Hello everyone and a BIG welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog.
I know you are all going crazy about the new Bohemian Dream collection hitting stores well the exciting news is that the Desgin Team now are busy creating with it to provide you with lots of inspiration. BUT..before all that happens I want to share with you a sweet layout using the stunning Free Spirit collection.
This layout is of me and my handsome hubby in New Zealand. Our first overseas holiday together and we loved every minute.
When creating this layout I really wanted to make sure the photo popped off the page. That is where the idea of the two diamond borders came to mind. By doing this I was able to highlight the photo and the title ‘Always Shine’.
I began this layout by applying a light coat of watercolor to the page. I just wanted to soften the edges a little and achieve a bit of a transition from the cardstock to the cluster of embellishments.
Starting with two doilies I then mounted one of the cut aparts cards and my photo underneath two frames from the ephemera pack. Just these few simple steps left me thinking ‘oh yeah this is coming together’.
Now for the fun part… putting all the embellishments on.
I began with the title using a puffy word sticker and an ephemera piece. I then added clusters to the left and right side of the doilies and top and bottom between the frames.
If I would have to choose my favourite craft tool it would be a Silhouette Cameo for sure. I love how versatile it is and how helpful and inspiring the cut outs can be. Project I want to share with you today is one of those inspired by the cut file. I found this fun hot air balloon box and I thought that it would look great as a frame too. I oversized it and used Cameo to cut it out.
First step was creating a base for my frame – hot air balloon. I used three papers from WAH collection to decorate it: Double dot, Grow wild, Patchwork.
After my balloon base was ready I started decorating it using all the WAH goodies.
I used a picture of me and my cute family and glues it to the balloon using cardboard pieces to add dimension. I picked few flowers from ephemera pack and placed them behind the picture. I fussy cut few butterflies from ‘Mariposa” paper and added them to my composition. I also picked some paper flowers from previous collections and spreaded them all over the balloon.
Gwen, back today for another layout to share. This week on the blog the DT are focusing on Hearts and Flowers! You will all know this was NOT a challenge at all for me as I adore working with both! I started with this cute selfie taken by Miss 10 of herself and the cat, there is nothing quite like finding gems like these on your phone, I so adore them!
The inspiration for this page began with the cut file from Paper Issues. As my photo was a little grainy, I knew it would have to stay quite small in size so I thought I’d go for a large cut file element to fill in the remainder of the page. I also knew at this point I wanted to use the bright pink, green and yellow tones in the Fresh Cut paper from the Make A Wish Collection as my inspiration.
I don’t actually end up using a lot of this paper, however, it really was my starting point for the page. There are so many times where I’m not sure to start and pretty products like these always get me inspired!
I started by backing the three flowers in my cut file with this paper and the leaves as well, with the Party Dots paper. I also used these 2 papers as the mount for my photo. I also wanted to pull out floral elements from the die cut ephemera as well as the vellum accents pack. Both of these packs have so many pretty floral elements, I knew they would all be a perfect fit!! I also now took the time to fussy cut out a few of the yellow and pink flowers from the Fresh Cut paper.
Now was the time for some fun! I simply went about adding floral elements in between and over the top of the cut file piece. I was going for a floral explosion here! I also found this pretty little vellum piece in the vellum accents pack and thought it would be a very sweet title, I’ve just hand stitched it onto a circle of white cardstock and placed it in the center of the middle flower.
You can see here my photo mat and some of the die cut pieces. The paper flower is part of the Hello Sunshine Collection – shop them here.
Now was the time to think about adding some hearts for the “heart” part of the challenge… I had certainly covered flowers at this point 🙂
I went with the Free Spirit Resin hearts and Life is Beautiful Wood Veneer hearts, I just love how all of the Cocoa Vanilla collections work so well together and they were a really nice finishing touch. I have also added in a wood veneer butterfly from this same pack to pull together the die cut butterflies I have added.
I really loved the page at this point, but felt it was missing something… it was still very white on white and needed a little more contrast. So I decided to add a little more stitching. Well, a lot more stitching actually! I had already added some for the circle title element, so it made sense to add some more around that floral piece. Then I added more on the leaves and a few other floral elements in pink, green and yellow…. the 3 colours that started it all in the first place!
Lastly, I added a few sequins for some sparkle and the page was done! This one did take a while with all the stitching and lots and lots of small elements, but I am super happy with how it turned out, I think it was worth it!
Ulli here with you today sharing a new layout I made for the „All About Color“ theme this week.
I love colors, but I often scrap using a limited color palette, so I struggled with this challenge at first. But sometimes you just need a little bit of time to think and develop a concept.
Eventually I came up with the idea of creating a large circle in rainbow colors on a 12×12 page. For this I wanted to use only cardstock that I water colored myself, paired with lots of Cocoa Vanilla embellishments.
First I took my water color pencils and added a bit of yellow, orange, pink, blue and green on a white card stock (in different areas so the colors wouldn’t mix). I then added a bit of water to the colors with a paint brush and waited until all of it dried. I chose various floral craft dies and die cut them with my Big Shot.
My starting point was a small black and white photo that was taken on our holiday on Kuramathi Island in the Maldives in May 2012. I decorated it with die cuts, rubber charms and some water colored leaves in my favorite color, pink.
I then completed my circle from right to left with orange, yellow, green and blue and ended up with pink again.
I used several Cocoa Vanilla collections to create this colorful circle: Wild at Heart, Hello Lovely, You Rock, Endless Summer, Colour Me Happy, Free Spirit and Make A Wish. It was so much fun to use the ephemera die cuts, woodies, enamel dots, stickers, rubber charms, paper flowers and all the other beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Embellishments! And of course I used my water colored leaves and flowers too. Often I glued die cuts on glue dots to give them some dimension. I also added a few smaller items from my stash – especially in yellow, because I didn’t have enough embellishments.
