About Sue Plumb

Sue is a stay at home mum of 3 (daughter Brielle, and twin sons Hunter and Kaden) and lives in the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains in Queensland. She began scrapping in 2008, shortly after her daughter was born. After the premature birth of her sons in 2012, she took 18 months off scrapping to concentrate on family and since her return says she is enjoying it more than ever. (Her biggest issue now is finding quiet time!) She currently designs for challenge blogs, and has had work published in magazines on numerous occasions, including the cover. She is also a 2017 Scrapbooking Memories magazine Creative Team member. Although primarily a 12×12 scrapper, she says she loves to dabble a bit with pocket style scrapping, art journaling, and the odd canvas and card too. She best describes her style as "versatile" - ranging from clean and linear one day, to messy mixed media the next.

LOVE YOU | Wild at Heart layout | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-09-18T11:46:00+00:00 September 19th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here with my latest design team project to share with you. This week we are focusing on the theme ‘Hearts & Flowers’ on the blog, so today I have a layout featuring the beautiful ‘Wild at Heart’ collection, and a photo of me with my three children. (All looking in the same direction AND smiling – it’s a photographic miracle! haha)

Knowing in my head that I wanted to add some mixed media to my creation, I started my layout with a sheet of white cardstock, then added vertical strips of both the ‘Bohemian’ and ‘Patchwork’ papers to define the focal area of my page.

I then added a mat for my photo cut from the beautiful marbled print side of the ‘Grow Wild’ paper and some frayed gauze for subtle texture.

Next, I took a sheet of the gorgeous floral ‘Memento’ paper and fussy cut several large floral pieces from it. I used these to tuck around my photo, and also to create anchor points in two of the diagonally opposing corners. This helped bring balance and flow to my design. I then used some soft pink watercolour paint to highlight and extend on each of the floral pieces, plus add some soft splatters around my page.

For the cluster in the bottom right corner, I topped the floral piece with one of the rubber charms and a small heart from the chipboard accent stickers sheet. For the top left cluster, I added a small heart from the die cut ephemera pack. I also added a sentiment from the ephemera pack directly onto my photo.

I used the large love you from the chipboard accent stickers as my layout title, adhering it directly below my photo and emphasising it with a die cut ephemera frame that I cut into pieces.

To finish off, I added a beautiful butterfly from the ephemera pack and then I left it at that. I was really happy with the soft, understated result of this page.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today so I could share this with you. I will be back in a couple of weeks with another project to share. Until then, happy scrapping!

YOU ROCK | You Rock & Totally Rad layout | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-08-20T20:15:37+00:00 August 21st, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Totally Rad, You ROCK|

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here today to share my latest design team project with you. This week the team has a brand new theme they are focusing on – ‘All About Colour’. Colour is such an integral part of creating, and the colour choices you make for your layout design can help influence the mood or theme you want to convey.

For this page, I wanted to document this cute photo of my boys, so I allowed my colour choices to be dictated by the photo.

You can see that I selected the blue as my main tone; followed by the complimentary lime green; then some small pops of red as the accent colour. I used elements from the ‘You Rock’ and ‘Totally Rad’ boy collections for this page to achieve the combination of colours I was after.

I started with the ‘Stellar’ paper from Totally Rad, and applied some blue watercolour paint with a small brush to define the focal area of my page. I held my page vertically whilst doing so, which allowed the excess paint to run down the page. I then added some blue mist splatters to the same area and allowed it to dry.

Once dry, I cut the background paper down to measure approx 11×11″ and then adhered it to the B side of the ‘Galactic’ paper from the ‘You Rock’ collection to form a border. I then used more of the ‘Galactic’ paper to mat under my photo, and added an extra layer with the lime striped ‘Mix Tape’ paper from ‘Totally Rad’ and some frayed gauze and messy lime green thread for texture.

I then began embellishing around my photo, using pieces from the die cut ephemera packs from each collection; along with some fussy cut stars from the ‘Starshine’ paper to create clusters. I complimented each of the clusters with some ‘Totally Rad’ enamel shapes and added one of the ‘You Rock’ flair buttons to the one at the top.

