Hi Creative Friends,

It’s Gwen with you on the blog today sharing a very special page.  Today is International Sister’s day and to celebrate, I’ve created a page that documents my relationship with my sister.   It features the stunning ‘Happiness’ collection and a photo taken with my sister at a lunch outing we had recently.

The inspiration for this page absolutely started with my photo.  I love how blue that sky is behind us and was immediately drawn to the blue watercolour design of the ‘Good Times’ pattern paper.  I then took a cut file from my stash, this one from CUT to YOU as it was perfect for today’s theme celebrating sisters.  I’ve cut it out as a statement title for my page using the ‘Botanical Bliss’ pattern paper.  I wanted a real contrast between the file and the background for my layout which I had planned to make white.  I backed it with the stunning blue watercolour pattern paper; ‘Good Times’.

With my cut file sorted, I went to work on the design of my page.  I mounted my photo with the ‘Expressive’ pattern paper and then backed on foam for dimension and added machine stitching.  Once I was sure where these large elements were going to go, the page looked a little too plain for what I had in mind, so I thought it might be fun to add a little bit of mixed media onto my background.

I’ve added clear gesso to some thick white cardstock and then used some mists, spraying and moving around the colour until I was happy.  I like my mixed media to be a little subtle and soft, but do love the addition it makes to this page.  It adds another layer of detail and softens the plain white background I had previously.

Once my background was dry, I’ve added my cut file (with foam tape for dimension) and my photo… Now it was time for some embellishing!

I began by fussy cutting out some pink butterflies from the ‘Bright and Beautiful’ pattern paper.  I also pulled out some of the floral pieces from the ‘Die Cut Ephemera’ pack.  I then went about creating a floral cluster down the right-hand side of my photo.  I then scattered the butterflies over my page and added a few more elements from the Die Cut Ephemera pack.  The bow you see below has been cut with a die with some of the scrap ‘Botanical Bliss’ pattern paper.

To finish the page off, I’ve grabbed some sentiment stickers from the ‘Accessory Sticker Sheet’ and added.

Thanks for popping by today to see my latest project.  I hope my page inspires you to get creative with the ‘Happiness’ collection, it is one of my favourites!  And, if you have a sister, why not create a special page to celebrate her; I bet she’s awesome like mine! xo

Until next time,

Happy Vibes | Happiness | Anita Bownds

Hi crafty friends,

sharing a fun layout of our kitty Luna using the happiness collection

So you might remember last month I shared a layout using the layered fringe behind a cut file and because I had some of that beautiful layered fringe leftover from that project I wanted to use it on another layout .

I started with white cardstock and a (flower 290299) cut file from Paige Evans from white cardstock and back with vellum.

Using the layered fringed pattern paper good vibes and the same pattern paper from the 6×8 paper pad

I added the fringe paper to the left hand side of my cardstock and with the 6×8 piece of pattern paper I trimmed about a inch off one side and tucked the biggest piece underneath the fringed paper and the 1 inch to the right hand side of the layout

Then using the leaves of the cut file I cut apart I then tucked just underneath the strip of pattern paper.

Then to add a flower I used a (layered flower with leaves 288406) cut file from Paige Evans that I cut out of meadow pattern paper and layered the flowers together making 2 a bigger and smaller for the smaller I added a flower from the ephemera in the centre and then a brad to add more texture and dimension. Then I started clustering more of the ephemera

I backed my photo with papers from the 6×8 paper Pad and using a few to layer behind my photo and adhered it down using some double sided foam tape. Then I added the big flower on top of a vellum backed flower And adding a flair button in the centre.

I tucked another set of vellum backed leaves behind my photo layers and added my title using the cardstock titles I then added some rhinestones around the big flower and around the cluster of ephemera

And to finish of the layout with some cardstock stickers at the top of the photo.

Friendship | Boys Rule Collection | Kylie Kingham.

Hello there! It’s Kylie back with you all on the blog today, sharing another fun project I have been working on. Since yesterday was International Friendship Day, I thought I would work on some Traveler’s Notebook pages featuring my boy and his very best friend Maximus- Our much loved (*cough- and spoilt) pup.

