My Tornado | You Rock | Lauren Hender

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog. Today I am sharing with you a scraplift layout.

I always find these challenges fun and I try to push myself to scraplift a design that puts me out of my comfort zone.

The Cocoa Vanilla Studio community page on Facebook is a great place to hang out and find heaps of inspiring layouts to scraplift. Find the CVS Facebook community group HERE

I created this layout using the new YOU ROCK collection of my beautiful son who is now much bigger and still has a great love for basketball.

He is my little (now much bigger) tornado.

The layout I have scraplifted is created by the very talented Raquel Bowman. Isn’t her little girl such a dolly.

As you can see I have used a different collection to scrap with, a portrait instead of horizontal photo, and created a male layout instead of a female one. What this tells us is that no matter the layout, the scrapbooking products you have you can still scraplift a layout and it will still all come together.

Here are some close up of my layout for if you would like to have a go at scraplifting my and Raquel’s layout lol.

Tip Time: If you are a fan of buying the YOU ROCK collection kit (AU $29.95) then don’t throw away the sneak peek card displayed on the front of the kit. It perfectly mounted my 4×6 inch photo in this layout and highlighted a little sneak of the entire collection.

I hope my layout has inspired you to get creative and come on over to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog and scraplift your heart out.

Have a fabulous week.

Hello AWEsome | You ROCK | Amanda Baldwin

By | 2017-06-07T22:10:32+00:00 June 13th, 2017|Chit Chat, Design Team, Endless Summer, You ROCK|

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends & Fans!

Amanda here, and I am so excited to be sharing my latest layout with the new You ROCK collection! This week our Design Team assignment is to scraplift a fellow DT member’s layout (past or present) and I am delighted to be lifting the insanely talented, Anna Komenda!  For those of you who don’t know, I am an enormous fan of Anna’s unique style – she never ceases to amaze me! Here’s her original design that I am lifting today…..

“Summer Fun” by Anna Komenda

Absolutely stunning!!! You can see why I just LOVE Anna’s creating!

I am also a huge fan of vertical designs and thought this layout would be a ton of fun to scraplift. And, with it being Summer in the Northern Hemisphere right now – Anna’s layout is great inspiration! And, for my version, I am inspired by the cooler months in the Southern Hemisphere. But enough chatter, here’s my scraplift of Anna’s original,

“Hello AWEsome”

I absolutely adore how this turned out! You ROCK is such a perfect match for my Mr A for Awesome in the Autumn leaves! The colours in my photogrpah were just so perfectly balanced that it seemed a no brainer to draw upon them for my pattern paper choice! The warm, earthy and natural look of the reverse side of pattern paper CV-YR008 PLUS ONE (woodgrain) was always going to be my main feature paper, as were the Wood Veneer Shapes. The cool blues in my lil boy’s outfit and chucks had me grabbing at pattern paper CV-YR009 GALACTIC , as well as the blue highlighter tones from the awesome paper CV-YR004 STRIPPED. My final paper choice was CV-YR006 RANDOM – the reverse side coordinated with my son’s black & white cap, and the A side features that golden yellow, “You Rock” card. Perfection! All I really needed to do for this layout was embellish!

Let’s start with that Wood Veneer title….

The veneer shapes in You ROCK are SO much fun! I love that the AWE is capitalised in awesome – very cool! And just like Anna’s original, I’ve positioned my title vertically for big impact. Hello awesome, indeed!

Moving further up, you’ll spy that I have layered, and mounted, my You Rock journal card…..

It’s also embellsihed with that  BOOM Flair Button , a yellow Enamel Shape, a star Chipboard Accent Sticker & that incredible typewriter font Washi Tape Sticker! So many cool items here! I love the pops of yellow throughout my layout – they really create interest and coordinate with my colour palette so beautifully!

Let’s take a closer look at some more of those sweet yellow embellies…….

The layered stars are so much fun! Seriously, perfection!!!

I just love the tone of the yellow in You ROCK! It couldn’t be more on point!

How awesome are all the Die Cut Ephemera pieces too?!! That Happy Snaps camera had me from the moment I opened the packet, lol! And just like Anna’s design, I chose to use sentiment Accessory Stickers to lead your eye into my photograph. And Yes, he is officially amazing to us!!! 😉

Lots of decorative pieces adorning my photo too……

More camera goodness – could that veneer get any more adorable?!! And stars for my super star!

And there you have it!

My sweet Autumn take on Anna’s amazing Endless Summer design – I hope I did it justice! I’d love to know your thoughts!

Feeling inspired? Be sure to share your creations with us in the Official Cocoa Vanilla Studio Community group on Facebook, we love seeing what you’ve made too!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, til  next time,

Happy Arty Days, Amanda xo

Star of the Week | You Rock | Michelle Stokes

By | 2017-06-08T18:07:08+00:00 June 11th, 2017|Chit Chat, Design Team, You ROCK|

Hello fellow Scrappers, It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share featuring the awesome You Rock collection. This week on the blog we are focusing on scrap lifting again and I’ve challenged myself to scrap a layout Inspired by Missy. Now I’m no mixed media extraordinaire, so I’ve done my best by choosing products Inspired by her style to recreate the layout made.

