The Best Christmas | Mix & Match | Missy Whidden

Hello there, and Happy Sunday!  Missy here, and I have a festive holiday layout to share today using non-holiday papers & embellishments.  I had lots of fun making this one!  I started with this beautiful tree cut file, which I cut on white cardstock.  I pulled several papers from various Cocoa Vanilla collections to back all those scalloped shapes.  I went for a pink, peach and light blue color scheme, and I think it turned out really pretty.  I pulled papers from Bohemian Dream, Hello Lovely, Wild at Heart, Hello Sunshine, Make a Wish and Life is Beautiful.  I went light on embellishments to let the photo and the tree stand out.

After backing the tree, I ran it through my sewing machine and stitched along each row using gold metallic thread.  I used white cardstock as my background and used lots of Gold Color Shine as well as some pink and blue Shimmerz sprays.  I used the plastic packaging technique and added lots of splatters.  Here you can see my journaling along the bottom row, which I wrote in gold.  I added some word and phrase stickers from the Bohemian Dream Accent Sticker Sheet as well as some enamel dots.  They remind me of little lights on the tree!

I mixed and matched my title using some Hello Lovely alpha stickers and some Hello Sunshine Puffy Stickers.  The Hello Lovely stickers are a wood color, but I painted some Gold Color Shine over them to make them sparkle.  I used a few Bohemian Dream Chipboard Stickers as well as a Life is Beautiful sticker.

I used a bit of blue paper behind my photo as well as some tissue paper and adhesive foam.  I stamped my date at the top instead of the bottom on this page.

I colored the star at the top gold, and I love how subtle it looks.  It was a lot of fun backing this cut file because I got to use so many papers from so many collections!

I think of birds when I think of Christmas, and instead of red birds I used these darling pink ones.  They’re from Bohemian Dream.  I cut one from a sticker and the bigger one is chipboard.  I love using non-traditional colors for Christmas pages!

I hope this inspires you to create a Christmas or holiday layout using products not made for holidays.  It was a fun challenge, and I love how it turned out.  I have a video here if you’d like to check out the process of this layout.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!

THE SLEEPY KITTY | ENDLESS SUMMER | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2017-08-14T21:49:19+00:00 August 18th, 2017|Design Team, Endless Summer, Inspiration, Life Is Beautiful|

Hi Creative Friends,

Gwen with you on the blog today and this week our focus is on creating with multiple photos.  Generally, I prefer to scrap one photo per page so it was fun to mix things up a bit and include more than one.  I had these 2 cute pics of my kitty Ferris and thought they would be perfect.  I seriously think this cat sleeps all day, it’s quite the life don’t you think!

The design for this page started with the photos which I knew I wanted to print smaller than usual.  These are 3 inches x 3 inches.  I would definitely recommend working with smaller prints if you are used to only using one photo at a time.  I also knew I wanted to create a bold title, another reason for printing smaller than usual as I knew my title would fill up quite a bit of space on the page.  I have used my Silhouette to cut the title from a plain piece of card stock, then I went about mounting it with the Sunbleached paper, I just love the ombre on this one, I didn’t want a pattern in my background here, I wanted something very simple and this paper was perfect.

Next, it was time to get about hand stitching.  I punched small holes around the edge of the letters and then hand stitched using embroidery thread.  I like to leave a small white space between the edge of the letters and my stitching so that it looks more like an outline rather than sitting directly on the edge.

I then also mounted this piece of white cardstock onto the Sweet Treats paper – just so that a small strip was showing at the top and a slightly larger one down the bottom.  I also added stitching with my machine around the edge at this point.

Now was the time to place my photos and add my embellishment clusters.  I wanted the design to be somewhat symmetrical, so I placed one photo under the title on the left and the other above the title on the right.  I have mounted these using the striped side of the Coastal Chill paper and the lightest part of the Sunbleached paper.  Next, I added the cute floral pieces from the accessory stickers sheet.  I know it’s extravagant to use the 2 floral pieces from 2 separate sheets, but I had them there and I really wanted that part of the design to balance.

