Summertime Banners | Mix & Match | Missy Whidden

Happy Thursday, friends!  Missy here, and I have a fun and festive Summer layout to share today.  I mixed and matched papers and embellishments from the Hello Sunshine, Wild at Heart, Make a Wish and You Rock collections to create a fun rainbow of colored banners.  I used a triangle punch to create a bunch of triangles and then glued them all to some cord.  I used a fun pool photo that had lots of blue in it to coordinate with all the bright colors.  I used some white cardstock for my background and gave it some color and texture using some Shimmerz Paints and some modeling paste through a circle stencil.  I folded the tops of each triangle over the cord a little bit to create some dimension and then layered them on the page.

Here you can see the dimension from the banners.  They turned out really great!  I tucked my photo under the top banner and added some embellishments on and around it.  I used a fun sun die cut from Hello Sunshine as well as an Accessory Sticker and a Puffy Sticker.

I added color coordinated stickers and chipboard on each banner.  This piece here is from Wild at Heart, and the sticker is from Make a Wish.  It’s just amazing at how pieces from each collection match so well together.

I added the modeling paste to the background for some added interest and texture.  Since it’s white, it sort of blends in and just creates a subtle statement.  I also added a bit of yellow thread here.

To the left of the photo, I tucked in a beautiful ombre pink and white vellum heart from Make a Wish as well as some tangled thread.  This cluster of embellishments is from Hello Sunshine.  I went simple with the title and used some of the patterned alpha stickers from Make a Wish.

Here’s one more close up of the beautiful banners and coordinating embellishments.  I can’t get enough of these gorgeous colors!

I hope you guys are inspired in some way by this…rainbow layouts are so fun to make!  Check out my process video here if you’d like to see how I put this all together.

About the Author:

Missy hails from Central Florida in the United States, where she has lived her entire life. She has been married to husband Marshall for over 16 years, although they have been together for 22. They have two sweet little girls, Reese (10) and Paige (7). Both girls are autistic and nonverbal so life is never boring. Missy says "they have taught us so much and they are very happy children. They are the light of our lives and they make us laugh constantly". When Missy is not scrapping, she's a fitness instructor. She teaches six classes a week. Before having children, she taught high school English. She says she has always been interested in art and playing with paper and stickers, and began scrapbooking just before Reese was born in 2006. She was hooked instantly! Missy's style has changed quite a bit. Back when she started she used paper, stickers, and deco scissors. Over the years she discovered die cutting tools and mixed media products. Currently she loves to use watercolours, her Cameo, and her sewing machine on most of her projects; and she usually scraps photos of her children or family. She describes scrapbooking as her calming therapy that helps her to relax. "I try and do something scrappy related every day, and I just love it dearly." When she isn't creating, Missy also loves reading and catching up on her favourite TV shows.
