Cousins & best friends | Daydream Collection | Anna Blades

Hi CVS friends! Anna here with you today, sharing a new layout with the gorgeous ‘Daydream’ collection. For this page, I chose to document a photo of my daughters with my sweet niece from this summer. These three girls always have a great time when they’re together. You just have to see their faces.

I started fussy cutting this beautiful floral wreath from the Daisy Days paper.  I have to say that I’m not a fussy cutting lover, but I wanted to give this wreath some dimension, so I raised it with foam and placed it on top of the B side of the Sweet Serenity paper. (I’m a B side lover)

As my title and focal point of my layout, I used this cut file from Cut to You. It’s just perfect for my photo. I backed it with papers from the 6×8 Paper Stack because they have a smaller scale and work better for this. All the colors match perfectly. I put it a little crooked on the left side of the page, so this way, I had the spot for my picture on the right side.

Instead of backing the hearts of the cut file too, I decided to place three of the puffy hearts on top of them. I love their texture. They are the cutest. I also raised them with foam dots. I’ve said it many times, but I think dimension is so important in layouts.

I layered my photo with some pieces of the 6×8 Paper Stack, attached a label from the Accessory stickers on it, and another one in the lower part that says “oh happy day”.

Around the wreath, I added some die cuts from the Die Cut Ephemera pack: flowers, butterflies, hearts, and a cute rainbow. This gives more dynamism to the page. I could use these flowers on every layout because they are just perfect for embellishing anything.

Finally, I feel that it needed something more, so I trimmed half an inch of two sides and framed the page with the B side of the Stepping Stones paper. This adds a touch of color and helps to enhance the page.

Family Days | Daydream Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello! It’s Michelle back here today with another layout share using the wonderful Daydream Collection. I’ve been itching to use the awesome rainbow paper – Over the Rainbow – since it was shared with us on release day. It’s a paper that’s been used and shared over and over again because its just so darn sweet! Here’s a closer look at what I made..

 

I started by hand stitching every second heart on the outer arch of the rainbow, one of which was different to the others but I ended up covering most of it with the floral cluster. I cut each individual arch off the original pattern paper, lightly distressed the edges, bent the sides up slightly and adhered each piece to a sheet of white cardstock.

 

 

Next I added the photo of my sweet little family using the woodgrain frame from the Ephemera kit. I added some foam tape to the edges of the back of the frame before adhering to the photo so it wasn’t sitting flat on top then adhered the whole piece to the layout using more foam for a little dimension.

 

 

I worked on the floral cluster after that using a fussy cut piece from the Garden Variety paper along with some extra florals found in the Ephemera pack and some sweet tiny butterflies from the 6×8 version of All Aflutter

 

 

I used cardstock title pieces plus a sticker to create the title, adding a puffy heart to the right

 

 

Then finished off the layout by creating a mini cluster of florals, hearts and butterflies with a banner and sequins in the bottom left corner. A little ‘pot of gold’ if you can call it that.

Let Me Take a Selfie | Daydream collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

Welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla blog! It’s Tarrah here with you to share a new design team layout for a ‘1 paper, 3 ways’ feature focusing on the beautiful ‘Sweet Serenity’ paper from the stunning new Daydream collection as the background.

I chose a pretty cut file design from CUT to YOU, cut it out from white cardstock and then backed all the spaces behind the cut file using a mix of the gorgeous patterned papers from the 6′ x 8′ paper stack. For the circle space in the camera design, I added my photo which is a selfie taken in my car some time ago! The large circle die-cut piece in the ephemera pack fitted perfectly around the photo here. Once the spaces were all backed, I added craft foam underneath the cut file and adhered it to the ‘Sweet Serenity’ paper. As the page is all about cameras and selfies, I decided to trim 2 small strips from the ‘Stepping Stones’ paper and adhered them vertically to both outer edges of the ‘Sweet Serenity’ paper to replicate a filmstrip look.

