Let’s go on an Adventure | Hit the Road Layout | Raquel Bowman

By | 2017-09-26T20:18:38+00:00 October 5th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Limited Edition|

Hey everyone, its Raquel here today with you sharing my latest layout for Cocoa Vanilla. For my layout today I have used one of the limited edition mini collection kits that were available at the recent Paperific expo in Melbourne and online in the Cocoa Vanilla store. I was lucky enough to help out at the expo and nab myself the gorgeous exclusives. I am using the ‘Hit the Road’ collection today documenting a page for my little mans album.

Here is the page I created:

Here is the process of how this layout came together:

For this page today I created it in 8.5×11″ size. The moment I am documenting is a newborn photo of my little man. I chose to use this photo as the theme of the collection is adventure and travel in masculine tones, so I took the message of a new adventure we will have with this little man now in our lives.

For the base of the layout I used a free cut file from the Paper Issues store and just shrunk it down to fit the 8.5″ wide size. I backed the file using one of the papers in the collection. I placed a couple of layers of patterned paper and a small doily under the small 3×4″ landscape photo. I added some detail to the ledger look paper by adding a binding edge punch along the right side.

These mini collections contain 5 double sided papers, an ephemera pack and a 3 set of flair. I have stuck to mainly these things when embellishing the page. At the top right cluster on the page I have layered a frame, banners, tags and a die cut circle. The flair and circle die cut helped repeat the circle design that happened on the main base of the page. I also added the date typewritten and an enamel shape from the Free Spirit collection.

I also added another small cluster to the bottom left of the photo. This contained more die cut shapes which act as my title ‘let’s go on an adventure’. I added some ‘You Rock’ tiny word stickers, and some more enamel dots. The staples added with my tiny attacher add a nice detail and textural element to the page.

The final cluster is on the bottom left corner. On this cluster I added a small amount of journaling that I typed on my typewriter. I felt this page didn’t need too much detail in the journaling so it was kept very short. I added a rubber charm from the ‘You Rock’ collection as the blue tones were a perfect match. To ground the whole layout due to how much of the layout was sitting on the top third of the page I decided to add the printed branding strip along the bottom, helping to balance the layout.

I hope you have enjoyed my post today and been inspired by my layout. Did you manage to snap up one of the mini collections? Don’t forget to tag #cocoavanilla studio on instagram or share your layout in our Facebook community

Don’t dull your Sparkle | One in a Million | Michelle Stokes

By | 2017-09-22T17:58:37+00:00 September 25th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Limited Edition|

Hi Scrappy Friends! It’s Michelle back here today with a new layout share featuring one of our sweet new Limited edition collections – One in a Million. The colours within this collection are so soft and very pretty, and worked so well with this hilarious photo of Leila from a few weeks back.

This child of mine is completely crazy, all kinds of hilarious and so much fun! Her latest craze is running around the house with a set of her Dad’s ear muffs on for no particular reason other than to make us laugh. So much laughter.

To create a layout to best represent the photo and its subject, I went a little crazy myself with banners and flags and layers and stuff. Starting with strips of almost all the papers within the collection kit, thick, thin, long and short plus pieces from the Cut apart sheet. So many layers and probably too many details added, but it was a fun creation that came together in no time.

Once I worked out the placement of all the banner pieces, I strung some twine across the tops added some loops and adhered with staples. I tucked in pieces of ephemera and added some sticky dots for dimension to corners of the banners. I even added some fussy cut butterflies and a flair button from the kit.

Ive used the 3×4 card “Don’t let anyone ever dull your sparkle” as the title as it’s exactly how I feel about this girl. I hope she’s always as fun as she is today, and that no one ever makes her dull her ‘sparkle’. Thats what makes her who she is.

I added in the heart to balance out the pink tones across the page and to add a different element other than a banner

Lastly some handwritten journalling and a mini cluster at the bottom of the layout and I called it done.

So many fun pieces within this collection. If you managed to score one before they sold out, please be sure to share what you make with us!

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope this has given you some inspiration to get a little crazy with banners!

Until next time, Happy Scrapping

Love You | One in a Million Layout | Raquel Bowman

By | 2017-09-21T00:34:23+00:00 September 21st, 2017|Cut Files, Design Team, Inspiration, Limited Edition|

Hey everyone, its Raquel here with you today sharing my latest layout using the limited edition mini collection kit ‘One in a Million’ which is unfortunately now sold out in the CVS store. The theme on the blog this week is hearts and flowers so I have also featured the Colour me Happy cut files on this layout too.

