Hey y’all! Laura Alberts here again with a fun boy layout using a Throwback Thursday collection…Boys Rule! I adore this collection and the mix of colors and patterns that make it so versatile to use! Scrapping these photos of my oldest getting his driver’s license was so much fun! I paired a Paige Evans’ cut file called ‘Travel Words’ with the bright bold colors in the A5 paper pad.
To give the cut file a bit of pop, I layered it on top of the gorgeous gray background in this collection. I added a word phrase in front of each of the O’s in the long title. My photos on the other hand are the star of the show! I made sure to layer a few frames around the perimeter of my layout. Love this look!
I kept my embellishing fairly simple on this one because the large title doesn’t need it! A few small clusters around my photos that utilize ephemera pieces.
I hope this layout inspires you to give cut files a go, if you haven’t already, and then break out your paper frames! Be sure to check out the video below to see how Go Fly came together!
Hi Cocoa Vanilla fans and welcome back to the blog!
Today I have put my Storyteller collection away and have pulled out the No Limitscollection to play with.
I am documenting some fun pictures of my husband and youngest son on a recent holiday to Bali when we went quad bike riding.
To start my page I used the woodgrain paper called “Big Bang” and tore it about three quarters of the way down to create some texture and added a strip of the “Eclipse” paper underneath it.
I decided I wanted to add some mixed media to my background so I pulled out a circular stencil with some silver texture paste and added some white ink splatters.
I placed my photos in the middle of the page and used some vellum to add another layer. Next, to add more colour and papers to my page, I used a cut file from Paper Issues to add more circular elements to my page… I love these!!!
For my title, I used the word ‘Adventure’ from the Die Cut Titles and the word ‘Fun’ from one of the ‘Pocket Cards‘.
Once this was done I felt like the bottom of my page was too white so I pulled out some circular stamps and added these with co-ordinating colours … love the effect!
To finish my page, I used different pieces from the ‘Die cut elements’ pack’ and some of the Chipboard pieces including the stars to scatter around the page.
I hope you enjoyed my page today and you found some inspiration to get your memories documented.
Hey y’all! Laura Alberts here again with another t-ball layout using the gorgeous Storyteller collection. These fun photos of my daughter and my husband capture perfectly their bond. Sports aren’t really Olivia’s preferred activity, but she was more than happy to trail her Daddy around the ballfield. Love that these memories are preserved with this beautiful layout. Using this lovely sketch I created as a guide, I’m creating two clusters of photos and embellishments, connected by the title.
In the top cluster, I’ve added tags from cut apart in the A5 paper stack, with puffy circles in the holes. I’ve layered a frame to the right, peeking behind the photos and anchoring my title at the bottom. These sweet little butterflies are the perfect whimsical touch.
For my title, I pulled out an ephemera piece that perfectly nestles with this camera and a floral cluster to create a detailed connection between my two photos. I love the way the gold ink and Nuvo add a bit of texture and fun around the edges.
On the bottom photo, I’ve added a tab and a floral cluster with a chipboard banner, then tucked a journaling card behind it. This gives me a place to journal about the t-ball experience without taking away from the overall design. I especially love these little Nuvo butterfly trails, they add so much movement to the page!
I hope this sketch inspires you to try a new design! If you’d like to see this layout come together, check out the process video below!
Hello CVS fans, Kellie back here today with a layout for Throwback Thursday.
When I was thinking about which older collection I wanted to pull out I went with ‘Sunkissed’…..the bright colours in this collection really are my jam.
To start my page, I decided I wanted to create a sunburst design on the left side of my page. I chose the paper ‘Fun in the Sun’ from the collection and a paper called ‘Home Grown’ from the ‘These Days’ collection. I then hand stitched these down on my page to create more texture. I decided I didnt want to leave between the rays white so I used some distress oxides to colour my page.
To create the illusion of clouds I made a fake stencil with a piece of cardstock and again used distress oxides in pink and blues down the right side of my page.
I decided to use a cutfile for my title and instead of using it as a straight word as it was designed I decided to cut it up so I could curl it around my photo which I cut into a circle and backed using some of the papers from the A5 paper stack. Again I used the ‘Fun in the Sun’ paper to back the word ‘Sunshine’. To add more interest to it I used some of the floral ephemera and puffy stickers between the letters.
To embellish the right side of my page I made a large embellishment cluster with a bunch of elements from the ephemera pack and some of the puffy stickers….. puffy stickers always have my heart! I also added some of the word phrases from the Accessory Sticker Sheet to the bottom of my page to finish it off.
