Always Something | Bohemian Dream | Missy Whidden

By | 2017-11-24T01:45:46+00:00 November 24th, 2017|Chit Chat|

Hey there, friends!  Missy here, and I have a new layout to share using the beautiful Bohemian Dream collection.  Our theme is week is Thankful, and I couldn’t resist scrapping some cute selfies of me and my girl.  I’m forever grateful for her in so many ways!  I found this quote on Pinterest and decided to cut it on some patterned paper using my Cameo.  I made it pretty large so it could be my background design using the Kaleidoscope Paper, and I backed the open letters with the Abstract Paper.  I covered a lot of the background with white gesso first and then used some watercolor pastels and ink sprays to add all that pretty color.

I cut “always” on the back of the Abstract Paper.  Mixing and matching fonts is always a great way to catch the eye.  I backed the open words before adding the watercolor so I could see where all my colors were.  For example, I wanted to add yellow next to other colors and so on.  After everything dried, I did a bit of machine stitching through parts of the quote using blue thread.

The Vellum Accents in this collection are to die for!  They are seriously beautiful, and I finally used a couple of them.  I tucked in an orange one here over some orange watercolor and added a Chipboard Accent Sticker heart.  I also added in a bit of yellow tangled thread.  You can see my photos are raised up a bit off the page.  I did that by adding some adhesive foam behind them along with some tissue paper.

I even added a Vellum Flower over the photo for a fun look.  I decided to go with black & white photos since I knew I was going to use a ton of colors everywhere.  Everything pops right off the page so nicely!

I used another Vellum Flower over on the left and another chipboard heart.  I used a bit too much glue and it crinkled a bit, but that’s okay 🙂

Here’s one more close-up of the dimension and beautiful colors.  I did add in a small flower cluster from the Die Cut Ephemera here, and I popped it up with adhesive foam.

I hope this inspires you to create a “Thankful” layout using some of the Bohemian Dream collection.  This was a lot of fun to create!  Be sure to check out my process video here if you’d like to watch this page come together.  Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends!

Amanda here, and I am SO excited to be sharing my take on pink OR blue theme week! Both of these colours are divine – but one of them is my all time favourite!

I am still swooning over the beautiful Bohemian Dream collection, and just had to use it for today’s layout. It’s just so dreamy and divine!

Here’s what I’ve created,

Oh isn’t this pretty?!!! And no surprises, I chose to use blue for my layout! Did you know it’s my favourite colour? lol!

There are a couple gorgeous hues of blue in the Bohemian Dream collection, & I decided to feature both of them in this sweet page. There’s that delicate, pastel aqua, as well as that super pretty royal blue.

My layout begins with that sensational stripe pattern, CV-BD005 DREAMER.

I just adore this shade of blue, and with it’s watercolour appearance – well, let’s just say it’s a sure favourite of mine! LOVE it! To really draw your eye into my page, I use a central focal point design for my photograph. The VELLUM & DIE CUT EPHEMERA wreath also serves as a border for my sweet layered photo! And those layers! Well, aren’t they something?! That’s exactly why I LOVE the new 6 x 6 PAPER PAD – it has so many uses and is perfect for layering!

Let’s take a closer look….

That wreath is SO pretty! I’ve combined those incredible watercolour leaves and intricate butterflies from both the DIE CUT EPHEMERA & VELLUM ACCENTS packs, as well as those sweet ENAMEL SHAPES. Being selective to only use those with blue tones. To further establish the love of blue, I have also added a very soft and delicate mixed media base within the wreath. The 11 inch square white cardstock base really emphasises the colours and again, draws you into my layout.

I have used a black and white photo for my layout because it lends itself to the colour palette beautifully.  And just how divine is that photograph? I have double framed it to really focus in on that sweet moment…..

Beautiful, indeed!

My photo is layered onto a few of the blue patterned 6 x 6 PAPER PAD papers, and then framed with the distressed timber frame DIE CUT, which I then double up on with matching CHIPBOARD ACCENT STICKER frame. The frames also mimic the jetty and shapes formed within my photograph. Everything so carefully positioned, to create a sense of unity within the design. The frame is then embellished with an ENAMEL SHAPE, DIE CUT sentiment & another CHIPBOARD ACCENT STICKER. Central to it all is that gorgeous layered butterfly. It’s another of those fabulous CHIPBOARD ACCENT STICKERS with a DIE CUT simply added over the top of it! Such a simple idea, but adding such dimension!