The “Boys Rule” collection was perfect for my photos and I found my pages came together very easily thanks to all the cute die cuts and stickers I could use to enhance my pages.

Using off cut strips of paper, I love to create borders for my pages overlapping each other, even tucking my photo behind one. They really help to frame my page. The ‘You and Me’ title phrases I borrowed from the ‘Midnight’ collection.

I mostly used the 6 x 8 paper pad to back each TN page. It’s pages are the perfect size to cut down and it also limits waste. I lined each page with a different design making sure they were cut slightly smaller than the TN page. This gives each page the appearance of a white border. **TIP- Once you have cut the background paper for the first page, use it as a template for your remaining pages to ensure each is the exact same size.

Using the frames from the die cut pack, I layered them over each other to back one of my photos.

Some of the phrase die cuts were a perfect addition to my photos and the story I was preserving. I used lots of the arrows as well as the star die cuts to layer over my images or to fill any spaces that needed balance.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my Traveler’s Notebook today and that it inspires you a little to fill your own pages.

Take care,

Kylie xo

Beautiful Friends | Happiness Collection | Tarrah McLean

Hi Cocoa Vanilla friends!

Happy International Friendship Day! It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a layout created especially for International Friendship Day!

I have used the gorgeous Happiness collection to document a photo of some beautiful friends – you may recognise a few familiar faces in this photo…one being Zoe – the owner and founder of Cocoa Vanilla Studio, and 2 of my fellow CVS design team members – Raquel Bowman and Sue Plumb.I started out by choosing a free cut file from Paige Evans Happy Scrappy Place on Facebook, I cut it out from white textured cardstock. I then chose some of the gorgeous patterned papers from the 6′ x 8′ paper pad to back the layers of petals. I started with the floral one then a solid colour and then went to a smaller floral again. I LOVE how it turned out! I love the array of florals and colours all mixed together! One it was all backed, I considered machine stitching the cut file, but decided against it when it would have been a bit fiddly. I chose the ‘B’ side of the rainbow stripe paper as my background and popped the cut file up using craft foam.I matted my photo with one of the gorgeous pink papers from the 6′ x 8′ paper pad and also layered another scrap piece I had laying around. I popped the photo and the layers up using craft foam also. I cut out the ‘Fun, Fun, Fun’ quotes from the frames paper and tucked that into the left of my photo. This photo was taken right before a really fun night out together so the Fun, Fun, Fun was perfect to add! I think that’s what friendship is all about, having a blast together! I had to cut out some of the gorgeous rainbow butterflies to scatter around the cut file. I popped these up using foam dots and also curled up their wings with my fingers.

My title is made up of 2 of the cardstock titles from the Happiness collection. Of course the word ‘Friends’ had to appear on the page and I decided on ‘Beautiful’ for the first word. I popped up the title with foam dots and then chose a few small embellishments like the heart and small flower die-cuts and the ‘Good Stuff’ ticket to add. Lastly I added some of the phrase accessory stickers that were suited to the page and also the date stamp.

Thanks so much for stopping by the Cocoa Vanilla blog today! Do you have a friend or 2 that you have photos of? Get creating and document those fun times together all in honour of International Friendship Day!

Happy creating!

The Best | Hello Sunshine Collection | Anna Komenda

Hello friends.

As many of you know, I am a big fan of colorful designs. The more colors, the better and a whole rainbow is a perfect solution. I also love scrapping summer photos and memories and this was was pretty special.

I had a great pleasure to join this year’s Creative Escape retreat in Coffs Harbour. The venue, where the retreat is happening, has an access to amazing beach and I loved walking there. I snapped many photos and girls were kind enough to print some for me.

I reached for one of my favorite CVS collections – “Hello Sunshine” and made a rainbow page. Two pleasures in one attempt.

The “Hello Sunshine” collection is almost completely out of stock, but you may find some pieces remaining in the big sale happening now. You can shop the sale HERE

Thank you for stopping by and see you in two weeks. I will have for you another layout to share.

