One of my favourite sights is that of my kids enjoying a book. It’s as if all the cogs in their brains are turning and processing all that they are reading. After getting the baby to nap one day, I found the older brother lazing on his bed and reading. And I’m glad I caught that moment and created the following:
These are certainly good times – times when the kiddos are reading like a boss. To start, I used the B side of Happy Snaps for my background. I also added a frame around the entire page using Top Gear. Using this multi-coloured paper allowed me to have a colourful page, one that included the entire colour palette from the Totally Rad collection. For some contrast, I added a strip of Say What down the middle of the page.
Around my photo, I layered various pieces from the ephemera pack. The title for the page came from the Mix Tape paper that I added a frame around. I like how those robot die cuts just up the cuteness factor on the page. To play on the idea of the little one’s mental gears turning as he reads, I went to town embellishing the page with all the gear die cuts and metal gear pieces in the Bits & Pieces pack.
To anchor the photo to the background, I decided to cut some patterned papers to resemble bookmarks and adhered these to the bottom of the photo. A simple and effective reference to the theme of the page.
Finally, to play with the vertical aspect of the page, I attached two star shaped paperclips to the top and bottom of the page. For a little bit of fun, I tied the twine found in the Bits & Pieces pack to the paperclips and held them down with staples. I also attached a couple of diecuts that I layered on each other at the bottom.
For a journaling spot, I wrote directly on the page and found that adding the word “amazing” that was printed on acetate helped to convey my thoughts without adding unnecessary weight to the page. I anchored this with a couple of woodies. For that final flourish, enamel dots were added. And I was happy.
Thanks for joining me today and I sure hope you have some fun scrapping and reading as well!
