About Marcia Dehn-Nix

Marcia Dehn-Nix lives in Minnesota (where winters are way too long and summers are way too short), with her wonderful hubby, and they have three adult kids. She has been scrapbooking for about 15 years. Her scrapbooking evolved out of a love for photography. In fact, she used to be a wedding photographer! Besides her love for paper crafting, she has a soft side when it comes to cute, furry animals. Her family fosters kittens and puppies on occasion for a local rescue. She has a 9-5 job working as a software engineer.

Birdman | Endless Summer | Marcia Dehn-Nix

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia here, sharing some more awesome Endless Summer inspiration. This beautiful collection works just as well for Winter getaways too. In fact, I wish I was somewhere warm right now…  -25°C this morning here in Minnesota! With phrases like “Aloha Sunshine”, I knew this collection would be perfect for scrapping some Hawaii pictures. I had some unscrapped photos of my husband feeding some pigeons when we vacationed on Waikiki Beach last winter. He was snacking on some trail mix on our hotel balcony (12 stories up!) when a pigeon happened upon him. Pretty soon there were flocks of pigeons everywhere!! Almost like an Alfred Hitchcock “The Bird” scene. I managed to snap these photos before we were swarmed.

I challenged myself to create a vertical title and go big. I love how this title turned out. You can see various pattern papers behind the woodgrain outlined alphas. With the title “Birdman” of course I had to add some flamingos! I love this Wood Veneer flamingo!! You can see one of the Woodies here too in this close-up.

The cut apart journal cards work well to hold some journaling. I added several Die Cut Ephemera pieces, Stickers, a Flair Button, more Woodies, some Enamel Shapes, and Wood Veneer all in this embellishment cluster. It’s swoon worthy!

I couldn’t resist pulling out the Puffy Stickers as well. You can see a pennant flag here among some clouds and an Aloha Sunshine ephemera piece. With a vertical title, I thought it would be fun to add some feathers to my background. Machine stitching adds interest and texture.

Hello Memphis | Endless Summer | Marcia Dehn-Nix

By | 2016-12-15T17:52:38+00:00 December 18th, 2016|Endless Summer|

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia here. I have another fun Endless Summer layout to share with you today. I am in love with this collection. I love the soft color palette and all those embellishments that coordinate. I wanted to showcase several of the beautiful pattern papers in this versatile collection. I decided on a circle grid design with some travel die-cuts. The photo is of my daughter and myself,  We recently found ourselves in Memphis for a weekend and were out on the town having fun..

hellomemphis

We had an awesome night enjoying BBQ, piano music, and cocktails. These particular drinks were called Blue Suede, after a famous Elvis song, so I wanted to bring out some blue on my layout in my title and splatters of ink. The “Memphis” was cut out on my Silhouette using a font on my computer, sorry … I don’t remember what it is called. I embellished with enamel dots, wood veneers, and die-cut ephemera.

hellomemphis_detail1

I love the wood veneer pieces in this collection. The engraved details add such a fun element.

hellomemphis_detail2

You can see more travel icons here from a JustNick Studio Around the World digital cut file. This globe is embellished with a cute camera puffy sticker and with another wood veneer.

hellomemphis_detail5

A flair button and woodies are placed near my journaling. The woodies are one of my favorite Cocoa Vanilla Studios embellishments.

hellomemphis_detail4

A strip of pattern paper at the top along with some stickers, die-cut ephemera, and an enamel heart add just a little more interest.

I really love how this one turned out. There is a process video to go along with the layout here.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

You Are The Peanut To My Butter | Endless Summer | Marcia Dehn-Nix

By | 2016-11-27T09:13:14+00:00 December 4th, 2016|Endless Summer|

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia back today with another Endless Summer layout. This gorgeous collection is a new favorite of mine. I just love the pastel color palette. Like all Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections it is versatile enough to use for photos other than summer fun. My inspiration for this layout was the “so Sweet” puffy sticker. What could be sweeter than young love? Here is my layout…

peanuttomybutter

I wanted to use the ombre pink Sunbleached pattern paper underneath a cut file and I found this poem that I love; “You are the Peanut to my Butter, Milk to my Shake, Twinkle in my Eye, Beat of my Heart”. There is lots more to this adorable quote but I only have a 12×12 layout, lol. I love the variation in color from top to bottom throughout the quote.

peanuttomybutter_detail3

My photo is embellished with that “so Sweet” puffy sticker as well as stickers, paper blooms, flair, wood veneer, enamel shapes, and woodies.

peanuttomybutter_detail4

My title starts off with a die cut “You” using the Sweet Treats pattern paper, then I used stickers from the Life is Beautiful and Hello Lovely collections. Some clouds and arrows from the die cut ephemera keep things interesting as well as more enamel shapes, woodies, and another cloud puffy sticker.

peanuttomybutter_detail1

I really love how this layout turned out with that subway art title. Of course, I added a few more embellishments over the words.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Just remember the Cocoa Vanilla Studio store is closed through Monday December 12th. Orders can still be placed and will be shipped starting on December 13th. Have a great week!