You’ll then spot that incredible CHIPBOARD TITLE STICKER, ‘Remember’. I love that these chippies are bare, and can be hand coloured to suit your needs. I gave mine the blue treatment with some of the paints I used to create that soft background with. I also dove into my stash and used a butterfly punch to cut out a few tiny cardstock butterflies. One is positioned beneath the edge of my title and the others within my wreath design. They just help to break up all the blue, and add a lil interest.

For finishing touches, more ENAMEL SHAPES, a lil cotton floss thread & that FLAIR BUTTON. Who doesn’t love a good flair?! And at Cocoa Vanilla Studio, the flairs are always so beautifully coordinated and designed with the collection in mind. Absolute perfection!

And there you have it!

Sweet. Simple. Understated.

But oh so Beautiful!!!

Hope you feel inspired to seek out the blue (or even the pink) tones in your Bohemian Dream stash!

Dream BIG | Bohemian Dream | Amanda Baldwin

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends & Fans!

Amanda here with another dreamy scrapbook page with the stunning Bohemian Dream collection! And when I say dreamy, I am talking all things soft, sweet & pastel! Think dream catchers, big dreams and a dreamy colour combination too! Here’s what I’m talking about…..

“Dream BIG”

Oh swoon! This truly is such a divine collection to create with! So many beautiful details!

You’ll see that I have been inspired by the dreamcatchers, sweet birds & feathers for this gorgeously girly layout of my darling daughter. I have even created my own arrow embellishment from CHIPBOARD STICKERS, a wooden skewer, twine, feathers & a VELLUM ACCENT feather too! SO pretty! Lots of lovely layers and dreamy mixed media too!

My layout begins with the reverse sides of pattern papers CV-BD003 ABSTRACT, & CV-BD008 KALEIDOSCOPE. I love the ombre purple, & who can go past distressed, white woodgrain patterns?!! Just divine!

I then move straight onto those incredible CHIPBOARD STICKERS as my feature title, using the dreamcatcher chippy to center it all. Here’s a closer look for you…..

Oh my heart! It just doesn’t get much prettier than this! Just look at the fine details on that dreamcatcher! As well as centering my title, that dreamcatcher also acts as an anchor for my beautiful photograph!

My photograph has a couple of lovely layers beneath it. First you’ll see that awesome Cocoa Vanilla Studio Geo Heart Cut File which has been paper pieced with the 6 x 6 PAPER PAD (using the reverse side of the GYPSY HEART pattern paper). Beneath the cut file is a beautiful mixture of purple and berry watercolours and mists. I have applied them using the packaging technique, and gentle splattering. To compliment the mixed media, and bring further attention to my photo, I have added those glossy ENAMEL SHAPES – love!!!

Here’s another view for you….

Gah! So delicate & divine!

I then embellish on and around my photograph with ACCESSORY STICKERS, and more CHIPBOARD STICKERS. Those polka dot hearts are the cutest, and those birds!!! All the heart eyes!

Supporting my photo is my handmade embellishment – a boho arrow which doubles up as a mobile to suspend those DIE CUT EPHEMERA feathers from. Let’s take a better look….

So simple, and yet so effective!

To create my boho arrow I attached a CHIPBOARD STICKER arrow to a wooden skewer, and hot glued a few craft feathers to the end. I then wrapped mutli coloured twine around the skewer (including the joins) and threaded my VELLUM ACCENT feather into the end also. I used a sewing needle to thread my DIE CUT EPHEMERA feathers onto individual twine strings, and then attached them to the arrow. For finishing touches I embellished the arrow with the memories sentiment and add another sweet chippy heart to hold the center string in position. I complete my layout with more ENAMEL SHAPES & another fabulous sentiment sticker…..

