Happy Days | Daydream | Kylie Kingham

Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans! It’s Kylie back today on the blog with another layout featuring the beautiful ‘DAYDREAM’ collection. Going through my supplies I have found myself to have lots and lots of different paper off cuts, so for my layout today I really wanted to use up some of my scraps without diving into my full sized sheets.

I used some white cardstock for my main background, to which I have added some layered strips of paper vertically through the centre. The first layer was the ‘UP IN THE CLOUDS’ paper. I’ve used a lace border punch from my craft stash down each side for interest. It stands out so well over the top of the white background. From here I layered three extra strips of varying design. I didn’t focus on exact measurements for each and rather preferred to go by eye sight and what seemed to fit best.

My photo was printed to around a 3″x 4″ size in black and white. It was adhered to my layout using foam adhesive squares, enabling me to tuck embellishments underneath, building a nice dimension within the layout. I feel the black and white print of my photo helped it to really stand out amongst all the coloured blooms.

The title of my page was created using die cuts from the embellishment pack. It too was adhered with foam adhesive squares so that it looked like it was ‘floating’ above the background page. I made sure to spread out the clusters of embellishments on my page for an even balance, rather than to have everything grouped in the one spot.

You Are My Sun, My Moon | Legendary collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi crafty friends, 

It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a new boy themed scrapbook layout featuring my youngest son and the awesome Legendary collection. The inspiration for this layout definitely came from the awesome circle die cuts in the ephemera pack and the journal card from the Epic Tales paper that says My Sun, My Moon and All of My Stars. I knew that I had the perfect photo to go on this layout. It is of my youngest son sitting in front of a moon and star background at Luna Park.

I chose to pull similar colours from the journal card and use these throughout my layout, the orange, blue and grey colours really spoke to me for this page. I added some subtle grey mixed media to a sheet of plain white cardstock and then began to arrange the elements how I felt they looked best. The ephemera pack is amazing value with so many awesome pieces to help tell your story and enhance your design at the same time!

I fussy cut the journal card into a round shape to fit in with all the other elements on the layout. I also cut my photo into a circle and adhered one of the circle frames on top. Of course there had to be stars on this layout too so I pulled out a few large and small ones from the ephemera pack and arranged them amongst the circles.

Once I had most of the larger elements adhered to my page it was time to add some smaller embellishments like some accessory stickers, clear stickers and enamel dots! All of these smaller details were added in and around some of the larger elements on my layout to help draw your eye in.

Lastly I added some sprinkles of black mist and stamped the date. I then trimmed down the white cardstock and framed it using one of the grey patterned papers from the Legendary collection.

Awesome Kid | Boys Rule collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone, it’s Sue here to share my latest design team project with you. Today I am sharing my take on the “school” theme that we have been focusing on for the past few days. For my layout, I decided to document a photo of one of my boys with the academic award he received at the end of last year. This was the first time he had ever received an award like this, and it was a very big deal for him (and only came after a big attitude adjustment and a lot of hard work). I knew the ‘Boys Rule’ collection would be perfect to coordinate with the colours of my photo.

I began this layout with the printed backing sheet from the Large Die Cut and Backing Kit. I had already used the die cut top piece in a separate project, so I had this left over in my stash. I was drawn to use it because of the blackboard style print, with the doodled chalk border around the edge. As I only wanted to use the border part for my background, I cut the centre from the page and kept it aside for some fussy cutting later. I then got to work on some white cardstock that I had cut down to measure 10.5×10.5″.

I added colour to my background by swiping an ink pad to create vertical stripes on the page, then used a wide brush dipped in water to blend the ink out. I then used a stencil with a random spot pattern and grey ink to layer detail over the top.

For my paper layers, I used a combination that included the star print Happy Go Lucky; Expressionist; and a fabulous pop of green from the Straight & Narrow. I used torn edges and frayed gauze to add texture to the page.

When it came to embellishments, I used pieces (tag, label, frame) from the Die Cut Ephemera and Miscellany packs; as well as some stars that I fussy cut from the backing sheet I had begun my layout with.

I used an arrow from the Chipboard Pieces pack to help draw attention to my photo; and added a metallic touch by using some staples around the page. My title was a combination of the die cut word kid from the ephemera pack combined with awesome cut from the cut apart paper.

I used the Clear Stickers to scatter some phrases around the page, and three black crosses from the sheet too. I stamped a little extra detail on the background using a stamp with a random circles and dots pattern (similar to the stencil pattern) and finished off by stamping the date.

