About Sue Plumb

Sue is a stay at home mum of 3 (daughter Brielle, 8 and twin sons Hunter and Kaden, 3) and lives in the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains in Queensland. Sue has been scrapping for approximately 8 years, having started shortly after her daughter was born. After the premature birth of her sons, she took 18 months off scrapping to concentrate on family and since her return says she is enjoying it more than ever. (Her biggest issue now is finding quiet time!) She currently designs for challenge blogs, and has had work published in scrapbooking magazines on numerous occasions, including the cover. Although primarily a 12×12 scrapper, she says she loves to dabble a bit with pocket style scrapping, art journaling, and the odd canvas and card too. She best describes her style as "versatile" - ranging from clean and linear one day, to messy mixed media the next.

You’re Awesome | You Rock | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It’s Sue here with you today sharing my layout for this week’s themed ‘Scraplift Week’. It also happens to be my very first layout using the brand new “You ROCK” boy themed collection. (This range starts shipping to retailers on Monday 24th April, so keep an eye out – it will be hitting store shelves very soon!)

For my scraplift, I decided to look back through the Cocoa Vanilla archives for some masculine themed inspiration from previous collections and this is what I created…

I have always admired the clean, fresh style of Raquel Bowman; as it’s quite different from my own usual style. (My layouts typically use a full patterned paper background, and tend to be a bit more freestyle and messy than the restrained precision that Raquel is known for.)

Here is Raquel’s layout that provided me the inspiration – it was from quite some time ago using the Made of Awesome collection and I have always loved this page…

I decided to take her original design and flip it over, as I found it worked better with the portrait orientation photo I wanted to use. I did stick with the main structural elements though, including using only a half patterned paper background and using a diagonal flow of embellishments to draw the eye through the photo.

I used a piece of the In Line grey striped paper on my background, which I complimented with a thin strip of the B-side of the Stripped paper. I love grey, so wanted to mainly focus on the achromatic pieces from the collection. I also cut some of the circles from the pattern on the Stripped paper, which I used to layer under the edges of my photo, along with a paper doily.

For my embellishments, I started by pulling out all the black / white / grey ones, and then sorted through them to choose which ones I was going to use. I chose various pieces of die cut ephemera; chipboard stickers; a flair button and a rubber charm, which I used as my title on the photo. I also added a few pops of yellow, using some stars I fussy cut from the Starshine paper and some enamel dots. (I used foam mounting tape under some of my elements to provide extra dimension.)

I strayed a little from the clean style to add some messy thread, a few randomly stamped phrases and black splatters – all of which made my messy side much happier! (I do love that fact that I was able to add enough of my own touches to make the layout mine, whilst still maintaining the integrity of Raquel’s original design.)

If you are ever stuck for an idea and don’t know where to start, scraplifting another layout can be a great source of inspiration. (You can find all the CVS design team layouts pinned on the Pinterest account HERE)

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. Until next time, happy scrapping!

This Makes Me Happy | Wild at Heart + Endless Summer | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-03-28T16:45:29+00:00 April 7th, 2017|Design Team, Endless Summer, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone! It’s Sue Plumb here, popping in today with another design team project to share with you. For this layout, I decided to combine the two most recent Cocoa Vanilla collections – Wild at Heart and Endless Summer. (Who would have thought that these two collections would mix so well together?) My page features a photo I took of my children when I took them to see “The Secret Life of Pets” movie.

I wanted to keep this layout design relatively simple, to allow the soft colours of the papers and embellishments to shine, so I opted for a white cardstock background. I then created a mat for my photo using multiple layers of different patterned papers from the two collections, and a paper doily from my stash.

To add some extra dimension to my layers, I also added some chipboard frames from the Wild at Heart collection. I LOVE these frames – they are so versatile with the variety of patterns and sizes in each pack. You can see how I also added some messy cotton thread to my layers to add some subtle texture.

I used a combination of embellishments dotted around my page. This included die cut ephemera from both collections and some super cute rubber charms from Wild at Heart (these are a brand new addition to the Cocoa Vanilla range).

To help balance my design, I created a small cluster in the top right hand corner of my page. I repeated many of the same elements from my main focal area – layered patterned papers, a chipboard frame, die cut ephemera, a small phrase sticker and some cotton thread. I also added a flair button inside the chipboard frame.

Instead of using a large title for this page, I opted to use the small this makes me happy die cut tucked in above my photo for my title, alongside a cheeky little die cut flamingo. (Given the subject, I had to squeeze a sneaky little animal on there somewhere!)

To finish my page I added a few small triangles of patterned paper to break up the white space; my journaling; some stamping; and a few navy mist splatters.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I hope I have inspired you to look at your stash and perhaps try combining some different collections too?

Until next time, happy scrapping!

Love You | Wild at Heart | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-03-18T01:33:07+00:00 March 21st, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone! It’s Sue here with you today to share another layout using the new Wild at Heart collection. For anyone that has been trying to get their hands on this range, you will be happy to hear that the second shipment of this collection was sent to retailers last week, so it should be hitting shelves near you very soon (if it hasn’t already).

For my layout today, I opted to focus on the rich, warm tones from the collection and combine them with some photos of my daughter snuggling our kitten. (We’ve had fish and birds before, but this has been her first furry pet that she can cuddle, so to say she loves him is probably an understatement.)