You can see the shadows in the detail photos that are created by adhering the cut file up on foam tape onto the page, I love how this looks. On the left of the cut file, you can see I created a small cluster of embellishments with a few die-cuts and a flair button. This helps to balance the large camera feature in the top right corner a little. I also added more florals and a few other die-cuts around the page to decorate.

Design tip: If you look closely at the design of my layout, you will see that I have incorporated the all important visual triangle on my layout. I knew that I wanted to back the small circle on the camera with the darker blue paper and I also included the same paper in the ‘Me’ of the cut file title. As that was just 2 places, I needed to add a third piece of the darker blue somewhere, the dark blue moth sticker from the Accessory sticker sheet was the perfect addition placed just above the ‘e’ in ‘Selfie’. Having a visual triangle on your layout draws the readers/viewers eyes around the page.

This Sweet Life | Day Dream | Rachel Lowe

Hi CVS friends Rachel here and I have a pretty layout to share using the beautiful new Day Dream collection.

Not being a mixed media girl I love papers that have done all the work for you! I love how beautiful the SWEET SERENITY paper and it gives you that water colour mixed effect to your layout.

I am scrapping a photo of my DD and have used a fab new cut file by Paige Evans available in the Silhouette Design store. Who doesn’t love an embroidery hoop!

I used DAISY DAYS and SUN SHOWER papers to paper piece the embroidery hoop cut file. I then used foam tape to adhere my photo.

I hand stitched the thread of the cut file to add texture and so it made the embroidery hoop appear more authentic.

I just had to add one of the PUFFY HEARTS because I love them!!! I decided on my title taking the SWEET and LIFE words from the DIE CUT TITLES.

Using the DIE CUT EPHEMERA pack I created two embellishment clusters, one to the right of my photo overlapping the embroidery hoop and the second at the top of the hoop. I layered die cut florals, phrase sentiments and moths, foam tapping some to add dimension.

I tucked a die cut rainbow behind the LIFE word and finished off adding some NUVO clear crystal jewel drops to create shadows on flower petals and leaves, and moths wings.

I really don’t think this layout would have so much visual interest if I used a white background and I certainly enjoyed working with a background paper that didn’t need a thing doing to it!

Together | Daydream collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone,
It’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. Today we are kicking off a new theme here on the blog simply called “1 paper, 3 ways”. Over the next few days three of our team members (myself included) will each share a layout that uses the same patterned paper as our page background. The purpose of this theme is to showcase different ways to use the same paper, and hopefully give you some inspiration to create a page of your own. The paper we were all tasked to use was the gorgeous mixed media style Sweet Serenity from the new ‘Daydream’ collection.
Here’s the layout I created, entitled “Together”…
For this page, I chose to document a recent photo of my daughter and I that was taken during a day at the beach. (And yes, it’s a selfie! I often find that if I don’t stop and take a selfie with my kids, I am rarely in any photos with them.)
So my layout began with the stunning Sweet Serenity paper, which I decided to add a little more subtle detail and texture to. I first used a criss-cross patterned stamp along with some grey ink to add some stamping; then used a scattered hearts stencil with modelling paste to add some small white hearts.
I then set it aside to dry while I began work on the papery portion of my page. First, I gathered some pieces of patterned paper to create a layered mat under my photo. The papers I used were All Aflutter; Up in the Clouds; and Happy Place and I used both vertical and horizontal pieces to help ground the photo to the page. I also added a grey paper doily from my stash.
Now it was time for some pretty embellishments! I have to admit, I am totally obsessed with the floral print Garden Variety paper from this collection. I love it so much I just want to fussy cut the flowers from it and stick them on every page I create. I cut a few pieces from it and tucked them in around my photo to help frame it.
My next goal was to extend out my embellishment clusters from the focal point to reach the two main mixed media areas on the page, as I didn’t want them to appear to be “floating” out on their own. I did this by using some cardstock leaves I had cut on my Silhouette with a cut file from Cut To You. This enabled me to ensure that all the stencilled areas on the page were connected to the focal point.
For my page title, I chose to use the word together from the Die Cut Titles pack, which I adhered along the bottom edge of my photo using some foam tape to pop it up a bit. On the top right corner of my photo I added the small happy days with you banner sticker from the Accessory Sticker sheet. To the right of my photo I added a sweet die cut rainbow from the Die Cut Ephemera pack, and then scattered a few hearts from the same pack.
I finished off my layout by adding a doodled pencil border, some soft grey ink splatters and a few stamped phrases.

