Hey crafty friends!

Mandy here today to share a fun festive layout with you! For the next two weeks, the design team are all going to be sharing Christmas projects using non-Christmas themed products! It’s going to be awesome to see what everyone comes up with! I’m kicking it off today, so for my layout, I decided to combine quite a few different CVS collections to create a fresh and vibrant colour palette. Here’s what I came up with…

I documented a photo of my little nephew Jude on this layout. Last year was his very first Christmas, so it was a particularly special Christmas for our family! He looked so adorable with his little Santa hat on!

I wanted to have a large feature title on this layout so that I could include lots of the beautiful CVS patterned papers. I chose a cut file, and then backed each of the words using a variety of different patterned papers. Here’s a list of the papers that I used (from top to bottom)…

I LOVE how all of these patterned papers look together!

I added a couple of layers behind my photo using the Night Sky patterned paper from the You ROCK collection, as well as a frame from the Free Spirit Die Cut Ephemera pack. I also tucked a little tab from the Bohemian Dream Accessory Sticker sheet under the right hand side of the photo. I’ve been hoarding the gorgeous buttons from the Hello Sunshine collection for quite awhile, but I decided that it was time to pull them out and get them onto a layout! I added one on the left hand side of the photo, and two more around the layout the layout as well.

Up in the top left hand corner of the layout, I added a few embellishments from the ‘You ROCK’ collection, including a chipboard sticker, a wood veneer piece, and a star that I fussy cut from the Starshine patterned paper.

I created another little cluster to the left of the word ‘little’. This one includes a ‘Bohemian Dream’  flair button, another fussy cut star, and another little button from the ‘Hello Sunshine’ collection. I love how those stars add the perfect pop of red to the page!

The CVS little phrase stickers always add the perfect finishing touch to a layout! I used one that says ‘love this’, which was from the ‘Colour Me Happy’ Snip-Its pack.

To add some more interest to the page, I added a few puffy stars. These were from the Free Spirit’ puffy sticker pack, as well as the ‘Hello Sunshine’ one. I finished the layout off by adding a messy hand-drawn border around the page, and then lastly I added some black ink splatters.

Thanks so much for joining me on the blog today! Maybe you’ve been inspired to create a Christmas layout using non-Christmas themed products? Make sure you pop back in for lots more Christmas inspiration over the coming weeks!

Thankful For You | Hello Lovely | Ulrike Dold

By | 2017-11-16T07:45:11+00:00 November 26th, 2017|Design Team, Free Spirit, Hello Lovely, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hello everyone,

Ulli here with you today sharing a new Cocoa Vanilla DT layout with you.

This week we have the gratitude theme here at the Cocoa Vanilla Blog. Therefor I made a clean and simple layout with a picture from me and my little family. I am so thankful for having my beloved husband at my side and together we have two wonderful little kids.

I decided to use the pretty and super cute Hello Lovely collection because I love the color scheme from this collection so much.

First I typed up my small journaling with my typewriter at the top of my 8.5 x 11 inch white cardstock. I picked “Thankful for you” for my title and decided to create the title with a pink foam phrase sticker from my stash and the small wooden grain and aqua alphabet stickers from the Cocoa Vanilla Hello Lovely collection. I glued the word “Thankful” directly under my journaling and the other two words also beneath it. Then I stitched over the foam word with my sewing machine.

I cut out the little banner (Love this) from the Hello Lovely “Lucky Dip” paper and I used my stapler before I glued it beside the words with the alpha stickers. Under the title I added the little diamond from the Hello Lovely die cut ephemera.

Then I cut a wide paper stripe from the black and white striped “Life Story” paper and a small one from the pink “Delightful” paper. I glued the striped one on the bottom and the other over it. Then I stitched over the lower border from my layout with my sewing machine.

I splattered some gold paint across the page. After that I punched out my photo in the shape of a circle. Therefor I used a circle punch with the size of 2 inch. I glued the photo on the papers below in the middle of my layout because I love it when my layouts have a clear structure.

Then I glued the sticker with the three flowers from the Hello Lovely accessory stickers sheet on the right side next to my photo. I used foam dots to add my layout more dimension. On the middle of the biggest flower I added the woodie (FAB) from the Free Spirit collection.

I glued the floral border in aqua on the top of my layout and stitched over it. Then I glued the sticker with the stars on it – also with some foam dots.

I stamped the date with a roller stamp on my layout and wrote on the other side where the photo was taken. Then I finished off my layout with some enamel dots from the Hello Lovely and the You Rock collection here and there.

I hope you like my layout and had fun reading my post.