I used one of the large ‘You Rock’ wood veneer shapes as my title, and coloured it using a Posca pen so that it would pop from the page. I then stamped the date and added a few more mist splatters around my page and I was finished.

Thanks so much for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I hope the team will inspire you this week to break out all those gorgeous bold colours in your stash and get creating with them!

Until next time, happy scrapping!

Happy Brothers | You Rock | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-07-30T12:03:20+00:00 August 7th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here and it’s time again for another project from me, this time using the fabulous ‘You Rock’ collection. It’s no secret that I love creating boy layouts, so with two five year old boys, I always have plenty of moments to document. The photo on this page was taken the day I took my Cars-mad boys to see the new ‘Cars 3’ movie. (Of course, we had to wear our Lightning McQueen shirts for the occasion.) Afterwards, I took them to spend some birthday money that was burning a hole in their pockets, and they quickly snapped up some of the car characters from the movie.

I adore the wood grain print on the reverse side of the Plus One paper, so I decided to use that as the base for my layout. I wanted to “grunge” my page up a bit first, so I added some brush strokes of white gesso, stamping and random smears of coloured texture paste to the paper before constructing my page.

I started by creating a layered mat for my photo to sit on. I used pieces of the Stripped and Galactic papers, which I cut and tore into a variety of shapes and sizes, then stacked and stapled the pile together. I also added a small amount of frayed gauze to add some texture before adding my photo on top.

Next, I took some of the washi stickers and tore them up. I applied the enjoy the little things phrase to the right of my photo, and small pieces from the blue striped one around my page.

Die cut ephemera was next. I selected several pieces from the pack and used them to add dimension and interest to my layers by tucking them in around and under my photo.

With that fabulous wood grain print forming the background for my page, I couldn’t go past using some of the coordinating wood veneer shapes to embellish it. (I so love the stars in this pack!) I added several pieces around my page, which brought warmth and natural texture to my design.

Finally, I added my title. I used the happy word from the Wild at Heart wood veneer words pack; and paired it with the word brothers from the cut apart Random paper. I highlighted my title by adding a small arrow from the rubber charms pack. I also added the double trouble phrase sticker from the accessory sticker sheet above my photo; my handwritten journaling; and a few splatters of white ink.

Thanks so much for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back again in a couple of weeks with another project.

Until then, happy scrapping!

Hello Jail Bird | You Rock | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-07-18T12:29:00+00:00 July 21st, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. Today I have a layout I created using the ‘You Rock’ collection; a bit of mixed media; and a funny photo of one of my boys that I took recently at a theme park.

I started my page with a sheet of the ‘In Line’ paper, and I chose to run the stripes vertically to mimic the bars in the photo. I then added some extra depth to my background using a texture stamp and some grey watercolour paint. I also added some small pieces of torn striped washi tape sticker; along with a printed phrase washi sticker to the top corner of my page.

Next, I gathered together some papers to create a layered mat for my photo. The papers I used included the reverse side of the ‘In Line’ paper; ‘Night Sky’; and ‘Random’. I also use the lightning bolt strip cut from the ‘Stripped’ paper and ran it vertically through the focal area of my page. I then added some messy black cotton thread for texture and mounted my photo on top.

To embellish my page, I started by adding a few fussy cut stars from the ‘Starshine’ paper; then a couple of chipboard accent stickers, which I layered directly onto my photo.

Next, I added several wood veneer shapes around my page; including the hello word that I used as part of my title. The remainder of my title was created using some Colour Me Happy black alphabet stickers and Totally Rad wood grain alphabet stickers. I also added a few small phrase stickers from the accessory sticker sheet.

Beneath my photo I added the awesome tag rubber charm, which I tied with a small piece of twine. To finish off my layout I added some splatters of mist and a few stamped phrases and date.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back again in a couple of weeks with another project. Until then, happy scrapping!