Sun, Sand, & Surf | Endless Summer | Marcia Dehn-Nix

By | 2016-11-15T14:00:37+00:00 November 18th, 2016|Design Team, Endless Summer|

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia back today with my first layout created with the gorgeous Endless Summer collection. I am crushing on the flamingos and pretty flowers so I put them to good use on this page. The pastels in Endless Summer are a welcome change from other summery collections and are perfect for my seaside photos. These photos were taken on a Spring Break vacation in Sarasota Florida. My daughter does like to ham it up just a bit for the camera. The silhouettes against that gorgeous sunset are definitely eye-catching though.

sunsandsurf

I used a light peach with white polka dot paper for my background. I love how it brought out the orange of the sunset. Frames from the die cut ephemera pack accentuate my photos nicely. Then I created clusters of embellishments using silhouette die cuts, gorgeous flowers from the ephemera pack and flower pack, woodies, and enamel dots.

sunsandsurfdetail1

This cluster is similar, but I added that Hello Sunshine wood veneer piece.

sunsandsurfdetail2

I used the alpha stickers to create my title, adding some fun elements like the flamingo ephemera piece and more wood veneers. I created some interest along the side of my page as well with stickers and more woodies and enamel dots.

sunsandsurfdetail3

Oooh, and I cannot forget to show you those awesome flair buttons in this collection!

Bubble Fun | Totally Rad + | Marcia Dehn-Nix

By | 2016-10-17T14:28:16+00:00 November 4th, 2016|Design Team, Hello Sunshine, Life Is Beautiful, Made Of Awesome, Totally Rad|

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a stash busting layout. My nephew playing with a bubble gun this past summer was too cute to resist putting on a scrapbook layout. I primarily used Totally Rad, but my background paper came from Life Is Beautiful, and embellishments from Made of Awesome were mixed with those from Totally Rad. I love that I can mix and match between collections so easily. Here is my layout…

bubblefun

I wanted a light blue pattern paper for my background that would somewhat mimic bubbles and chose the Happiness Is paper from Life Is Beautiful. Underneath my photo I tried to layer colors found in my photo, blue, green, and red. These pattern papers are a mix of Totally Rad and Made of Awesome. I played up the reds when choosing my embellishments. These die cut ephemera pieces are from Made of Awesome while the flair, enamel shapes, wood veneers, and woodies are from Totally Rad.

bubblefun_detail3

These star paper clips from Totally Rad are so fun to use!

bubblefun_detail4

The Totally Rad bits and pieces ephemera pack includes awesome things like this acetate word, bakers twine, a kraft tag and so much more! I even managed to use a little Hello Sunshine here … those denim alphabet stickers I used for my title. I love the stitching detail in these stickers!

bubblefun_detail1

In the lower corner, more ephemera pieces layered with flair, enamel shapes, a star paper clip and wood veneers help keep my layout balanced and grounded.

Beach Closed | Hello Sunshine | Marcia Dehn-Nix

By | 2016-10-14T13:06:36+00:00 October 18th, 2016|Design Team, Hello Sunshine, Uncategorized|

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia here today. This month Cocoa Vanilla Studios is sponsoring an awesome sketch blog; Creative Scrappers. Kristine Davidson does an amazing job creating the sketches. Here is the October sketch she sent us.

creative-scrappers-299

All the Cocoa Vanilla Studio designers played along creating a layout using a different collection. I used the fabulous Hello Sunshine collection. I love the Hello Sunshine collection for scrapping photos from a winter getaway my husband and I took to Hawaii. February is the raining season in Hawaii, and it rained almost every day we were there. Beaches were closed because the surf was unbelievably rough too. That didn’t stop us from checking out the sites. When you are from Minnesota where February temps are way below freezing, it was a joy to be warm again … even if we were wet. Beach photos are especially suited to this collection. The color palette compliments the sand and the waves so well. In my layout I wanted to emphasize that rough surf. I did this by cutting my photo into 4 parts and staggering them so it would appear the surf was higher. Here is my layout …

beachclosed

I clustered some clouds to the right of my photo … perfect to convey the rainy day with a few peeks of sunshine. Layers of die cut ephemera are mixed with woodies, fancy buttons, and enamel shapes.

beachclosed_detail1

I love the wood veneer pieces … this bicycle is amazing!

beachclosed_detail3

I balanced out the left side of my layout with this anchor flair button along with more woodies and enamel shapes. I cut my Beach title from 2 different pattern papers using my Silhouette and then layered them … adding the ‘closed’ using alpha stickers from Hello Lovely.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Check back often to see what the other designers have created using the sketch. Have a great week!

YAY | Make A Wish | Marcia Dehn-Nix

By | 2016-10-03T14:11:51+00:00 October 4th, 2016|Design Team, Make A Wish, Uncategorized|

Hello Cocoa Vanilla Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a fun birthday layout using the pretty Make A Wish collection. I love all the different pattern papers in this collection and wanted to showcase them all on a layout. I decided to cut out numbers on my background paper and back each opening with a different pattern paper. Here is how my layout turned out …

yay

I placed my photo in a chipboard sticker frame and decided to also use the chipboard YAY for my title. I embellished with those sparkling enamel dots that are so pretty and some die-cut ephemera pieces.

yay_detail3

I love using the fabulous puffy stickers to add some dimension and those phrase stickers are so fun!

yay_detail4

I wanted to emphasize the 6 on my layout because this little darling is 6 years old now, so I hand stitched around my 6’s. More embellishments here add to the festive feel, like that fun Hip Hip Hooray wood veneer, flair, and vellum accents.

yay_detail5

Banners and celebrations seem to go hand in hand. So I created a banner with a variety of chipboard, puffy stickers and die cut ephemera pieces.

yay_detail1

This layout oozes happiness. I love the color combo here, so rich and vibrant.

yay_detail2Thanks for stopping by today. Make A Wish is available now in the Cocoa Vanilla Studios store and while I used it for a birthday layout, it totally works for other festive occasions as well.