I am really happy with how this layout came together, and I hope I have given you some inspiration to create your own page to document some of those school photos, or even just a boy layout.

Super Star | Legendary collection | Rachel Lowe

Hey crafty friends, here is WA my boy was meant to start school on Monday, but on Sunday we were forced into a five day hard lockdown. I was frustrated but he was elated! I am not a fan of back to school layouts so I tried to think outside of the square and come up with a back to school layout with a twist.

I have used the fab Legendary collection with its perfect colours and embellishments!

I have used a fab cut file from Cut to You, this is the second time I have used this back pack cut file, previously I created a girl version. The star confetti background cut file is by Paige Evans/Silhouette design store.

I used the off beat paper as my background paper. I cut my white cardstock paper down to 10×10 inches and then used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the stars. I back this piece with total legend paper to add contrast. I centred this on the off beat paper and added some blue messy machine stitching.

I cut the back pack cut file in black and then used one way and all star papers. I added it to my layout using foam tape. I next added my photo (which I added a text graphic from Pic Monkey), I used explorer paper to mat my photo which I finished off with a flair button

I used the accessory sticker sheet phrase stickers to create my journalling. I used a paint brush stroke clear sticker and finished off adding some enamel dots.

I added another sticker from the accessory sticker sheet so I could add a date space which if you have several odd children (like I do having four!!!!) is a must.

To finish off my page I added die cut stars from the die cut ephemera pack.

You Got This | Wild at Heart collection | Sophie Delorme

 

Hello Crafty friends !

It’s Sophie on the blog today with a school themed project to share !

 

All I used on this page comes from the beautiful “Wild at Heart” collection.

I chose the last photo of Sabrina doing home school before the Christmas Holidays. Home schooling during this pandemic has been very hard on her but overall she managed it quite well, and I wanted to highlight that on my page.

That’s why I used this beautiful cut file “You Got This” from Paige Evans as my starting point.

I used thick white cardstock for my background and applied watercolor where I planned to put my big title. I went for blue and purple tones of watercolor to match the collection and to make sure that my title stands out.

I cut the cut file on white cardstock and carefully stitched it to my background once completely dry.

 

I cut a piece of the “Mariposa” patterned paper for the inner part of the “O” in the word “Got” and backed it with adhesive foam to add my subtitle “Just Be You”, cut out of the “Fussy Cuts” patterned paper.

 

I backed my photo with tissue paper, adhesive foam, the “Grow Wild” paper and a teared piece of the “Patchwork” paper, and placed it at an angle next to the title.

I grounded my page with two large teared strips of patterned papers: “Double Dot” and “Artisan” papers.

 

I embellished my page with beautiful fussy cut flowers out of the “Luscious” patterned papers and created floral clusters on the top and bottom of the page. I also added a few butterflies and wrote down my journaling on one of the paper strip.

I love the visual impact of this big title on the page. Isn’t the color scheme of the Wild at Heart collection seriously amazing ??!

Time to Shine | Happiness Collection | Back to School

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here today sharing with you a ‘Back to School’ themed layout. I decided to delve into one of my favourite CVS collections ‘Happiness’.

Here is the layout that I created: Time to Shine


I knew that I wanted to use this bright and fun collection to document the beginning of what we hope will be a great 2021 school year – for the kids at school and also for myself as a teacher. The school year of 2020 was a challenge for everyone – particularly us in Victoria who had restrictions for long durations and remote learning. It is certainly a year we hope we do not need to repeat.

The subjects of this layout are my two kiddies – posing beautifully with their ‘first day’ sign prior to heading into school  . Full of smiles which I can honestly say have been present all week. It’s such a relief to know they are comfortable and happy in their new little space for the year. I chose to print the photos in a photo strip form in a smaller size  I love the definition the white border gives.

The cut file on this layout is a school themed file from the Cut to You store. I was able to use a variety of patterns from the paper pad to back the sections within the file. I love how it turned out!
I created three main clusters of embellishments on this layout. The image below shared the largest cluster in the bottom left of the page and to the left of the photo. I used mainly ephemera for this cluster but made sure to include a variety of foam adhesives to play around with the dimension I create on the page.


Behind the cut file and photos – I used a couple of strips of patterned paper. I added extra detail by machine stitching the edges of the paper pieces and the layout too. I just love how it turned out.

The title, although small was the perfect sentiment for these two ‘Time to Shine’


My last step in the creation of this layout was to add typed journaling to the page. As always I have used my typewriter and adhered it in strip form.