Bohemian Dream is truly ALL the pretty things!!! I hope you have enjoyed viewing my dreamy project today, and feel inspired to get creating with Bohemian Dream too!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Sweet Memories | Bohemian Dream Layout | Raquel Bowman

By | 2017-10-18T17:28:10+00:00 October 19th, 2017|Bohemian Dream, Chit Chat, Design Team, Inspiration|

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here today sharing with you a new layout featuring the gorgeous ‘Bohemian Dream’ collection. This was my first layout with the new collection and wow! Bohemian Dream is so gorgeous isn’t it?!?  Each and every piece is just so beautiful. I must say I was super excited to see the new 6×6 paper pad, stamps and chipboard words that were released with this collection. Even more goodness to play with! I’ll make sure to share how I used them throughout this post.

Here is the layout I created:

The subject of this layout is my little girl. This pic was taken right before she went to sleep on the night before her 5th birthday. 5! Yep my baby is 5. Seriously, how does it go so quick? Anyways, this was her last night being 4 so I wanted to document it. As soon as I printed it I knew I wanted to use it with this collection as I was was thinking along the lines of ‘sweet dreams my four year old’ or something of that nature. Since the collection has a lot of Dream catchers I made the link there. I printed the photo in black and white as the colours in her doona cover would have been too bold. The photo is printed at around a 3×4″ size.

It may be a little cliche’ but I had to make the main element of my page a dream catcher. It was screaming to be done with this collection and this photo and the story of my page was just perfect for it. I found a dream catcher image online and traced it with my silhouette software. I only wanted the top portion of the catcher as I knew I wanted to create the feathers using the ephemera pack and some stitching.

I love the 6×6 pads. The prints are smaller in design and just perfect for backing cut files with. I have backed a portion of the top of the dream catcher paper with the 6×6″ size of the ‘Wild n Free’ paper. The inclusion of the blue added a nice soft touch to the page as I felt the purple, navy and even the pink were a lot more bold. I also matted my photo with the paper pad on the spot design paper.

This collection has the most beautiful floral designs, dare I say my fave from all the collections, so I had to add some clusters of them on either side of the photo and dream catcher. I added a little foam adhesive to some of the elements to create that shadow and dimension.

For the bottom of the dream catcher I decided to use the three feathers that can be found in the ephemera pack. I wanted it to look like they were hanging off the dreamcatcher, like they do on a real life one, so I replicated the string with stitching and the beading you can find on them with enamel dots.

As always I felt I needed to add my journaling to tell the story of this page. Although the design was somewhat central I felt the design needed a little balance due to the heaviness of the photo so that is why I have placed the journaling where I have.

I hope this page has inspire you today. This would be such a fun page to replicate at home. If you have any questions about it at all don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments section below or send me a message via social media.

Oh also, if you haven’t checked out the Bohemian Dream collection in detail you can see it in my unboxing video below

Hi Cocoa Vanilla Studio Friends!

Amanda here, and oh me, oh my! I am SO excited to be sharing my very first Design Team layout with the gorgeous NEW Bohemian Dream collection! This line is so incredibly pretty – I am truly in floral paper heaven! So for this week’s theme post, “What’s your style?” I have tried to keep to my feminine and pretty side. You’ll spy lots of those blooms – because we all know that I just heart #alltheflorals, as well as a Cocoa Vanilla Studio cut file and a soft mixed media background. I tend to always have a ‘clean’ look when it comes to mixed media, and just love to play with colour. I hope my layout inspires you!

Here’s my gorgeously girly installment…..

“Beautiful Dream”

Oh swoon! This collection is SO divine!!!

For my layout today, I’ve been totally inspired by Boho dream catchers and the cascading gardens in my photograph.

I start with the reverse side of pattern paper CV-BD001 ABUNDANT, and layer it with 11 x 11″ white cardstock.

I have used the Geo Heart Cut File from the Colour Me Happy collection, and backed it with the 6 x 6 Paper Pad floral paper, ABUNDANT. The heart is then supported by blooms and leaves from the DIE CUT EPHEMERA & VELLUM ACCENTS pack, and then embellished with the sentiment CHIPBOARD STICKERS.