It was now time to finish off my title, I’ve done this with the Alphabet stickers.  I pulled out the green letters on the sheet to help balance out the small green details from the flower clusters.  There was already a lot of the warm peach tones, so I didn’t want to add to them, I wanted something to break them up a little.  With such a big title, I wanted to keep the other elements on the page quite simple so I have just added a few wood veneer elements, these ones are from the Life is Beautiful collection and some sticker hearts also from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

Lastly, I added some cute enamel elements from the Enamel Shapes pack and the layout was done.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope you have enjoyed seeing how this one came together and I’d love to see your pages using more than one photo; so be sure to share them in the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Community, we do really love seeing your creations!

Until next time,

Gwen

So glad we’re family | Anna Komenda

Hello everyone. How are you doing? It’s Monday, time to start new week. I am counting down to my French vacation. Only 10 more days to go 😀 I am still working at my desk creating projects with my favorite CVS products. It’s a multi photo week here at Cocoa Vanilla blog so I made a layout with two pictures of my lovely daughter. I also cut a big title “So glad we’re family” because I am really proud mom of my two girls. They are two best things in my life.

I didn’t have a plan for this page. First I thought I will use “Make a wish” collection because it’s colors matches my pictures. I chose paper “Hip hooray” with navy stripes for my background and “Party dots” for the title. After I had my base, title and pictures ready I noticed that I used up almost all my “Make a wish” embellishments. So I went for a hunt and looked through some older collections for matching elements, especially flowers.

I found the oldest CVS embellishments – stickers from “Sugar and spice” collection. I used all the flowers and some other small elements. I still have some more to use for the future 🙂

I also fussy cut some flowers from one of my favorite papers “In bloom” from “Life is beautiful” collection. “Make a wish” chipboard stickers were a perfect match too.

Hello sunshineflair button and woodies matched my page perfectly too.

I love digging in my CVS stash searching for matching elements and mixing up the collections. I am rediscovering them and the possibilities they give. I hope you like my page and it inspires you to dust the older scrappy stuff to play with.

Thank you for stopping by and see you in two weeks.

Love That Smile | Mix & Match | Missy Whidden

By | 2017-07-24T03:28:52+00:00 July 24th, 2017|Cut Files, Design Team, Inspiration, Life Is Beautiful, Make A Wish, You ROCK|

Happy Monday, friends!  Missy here, and I have a fun layout to share today.  I mixed and matched a few collections for this including You Rock, Life is Beautiful and Make a Wish.  I started with the beautiful wood grain paper from You Rock.  I wanted to add lots of bright colors to it, so I pulled some papers from the three collections and cut several XOs in different sizes.  You can find the XO cut file in the store with the Colour Me Happy collection.  I chose four photos to go horizontally across the page.  I arranged the XOs in a vertical design behind them.  I used some acrylic paints and in sprays on the background and embellished with flair buttons, die cuts, wood veneer and stickers.

I love how all of these die cuts created such awesome dimension and texture here.  I overlapped them and added in some tangled thread and a few fussy cut flowers.  I didn’t want to cover up to much of the die cuts, so I added just a few embellishments.  The Flair Button is from Make a Wish, the Wood Veneer is from You Rock, and the banner piece is a Life is Beautiful Ephemera piece.

I added a Life is Beautiful Wood Veneer word and a few die cut flowers here. I think these bright colors really make the black & white photos stand out.

I think my favorite part about the XO cut file is that it’s lined so you can see through it.  You can still see the background through them, and I love that effect.  I added in some light coral thread here to match the XO above the photos.

Here’s another look at the top of the layout.  I added in a few more pieces from Life is Beautiful.  I didn’t completely glue the XOs down all the way.  I wanted the edges to pop off the page to create some depth.

I tucked the first photo under the X here to keep a pop of the blue in that area.  I didn’t want to completely cover it up since that is the boldest color.  I added a few label stickers under the end photos.

For my title and center piece, I used this Accessory Sticker from Make a Wish.

It was a lot of fun mixing and matching collections for this!  I hope it inspires you to do the same and perhaps work a fun cut file into the mix.  I do have a process video if you’d like to check it out here.

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  Have a fantastic week, friends!

Hello everyone. Welcome in another post in our “Scrap lift week”. This time it was my turn to choose one from many fantastic pages created by CVS team and scrap lift it. I struggled a lot because I wanted to scrap lift at least 10 pages (and I probably will do in the future 🙂 ). I finally decided to go crazy with large photo and I chose page created by talented Ulrike Dold.

This is my version:

And here is a beautiful page of Ulrike.