My Heart is Full | Love Always | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-07-07T00:47:14+00:00 July 7th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Love Always|

Hi everyone! Sue here with you today to continue with this week’s focus on “the story”, and using journaling on your layouts to make sure you tell the story behind the photos you scrap.

The page I have to share with you today features the beautiful ‘Love Always’ collection, and a candid photo of my children that I took a few years ago. It was taken back when my boys were still babies; when my daughter used to give them a nightly bottle while I prepared dinner for the rest of the family. We had a deal with her that she could watch whatever she wanted on TV while she did it.

I started with the soft pink side of the ‘Class Act’ paper as my base, and added some mixed media to it before I went any further. I first added some stamping using a random text stamp (perfect for a story theme, don’t you think?) to the top right corner and bottom left corner. I then added some pink watercolour paint over the top, to further define the focal areas of my page. Next, I added some smears of coloured texture paste, and some splatters of mist; then set it aside to dry.

The next step was to create the layered mat for my photo to sit on. I used a variety of papers (‘Note to Self’; ‘Class Act’ and ‘Lovely Things’), which I layered together with some messy cotton thread before mounting my photo on top. I also used some of the same papers in my cluster at the top of the page, along with pieces from the die cut ephemera pack.

Above my photo, I added the word together that was cut from the ‘Lovely Things’ cut apart paper; as well as a small arrow from the puffy sticker sheet. Alongside my photo, I added another piece from the cut apart, as well as an arrow from the chipboard accent sticker sheet.

I then added the two die cut butterflies from the ephemera pack just below my top cluster; and dotted some of the Sparkles enamel dots around my page.

To finish off, I added my typed journaling; as well as the small my heart is full banner from the ephemera pack as my title.

I am so glad this theme prompted me to get this memory documented before the details became a distant memory. Do you have any photos laying around that need their stories told too? I hope this week is inspiring you to get them out and document them.

Thanks for stopping by today. Until next time, happy scrapping!

Hello Winter | Wild at Heart | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-06-29T01:27:19+00:00 June 29th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone! It’s Sue here with you today to share my latest project with you. Last week the design team were sharing their season inspired layouts, so today I have my own winter themed layout to share using the ‘Wild at Heart’ collection.

Winter where I live isn’t very “wintery” compared with many other locations where the temperatures truly plummet; but when our temperatures do begin to drop here I am always excited at the prospect of pulling out my jackets, scarves and boots (even when our daytime temperatures are still hovering around the 20 degree Celsius mark!)

To help give my page a winter feel, I decided to keep largely with shades of blue, white and grey (with a couple of tiny pops of pink to lift it). I mainly used the ‘Wild at Heart’ collection for my layout (with a couple of ‘You Rock’ papers thrown in). For my background I chose the fabulous wood grain pattern side of the Artisan paper; which I topped with 3 circles cut from the specialty vellum sheet. To give my background some extra depth and to tie in with the colour of my jacket in the photo, I then added some vibrant blue watercolour paint around some of the circles and in the space between them.

Next, I created a layered mat for my photo to sit on; which consisted of pieces cut from several ‘Wild at Heart’ papers (Mariposa; Patchwork; Double Dot and Memento); and two ‘You Rock’ papers (Galactic and Random). I also added a paper doily and some frayed gauze to my layers to help soften them, and provide some subtle texture.

To add further depth to my layers, I tucked in a frame from the die cut ephemera pack, which I cut in half and placed under either side of my photo. Below the photo I added a small banner (also from the ephemera pack); and to help draw the viewer’s eye in, I added an arrow from the chipboard accent stickers alongside it.

Also from the chipboard sticker sheet, was the word hello I used for part of my title; then I completed it by using the stitched denim ‘Hello Sunshine’ alphabet stickers to spell out winter. As butterflies are such a gorgeous feature of the ‘Wild at Heart’ collection, I couldn’t resist adding some. (Who can say no to butterflies, right?) I added one chipboard butterfly, as well as two fussy cut butterflies (which were cut from the Mariposa paper).

I finished off my layout with my handwritten journaling; a few stamped phrases; and some mist splatters.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back again soon with another project to share. Until then, happy scrapping!