I love how bright and summery this page turned out….yellows, blues and pink… YUM!
Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have been inspired!
It’s Sophie on the blog today and I am happy to share a brand-new page created with the Storyteller collection.
I used two cut files for this layout. They are designed by Paige Evans.
I used a thick white cardstock for my background. I backed a few of the clouds with a blue patterned paper from the A5 Paper Stack. I added a little bit of white gesso on some areas to create a more faded and fluffier look.
I placed the clouds on the upper part of the page, mounted on foam adhesive.
I backed the little houses cut file with many different patterned papers, again from the A5 Paper Stack and added a few white scalloped borders created with a border punch.
I also created a shaker heart on the middle bigger house and used some coral sequins from my stash.
I used a colored photo of my daughter Sabrina watering the garden with the “help” of our two dogs…
My title comes from the Foam Title Stickers pack.
I wrote down my journaling on a fussy cut piece of patterned paper and embellished around the shaker heart, journaling and photo with bits and pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack. I scattered a few Puffy Sticker Hearts as the finishing touch.
Here are more close-ups:
I love to use cut files on my pages. Do you use them often?
Well, thank you for passing by, and I will see you again soon!
Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a fun column style layout featuring the gorgeous new Storyteller collection! I am completely in love with this one! The stunning color scheme and all of the tiny details are just perfection. Scrapping a handful of fun selfies for this layout, I opted for two columns on either side of the page. Using the Cross It Off woodgrain paper for the background really helps these photos a pop off the page. Then, I pulled in three papers from the A5 paper stack for my columns, as well as a floral strip from the Story Time cut-apart paper.
I stacked two 3×3″ photos together on the left column and then added a mixed title below them. The ‘Love this’ is from the icon ephemera pack and then ‘Story’ is a foam title. Along with a floral cluster between the two photos, I added a banner along the bottom of the column. One of my favorite details on this page is the tiny flowers I fussy cut and added around my clusters and title.
On the right column, I combined a 3×4″ photo and a 3×4″ journaling card to mimic the stacked design on the left. Tucking in a floral cluster between them and then adding a banner gave it the perfect, simple touch it needed. The wood buttons made the best little accents at the top of my columns, giving the impression that they are pinned to this woodgrain paper. Such a fun detail!
I hope this layout gave you some inspiration to incorporate a variety of different-sized photos into your layout! If you’d like to see how ‘Love This Story’ came together, check out the process video below!
Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share another design team project with you. For today’s post I was tasked with scraplifting the amazingly talented Sophie Delorme, which was simultaneously exciting, but terrifying. It’s no secret I have a huge scrappy crush on Sophie’s work, so to be asked to scraplift one of her layouts was no easy feat. How would I ever choose? Or do it justice? In the end, I chose a stunning autumnal themed layout that she created a few months ago using the ‘These Days’ collection.
Here is Sophie’s layout…
And here is my take on it using the ‘Happiness’ collection…
I have to admit, the clincher that made me choose this particular layout of Sophie’s was the butterflies. And I couldn’t help but reach for the collection with my all-time favourite Cocoa Vanilla butterflies – ‘Happiness’. I think I will actually cry the day I use my last scraps of this collection.
Sophie and I have daughters that are very close in age, so just like Sophie did for her layout, I wanted to document a photo of my gorgeous girl too. Due to her position, where she was facing towards the left side of the photo I chose to mirror the design so I could position my photo closer to the left edge of the page and having her facing inwards. (Tip: always position your photos so the main subject is facing towards the larger space on your page.)
Just like Sophie’s original, I added torn paper along the bottom edge of the page; and instead of the Pocket Cards that she had used across the middle, I used pieces of patterned paper cut to size. I chose the piece with the two large butterflies and hello beautiful on it to act as my title card, which was cut from the cut apart paper. On top of the the heart paper I added some of the phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet, which I had mounted onto some pink paper to give them a little definition against the background.
From the torn paper along the bottom edge, I added fussy cut flowers spilling out and winding their way up along the right edge of the photo. these were layered to give them depth and I used foam tape under the one on the corner of the photo for even more dimension. I couldn’t help but add a little frayed gauze for some texture too.
The only item I used on my page that wasn’t from the ‘Happiness’ collection, was the small wood button that was actually from the ‘Sunkissed’ collection. ‘Happiness’ did not have wood buttons, and as Sophie had used one on her page I wanted to include one too. I also wanted to add a couple of embellishments to my photo, so I chose a small heart flag and a phrase banner from the Die Cut Ephemera pack.