I decided to keep it as much similar as possible. I used big picture, various paper strips, wood veneer title and small embellishments here and there. I slightly changed the color scheme from pink to pink-blue-orange. It was such a great pleasure and fun to scrap lift this page.

You all know how easy it is to combine few CVS collections in one project. And it’s exactly what I did here. I picked some pink and blue papers from various collections and added few pattern papers. I dived into “Hello lovely“, “Love always” and “Make a wish” collections I picked few papers. I combine them in triangular shapes and sew them with sewing machine.

I also created a wood veneer title. Word HEART is from “Wild at heart” wood veneers set and word SWEET is from “Love always” wood veneers set.

I also gathered matching stickers and other embellishments. You can spy cute deer from button set from “Free spirit” collection along with paper flowers from “Hello lovely” collection. I also used few puffy stickers from “Make a wish” and mix of enamel dots.

I rarely use big pictures but working with them is such a different experience. You can’t add too much of embellishments and papers because the picture is a main focus of the page. I really like creating this way I will for sure try to use more of big photos.

Stars, splashes and some dimensional elements like rubber charms and chipboard stickers are like a cherry on the top of this page. I love the final result.

Thank You for stopping by and see You in two weeks.

Spring Snap Shots | Life is Beautiful | Missy Whidden

By | 2017-04-10T03:27:15+00:00 April 10th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Life Is Beautiful|

Hey there, friends!  Missy here, and I’m sharing a layout today using the gorgeous Life is Beautiful collection.  Our theme this week is Spring, so I decided to bring my vision of that to life.  I started with a cut file from The Cut Shoppe and created a really big title.  I used papers from the collection to back each of the letters, and then I added some foam adhesive under it to pop it off the page.  I used plain white cardstock as my background, and I created lots of blue watercolor areas under the cut file title.  My photos are of my daughter running and dancing around outside during April, and they matched this collection perfectly!  The blue watercolor creates a bit of a sky, and the other colors look so pretty up against it.

Here you can see how adding the foam really gives the title lots of dimension and shadowing.  I added the word “Spring” here on top of the title, and I cut that on my Cameo using the Shoreline font.  I layered in one of the large floral die cuts from the Die Cut Ephemera here.  They really scream Spring, and I love how they look peeking out from the letters.  I also added in an adorable flair button.

I tucked in more flowers down at the bottom.  I used another flower die cut and a wood veneer flower and leaf set.  I love the neutral look of the wood, so I didn’t color it.  I also added some blue tangled thread for some extra texture and color.  I also fussy cut a few darker blue flowers from the In Bloom paper.

Butterflies remind me of Spring, too, so I added a few wood veneer pieces.  I created another little floral cluster here at the top.

Finally, here’s a look at the bottom of the layout.  I added my journaling and a sticker from the Accessories sheet, which I machine stitched through.  I really love how the stitching adds such great texture.

Here’s the process video if you’d like to see how this layout came together.  I hope you enjoy and get some fun ideas to try for your next project!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Hello Beautiful | Life is Beautiful | Tarrah McLean

By | 2016-12-31T13:02:27+00:00 January 2nd, 2017|Cut Files, Design Team, Inspiration, Life Is Beautiful|

HAPPY NEW YEAR Cocoa Vanilla fans!

It’s Tarrah McLean with you and today I have a new layout to share where I have revisited one of the older but beautiful collections – Life is Beautiful!

I have my gorgeous 18 month old niece and her Mum and Dad currently staying with me from England…of course I am taking loads of photos of my niece so what better way to document her by using the gorgeous Life Is Beautiful collection.

hello-beautiful

The background paper I decided to use was a little bit busy so I found a circular cut file to use and backed it with the plainer blue paper, I then machine stitched around the entire edge for some extra texture. I like how this now takes away some of the busyness. I used pop dots under the backed cut file to lift it up off the page. This cut file has some floral pieces attached to it at the bottom, you can see little bits of the floral parts mixed in with all the fussy cutting and ephemera pieces I added at the bottom!

I used the gorgeous Life is Beautiful wood veneer, enamel dots, flair, stickers and Little Pretties to embellish my layout.

The journal card was the perfect addition to my page, I typed my journaling on the computer and printed it out on the journal card and adhered it beside my photo.

The journaling describes my niece perfectly!!

Thank you so much for stopping by the Cocoa Vanilla blog today!

HAPPY NEW YEAR again…..celebrate in style and best wishes to you for a healthy and happy one!