I used the B sides of the Fussy Cut and Luscious papers for my background. I love the contrast of the bold stripes against the soft ombre watercolour.

I used two smaller size (3×4″) photos for this page, which I layered on top of a paper doily and mounted up higher using some cardboard underneath. I then added some messy cotton thread and fussy cut floral pieces from the Luscious paper which I tucked under and around my photos.

I created a small, layered cluster to the right of my photos using half a chipboard frame; a die cut heart from the ephemera pack; a flair button and some Sparkles enamel dots. Under the corner of the photo I tucked a small butterfly that I fussy cut from the Mariposa paper.

I added another identical butterfly slightly further down my page, and between the two I placed one of the super cute new rubber charms. For my layout title, I used two wood veneer words, which I coloured using a paint pen; along with a small heart. Directly below my title I added one of the small phrase stickers from the accessory sticker sheet.

Next, I fussy cut “hello gorgeous” from the Fussy Cuts paper, and adhered it overlapping the edge of my secondary photo. I then added a heart chipboard sticker and another enamel dot to help balance my left hand side embellishment cluster. I finished off my page by splattering some white ink around. (Just don’t forget to cover your photos when you do this.)

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back in a couple of weeks with another project. Until then, happy scrapping!

Hello Lovely | Wild at Heart | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-02-25T13:08:57+00:00 March 7th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone! I am here today to share my latest layout using the fabulous new release Wild at Heart collection. I am seriously crushing on this collection. It’s full of rich, gorgeous tones and (as always) there is an amazing variety of coordinating embellishments. This page was designed to showcase some specific embellishments from the collection – the chipboard stickers and the new chipboard frames.

I wanted to combine a variety of contrasting papers from the collection, and managed to use SIX different patterns on this page! I love that there is such a huge range of patterns to choose from in this collection with the increased number of papers. (Because when it comes down to it, it’s allll about the paper, right?)

I created this cluster at the top of my layout using two chipboard stickers for the title, along with a heart that I cut from the Fussy Cuts cut apart paper, a chipboard sticker heart, and one of the Sparkles enamel dots.

I included another chipboard sticker heart and more enamel dots in the corner of my photo. (I love embellishing in the negative space on my photos.) You can also see how I have layered several contrasting patterned papers behind my photo, along with a paper doily.

I made a feature of the chipboard frames by layering them under and around my photo, and stamped the date directly onto the date frame using Staz-On ink. I also used a couple of the small phrase arrows from the chipboard stickers pack to help draw the eye into the photo.

I added a couple of the tiny phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet directly onto one of the frames, as well as the stunning butterfly flair button which I nested on some messy thread. (And a couple more of the Sparkles enamel dots – because you can never have too much sparkle, right?)

I love how much dimension this layout has, largely due to the layering of the chipboard frames. (Seriously, I think I need a dozen packs of these frames so I am not tempted to hoard them! haha)

That’s all from me today, thanks for stopping by. The Wild at Heart collection is currently available from selected retailers (who were able to get their hands on the first shipment) but the good news is that it will be more widely available soon. If you have the chance to grab some, then do – it really is STUNNING!

Until next time, happy scrapping! X

Love Every Minute Together | Wild at Heart | Sue Plumb

By | 2017-02-15T16:32:08+00:00 February 21st, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hi everyone!

Sue here with you today to share my very first layout using the new Wild at Heart collection. I am IN LOVE with this collection, it really is even more stunning in person than it appears in photographs! The whole collection boasts such beautiful tones, and add to that the floral and watercolour elements, plus a heap of gorgeous butterflies…let’s just say making the first cut into any of it was hard! 😉

I DID manage to cut into it though, and I paired it with a couple of selfies I took of my daughter and I together recently just before we went to the theatre.

The most difficult part of using any new collection is knowing where to start – there are just so many beautiful things to choose from! I started with the papers I wanted to use for my background. I chose the Double Dot paper and used the B-side for my base sheet. I then used the beautiful blue watercolour side of the Mariposa paper and I tore it (yes – tore!), so I could layer a piece over the top. Along the top edge of this piece, I used one of my border punches to punch out a contrasting decorative strip from the B-side of the Luscious paper.

I used two frames from the new chipboard frames pack to frame the photos I wanted to use and set them aside. I then created a layered mat to mount them on using more of the Luscious paper, along with some of the navy floral vellum sheet and a paper doily from my stash.

I added some fussy-cut floral pieces from the Luscious paper that I used around my page. I nested one of the coordinating flair buttons on top of one of them, along with some messy cotton thread for texture. Along the edge of my decorative strip I added a couple of stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

For my title “love every minute together”, I used two pieces from the cut apart Fussy Cuts paper. I also cut the large butterfly from the same sheet. (I love the butterflies in this collection SO much!)

In the bottom corner of my layout I added a few phrase stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet; another butterfly (this one is from the Die Cut Ephemera pack); some more cotton thread and a few Sparkles glitter enamel dots.

To finish off my layout I stamped the date and added a few splatters of navy mist.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back in a couple of weeks with another project for you. Until then, happy scrapping!

** Please note – due to unprecedented demand for the Wild at Heart collection, the first shipment was sold out in record time, so it is currently only available from selected retailers. A second shipment is already on the way, and once it arrives the collection will be more widely available from our retailers. (We will keep everyone updated with news of this via our Facebook page.) **