Here’s the layout I’ve created, celebrating a new milestone for Leila at school – being awarded Star of the Week!!

Which was inspired by this creation by Missy…

I’ve followed along with a similar design concept by using a massive text cut file backed with pattern papers as the centrepiece of the layout. The cut file I’ve used is from The Cut Shoppe and is perfect for welding together to create large Titles. I’ve backed the entire piece with foam tape to create some dimension.

I’ve used stars in place of flowers to keep with the star theme of the layout, and created clusters with the addition of some wood veneer and ephemera pieces.

I’ve also used 2 photos backed with some tissue paper and some messy thread in multiple places, both a regular addition to Missy’s amazing work.

The main thing I didn’t try to recreate was the watercolored background, as they just never seem to work for me without major warping of the paper lol. Instead I’ve chosen the Experimental pattern paper as it had a similar feel, and splattered it with some black ink.

I kept one of the letters open and placed some cut stars from the Starshine paper under and above for something different and added a Rubber Charms below as the perfect finishing touch to this side of the layout.

I typed my journalling as I didn’t trust myself enough to write on the background. I always fear I’m going to make a major boo boo and have to re-do the whole page again. I thought the white cardstock it was typed on would break up and fill up that dark/empty space.

For this last cluster I’ve layered together pieces from the Die cut Ephemera pack along with a sticker and more of that fun messy thread, plus a wood veneer star and enamel dot.

That’s all from me today, thanks so much for stopping by. I hope my layout for Scrap Lift week has inspired you in some way.

Until next time, Happy Scrapping!

Michelle x

Hello Michael | You Rock | Missy Whidden

By | 2017-06-10T09:25:46+00:00 June 10th, 2017|Chit Chat|

Happy Saturday, friends!  Missy here again, and I’m kicking off a week of Scraplifts here on the blog.  We are all choosing a fellow DT member to scraplift, and I chose a gorgeous layout by Gwen Wruck.  She created a large star, used the You Rock collection, and used a photo of her cat.  I decided to do the same 🙂  I gathered a few papers  and cut a few large stars using my Silhouette Cameo.  I just wanted a stack of crooked stars on the background, so I used the outlines of the stars as well as the centers that were cut out.  I was excited to go with a boy-themed layout since I scrap about little girls all the time 🙂  I added some white gesso in various places and then used some bright blue Shimmerz spray along with some darker grey spray on top of it.  I wanted to pull out that pretty blue color.  I embellished with some Flair Button, Accessory Stickers, Chipboard Stickers, Die Cut Ephemera and some Wood Veneer.

I really love this color scheme.  I wasn’t planning on adding any reds to it, but I decided to fussy cut a few stars from patterned paper, and I love the pop of color it gives.  Here I created a small cluster with  a few stars, a flair button and a “You Rock” die cut piece.  I did do a bit of machine stitching around the blue star with some light grey thread.

I created another cluster over on the left.  I fussy cut the bigger white star from patterned paper also and added the “Rad” circle die cut with some thread under it.  I also fussy cut a few Washi Tape stars out and placed them around the page.

I went simple with my title and used one of the Wood Veneer words.  I used some alpha stickers from the Life is Beautiful collection and added in a sticker and a die cut.  I didn’t do any journaling on this page since it didn’t really need a story.

I love how gesso can lighten things up.  I smudged and blended it pretty thin so it gave it a hazy look.  I love how this allows ink sprays to keep their true colors without seeping into the paper.  I added in a bit of yellow thread under the photo as well as some tissue paper and adhesive foam for dimension.

I love the Rubber Charms!  I used one here right on top of the photo.  I used another Flair Button here with more thread under it.  I used a few pieces from the cut apart patterned paper as layers behind the photo.

I love how the background turned out and how you can see it peeking out from behind the photo.  I layered in another fussy cut star with a sticker as well as a Washi Tape star and a Chipboard star.

I hope this inspires you!  I had lots of fun scraplifting Gwen.  It gave me ideas I wouldn’t normally have tried, and I love that!  I have a process video here if you’d like to see how I created this.

Thanks so much for stopping in!  Have a great weekend!

Cocoa Vanilla at the Brisbane Scrapbook & Papercraft Expo!

By | 2017-05-25T15:55:18+00:00 May 29th, 2017|Chit Chat, Love Always, Make A Wish, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone!

This year’s Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo is fast approaching, and we are getting excited at the opportunity to see so many of our lovely friends and fans there!

The expo is being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, located at South Bank, daily from June 9-11.

Cocoa Vanilla will have a retail stand at the expo where you will be able to come see (and buy!) all your favourite products – including all our most recent collections, page and card kits, and even some show exclusives!