I substituted the journalling from Sophie’s layout with a couple of paint swatch stickers from the Clear Sticker sheet and I like the mixed media touch they gave the page. The star of the embellishment show however, was the glorious burst of fussy cut butterflies spilling upwards from the title card. I bent their wings up from the page to give them dimension and a sense of movement. The final touch was some small splatters of navy mist (because I couldn’t have my layout too clean, could I?)
If you would like to see how I put it all together, you can watch my process video here:
Thanks for stopping by today, I’ll be back with another project again soon. Until then, happy scrapping!
Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a challenge for this space themed collection, No Limits! I really enjoy seeing how far I can stretch a theme and this one worked beautifully for an Easter layout! Due to the bold colors in my sons’ outfits, these photos didn’t tie in terribly well with the typically pastel Easter themed collections, but were perfect for No Limits! I especially wanted pops of the blue and black in the background.
To draw plenty of attention to my photos, I highlighted them with bright yellow pocket page cards that really stand out on the darker background. By cutting them in half, I can stretch the pocket cards to mat my 3×4 photos! In addition, I fussy cut an entire 12×12 and A5 size page of the Nebula patterned paper, so that I could use these stars to scatter along the border of my photos. This detail adds such whimsy and movement to the page!
My favorite part of this layout is the fab word phrases I found in the cut apart sheet and the 6×12 sticker set! Love adding lots of words in addition to my title to capture the excitement of both my photos and my mood while scrapping these fun photos! The little chipboard and puffy stars were just the perfect finishing touches to add a little dimension and fun to the star border too!
I hope this layout inspires you to break the theme and try to find ways to use themed collections for your everyday or an opposite themed layout! If you’d like to see how ‘Love This’ came together, check out the process video below!
Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with another layout using the stunning new No Limits collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio! I absolutely love the versatility of this collection. I’ve used it for boy layouts, this is a teen layout, and I have plans for a baby layout! One of the many reasons I love Cocoa Vanilla designs is that they are so easy to use. This star explosion design was a lot of fun and uses the Big Bang patterned paper as a background with the Orbit patterned paper as a border. Loving this space theme!
Bursting out from behind my photo of my teenagers are a plethora of stars fussy cut from the 12×12 and A5 paper stack versions of the Nebula patterned paper. Having both sizes gives me a wide variety of stars to use as I scattered them out from the photos. Largely, I followed the lines on the Big Bang paper, but for some of the small stars, I just placed them randomly. To get a little pop of red on the page, I punched some tiny stars from the multi-colored stripe paper and added a word phrase from the cut-apart sheet.
For an extra pop, I used alpha dies on the A5 bright green patterned paper, then matted my photo with the same paper. Loved going a bit silly with this title as I point out the distinctly different styles my two oldest kids have. One has gone for super short with a shaved undercut and the other is growing super long hair! Love that! This title is an homage to their amazingly unique senses of style. To finish off this layout, like I always do, I added gold Nuvo and splattered with gold ink spray.
I hope this layout inspires you to give an explosion layout style a go! To see how the ‘Hair-mazing’ layout came together, check out the process video below:
Hey y’all! Laura back again with a layout inspired by the gorgeous October Mood Board. The color scheme was perfect for the These Days collection and these sweet florals and greenery reminded me of this cut file from Liz Longest Designs. It’s a very simple wreath that looks divine when dressed up with these floral ephemera pieces! I backed each of the leaves with a green floral paper from the A5 paper stack.
I separated out the colors of the flowers in the floral ephemera pack and stuck to the smaller ones for the wreath, balancing out the mix of colors around the page. Each of the flowers has a drop of Nuvo in the center to give it a little extra texture and sparkle! I used the small puffy alphas for my title, spelling out ‘My Sister My Friend’ right next to my top photo. These photos are of my twins and catching a rare moment of them being sweet to each other was definitely a scrapworthy moment!
I created four clusters on this layout around my photos. The top cluster has a fussy cut frame as a base, with a bit of fussy cut florals and floral ephemera laid on top. The sparkly gold cloth hearts are squeezed in too along with a puffy word phrase and heart. These details really make a tremendous difference to my clusters, giving them the finishing touches they needed.
Similarly, this cluster to the left of the bottom photo contains the same elements. This helps all of the clusters feel cohesive on the page. In addition to the Nuvo drops, I also splattered with gold ink spray around the floral clusters and the perimeter of the wreath for a whimsical look.
I hope this inspires you to look at your cut files a little differently and incorporate them in a big way on your projects too! To see how “My Sister My Friend” came together, check out the process video below!