Till next time,

Ulli

Think pink layout | Anna Komenda

Pink or blue? That is not even a question for me. I am TEAM PINK for a long time. Not that I do not like blue but as a mom of two girls I am descent for pink. But seriously – who doesn’t like pink? Cocoa Vanilla Studio has so much to offer when it comes to pink papers and embellishments. That’s why I decided to mix few collection to create this very pink page.

I started with a sheet of watercolor paper and painted a circle using watercolor paints in different shades of pink. I also added few splashes here and there.

I didn’t want to cover my whole background with paper scraps so I decided to use (finally after so many years 🙂 ) my border punchers and make few fun stripes. You can spot a lot of different papers here like: “Sweet floral“, “Candy stripes“, “Dreamy“, “Frolic“, “Hip hooray“, “Party mix“, “Doodle dandy” and “Dreamer“. They are all from different collections but they have something in common – pink color.

With background as busy as mine I didn’t need much of embellishments. After all you don’t want to cover all that hard labor 😀 I chose two funny pictures of me taken with some animal filters (I always wanted to be a giraffe with glittery ears). I added a chipboard frame from “Love always” chipboard stickers sheet and surrounded it with flowers from “Bohemian dream” ephemera pack.

Few “Free spirit” puffy stickers along with glittery enamel dots were a perfect finishing touches. I created a title using white alpha stickers from “Color me happy” and a set of “Make a wish” alpha stickers.

I also have a process video for you:

That’s all for today. I hope you will join TEAM PINK too and you will create something covered with pink, glitter and all the cuteness of the world. See you in two weeks with some pretty “Bohemian dream” inspiration.

Always Shine | Free Spirit | Lauren Hender

Hello everyone and a BIG welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog.

I know you are all going crazy about the new Bohemian Dream collection hitting stores well the exciting news is that the Desgin Team now are busy creating with it to provide you with lots of inspiration. BUT..before all that happens I want to share with you a sweet layout using the stunning Free Spirit collection.

This layout is of me and my handsome hubby in New Zealand. Our first overseas holiday together and we loved every minute.

When creating this layout I really wanted to make sure the photo popped off the page. That is where the idea of the two diamond borders came to mind. By doing this I was able to highlight the photo and the title ‘Always Shine’.

I began this layout by applying a light coat of watercolor to the page. I just wanted to soften the edges a little and achieve a bit of a transition from the cardstock to the cluster of embellishments.

Starting with two doilies I then mounted one of the cut aparts cards and my photo underneath two frames from the ephemera pack. Just these few simple steps left me thinking ‘oh yeah this is coming together’.

Now for the fun part… putting all the embellishments on.

I began with the title using a puffy word sticker and an ephemera piece. I then added clusters to the left and right side of the doilies and top and bottom between the frames.

So lets go shopping..

Free Spirit Die Cut Ephemera

Free Spirit Accessory Stickers

Free Spirit Wood Veneers

Free Spirit Flair Buttons

Free Spirit Enamel Shapes

I hope my layout has inspired you to be creative.

Hot air balloon frame | Wild at heart | Anna Komenda

By | 2017-09-24T23:09:51+00:00 September 28th, 2017|Design Team, Free Spirit, Inspiration, Uncategorized, Wild at Heart|

Hello CVS fans. It’s Anna here with some fun project created with “Wild at heart” collection.

If I would have to choose my favourite craft tool it would be a Silhouette Cameo for sure. I love how versatile it is and how helpful and inspiring the cut outs can be. Project I want to share with you today is one of those inspired by the cut file. I found this fun hot air balloon box and I thought that it would look great as a frame too. I oversized it and used Cameo to cut it out.

First step was creating a base for my frame – hot air balloon. I used three papers from WAH collection to decorate it: Double dot, Grow wild, Patchwork.

After my balloon base was ready I started decorating it using all the WAH goodies.

I used a picture of me and my cute family and glues it to the balloon using cardboard pieces to add dimension. I picked few flowers from ephemera pack and placed them behind the picture. I fussy cut few butterflies from ‘Mariposa” paper and added them to my composition. I also picked some paper flowers from previous collections and spreaded them all over the balloon.

Wood veneers from “Love always” collection were a perfect match with this project.  I wanted to use this big heart for a while and I finally found a great spot to use it. I also added few flair buttons from “Wild at heart”.

I had to fill the basket of the balloon with some beach rocks because it lost the stability. This is one thing I haven’t thought of before I started adding all those layers 😀

I finished my project using rubber charms and puffy stickers from “Free spirit” collection.

I hope you like my project. It was really fun to make something else than layout. And it looks really nice on my shelf 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and see you in two weeks with some boy themed page.