Wonderful You | Daydream Collection | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here with you today sharing my latest layout using the gorgeous Daydream collection.

Here is the layout that I created:

The subject of this layout is my two boys; my husband and my little man Jack. In this picture Jack was a few years old. I rediscovered this photo in my photo stash prior to creating this layout and it brought back some beautiful memories. It is just crazy how quickly time flies. 

I have actually combined another Cocoa Vanilla Collection in today’s layout. I have used the ‘More than Words’ collection to embellish some of this page. The feature element on this page along with the photo of course is the cut file which is a file by Cut to You. 

I matted the photo in a pattern from the 6×8” Paper pad and also vellum from my stash to compliment the soft colours in this layout. I also added a small 4” doily to behind the photo. 

I backed the cut file with a variety of the patterned papers – I tried to stick to softer tones and soft prints in the files. I embellished with florals, stickers, and fussy cut moths. 
To embellish this page I also added one of the gorgeous fabric puffy hearts. I added this on top of the cut file. I love the pop of mustard this gave to the layout. The wonderful chipboard word that made up this title came from the ‘More than Words’ collection. It worked perfectly with this page. 

I added journaling to this page using my usual form; typewritten journaling adhered to the page in strips. I reflected on the relationship these two have…so beautiful. The layout was very top heavy and in particular to the top right – so I added a small little floral embellishment to the bottom left corner of the page.

HAPPY DAYS WITH YOU | DAYDREAM | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative friends, Gwen back on the blog today with a new share and today’s layout is featuring the stunning ‘Daydream’ collection. For today, I decided to have a play with the cut apart pattern paper in the collection called ‘Happy Place’. It’s fun to see just how many elements I can get out of one sheet of pattern paper!

To begin my page, I’ve created a background with the ‘Serenity’ pattern paper as my border and a plain white cardstock from my stash. I’ve then used the centre of the ‘Serenity’ paper to cut out some simple banner strips. I’ve done this with a cut file from CUT to YOU but you could also do this with a border punch or even just fussy cut out the design freehand with your scissors.

Next, I’ve cut the striped piece and the heart row from the ‘Happy Place’ pattern paper. I’ve layered these two pieces with the banner pieces to create my background. I’ve added them randomly, working bottom to top along the centre line of the page, adding stitching to the top of each banner piece as I go.

I’ve then also added in three of the smaller banner pieces from the cut apart sheet and added stitching to those too. These are normally used as journaling spots, but I’m using them here just as parts of my layers.

I’ve then positioned my photo. I think this design works particularly well with photos that are landscape as the banner pieces in the background draw the eye across the page. I have used foam tape for this as well, just for added dimension.

I’ve used the cut apart sheet again for the text element ‘Beautiful’ which is positioned above my photo. I’ve also fussy cut out three of the cute rainbows and added those above and below my photo running along the same lines as the banner pieces.

I’ve also added in here some stickers from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ as well as fussy cut out floral elements from the ‘Garden Variety’ pattern paper and butterflies from the ‘All a Flutter’ pattern paper.

Here you can see a close up of the stitched details. To finish the page off, I’ve added a few typed sentiments from the ‘Accessory Sticker sheet’ and a Flair button.

I’ve also created a YouTube process video for this layout which you can watch below – I hope it inspires you to get creating with this beautiful collection.

Good Times | Daydream Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura here again with a sleepy puppy layout using the aptly named Daydream collection! I went for a modified grid this time and used as many of the bits and pieces as I could on this one. I love the way it feels both full and balanced at the same time. I did a little bit of layering at the top and bottom of the grid to give it the appearance of depth, but those flair did the job for me! I love adding chunky pieces like flair and foam on my layouts, so when I decide to do a chunky layout, I go all out!

