mounted them around the wreath to add some dimension. Cute bow from “Bows and tassels” is a perfect match for the little girl on the photo. This page isn’t telling any story so my title doesn’t have any meaning. I used “hello” word from word title stickers.

Last step was adding few butterflies cut out from “Lacewing” paper. I have to be honest – I had a bunch of them cut out prior to making the page. I like to keep my hands busy while watching TV so I just fussy cut a whole sheet of them in advance. So it definitely shorten up the process of making a whole page. I finished making this layout with few enamel dots here and there and splashed everything with pink and blue mists.

I just love clever papers and this wreath pattern is definitely one of them. How long does it takes for you to finish a layout? What is your time record in making a page?

Back To School | You Rock Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi creative friends!

It’s Tarrah here with you and today I have a Back To School themed layout to share with you. I have used mostly the awesome ‘You Rock’ collection along with a few bits from ‘Made of Awesome’ and ‘Totally Rad’!

I started out by cutting the Back To School title cut file design from The Cut Shoppe using white cardstock, I then picked some papers from the You Rock, Made of Awesome, Totally Rad and Colour Me Happy collections and backed them all behind the letters in the title. I love how all the papers look behind the title. Once the letters were all backed, I adhered it to the ‘In Line’ paper from the You Rock collection. I added a photo each of my sons on their first day back to school last year. I was lucky with the design in that it was suited to 2 photos either side of the word ‘To. I added a variety of embellishments including accessory stickers, a rubber charm, wood veneers, wood buttons, a flair button, a die-cut and chipboard stickers from the various boy collections mentioned above. The wood buttons I added to the centres of the letter ‘C’ in the words ‘Back’ and ‘School’. The 100% Awesome sticker in the centre of the ‘O’ in ‘To’ I popped up with craft foam for some dimension. I just love the world globe die-cut from the Totally Rad collection, it was perfect for my school themed layout!

The star underneath the star flair button, I fussy cut out of one of the papers from the Made Of Awesome collection. I like how it it looks underneath the star flair which is also from the Made Of Awesome collection.  I just love the rubber charms from the You Rock collection, I added the one that says ‘So Much Fun’ to the top of the ‘B’ in the word ‘Back’. To finish, I added some of the phrase stickers from the ‘You Rock’ accessory sticker sheet to the middle of the ‘A’ in the word ‘Back’ and I also stamped the date stamp at the bottom of the ‘2 Cool’ sticker.

Best Friends | Happiness Collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! I hope this finds you well and that your year has been off to a great start. I am currently a little ragged around the edges being 5 weeks deep into school holidays but the finish line is in sight! Next week my daughter will be starting her first year of high school, and my sons are both going into grade two. With this big transition for my daughter right around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to document a photo of her and her friends that was taken at her primary school graduation last month. I paired it with the beautiful ‘Happiness’ collection, which was a great match for this group of gorgeous girls. (That’s my girl in the blue.)

For my layout, I began with the blue watercolour pattern on the B-side of the Good Vibes paper as my page base. Next, I took the oh-so-pretty So Fresh paper and fussy cut the beautiful wreath design from it. I then added some foam mounting tape to the back and positioned it on my page (without yet sticking it down).

I then matted my photo with the pink B-side of the Expressive paper before adhering it to the background sheet, then added the mounted wreath over the top. I bent the edges of the wreath up slightly from the page in some places to add extra dimension.

Above the photo, I added a small tab  and some leaves from the Die Cut Ephemera pack to create a small cluster. For my title I used the words best friends from the Die Cut Titles pack, highlighting it with the row of chevrons sticker from the Clear Sticker set. 

To help frame my photo and bring some extra balance to the page, I arranged a couple of phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet and the time to shine banner piece from the Die Cut Ephemera pack to create a visual triangle. I also added some extra leaves to the outer edges of the wreath by tucking in a few from the ephemera pack.

At this point I thought that my wreath felt a little “disconnected” from the background, so I drew some inspiration from my former team member Amanda, and doodled some extra leaves around the wreath using a fine white paint pen. I also added a little extra prettiness by using some tiny paper flowers from my stash, which I placed randomly around the wreath.

I finished up by creating another “visual triangle” – this time using butterflies fussy cut from the Bright & Beautiful paper. (You probably already know how much I LOVE butterflies!)

I am so happy with how this pretty page turned out, and am pleased to report it has already found a very special home. It was popped into a frame and gifted to one of the girls in the photo for her recent birthday.

Summer Memories | Unforgettable + Endless Summer collections | Mandy Melville

Hello everyone!

Mandy here with you today to share a layout for our ‘Holidays and Vacations’ theme, using a combination of the Unforgettable and Endless Summer collections. I documented a photo of my youngest daughter Eleanor with my niece Grace, taken when we took a family holiday together back in December. The kids had so much fun spending time with their cousins, and I just love this photo of the two girls ready to head off to the pool together.

I started with a sheet of white cardstock for my background, and then I adhered three different patterned papers, which I trimmed to 8 inches wide, down the middle of the page. I wanted papers that didn’t have very busy patterns on them, and I decided on using the pink and peach patterned papers from the Unforgettable 6×8 inch paper stack, as well as the 12×12 Natural Beauty woodgrain patterned paper.

Next I matted my photo with another paper from the 6×8 inch paper stack, and then I adhered it at the top of the page, using craft foam for extra dimension. I added a couple of stickers on the bottom right hand corner of the photo, from both the Endless Summer and Unforgettable accessory sticker sheets. The label sticker provided the perfect spot to add the photo details to the layout.

Next I layered together two of the Unforgettable floral die cuts underneath the photo, to make one longer floral cluster. The neutral woodgrain patterned paper underneath, helps these florals to really stand out.

I added my title at the bottom of the page using a die cut word from the Endless Summer collection as well as a clear sticker from Unforgettable. I love the combination of the two fonts! I also created a little cluster to the left of the title using a tag and a wood veneer piece from Endless Summer, as well as a little die cut flower from Unforgettable. Above the title I added a sticker with the perfect phrase for this layout… ‘oh I do like to be beside the seaside’, and I also added a scallop border sticker underneath the title.

To finish the layout off I added a few enamel dots in both the bottom left and top right corners.

Today is a bit of a sad post for me, as after three years on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio design team, I’ve had to make the difficult decision to step down this year due to increased work commitments. I’ve absolutely loved my time on this team, and being a part of this wonderful community, so I’m really sad to be leaving. But whilst I won’t be sharing my projects here on the blog anymore, when I get the time I’ll most definitely still be creating with the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla products, and I’ll continue to share my projects over on Instagram. So it’s kind of goodbye for now, but I’ll still be around! I want to say thank you to all of you for the support and encouragement that you’ve shown me over the year, to my fellow design team members for their friendship and for always inspiring me with their projects, and of course thank you to Zoe for giving me this amazing opportunity to be a part of her design team.