We will also be hosting daily classes taught by Cocoa Vanilla owner and designer herself, Zoe Pearn; and design team member (and current Scrapbooking Memories Magazine master) Gwen Wruck. Both Zoe and Gwen are accomplished scrapbookers, as well as experienced teachers; and their classes promise to be jam packed with product and full of fun.

For Zoe’s first class, (daily from 9.30-11.30am); participants will create two gorgeous layouts using the hugely popular Wild at Heart collection. Zoe will also pass on her tips for getting the most out of your supplies and leave you inspired to continue to create when you get home. Class materials include papers, stickers, ephemera, wood veneer and more.

In Gwen’s 12.00-2.00pm class, participants will create two bright & beautiful layouts using the stunning Make a Wish collection and learn her tips for creating embellishment clusters in her signature layered style. (Those who are brave enough can even add some hand stitching to their pages.) Materials for this class include papers, stickers, ephemera and enamel shapes.

Zoe’s final class each day (2.30-4.30pm) is a traveler’s notebook style mini album, featuring the beautiful Love Always collection. Participants in this class will learn how easy it can be to create a treasured keepsake, and can either follow the directions, or go their own way to customise their album to their own needs. This feminine collection makes a pretty album that can suit a variety of themes (weddings, love, girls, family or even yourself!) Class materials include papers, stickers, die cut ephemera, traveler’s notebook and more.

All class kits include materials required to complete the projects, plus plenty of left-overs to use when you get home!

As an added bonus, every seat booked in each of our classes, will earn an entry into the draw to win a Cocoa Vanilla Studio shopping spree – with a $100 voucher to the online store up for grabs for one random participant.

Bookings for classes with Zoe or Gwen can be made via the Scrapbook Expo website. Simply click on the class you are interested in on the timetable and follow the prompts through to book: http://scrapbookexpo.com.au/scrapbook/2017-time-table/

You’re Awesome You ROCK | You ROCK | Amanda Baldwin

By | 2017-05-22T14:03:35+00:00 May 27th, 2017|Chit Chat, Design Team, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends!

Amanda here with you today, and boy-oh-boy have I been hanging out to share my first layout with our totally awesome boy collection; You ROCK!

This collection is just so much fun & I couldn’t wait to use it for my Mr A for Awesome! But enough chatter, let’s get straight into the good stuff!

Here’s my layout,

“You’re Awesome You ROCK”

Isn’t this the coolest?!! The You ROCK collection is just so incredibly awesome that I just had to use it all in the one layout! Yep, you read correctly! You’ll spy at least one of every item from the line on this page! The circular design really lends itself to embellishing and WHOA! Doesn’t just scream fun?!!

Moving away from that mixed media feast and circle sensation for just a moment, you’ll notice that I introduced small trianlges into the page design too. There’s a method to my madness here!  I’ve used a whole lotta stars for embellishment, and stars have very sharp angles which contrast against the circle design. By adding the opposing corner triangles to my layout, I’ve created balance and a little unity between both geometric shapes. It creates a more natural flow for the eye. I’ve used WASHI STICKERS and foam mounted patterned paper, CV-YR005 NIGHT SKY to achieve this look.

Back to that awesome circle now…..

Let’s start at the center!

How fabulous is that Wood Veneer title? From the rockstar font to the boldness of the size; this veneer means business! Let’s get loud and shout it out! LOVE it!!! You’ll see that I’ve mounted my title onto a foam taped, old school View Master film from the DIE CUT EPHEMERA packet. I love that it’s been printed to look like a misted newspaper, and practice target – so cool! It really makes my title pop and be the central focal point for this design! There’s a super cool CHIPBOARD STICKER arrow beneath it all directing your eye into my photo next….

With such a big impact title I kept my photo small, simple,  as well as black & white, to contrast all the other page elements. I’ve layered my photo with both sides of the patterned paper CV-YR005 NIGHT SKY, a tab ACCESSORY STICKER, the RAD RUBBER CHARM,  and even a strip of the WASHI STICKERS to support it. To the lower right hand side of my photo, I’ve also embellished with that Awesome FLAIR BUTTON, some black cotton from my stash, and another terrific DIE CUT EPHEMERA piece. Here’s a closer look……

That’s My Boy, indeed! SO cool! Check out those stars and ENAMEL SHAPES too!!!

Some of the stars in my circle are fussy cut from the pattern paper CV-YR001 STARSHINE, others are DIE CUT EPHEMERA, ACCESSORY STICKERS, CHIPBOARD STICKERS and even RUBBER CHARMS! (I warned you – I had to use ALL the things! )

Here’s another look at the circular design and all those stars…..

Even the arrow has it’s own star! Such a bold and playful collection! Loving it all!

And I can’t go past that banner RUBBER CHARM!!! How incredible! It forms the first part of my title, and I LOVE it! It’s mounted onto a small WASHI STICKER strip for a lil extra highlight!

Total Awesomeness!!!

And there you have it! My first creation with the super cool You ROCK collection! Hope I have inspired you to get creating with it too!

Thanks so much for visiting and leaving a comment – it really means so much!

til next time,

Happy Arty Days, Amanda xo