HAPPY LITTLE MOMENTS | MAKE A WISH | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2017-09-16T18:06:28+00:00 September 18th, 2017|Design Team, Free Spirit, Hello Lovely, Inspiration, Make A Wish|

Hi Creative Friends,

Gwen, back today for another layout to share.  This week on the blog the DT are focusing on Hearts and Flowers!  You will all know this was NOT a challenge at all for me as I adore working with both!  I started with this cute selfie taken by Miss 10 of herself and the cat, there is nothing quite like finding gems like these on your phone, I so adore them!

The inspiration for this page began with the cut file from Paper Issues.  As my photo was a little grainy, I knew it would have to stay quite small in size so I thought I’d go for a large cut file element to fill in the remainder of the page.  I also knew at this point I wanted to use the bright pink, green and yellow tones in the Fresh Cut paper from the Make A Wish Collection as my inspiration.

I don’t actually end up using a lot of this paper, however, it really was my starting point for the page. There are so many times where I’m not sure to start and pretty products like these always get me inspired!

I started by backing the three flowers in my cut file with this paper and the leaves as well, with the Party Dots paper.  I also used these 2 papers as the mount for my photo.  I also wanted to pull out floral elements from the die cut ephemera as well as the vellum accents pack.  Both of these packs have so many pretty floral elements, I knew they would all be a perfect fit!!  I also now took the time to fussy cut out a few of the yellow and pink flowers from the Fresh Cut paper.

Now was the time for some fun!  I simply went about adding floral elements in between and over the top of the cut file piece.  I was going for a floral explosion here!  I also found this pretty little vellum piece in the vellum accents pack and thought it would be a very sweet title, I’ve just hand stitched it onto a circle of white cardstock and placed it in the center of the middle flower.

You can see here my photo mat and some of the die cut pieces.  The paper flower is part of the Hello Sunshine Collection – shop them here.

Now was the time to think about adding some hearts for the “heart” part of the challenge… I had certainly covered flowers at this point 🙂

I went with the Free Spirit Resin hearts and Life is Beautiful Wood Veneer hearts, I just love how all of the Cocoa Vanilla collections work so well together and they were a really nice finishing touch.   I have also added in a wood veneer butterfly from this same pack to pull together the die cut butterflies I have added.

I really loved the page at this point, but felt it was missing something… it was still very white on white and needed a little more contrast.  So I decided to add a little more stitching.  Well, a lot more stitching actually!  I had already added some for the circle title element, so it made sense to add some more around that floral piece.  Then I added more on the leaves and a few other floral elements in pink, green and yellow….  the 3 colours that started it all in the first place!

Lastly, I added a few sequins for some sparkle and the page was done!  This one did take a while with all the stitching and lots and lots of small elements, but I am super happy with how it turned out, I think it was worth it!

Thanks for popping by today

Until next time

Gwen

Forever In My Heart | Wild At Heart & Endless Summer | Ulrike Dold

By | 2017-08-22T06:28:18+00:00 August 26th, 2017|Colour Me Happy, Design Team, Endless Summer, Free Spirit, Hello Lovely, Inspiration, Make A Wish, Wild at Heart, You ROCK|

Hello everyone,

Ulli here with you today sharing a new layout I made for the „All About Color“ theme this week.

I love colors, but I often scrap using a limited color palette, so I struggled with this challenge at first. But sometimes you just need a little bit of time to think and develop a concept.

Eventually I came up with the idea of creating a large circle in rainbow colors on a 12×12 page. For this I wanted to use only cardstock that I water colored myself, paired with lots of Cocoa Vanilla embellishments.

First I took my water color pencils and added a bit of yellow, orange, pink, blue and green on a white card stock (in different areas so the colors wouldn’t mix). I then added a bit of water to the colors with a paint brush and waited until all of it dried. I chose various floral craft dies and die cut them with my Big Shot.

My starting point was a small black and white photo that was taken on our holiday on Kuramathi Island in the Maldives in May 2012. I decorated it with die cuts, rubber charms and some water colored leaves in my favorite color, pink.

I then completed my circle from right to left with orange, yellow, green and blue and ended up with pink again.

I used several Cocoa Vanilla collections to create this colorful circle: Wild at Heart, Hello Lovely, You Rock, Endless Summer, Colour Me Happy, Free Spirit and Make A Wish. It was so much fun to use the ephemera die cuts, woodies, enamel dots, stickers, rubber charms, paper flowers and all the other beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Embellishments! And of course I used my water colored leaves and flowers too. Often I glued die cuts on glue dots to give them some dimension. I also added a few smaller items from my stash – especially in yellow, because I didn’t have enough embellishments.

For my title I chose the „Forever In My Heart“ die cut from the Wild At Heart collection and placed it below my photo.

In the end I splattered some gold and black paint across the page. To finish it off I stamped the date with a roller stamp next to my photo on the left side.

I hope you like my layout and had fun reading my post!

Till next time,

Ulli