XO Anna

Stay Unique | Happiness | Amanda Baldwin

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends!

Amanda here, and today I am sharing another butterfly theme layout with the gorgeous HAPPINESS collection. This time I’ve taken some inspiration from fellow teamie, Anna Komenda (‘cos she’s one awe-inspiring creative!) and I just love how it turned out – hope you like it too!

“Stay Unique”

Wow! Isn’t this super pretty?!!

I love a good grid design, & when I saw Anna using butterflies for the ‘boxes’ I knew I’d have to lift her design! It’s seriously SO cool! I’ve mixed mine up a bit though, & created a fun new look with our beautiful HAPPINESS pattern papers, LOVE!!!

I started with the fabulous polka dot pattern paper, CV-HA002 SPRINKLES as the 12inch base. I used my silhouette software to arrange the butterfly cut file ( Butterfly Wings courtesy of The Cut Shoppe) into a grid design. I cut out all 9 butterflies and saved the ‘off-cut’ negative to create my background with. I trimmed the white cardstock ‘off-cut’ to 11″ x 11″ and then proceeded to back all the butterflies. I selected pattern papers, CV-HA009 MEADOW & CV-HA004 FRAME OF MIND and alternated them throughout the white cardstock background. I love how pretty the pink and blue/green silhouettes look! Simply stunning!

Next, I used a sheet of ‘fun foam’ to back the entire 11″ base, before gluing it onto the SPRINKLES base. This gave my layout a little lift and added some subtle dimension too! With the base of the layout completed, the rest of the layout was all about my sweet photo and embellishments!

On the pink butterflies, I layered one of the cut file butterflies, followed by a fussy cut pink butterfly from pattern paper, CV-HA008 BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL.  Here’s a closer look for you….

Simple and yet, oh so effective! Beautiful!

I chose to leave the FRAME OF MIND butterflies free from embellishments, as the detailed design on the pattern is just too pretty to cover, don’t you think? That said, I did end up covering two of them with my CARDSTOCK TITLES, Stay Unique, but I tried to keep that lovely pattern visible.

Next, I applied a few painty splatters of color in the center of the page, spreading out towards the butterflies. This subtle hint of colour breaks up all the white and adds that extra point of interest. Once dried, I built my photo cluster over the center butterfly….

You’ll spy that I used the brush stroke CLEAR STICKERS (complimenting the previously applied paint splatters) beneath the cluster, & then added in some DIE CUT EPHEMERA blooms. I foam mounted my sweet girl’s photo, and then embellished it with a DIE CUT EPHEMERA sentiment label & 2 pretty butterflies. I tucked in the beautiful sentiment from the ACCESSORY STICKERS, and finished off with that awesome FLAIR BUTTON.  For final touches, I added a few more CLEAR STICKERS around the page.

And there you have it!

Super beautiful creating with the HAPPINESS collection!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my project today, & feel inspired to get creating today!

Thanks so much for your kind comments & support!

til next time,

Happy Arty Days,

Amanda xo

Happy Times | Happiness Collection | Michelle Stokes

Hello scrappy Friends, its Michelle here with a new layout share featuring the wonderful Happiness collection and the coordinating FREE cut files designed by fellow DT member Gwen. This was a super speedy layout to create, one that would be easy to recreate if you like the white on white background with pops of colour.

To begin the layout I started by making the background using silhouette studio. I traced only the wreath design from the FREE Cut file set then duplicated, mirrored and resized before cutting on white cardstock.

Next I adhered the pieces to a second piece of white cardstock and machine sewed them all into place, plus the stitching gives the layout a little more subtle detail.

I’ve used a piece of BOTANICAL BLISS paper under the photo and a smaller strip of EXPRESSIVE to add a pop of pink. Both of these designs are the smaller print from the 6×8 paper pad

To create the title cluster I’ve gathered bits from both the ephemera pack and accessory sticker sheet, plus a strip of my most favourite paper MEADOW

I created 2 smaller clusters top left and bottom right of the large outer wreath. These are made up of stickers and ephemera pieces, mainly florals layered with glue dots for slight dimension.