For my title I chose the „Forever In My Heart“ die cut from the Wild At Heart collection and placed it below my photo.
In the end I splattered some gold and black paint across the page. To finish it off I stamped the date with a roller stamp next to my photo on the left side.
I hope you like my layout and had fun reading my post!
Good Morning Friends!
Today, I’m sharing a fun layout with you that I created with the lovely Free Spirit collection. This week on the blog the focus is to use multiple photos on your layout. I thought these two pictures of my littlest little were totally scrap-worthy using both the theme and collection.
Here’s my layout…
I couldn’t decide what navy and white patterned paper I wanted to use for my background, so I used two. LOL! I cut the smaller polka dot paper down a bit and layered it on top of the magnificent floral paper leaving a border only on the right side. Love the effect of this!
Next, I knew I wanted to play with colour, and that I did! I used the bright pinks and corals of the collection paired with the aquas and navy. It’s a combo made in heaven! The colours seem to pop off the navy and white background.
I matted both photos as one photo. I didn’t separate and give them two separate mattings. However, I did pop both photos onto foam for dimension giving the photo on the right an extra layer of foam. I did this for two reasons; Firstly because I wanted the photo on the right to stand out a bit more. And secondly, I was able to tilt the second picture slightly without the photo on the right interfering with the positioning. Hope that makes sense.
Moving on to embellishing and creating clusters, I pulled out the Die Cut Ephemera pack and went to town pulling my favourite pieces that I thought would work with the layout. I didn’t mean to use florals but look… I did! Oops! 😉 But seriously, how could I resist? They worked so well especially considering in the photos my babe is wearing a floral top! LOL!
I continued embellishing and creating clusters with the Puffy Stickers, Woodies and the Accessory Stickers.
The title itself is created with words from the Die Cut package, Shine So Bright in the cutest font ever!
Here you can see the dimension the foam sheet gives under the photos. The one on the right has a double layer of foam and so is elevated from the second on the left.
That’s it for me today. I hope you enjoyed my layout for today. Until next time, have a wonderful day!
Ulli here with you today sharing a new layout with you.
I am totally in summer mood and so I made a 8.5×11 layout with a photo from our kids in our vacation at Crete / Greece in May. They look so happy on this picture at the pool which I made with my smartphone.
I used the new and amazing free and summer themed cut files which you can find on the Cocoa Vanilla website. They are so cute and the waves are a perfect match to my photo.
In my photo there is so much navy and orange and so I first searched for some pretty Cocoa Vanilla papers which matches perfectly. I used the coral-white stripped paper “Fussy Cut” from the Wild at Heart collection and the “Starshine” paper from the new and awesome You Rock collection. Then I cut some waves with this papers and also with white cardstock.
I glued a coral wave on the top of the layout and stitched over it with my sewing machine. Then I glued 3 waves (in coral, navy and white) on the bottom of the layout and the picture behind the upper wave. I also stitched over every wave with my sewing machine and white sewing thread.
I splattered some gold and black paint across the page and placed the title above and under my photo. For the title I used the “Beautiful” Chipboard Sticker from the Wild at Heart collection and some white foam alphas from my stash. I placed a puffy heart sticker from the Free Spirit collection as the dot of the i.
After that I decorated my page with stickers and word stickers from the You Rock and the Wild at Heart collection and the puffy sticker “happy” from the Free Spirit collection. For some of the word stickers I used pop dots to add dimension.
I glued the “FAV” sticker from the Wild at Heart Accessory Sticker Sheet on the left side on the photo and a puffy sticker on the border from the picture.
To decorating the border with the wave above I used a circle sticker from the You Rock collection, an wooden shape anchor from the Endless Summer collection and a “&” woodie from the Free Spirit collection.
To finish off my page I stamped the date on my layout and decorated the whole page with enamel dots and a second woodie with a pineapple. This cute woodie is from the the free spirit collection.
I hope I could inspire you! Thanks so much for stopping by today!
This picture… this picture melts my heart! The two of them love each other so and I managed to snap a quick picture of the two mid cuddle. Both entertained by the iPad but loving each other none the less! It only lasted about 3.7 seconds, but I was quick enough to take this picture! Ha!
Let’s jump right in… I started the layout by cutting two triangles and adhering them to my background sheet. Creating a diagonal quadrants. Then, I sewed around the perimeter and down the sides of the triangles with my little sewing machine. I used plain white thread, I like this look best. The papers I used for the background are Dreamy and Wildflowers.
Next, you guessed it… matting of my photo. LOL! I guess I have a routine and order to the way I do things. Haha!
I chose a variety of papers in the collection for my matting. I think they were all scraps to be honest. I don’t think I cut into a new, whole sheet. Pretty impressive, right? I used the corally-orange border in the Accessory Stickers sheet as part of my layering behind my photo.
Working on my title, I fussy cut the word “happy” from one of the cut apart sheets. There is also a lower case one in the Die Cut Ephemera pack but I liked this one better. Well, truth is that I cut out the one from the die cut sheet first and then noticed the other one. It worked out well though because I wouldn’t have been able to arrange the letters the way I wanted with the pre-cut one since it was all one piece. For the rest of my title, I used the Alphabet Stickers and then sewed through them with my sewing machine.
To embellish, I used bit and pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack as well as some cuts from the cut apart sheet. I also used some Woodies, a Flair Button that I placed within a nest of mint thread and finished off with a sprinkling of Enamel Shapes. I have to admit that this layout is less embellished than my other layouts. It kinda felt nice to use less 😛
To add to my love of tiny words and phrases, I created my own by cutting out some of the type patterned paper from the collection. The wording was perfect!
Hope you liked my layout! Have a wonderful day!