There’s also a bit of hidden journaling in this pocket on the right side of the layout to document our old dog’s decline at the time. I didn’t want to add that part of the story to the front of the layout, so by adding this little pocket, I can document his journey without making it the focus of the layout. I really wanted this layout to showcase his incredible talent of falling asleep anywhere, anytime.

These rainbows were one of my favorite parts of this collection, so I fussy cut a whole page of them to use as embellishments and they are slowly showing up on every one of my pages! I even found ways to tuck in sequins around my clusters to add a little bit of bling and really make this layout shine!

I hope the modified grid on this layout inspires you to look at your embellishments a little differently! It’s fun to see how you can change things up. If you’d like to see the Good Times layout come together, I have the entire process in the video below!

Be a Rainbow | Daydream Collection | Danni Visser

Hi there Cocoa Vanilla fans! Danni here, and today I am having some fun with the cut-apart elements in the Happy Place 12×12 patterned paper, which is part of the amazing new Daydream collection xx

Cut-apart sheets are one of my favourite products to work with, and as soon as this collection arrived on my doorstep I set to work with my scissors and cut this whole page up into it’s individual elements, ready for making a layout. I find it is much easier to get inspired when you already have all the pieces cut out and ready to use.

The sweet little woodgrain piece with the oval centre and flowers at the bottom was crying out to become a frame, so I carefully cut the oval from the centre, taking care to keep all the little flowers intact. A craft knife and cutting mat works best for this.

I chose this beautiful photo of my sweet baby girl to put behind the frame I created. The 3×4 inch size of these cut-apart elements makes them perfect to use with 3×4 photos, and this one fit perfectly. I arranged several of the other elements from Happy Place 12×12 patterned paper in a diagonal across my page – this is my favourite layout as it really helps to draw the eye across the page.

For my background I chose white mixed media weight cardstock and added a border using Stepping Stones 12×12 patterned paper for a pop of that beautiful rainbow stripe. I went ahead and added some soft mixed media to the background using some solid watercolour paints, making sure to place the colour where it could be seen peeking out from behind my cut-apart elements. Once this dried I placed all those elements back onto the page and adhered them down.

For embellishments I chose to keep things simple, adding a flair button, a puffy heart, a sunshine sticker from the accessory stickers and a sweet little die cut ephemera tab at the top of my photo. I pulled out a bunch of the teeny tiny heart die cut ephemera and accessory stickers, creating several clusters of these in varying colours around my diagonal design.

For finishing touches I added a few lines of journaling on a label at the bottom of the page, followed by three little clusters of white dimensional drops. This layout is quite simple and minimal, quick to make and looks so soft and pretty. I am so happy with how it turned out. I hope you were inspired to use your cut-apart patterned papers today! They are such a fun and easy way to make a layout that looks amazing.

Happy Days | Life Is Beautiful Digital | Anita Bownds

 Hi crafty friends, Anita here sharing a layout for throwback Thursday for my layout today I’ve chosen the life is beautiful digital collection all printed on paper specially for digital art … and then all fussy cut out..

I started of by printing out the paper and ephemera pieces and then fussy cutting it out it did take some time to cut out all those flowers but Netflix seems to make the time go quicker..lol
I adhered 2 strips of pattern paper with a scallop border at the top and bottom of the layout and started adding clusters of florals.

 

Then next I used my cameo and light pink cardstock to cut out a heart leaf wreath from @neatncraftycutz and adhered it in the Centre of my cardstock and then I matted my photo on pattern paper and adhered it in the middle of the heart and added a few bit of ephemera tucked in the top of the photo layouts.

 

Then I started layering more flowers on 2 sides of the photo building the cluster , I also used the cardstock titles from the day dream collection to add my title underneath my photo and I tucked a few more flowers and leaves around it.

 

Then I finished off the layout with a few butterflies and enamel dots.