Lastly a splattering of gold colour shine and a date stamp and it was complete. Super sweet and oh so simple and fun to create.

Thanks so much for stopping by, be sure to drop into the Facebook group to share all your craft CVS goodness! We love to see what you all create too.

Until next time, happy scrapping

Throwback Thursday TN Spreads | Bohemian Dream Collection | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It’s Sue Plumb here to share some new Traveler’s Notebook spreads that I created with the beautiful ‘Bohemian Dream’ collection for our Throwback Thursday feature.

For these spreads, I documented a variety of family memories, ensuring that the details of the stories were also recorded. I started with a spread for my daughter, choosing photos that I thought would work well with the same colour scheme.

I started with a piece of the Dreamer paper, cutting it into two pieces and placing it either side of the spine. (This is usually my “go to” starting point to create cohesion across the two pages.) On the left page I also added a small scrap of the Abstract paper, and on the right page an extra piece of the Dreamer paper, showing the stripes on the other side.

After deciding where my photos and journalling would go, I used a variety of pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and some Accessory Stickers to decorate the page, finishing off with a few hearts from the Enamel Shapes pack.

For my second spread, which I created for one of my sons, I began with a strip of the gorgeous Gypsy Heart paper on each page to anchor my design.

I then matted one of the photos with the reverse side of the Gypsy Heart paper before sticking both photos down. Again, I had pre-printed my journalling (so I knew exactly how much space it would require); and then added it to the pages too.

Then it was simply a case of decorating the pages by filling in the gaps. I used stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet, including some of the small word / phrase stickers; and pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack. I also added a few enamel hearts. To finish the spread and fill in some of the white space, I added some extra doodled details using felt pen and coloured pencils, as well as stamped the date.

My final page was also for my daughter’s book. I had found this photo in my stash that I had printed some time ago but never used; so I looked up the memory on my Facebook page to see what the details were. I was so happy to come across a funny quote she had said, so used it in my journalling.

I again used a piece of the Gypsy Heart paper (as it was already out on my table), then added the photo and journalling. To fill the gaps I added the smile sentiment from the Boho Bits paper; a couple of larger stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet, then the sweet little bird from the same sheet – quick and easy! I finished the page off with some doodled detail.

Thanks so much for stopping by today so I could share this with you. If you are love the ‘Bohemian Dream’ collection as much as I do, you better get in quick and snap it up while you can – it’s currently on clearance in the Cocoa Vanilla store. You can shop the entire sale HERE

Until next time, happy scrapping!

So Happy | Happiness Collection | Kylie Kingham.

Hey lovely friends! It’s Kylie back with you today, to share another layout I have just completed featuring the “Happiness” collection. I’ve used a theme of ‘This makes me happy…’ so naturally this collection was perfect. There’s also a few other elements that make me happy: Flowers, Mixed Media and of course a pic of my girl.

I wanted my layout to be soft and delicate so I decided to use a white background. Using a circular stencil from my craft stash, I added some stamping to my background with my favourite shade of Peacock. I applied the ink with a stamp dauber and a gentle circular motion.

Next I backed a Butterfly cut file, (which was designed by Paige Evans), with various papers. The body of the Butterfly was adhered flat to my page, but I used foam tape on the wings to give them dimension. Once it was in place, from my craft stash I chose a floral die and cut several of them in white card stock also. These were added in behind my Butterfly and photo, not to stand out but to add a nice texture to my background.

Once my photo was backed it was also added to my layout, surrounded by lots of the pretty florals from the die cut pack.I also snuck one of the Button Flairs next to my photo, backed with some scrunched cotton.

Some of the title phrases were the perfect finish for my layout and gave it a nice balance.I also added these with foam tape so they would stand out a little. To finish off my layout I added a single flower or heart randomly to balance open space with colour, over the stencilled background.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you get to enjoy some scrapping time for yourself soon!

Kylie. xo