The heart is positioned onto that stunning mixed media background, which was created with the packaging technique and lots of tiny brush splatters.  Those super pretty watercolours compliment the DIE CUT blooms perfectly!

Let’s take a closer look…….

And I must make mention of those VELLUM butterflies! Aren’t they something?!! Every element of Bohemian Dream is so exquisitely crafted and timeless in its beauty!

It’s no secret that I love #allthefloralthings but Bohemian Dream takes floral prettiness to a whole new level! Those watercolour blooms and leaves are incredible!

Even the ENAMEL SHAPES coordinate beautifully!!! Sooooooo gorgeous!

I love how I’ve encouraged the cascading vines / leaves to lead your eye into my sweet photo…..

Isn’t this a lovely photo of my daughter?! Such a beautiful memory captured here.

I have double mounted my photo using the 6 x 6 Paper Pad for added impact. I am absolutely loving the release of the 6 x 6 Paper Pad – it’s perfect for all those smaller details!

To complete my layout, I have used another heart and vines combination to center the design, and provide balance to the page. Such a beautiful layout for my daughter’s album!

I hope you feel inspired by my ‘my style’ page, & are ready to create with Bohemian Dream!

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment, it means so much!

Hey Little Man | You Rock | Emma Wood

By | 2017-10-01T12:23:10+00:00 October 8th, 2017|Chit Chat, Design Team, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hi friends!  Emma on the blog today to share a fun page I created using the amazing You Rock collection.  I’m a huge fan of all the boy collections but this one is just awesome and quickly became my No. 1 (which is saying something, I didn’t think anything could top Totally Rad!).

For this page I set myself a challenge to only use the black & white (or shades thereof) pieces in the kit.  I really love setting myself little challenges!  I find I create much more efficiently when I limit what I use – and although I generally stick to a collection or kit, often there are so many awesome pieces included that I don’t know where to start – so I find breaking it down even further (i.e. black & white items only) gets rid of that anxiety that sometimes kills my creative mojo.  Sounds crazy, but it’s true 😉

Here’s a look at how I started my process –  I just went through the collection (what I have left of it anyhow!) and picked out all the black and white pieces I could find.  At this stage I have no idea what type of page I’m going to make but I actually managed to pick out my photo beforehand and stick to using it (I’ve a habit of changing photo’s mid-layout, haha).  I also grabbed a few mists and some acrylic paint just incase.

I find that once I’ve restricted what goodies I’m able to use then I can actually put a page together rather quickly!  Here’s a look at the page I created:

I started with white cardstock and added a few mist spatters (I used Heidi Swapp Color Mist in black and tinsel) then I set about creating a layer of pattern papers underneath my photo.  That cross pattern paper (b-side of Random) is my absolute favourite; I love it!  I’ve been hoarding it like a crazy woman and keep every little scrap piece for “just incase”, haha.  I used a large section of that as my basis and layered the other patterned paper underneath that.  I popped the black chipboard piece underneath my photo on the LHS to give it a little dimension.

I also popped a few off-cut papers at the top right and bottom left of my page and machine stitched (in black) on the opposite corners to frame the layout and minimise some of that white space.

Once the base of my layout was done I was able to embellish!  This is without doubt my favourite part of the process and I can spend ages moving one little thing around on the page until I find a placement I like.  I went with the chipboard “HEY” and a word sticker for my title and popped it at the bottom left of my photo – there’s actually a bunch of boots/shoes in the background of the photo and this hides them perfectly haha.

I placed a few die-cut pieces around my page (crosses to match in with my paper selection) and added a few extra enamel shapes above/below my photo.

My journaling was actually the last thing to go onto my page and I had originally planned to have it sitting on the bottom right of my photo but turns out putting it there would mean I’d cover up some of the mist splatters and given they take me ages to get right (yeah…I’m particular about my splatters, lol) I decided to move it to the bottom right of my page – so I just added more black stitching on top to hold it in place (and make it look like I’d planned for it to be there all along! 😉 )

Thanks so much for joining me on the blog today, I hope this might inspire you to try creating your own “mini-kit” when starting your own page!  I’d absolutely love to see your take on a black & white theme! Take care, Em xo