HELLO BEAUTIFUL | WILD AT HEART | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative friends, Gwen back on the blog, I hope you are all doing well.  It’s Throwback Thursday today, so I’m diving into my stash and using the ‘Wild At Heart‘ collection.  This collection is from 2017 and I still absolutely adore it.  I love the mix of colours in the line and especially the blues and purples, and the sentiments are all so sweet.  I’ve used it to document some fun photos of my daughter just before a school disco from a few years back and especially love the theme to ‘Be your own kind of Beautiful’.

I had quite a bit of stash left in this collection embellishment wise however, I was a little short on the ‘Patchwork’ pattern paper which I really wanted to use.  To work around this, I’ve planned out my page first.  I knew I wanted to work with this cut file from CUT to YOU so first up needed to decide the position of my photos.  From there, I could save time and paper by only backing the parts of the cut file that would be showing.  No one would ever know that behind my photos, the cut file is not backed at all.

To back the cut file, I’ve used the ‘Patchwork’, ‘Luscious’ and ‘Artisan’ papers.  For my background, I’ve used a plain pink cardstock from my stash and framed it with the ‘Bohemian‘ pattern paper which is still available in the shop.  I’ve then added some stitching for extra detail.

Working with the supplies I had left, I’ve gone through them and pulled out anything I thought would match, looking at the sentiment in the pieces and their colour.  I decided on three focal points to create a visual triangle, two towards the top right-hand side of my page and one bottom left-hand side of the page.

I then fussy cut out three of the butterflies from the ‘Mariposa’ pattern paper and positioned them; one in each spot in my visual triangle.  From there I built my embellishment cluster, starting with larger pieces first, working towards the smaller elements.

I’ve used the title ‘Hello Beautiful’ from the Chipboard Sticker Sheet, I love how big and bold it is.  I’ve also used several of the sentiments from that sheet, (including the pink arrow below that says ‘wonderful’) the dimension chipboard creates on the page is really lovely.

I’ve also pulled some sentiments from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ – I especially love the typed sentiments at the bottom.  I’ve added these to my page using 3D foam tape and to finish up the layout, I’ve added in a flair button and the ‘Enamel Dot Sparklers’.

Cool Dude | Legendary Collection | Laura Alberts

Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a fun boy layout! This is an update for my son’s album of his new style, glasses and very long hair. I used the gorgeous Legendary collection, especially the All Star patterned paper and the die cut ephemera. Starting with the larger stars, I created a border on either side of my photos that frame the images in the center. I added gradually smaller and smaller stars, many punched from scraps leftover from previous projects! To add a bit of detail, I added dots of Nuvo for a splattered effect.

I used the die cut titles that accompanied this collection for my “Cool Dude” as well as a phrase sticker from the 6×12 sticker sheet. In the gap between the photo and the title, I squeezed in a quick note about his updated appearance, which has changed quite a lot in the last year! Enamel dots were perfect to add a bit of dimension to some of the stars as well.

On a few of the larger stars, I added small word phrase stickers with angles cut into the edges or arrows from the die cut pack. I love the way this mix of colors worked so well with my photos and was glad to find some of the scraps I had punched were red, which is a common color for my boys to wear! Once I added a neutral border to contain all the flying stars, it felt complete!

 

I hope this star-filled layout inspires you to look at your scraps a little differently! You can use punches and fussy cutting to use up even the smallest bits and pieces in a collection! To see how the “Cool Dude” layout came together, check out the process video below!

Beautiful | Day Dream | Anita Bownds

Hi lovely’s , Anita back with you today sharing a another floral layout using day dream collection .
full of fussy cut flowers and pretty paper layers ….seriously who doesn’t love some flowers all layered up.
I started off with white cardstock and then I cut 4 strips of sweet serenity about 1 x 12 and punched a border on 2 of the strips then I layered the punched strips over the other and added them to the top and bottom of the layout

 

Then I tucked a fussy cut flowers from the garden variety patterns paper and added some phrase stickers from the accessory stickers
Then I cut a big 4 1/2 inch strip and punched 2 sides and then cut 2 more inch strips to tuck underneath to make the border punched edges pop

 

Next I matted my photo on papers from the paper pad and tucking a doily and tab from the accessory stickers then I add a few other stickers around the photo then next I added more fussy cut flowers around the photo and tucking them at the top of the photo

 

Then to finish off the layout I added a cardstock title popping it up on double sided foam tape to add that cute dimension