Here is the layout I created:

Here is a process video for how this layout came together:

As you can see I have opted to create an 8.5×11″ layout. I have recently started experimenting with this size and am loving the change. The focus of the layout is a photo that I took of my kiddies just before Fathers Day. I wanted to get a photo of the kids together holding up the sign ‘Best Daddy Ever’ which I could then frame for my husband and give as a gift on Fathers Day. I decided that because this layout was essentially about their love for their dad I could add the flowers, hearts and pinks in; all the things we may think of when we think of love.

The heart cut file and blue banner piece are the main focal point which help draw your eyes to the photo. I backed the heart on the soft pink floral patterned paper. Because I have used a white card stock base I wanted to frame the layout in a coordinating paper. I chose the gorgeous grey and white spot which adds a nice soft touch to the layout while also providing some contrast.

I added clusters of layered embellishments to either side of the photo. I added a floral die cut from the cut file set and pink and red ephemera flowers. I love the pop that the red flowers bring to the page. To finish off that cluster I added a cute bow from the Love Always bits and pieces pack, the ‘xo’ from the Love Always veneer, and some enamel dots from older collections.

For the cluster on the right side of the photo I used the same products as well as a cute little banner attached to the top of the photo with a staple and secured again with a peg, also from the Bits and Pieces pack from Love Always.

Of course I had to add a layer of patterned paper and a doily behind my photo.

Although the layout has a row of horizontal embellishing either side of the photo I still consider this layout to be very much a vertical design. Below the blue banner I add the title which is ‘Love you’ again from the Love Always wood veneer pack. To finish the layout I add a small bit of journaling on a tab from the cut apart sheet and smaller embellishments like the button and enamel dots. I love those finishing touches.

I hope that you have been inspired by my post today. Don’t forget, if you have any questions about anything you see here, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments or contact me via social media.

Thanks for stopping by xxx

So exciting! | Limited edition Page Kits | Raquel Bowman

By | 2016-10-04T22:51:21+00:00 October 5th, 2016|Design Team, Free Spirit, Limited Edition, Page Kits|

Hey everyone, Raquel here today with a little bit of a reminiscing post for you all and some exciting news. Today my little girl turns 4! I can hardly believe that four years have passed since she was born! Boy, time has flown. I thought it was only fitting to share a couple of pages featuring and celebrating her and todays post also mentions something new to have hit the CVS store last month.

Did you see the exciting news that limited edition Page Kits and flair have just hit the Cocoa Vanilla Store? Both the flair and the classes were created exclusively for the Brisbane Scrapbook expo however due to the popularity of the classes and products, they have been made available in the Cocoa Vanilla Store just for you to purchase. How cool is that!?!

Two of the available Page Kits are double page classes designed by me using two of the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla collections.

Here is the Page Kit I wanted to share with you today, which features the Free Spirit collection. In the Page kits you get everything you need to create the two pages and let me tell you these kits are jam packed. You will definitely have plenty of product left over to create a few pages all of your own later!

Here is a little glimpse at one of the pages that is in the kit. The Free Spirit collection sure does compliment this sequence of photos of my princess well. The ephemera that I was able to layer and cluster gave me the chance to make this layout sweet and playful.

You not only get papers from the collection but also wood buttons, ephemera and enamel dots! The perfect trio of embellishments I say.

happyandfab-2

Its no secret that I love to add layers and dimension to my pages. The full printed instructions that you receive will explain in plenty of detail how to achieve this.

The second page is a single photo layout which has a bit of a diagonal design. For this page you will learn to use a common tool you probably have at home to create a feature on the page. You will also be provided with the most beautiful and intricate cut files, which yep! have already been cut out for you!

freesirit-xoxo

The bonus of this class as I mentioned, is that you get the pre-cut cut file all ready for you to use. This means that you could try before you buy in terms of the cut files available in store, or even try using the cut files before you may purchase your own electronic die cutting machine. Maybe you have been on the fence and wonder what cut files are like to work with?

Here’s another close up look into the second page in the Page kit. Again, it will come with a full set of detailed instructions. Pretty cool hey!

freespirit-xoxo

I was so excited to share a little bit more info about the kits designed by me available in the store. They are limited in number, so if you may be after one I would check them out!

But for now my cherubs and I are off to eat cake and celebrate! Have a lovely day everyone
